This term expresses the feeling of not knowing whatto do or how to do things in a new environment. We c an describe culture shock as the physical and emotional discomfort a person suffers when coming tolive in a place different from the place of origin.Often, the way that we live before is not accepted or considered as normalin the new place. Everything is different, for example, not speaking thelanguage, not knowing how to use banking machines, not knowing how to use telephones, and so forth. The symptoms of culture shock can appear at different times. Although aperson can experience real pain from culture shock, it is also an opportunity for growing and learning new perspectives. Culture shock can help peopledevelop a better understanding of themselves and stimulate personalcreativity.Culture shock has many stages. Each stage can be ongoing, or appear onlyat certain times. In the first stage, the new arrival may feel very happyabout all of the new experience. This time is called the honeymoon stage. Afterward, the second stage presents itself. A person may encounter somedifficulties in daily life. For example, communication difficulties mayoccur, such as not being understood. In this stage, there may be feelingsof impatience, anger and sadness. Transition between the old methods andthose of the new country is a difficult process and takes time to complete. The third stage is characterized by gaining some understanding of the newculture. A new feeling of pleasure and sense of humor may be experienced.A person may start to feel a psychological balance. The individual is morefamiliar with the environment and wants to belong. This starts an evaluation of the old ways versus those of the new. In the fourth stage, the personrealizes that the new culture has good and bad things to offer. This stagecan be one of double integration or triple integration, depending on thenumber of cultures that the person has to process. This integration ischaracterized by a more solid feeling of belonging. The person starts todefine himself or herself and establish goals for living. The fifth stageis the stage that is called the reentry shock. This occurs when a personreturns to the newly acquired customs are considered improper in the oldculture.Questions 56—60Complete the summary with words from the passage, changing the form where necessary, with only one word for each blank.Introduced in 1958, culture shock is a term used to (56) __________ physical and emotional discomfort people experience when they come to or live in anew place. In the first stage, the (58) __________ stage, the new arrival might be OK with everything.Afterward, (59) ________ from old methods to the new one calls for time and energy. During the third and fourth stage, people may g ain more understanding of the new culture and possess objective views. The double or tripleintegration is (60) __________ by a feeling of belonging. The last stage, called reentry shock, refers to the feeling people have when returning totheir home country.Section B (10 marks)Questions 61-65 are based on the following passage. For some people, it would be unthinkable. But Gabe Henderson is findingfreedom in a recent decision; he canceled his MySpace a ccount. The 26 years old graduate student stopped his account after realizing that a lot of hisonline friends were really just acquaintances. “The superficial emptiness clouded the excitement I had once felt,” Henderson wrote in an article.“It seems we have lost, to some degree, the special depth that truefriendship is about.”Journalism professor Michael Bugeja, who is a strong supporter offace-to-face communication, read Henderson’s column and saw it was a signof hope. Though he’s not anti-technology, Bugeja often lectures studentsabout “interpersonal intelligence”—knowing when, where, and for what purpose technology is most appropriate. He points out the students he’s seen walking across campus, holding hands with each other while talking oncell phones to someone else He’s also seen them in coffee shops, surrounded by people, but staring instead at a computer screen. “True friends,” he says, “need to learn when to stop blogging and go across campus to helpa friend.”These days, young people are more wired than ever—but they’re also getting more worried. Increasingly, they’ve had to deal with online bullies, whoare posting anything from embarrassing photos to online threats. Andincreasingly, young people also are realizing that things they post on their profiles can come back to hurt them when applying for schools or jobs.Social networking can be an “extremely effective”way to publicize eventsto large groups. It can even help build a sense of community on campus. People joined Facebook as a way to meet others. However, it has limitations. A good Internet profile could make even the most boring person seem some whatinteresting. People are also not always happy with text messages on the cell phones. Cell phones can be a quick way to say “have a good day”. But friends can also cancel a night out with a text message to avoid having to explain.