New Concept English Listening for Grade 4 - A Student's Perspective
Hello there! My name is Emily, and I'm a fourth-grade student at Greenwood Elementary School. Today, I want to share my experience with the New Concept English Listening course, which has been a part of our English curriculum this year. Let me tell you, it's been quite an adventure!
When our teacher first introduced the listening course, I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive. I mean, listening exercises can be challenging, especially when you're still learning the language. But as we dove into the course, I quickly realized that it was designed to make the process fun and engaging.
One of the things I love about the New Concept English Listening course is the variety of topics covered. From stories about animals and nature to conversations about daily life and cultural traditions, each unit offers a new and exciting window into the English-speaking world. The dialogues and narratives
are expertly crafted, with clear pronunciation and natural intonation, making it easier for us to follow along and improve our listening comprehension.
The course also incorporates a range of interactive activities that keep us engaged and motivated. We have listening exercises where we have to identify specific words or phrases, fill in missing information, or answer comprehension questions. These activities not only reinforce our listening skills but also challenge us to think critically and apply our understanding of the language.
One of my favorite features of the course is the accompanying workbook. It's like having a trusty companion on our listening journey. The workbook provides transcripts of the dialogues and narratives, allowing us to follow along and familiarize ourselves with the written form of the language. It also includes supplementary exercises and activities that further enhance our understanding and retention of the material.
But what truly sets the New Concept English Listening course apart is the way it seamlessly integrates cultural elements into the lessons. Through the stories and dialogues, we gain valuable insights into the customs, traditions, and perspectives of various English-speaking communities. This not only enriches
our language learning experience but also fosters a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity.
Of course, like any learning journey, there have been challenges along the way. Some of the dialogues can be quite fast-paced, and it can be tricky to catch every word or phrase. But our teacher has been incredibly supportive, guiding us through the difficult parts and offering helpful strategies for active listening.
One of the strategies that has been particularly useful is the practice of predicting or anticipating what might come next in a dialogue or narrative. By paying attention to context clues and the flow of the conversation, we can better prepare ourselves for the upcoming information and improve our overall comprehension.
Another valuable technique we've learned is note-taking. As we listen to the dialogues and narratives, we jot down key words, phrases, or ideas that stand out to us. This not only helps us stay focused during the listening exercise but also provides a reference point for review and reinforcement later on.
Looking back on the journey so far, I can confidently say that the New Concept English Listening course has been an invaluable addition to our English studies. It has challenged us,
engaged us, and broadened our horizons in ways we never imagined. Not only have our listening skills improved tremendously, but we've also gained a deeper appreciation for the richness and diversity of the English language and the cultures that shape it.
As we approach the end of the school year, I can't help but feel a sense of accomplishment and excitement for what's to come. The skills and knowledge we've acquired through the New Concept English Listening course will undoubtedly serve as a solid foundation for our future language learning endeavors.
So, to any fellow students out there who may be embarking on this journey, embrace the challenge with an open mind and a willingness to learn. The New Concept English Listening course is more than just a series of exercises; it's a gateway to a world of linguistic and cultural exploration. And who knows? Along the way, you might just discover a newfound love for the English language and all the wonders it has to offer.
Happy listening, and may your journey be filled with exciting discoveries and rewarding accomplishments!

