Texas is known for its unique and delicious cuisine. As a Texan myself, I can attest to the fact that there are many special foods that are only found in our state. Some of the most popular Texas specialties include barbecue,
Tex-Mex cuisine, and kolaches.
Barbecue is a staple in Texas. We take our smoked meats very seriously and there are many different styles to choose from. Some of the most popular types of barbecue in Texas include brisket, ribs, and sausage. One of my
favorite barbecue joints is Franklin Barbecue in Austin. They have a line that wraps around the block every day, but it's worth the wait for their delicious brisket.
Tex-Mex cuisine is another Texas specialty. This style of food is a fusion of Mexican and American cuisine and is known for its bold flavors and use of spices. Some popular
Tex-Mex dishes include tacos, enchiladas, and fajitas. One
of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants is El Tiempo in Houston. They have amazing margaritas and their fajitas are to die for.
Kolaches are a lesser-known Texas specialty, but they are just as delicious. These pastries originated in Central Europe and were brought to Texas by Czech immigrants. They are a sweet or savory pastry filled with ingredients like sausage, cheese, fruit, or cream cheese. My favorite place
to get kolaches is at the Czech Stop in West, Texas. They have a wide variety of flavors and they are perfect for a quick breakfast on the go.