“Our generation needs to get over this fear of confrontation and rejection.”Henderson says. “The focus needs to be on quality communication, in allways.” Back in his life, Henderson is enjoying spending more face-to-facetime with his friends and less with his computer. He says his decision toquit his social-networking Internet accounts was a good one. “I’m not sacrificing friends,” he says, “because if a picture, some basicinformation about their life and a Web p age is all my f riendship has become, then there was nothing to sacrifice to begin with.”Questions 61—63Decide whether the following statements are true (T) or false (F) accordingto the passage.61. Although Henderson quit MySpace, most of his online friends are actually close friends.62. According to Bugeja, young people should know when to use technologyand when to stop using it.63. Social networking helps build asense of community but has a negativeeffect on young people’s life if it isused inappropriately.Questions 64—65Answer the following questions brieflyaccording to the passage.64. What does Henderson lose by using social networking websites likeMyspace?65. What do young people need to overcome in order to focus on quality communication?Section C (10 marks)Questions 66—70 are based on the following passage.“Five … Four … Three … Two … One … See ya! ” and Chance McGuire, twenty-five, is airborne off a 600 –foot concrete dam i n Northern California. In one second he falls 15 feet, in two seconds 60 feet, and after three seconds and 130 feet, he is flying at 66 miles an hour.McGuire is a practitioner of what he calls the king of all extreme sports.BASE—an acronym for building, antenna, span (bridge) and earth (cliffs)—jumping has one of the sporting world’s highest fatality rates: in its18-year history, forty –six participants have been killed. Yet the sporthas never been more popular, with more than a thousand jumpers in the UnitedStates, and more seeking to get into it every day. It is an activity without margin for error. If your chute malfunctions, don’t bother researching for a reserve—there isn’t time. There are no second chances.Still, the sport may be a perfect fit with the times. Americans may havemore in common with McGuire than they know or care to admit. America has embarked on a national orgy of thrill seeking and risk taking. The rise ofadventure and extreme sports such as BASE jumping, snowboarding, iceclimbing, skateboarding, and paragliding is merely the most vividmanifestation of this new national behavior. The rising popularity of extreme sports speaks of an eagerness on the partof millions of Americans to participate in activities closer to the edge, where danger, skill, and fear combine to give weekend warriors andprofessional athletes alike a sense of pushing out personal boundaries.According to American Sports Data Inc., a consulting firm, participationin so-called extreme sports is way up. Snowboarding has grown 113 percentin five years and now boasts nearly 5.5 million participants. Mountain hiking, skateboarding, scuba diving—their growth curves reveal a nation that loves to play with danger. Contrast that with activities such as baseball, touchfootball, and aerobics, all of which were in steady decline throughout the1990s.The pursuits that are becoming more popular have one thing in common: the perception that they are somehow more challenging than a game of touchfootball. “Every human being with two legs and two arms is going to wonder how fast, how strong, how enduring he or she is,” says Eric Perlman, a mountaineer and film maker specializing in extreme sports. “We a re designed to experience or die.”Questions 66—68Complete the following sentences with information given in the passage ina maximum of 4 words for each blank.66. _______ rates doesn’t stop people from getting into BASE j umping every day.67. DavidBeckham is the footballer whose skills and precision have made him one ofthe most gifted sportsmen of his generation. Who is more intelligent? How Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences (MI) dares us to put thesetwo men on neighboring pedestals. Instead of regarding intelligence as asingle quantity measurable by pen-and-paper tests, Gardner, an educationprofessor at Harvard University, divides human intelligence into no fewerthan eight separate categories ranging from mathematical to musicalcompetence. (74)His ideas have provoked vigorous debate about how onedefines intelligence. Gardner’s point is that quantity measures only one capacity, the sort of mental agility that is valued in academic achievement, and that this single number does not do justice to human potential. So hehas created his own spheres of achievement. Some categories are easilyreconcilable with general perceptions about IQ. For example, “linguistic”intelligence