Go Ahead English Listening Book 4
Hey everyone! I'm so excited to tell you all about the awesome listening book we're using in English class this year - Go Ahead English Listening Book 4 from the Outside Research Edition. This book is packed with fun stories, interesting topics, and challenging listening exercises that are really helping me improve my English listening skills.
One of the things I love most about this book is the variety of accents and speakers we get to listen to. The recordings feature native English speakers from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and even some other countries. Listening to all these different accents has been great practice for understanding English spoken in different ways. At first, some of the accents were pretty hard for me to understand, but the more I listen, the easier it gets. My listening comprehension has definitely improved a lot!
The topics in the book are so engaging too. We've listened to stories about kids our age going on adventures, discovering new things about the world, and learning important life lessons along the way. My favorite story so far was about a group of friends who formed an environmental club at their school and came up with creative ways to reduce waste and energy usage. It
was not only fun to listen to, but it inspired me to start thinking more about how I can be kinder to the environment too.
We've also covered some really interesting non-fiction topics like space exploration, ancient civilizations, and world cuisines. The space unit was mind-blowing - I had no idea there were so many incredible unknowns and mysteries about our solar system and beyond. And who knew butter chicken originated in India? The world cuisine listening made me hungry to try all the delicious international foods we learned about.
In addition to the engaging stories and topics, Go Ahead Listening 4 also has lots of varied listening exercises to practice our skills. There are true/false questions, multiple choice, fill in the blanks, and even some open-ended critical thinking prompts.
I really like the listening exercises where we hear a conversation between two people and have to infer things like their relationship, the setting, or what happened before based on context clues. It's like being a listening detective! These activities have really pushed me to listen more carefully and think critically about what I'm hearing.
One part of the book I initially found challenging was the listening dictation sections. We have to listen carefully to sentences or short paragraphs being read aloud, and transcribe
exactly what we hear. At first my transcriptions were pretty messy with lots of missed words and mistakes. But the more practice I get, the better I'm becoming at catching all the details and sounds. Dictation is great training for improving not just my listening, but also my spelling, grammar, and overall English comprehension skills.
Overall, I'm having such a fantastic experience with Go Ahead English Listening Book 4 this year. Every class is engaging and fun while still challenging me to work hard on improving my listening abilities. My teacher does a wonderful job guiding us through the materials and activities too. I know all the focused listening practice I'm getting from this book is going to pay off huge. Maybe one day I'll even be mistaken for a native English speaker!
If you're looking for an awesome way to boost your English listening this year, I can't recommend Go Ahead Listening 4 enough. The rich content, varied accents and exercises, and motivating progressional levels make it an incredibly effective and enjoyable resource. I'm so grateful my English teachers chose such a stellar listening book for us to use. Three cheers for Go Ahead Listening!

As a fourth-grader, the prospect of tackling a new English listening textbook filled me with a mix of excitement and trepidation. Little did I know that "New Horizon English Book 4 Listening" would become a gateway to a world of fascinating sounds, captivating stories, and valuable language skills.
The first thing that struck me about this book was its vibrant and colorful illustrations. Each unit featured engaging characters and delightful scenarios that immediately piqued my curiosity. the thrill of comprehending a conversation between classmates, deciphering the intricate plot of a folktale, or following the step-by-step instructions for a game or craft project.
What truly set this book apart was its ability to seamlessly integrate language learning with real-life scenarios. The dialogues and narratives tackled themes that resonated with my daily experiences, such as family dynamics, school life, and personal interests. This connection made the learning process more relatable and meaningful, as I could easily apply the vocabulary and expressions I learned to my own conversations and interactions.
Moreover, the book's progressive approach to listening comprehension allowed me to build confidence gradually. One of the highlights of this book was the inclusion of traditional tales and folktales from various cultures. It was a gentle reminder that language is not merely a tool for communication but also a window into the richness of diverse cultures.
Throughout my journey with "New Horizon English Book 4 Listening," I encountered numerous challenges. Some listening exercises pushed my comprehension skills to the limit, forcing me to listen intently, make educated guesses, and persevere through moments of uncertainty. However, with each challenge overcome, I experienced a sense of accomplishment that fueled my motivation to continue learning.
As I reflect on my experience with this book, I am filled with gratitude for the invaluable lessons it imparted. It not only laid a solid foundation for my English listening skills but also instilled in me a love for the language and a curiosity about the diverse cultures it represents.
In the years that followed, the skills I developed through "New Horizon English Book 4 Listening" proved invaluable. Whether it was understanding lectures, watching movies, or engaging in conversations with native speakers, my ability to comprehend and appreciate the intricacies of spoken English opened up a world of opportunities.

Remember, listening is not just a passive activity; it's an active process of engagement, interpretation, and discovery.
"New Horizon English Book 4 Listening" was more than just a textbook; it was a gateway to a world of sounds, a catalyst for personal growth, and a testament to the power of language to connect us with diverse cultures and perspectives. Its impact on my language learning journey was profound, and I am forever grateful for the foundations it laid and the doors it opened.。
