1. pair (n.) 对,双

a pair of （词组）一双,一对, 一副 a pair of gloves 一副手套 two pairs of gloves 两副手套

He got a pair of new skates on hi s birthday. 他过生日时得到一双新冰鞋。

2. since (conj.连词，prep.介词) 自……以后，

I have lived here since I moved here. 自从我搬到这以来,一直住在这。

They have been skating since 9 o’clock. 他们从九点钟开始一直在滑冰。

3. raise (v.) 募集筹措：

raise an army 招募军队raise enough money for the SARS

5.collect (v.) 收集；搜集；收藏

He likes collecting stamps very much. 他很喜欢集邮（收集邮票）。

Collection (n.) 收藏品He has a big stamp collection.他收藏了很多邮票（他有大批邮票收藏品）

6.run out of （储存物、供应品等) 用尽；缺乏

They have already run out of patrol. 他们的已经汽油用光了.。

7.by the way 顺便说一句

By the way, Are you coming to help tomorrow? 顺便问一句，你明天来帮忙吗？

8.be interested in 对……感兴趣

He wasn’t interested in math. 他对数学不感兴趣。

I am interested in learning English .我对学习英语感兴趣。

Ⅲ. Language Points

Since 和for：

for: (prep) 表示时间的持续，后面加时间段，表示一段时间，多与带数词的名次连用，其谓语动词需可以表示动作的延续。

例如：I have been skating for five hours.

又如：We have been collecting shells for three months.

The skating marathon has been going for eight hours.

一直延续到现在，一般用现在完成时或现在完成进行时。

例如：I have been skating since 9 o’clock.

又如：He has been teaching math since five years ago.

He has been watching English movies since 1998.

I have been listening to music videos since I was seven years old.

一般过去时与现在完成进行时

How long did you skate? （一般过去时）

How long have you been skating? （现在完成进行时）

（1）注：一般过去时指在过去发生的行为、动作，该动作已结束，不强调同现在的关系。而现在完成进行时表示动作从过去开始发生一直持续进行（到现在），可能仍在进行，也可能停止了一会儿。注意两个时态语意上的差异。

（2）How long …? 多长时间？（疑问句）

e.g.

How long have you been waiting?

你已经等了多久？

How long will the meeting last?

会议将持续多长时间？