confers a mastery of language, and is the preserve of suchpeople as poets, writers and linguists. “Logical mathematical”intelligence marks out people who take a reasoning approach to physicalthings, and seek underlying principles. Einstein is the standard –bearer of this group, which also includes philosophers. These two categories arethe main components of what we generally think of as “intelligence”. “Musical”intelligence characterizes musicians, composers and conductors. “Spatial” intelligence is about being able to picture perspective, tovisualize a world in one’s head with great accuracy. Chess players, artists and architects would rate highly in this category. Dancers, athletes andactors are lumped under the “bodily-kinesthetic” heading; these individual, like Beckham, are able to control their bodies and movementsvery carefully. Then come t wo types of “personal”intelligence-intrapersonal, the ability to gauge one’s own mood, feelings and mental states, and interpersonal, being able to gauge it in others and use the information. These two categories could be interpreted as emotional intelligence. Psychiatrists areparticularly adept at the former, while religious leaders and politiciansare seen as people who can exploit the latter.Charles Darwin is perhaps the perfect embodiment of the eighth intelligence–“naturalist”. This label describes people with a deep understanding ofthe natural world and its objects. Zoologists and botanists can countthemselves among this group.(75)These eight categories certainly reflect the fact that, in these areas, there is a spectrum of human ability ranging from the hopeless to thebrilliant. But are these really intelligences, or could these competencesbe more accurately described as gifts or talents?Questions 71—73Answer the following questions briefly according to the passage.71. What are the main components of “intelligence”we generally think of?72. What kind of abilities does emotional intelligence involve?73. Which intelligences are represented by Einstein and Beckhamrespectively?Questions 74—75Translate the underlined sentences in the passage into Chinese.74. Respond to the questions using information from the passage. Remember to write the answers on the answer sheet.Section A (5 marks)Questions 56—60 are based on the following passage. In order to get information about distant planets, scientistsinvented spacecraft to travel into the solar system to see theplanets up close. These spacecraft do not carry people, and theynever return to Earth. However, while they are in space, theycan take photographs of planets that are too far away for us tostudy from Earth. One famous spacecraft that has done this ispart of the Voyager Project. This spacecraft is called Voyager I.NASA started the Voyager Project in the 1970s. During the 1960s and the 1970s, NASA sent many spacecraft into space to collect scientific information about the solar system, but none of those spacecraft carried astronauts. Two of the spacecraft that NASA built in the 1970s were called Voyager I and Voyager II. The original jobs of Voyager I and II were to get information about Jupiter and Saturn. The two spacecraft both left the Earth in 1977.Voyager I reached Jupiter in 1979 and began to take photographs. The spacecraft was able to get very close to Jupiter. By getting close to Jupiter, it could take very clear photographs of Jupiter’s rings and planets. Voyager I also took good photo graphs of Jupiter’s “Great Red Spot.” This spot is a large place on Jupiter where there is a strong storm. The Great Red Spot is so large that it could hold three planets the size of Earth inside of it! After taking pictures of Jupiter, Voyager I went to Saturn. It reached Saturn in 1980 and collected important information about Saturn’s rings.- 10 —After Voyager I finished its work on Saturn, the spacecraft still worked well. So, NASA sent Voyager I on a new job. This time it was sent out of the solar system. NASA wanted to see how far it could go.Voyager I is still working today. It is now NASA’s oldest working spacecraft. It has tr avelled more than 9.3 billion miles, making it the spacecraft that has travelled furthest from Earth. Actually, the spacecraft has now travelled much further than expected. As it travels, it continues to send new information back to Earth. It is expected that Voyager I will no longer work by the year 2020. At that time it will not have enough power to keep working. Still, we can certainly say that this spacecraft has done a great service in helping us to learn more about space.Questions 56一60Decide whether the following statements are true (T) or false (F) according to the passage.56.Voyager I and Voyager II are only a part of NASA’s Voyager Project started in the 1970s.57.Voyager I and Voyager II were specifically designed to carry astronauts to outer space.58.Voyager I has successfully fulfilled its mission of collecting information about Jupiter and Saturn.59.Voyager I is still in normal working condition inside the solar system.60.As expected, Voyager I will return to the Earth by the year of 2020 with morevaluable information.Section B (10 marks)Questions 61—65 are based on the following passage. Can we trust our memories? Psychologist Elizabeth Loftus doesn’t think so. Loftus is anexpert on false memories. A false memory is a memory of something that never happened. Are people with false memories lying? Not at all, says Loftus. They really believe theirmemories. And that is why it can be difficult to know if a memory is real.61. _________________________ These people didn’t know eachother, but 36 percent of them had the same memory. What was it?They remembered hugging Bugs Bunny at Disneyland. But wait a minute. Bugs Bunny isnot a Disney character, and he was never at Disneyland. These people’s memories werefalse.62. ___________________ Loftus says it is easy to put a false memoryinto someone’s mind. How? You just talk to the person. In the Bugs Bunny experiment, Loftus talked to peoplewho had visited Disneyland as children. Then she asked them about Bugs Bunny. She asked if he had soft ears. She asked if his body was furry. Later, more than one-third falsely remembered hugging Bugs Bunny.63. ________________________ That is why Loftus used the words “furry” and “soft” in theexperiment. Those words helped people imagine the experience. They saw Bugs Bunny in their imagination. They felt his soft fur. It seemed so real. They were sure it really happened.64. ________________________ Loftus says it shows the dangers of false memory. Of course, afalse memory of Bugs Bunny is not dangerous, but imagine this situation. A man hits a woman on the head. Then he steals her car. In English, everything from spelling to vocabulary has gone throughmajor changes over the years. In fact, to a modern speaker, the English of1,000 years ago looks like a foreign language! The history of English dates back around 1,500 years. At that time, groups of Europeans invaded England, bringing their language with them. Itdeveloped into Old English. Later, in 1066, England was invaded by theNormans from France. The language went through an important shift, leading to what we now call Middle English. Over the next 500 years, the language underwent further shifts, leading to Modern English. As the language has developed over time, many things about it have changed.Pronunciation is one of the most obvious areas. For example, in Old English, people said “hus” and “mus”. Now, we say “house” and “mouse”. These days, there are many differences in the way English is pronounced in the U.S., India, and elsewhere. When people live in groups separated by great distances, the pace of change can be fast.Spelling has also gone through interesting changes. For example, in Old English, one wrote “riht”. A “g” was added in Middle English, making the spelling “right”. Also, in the distant past, people did not always follow standards of spell ing. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, scholars like Noah Webster wrote dictio varies which made the spelling more consistent. However, different standards were decided on in England and the U.S. So, some differences remain—for example, “color” v s. “colour”.Vocabulary changes happen even more quickly. English has grown by borrowing words from languages such as French, Spanish, and Arabic, to name a few. This often happens with types of food—for example, “tofu”. Then there is slang which enters an d leaves the language every year! Thirty years ago, one often heard people saying “groovy”,meaning “great”. These days, you’ll rarely hear the word except on old TV shows and movies.Because English is spoken by so many people worldwide, it really is an exciting time for the language. Just as American and British versions are always changing, so are versions spoken in Canada, Singapore, and elsewhere. At the same time, an entirely new version of English is appearing on the Internet with whole new slang and writing styles. In a way, learning English is a never-ending process, even for native speakers!13Questions 66—70Answer the following questions according to the passage.66.Why does the English of 1,000 years ago seem a foreign language to modern speakers?67.What aspects are discussed to show the changes of English in history?68.When did scholars try to make English spelling more consistent?69.What are some languages that English has borrowed words from?70.Where can we see an entirely new version of English?Section D (10 marks)Questions 71——75 are based on the following passage.Wine can be made with red grapes or whitegrapes, and, especially in the case of red wines, a number ofdoctors have reported that a moderate amount of wine hascertain health benefits. This may be one of the reasons why thenumber of people drinking wine has risen over the past years. As new wine -shoppers browse the shelves of their localmarkets, they face a tough decision. Should they buy a winewith a cork or a screw top? And shoppers are not alone in theirdilemma. Wineries are also facing tough choices in the bestway to seal their products. The root of the problem lies in “cork taint”. Corktaint refers to a problem with wine that has been sealed with abad cork. Traditionally, all corks are made from a special oak tree that grows around the Mediterranean. In the process of making the corks and sealing wine bottles, a certain type of mold may start to grow on some corks. Over time, this mold can produce a chemical that makes the wine inside the bottle taste musty. In fact, the human tongue is so sensitive to this particular compound that people can taste it even diluted up to six parts per trillion! How big is the problem of cork taint? Some experts from the wine industry claim cork taint affects one out of every ten bottles of wine. And as one spokesperson for an American winery says, “No other packaging industry in the world would put up with that kind of failure rate.”Some wine makers see a possible solution to the problem of cork taint through adopting the tried and true method of sealing bottles with screw tops. However, many wineries are still playing it safe and sticking to corks for two reasons. First, there is the old belief among cork users that small amounts of oxygen are able to penetrate corks. This oxygen, they say, is necessary for the proper aging of fine wines, especially those aged 10 years or more. Screw tops14 -do not allow for any oxygen to get into the bottles after they are sealed.Another problem arises from the image screw tops have with the public. In most people’s minds, screw tops are only found on cheap, low-quality wines. It will take a lot of efforts from wineries to re-educate the public if they want to change the image of screw tops. In addition, there is the problem of losing the romantic, elegant mood produced by the ceremonial popping of the cork. Consumers don’t seem to feel the same thrill when unscrewing a top.Questions 71—75 Complete the summary with words from the passage, changing the form wherenecessary, with only one word for each blank. The wine industry is facing a 71. _______________ . In 1993, the owners of a large hotel and of several houses discovered, to their horror, that their gardens had disappeared overnight. The sea had eaten into the soft limestone cliffs on which they had been built. While experts were studying the problem, the hotel and several houses disappeared altogether, sliding down the cliff and into the sea. Erosion of the white cliffs along the south coast of England has always been a problem but it has become more serious in recent years. Dozens of homes have had to be abandoned as the sea has crept farther and farther inland. Experts have studied the areas most affected and have drawn up a map for local people, forecasting the year in which their homes will be swallowed up by the hungry sea. Angry owners have called on the Government to erect sea defenses to protect their homes. Government surveyors have pointed out that in most cases, this is impossible. New sea walls would cost hundreds of millions of pounds and would merely make the waves and currents go further along the coast, shifting the problem from one area to another. The danger is likely to continue, they say, until the waves reach an inland area of hard rock which will not be eaten as limestone is. Meanwhile, if you want to buy a cheap house with an uncertain lucre, apply to a house agent in one of the threatened areas on the south coast of England. You can get a house for a knockdown price but it may turn out to be a knockdown home.46.What is the cause of the problem that people living on parts of the south coast of England face?A.The rising of the sea level.B.The experts’ lack of knowledge.C.The washing-away of limestone cliffs.D.The disappearance of hotels, houses and gardens.正确答案:C47.The erosion of the white cliffs in the south of England ______.A.will soon become a problem for people living in central EnglandB.has now become a threat to the local residentsC.can be stopped if proper measures are takenD.is quickly changing the map of England正确答案:B48.The experts’ study on the problem of erosion can ______.A.warn people whose homes are in dangerB.provide an effective way to slow it downC.help the prevent it from worseningD.lead to its eventual solution正确答案:A49.It is not feasible to build sea defenses to protect against erosion because ______.A.house agents along the coast do not support the ideaB.it is too costly and will endanger neighboring areasC.the government is too slow in taking actionD.they will be easily knockdown by waves and currents正确答案:B50.According to the author, when buying a house along the south coast of England, people should ______.A.take the quality of the house into considerationB.guard against being cheated by the house agentC.examine the house carefully before making a decisionD.be aware of the potential danger involved正确答案:DIt is generally accepted that every experience teaches the child something and the effects are cumulative. “upbrigning” is normally used to refer to the treatment and training of the child within the home. This is closely related to the treatment and training of the child in school, which is usually distinguished by the term “education”. In a society such as ours, both parents and teachers are responsible for the opportunities provided for the development of the child, so that upbringing and education are interdependent. The ideals and practices of child rearing vary from culture to culture. In general, the more rural the community, the more uniform are the customs of child Upbringing. In more technologically developed societies, the period of childhood and adolescence tends to be extended over a long time, resulting in more opportunity for education and greater variety in character development. Early upbringing in the home is naturally affected both by the cultural pattern of the community and by the parents’ capabilities and their aims and depends not only on upbringing and education but also on the innate abilities of the child. Intelligent parents, however, realize that the particular setting of each family is unique, and there can be no rigid general rules. All parents have to solve the problems of freedom and discipline. The younger the child, the more readily the mother gives is to his demands to avoid disappointing him. She knows that if his energies are not given an outlet, her child’s continuing development may be warped. A child must be allowed to enjoy this “messy” but tactile stage of discovery before he is ready to goon to the less physical pleasures of toys and books. Similarly, throughout life, each stage depends on the satisfactory completion of the one before.51.It’s a general belief that a child’s later character and personality is ______ decided by his early experiences both at home and in school.A.chieflyB.by chanceC.entirelyD.seldom正确答案:A52.The word “cumulative” (in line 1, Para. 1) most probably means ______.A.decisiveB.extremely beneficialC.strongD.progressively greater正确答案:D53.It can be seen from the passage that ______.A.the cultural pattern is the single factor that affects a child’s upbringing in the homeB.by no means does the technological development of children’s characterC.there are advisable rules for parents to go by in bringing up their childrenD.upbringing and education are mutually complementary正确答案:D54.A child’s development might well be badly affected if ______.A.he was subjected to unusually strict disciplineB.his mother often gave in to his demandsC.his energies were freely given an outletD.he were brought up in a happy environment正确答案:A55.As it is presented in the passage, rather than a smooth progression the development of the human character and personality is a series of ______.A.actsB.stagesC.functionsD.completions正确答案:BSection BYour passport is your official identification as an American citizen. In America, most people never consider obtaining a passport unless they are planning a trip out of the country. A passport is final proof of identity in almost every country in the world. In 1979 almost 15 million Americans held passports. Most of these passports were obtained to travel outside the country because, except for a few Western nations, passports are required to enter every country. And if you travel abroad, you must have a valid passport to reenter the country. When traveling abroad, you will need a passport for identification when exchanging dollars for francs or marks or other foreign currency. You may also need your passport to use a credit card, buy an airplane ticket, check into a hotel or casino. Don’t confuse passports and visas. Whereas a passport is issued by a country to its citizens, a visa is official permission to visit a country granted by the government of that country. For some years, many countries were dropping their visa requirements, but that trend has reversed. Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela now require visas from U.S. citizens. They may be obtained from the embassy of the country you wish to visit. Passport applications are available at passport agency offices in large cities like Boston, New York, or Chicago. In smaller cities, applications are available at post offices and at federal courts. To get your first passport, you must submit the application in person, along with a birth certificate and two pictures. Maybe because most Americans use their passports only when traveling and because they are good for five years, many people lose their passports. Any every passport is worth thousands of dollars to smugglers or criminals who desire to enter this country illegally or assume a false identity. Travelers should keep their passports in their pockets or pocketbooks at all times; never pack them or leave them in a room or automobile; when you arrive back home, store your passport in a safe or safety deposit box. And report a lost or stolen passport immediately; it is literally your identity.56.What is the main purpose of this passage?正确答案:To provide information about passports.57.Passports are needed when ______.正确答案:exchanging currency, using credit cards, checking into hotels, etc.58.Concerning passports and visas, what can we conclude from this passage?正确答案:Passports are more important than visas.59.What does the passage suggest about the importance of passports?正确答案:Most people don’t realize how important passports are.60.Where should travelers keep their passports?正确答案:In their pockets or pocketbooks.Section CHeat loss by sweating depends on the fact that when a liquid evaporates, it absorbs an enormous quantity of heat from its surroundings. Therefore, when 1 ml. of sweat evaporate, a great deal of heat is absorbed from the surface of the body in contact with it. This heat transfer occurs even if the environment is hotter than the body. Two factors affect the rate of evaporation of sweat, and therefore the effectiveness of sweating as a method of cooling the body. The first is the amount of movement of air surrounding the body. The second is the amount of water vapor in the air that surrounds the body. When air moves over the surface of water, the amount of evaporation is greatly increased. For this reason, sweat evaporates very rapidly on windy days, and the rate of heat loss by sweating is much more than on a still day. This accounts for the fact that hot still days are much less comfortable than hot windy days. In contrast, the sweat evaporates very rapidly on hot windy days, and cools the body quickly and effectively. The second factor is the amount of water vapor in the air--the humidity. When air is carrying the maximum amount of water vapor that it can hold, it is said to be 100% saturated with water vapor. The relative humidity of the air is said to be 100%. Under these conditions the air cannot carry any water, so no water can evaporate. When the relative humidity is high, therefore, sweat cannot evaporate. Instead, it forms large drops and runs off your skin without cooling you. When the air is very dry and carries no water at all, the relative humidity is said to be 0%. It is obvious that under these conditions, evaporation will be much more rapid. Therefore, sweating will be much more effective as a method of losing heat from the body. On a hot dry day, sweat evaporates as soon as it is formed, and you feel reasonably cool even though the temperature of your environment is very high.61.______ According to the passage, it can be inferred that housewives prefer to hang their washing on hot still days.A.TB.FC.NG正确答案:B62.______ People have good reasons to feel cool on a hot dry day because of quick evaporation.A.TB.FC.NG正确答案:B63.______ Hot windy days are much more comfortable than hot still days.A.TB.FC.NG正确答案:B64.______ On an extremely hot day, sweating to cool your body effectively will occur when the air is very hot and dry and carries no water at all.A.TB.FC.NG正确答案:A65.______ The heat transfer happens on the condition that the environment is cooler than the body.A.TB.FC.NG正确答案:A66.______ You might expect the highest incidence of a heat stroke when the maximum temperature is 100 and humidity is 50%.A.TB.FC.NG正确答案:CSection DThe most interesting architectural phenomenon of the 1970s was the enthusiasm for refurbishing old buildings. Others face a hard decision. Perhaps the easiest choice has to do with economics. One husband said, “Marge and I decided after careful consideration that for her to go back to work at this moment was an extravagance (奢侈) we couldn’t afford”. (90) With two preschool children, it soon became clear in their figuring that with babysitters, transportation, and increased taxes, rather than having more money, they might actually end up with less. Economic factors are usually the first to be considered, but they are not the most important. The most important aspects of the decision have to do with the emotional needs of each member of the family. (91) It is in this area that husbands and wives find themselves having to face many confusing and conflicting feelings. (92) There are many women who find that homemaking is boring or who feel imprisoned (被囚禁) if they have to stay home with a young child or several children. On the other hand, there are women who think that homemaking gives them the deepest satisfaction. From my own experience, I would like to suggest that sometimes the decision to go back to is made in too much haste. There are few decisions that I now regret more. I wasn’t mature enough to see how much I could have gained at home. (93) I regret my impatience to get on with my career; I wish I had allowed myself the luxury of watching the world through my little girl’s eyes.71.正确答案:对许多妇女来说,可以在出门工作还是呆在家里进行选择是一种奢侈,因为他们要工作谋生。
