GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe W25Q128BV (128M-bit) Serial Flash memory provides a storage solution for systems with limited space, pins and power. The 25Q series offers flexibility and performance well beyond ordinary Serial Flash devices. They are ideal for code shadowing to RAM, executing code directly from Dual/Quad SPI (XIP) and storing voice, text and data. The device operates on a single 2.7V to 3.6V power supply with current consumption as low as 4mA active and 1µA for power-down.The W25Q128BV array is organized into 65,536 programmable pages of 256-bytes each. Up to 256 bytes can be programmed at a time. Pages can be erased in groups of 16 (4KB sector erase), groups of 128 (32KB block erase), groups of 256 (64KB block erase) or the entire chip (chip erase). The W25Q128BV has 4,096 erasable sectors and 256 erasable blocks respectively. The small 4KB sectors allow for greater flexibility in applications that require data and parameter storage. (See Figure 2.)The W25Q128BV supports the standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), and a high performance Dual/Quad output as well as Dual/Quad I/O SPI: Serial Clock, Chip Select, Serial Data I/O0 (DI), I/O1 (DO), I/O2 (/WP), and I/O3 (/HOLD). SPI clock frequencies of up to 104MHz are supported allowing equivalent clock rates of 208MHz (104MHz x 2) for Dual Output and 280MHz (70MHz x 4) for Quad SPI when using the Fast Read Quad SPI instructions. These transfer rates can outperform standard Asynchronous 8 and 16-bit Parallel Flash memories. The Continuous Read Mode allows for efficient memory access with as few as 8-clocks of instruction-overhead to read a 24-bit address, allowing true XIP (execute in place) operation.A Hold pin, Write Protect pin and programmable write protection, with top, bottom or complement array control, provide further control flexibility. Additionally, the device supports JEDEC standard manufacturer and device identification with a 64-bit Unique Serial Number.2. PIN DESCRIPTIONS4.1 Chip Select (/CS)The SPI Chip Select (/CS) pin enables and disables device operation. When /CS is high the device is deselected and the Serial Data Output (DO, or IO0, IO1, IO2, IO3) pins are at high impedance. When deselected, the devices power consumption will be at standby levels unless an internal erase, program or write status register cycle is in progress. When /CS is brought low the device will be selected, power consumption will increase to active levels and instructions can be written to and data read from the device. After power-up, /CS must transition from high to low before a new instruction will be accepted. The /CS input must track the VCC supply level at power-up (see “Write Protection” and Figure 38). If needed a pull-up resister on /CS can be used to accomplish this.4.2 Serial Data Input, Output and IOs (DI, DO and IO0, IO1, IO2, IO3)The W25Q128BV supports standard SPI, Dual SPI and Quad SPI operation. Standard SPI instructions use the unidirectional DI (input) pin to serially write instructions, addresses or data to the device on the rising edge of the Serial Clock (CLK) input pin. Standard SPI also uses the unidirectional DO (output) to read data or status from the device on the falling edge of CLK.Dual and Quad SPI instructions use the bidirectional IO pins to serially write instructions, addresses or data to the device on the rising edge of CLK and read data or status from the device on the falling edge of CLK. Quad SPI instructions require the non-volatile Quad Enable bit (QE) in Status Register-2 to be set. When QE=1, the /WP pin becomes IO2 and /HOLD pin becomes IO3.4.3 Write Protect (/WP)The Write Protect (/WP) pin can be used to prevent the Status Register from being written. Used in conjunction with the Status Register’s Block Protect (CMP, SEC, TB, BP2, BP1 and BP0) bits and Status Register Protect (SRP) bits, a portion as small as a 4KB sector or the entire memory array can be hardware protected. The /WP pin is active low. When the QE bit of Status Register-2 is set for Quad I/O, the /WP pin function is not available since this pin is used for IO2. See Figure 1a-c for the pin configuration of Quad I/O operation.4.4 HOLD (/HOLD)The /HOLD pin allows the device to be paused while it is actively selected. When /HOLD is brought low, while /CS is low, the DO pin will be at high impedance and signals on the DI and CLK pins will be ignored (don’t care). When /HOLD is brought high, device operation can resume. The /HOLD function can be useful when multiple devices are sharing the same SPI signals. The /HOLD pin is active low. When the QE bit of Status Register-2 is set for Quad I/O, the /HOLD pin function is not available since this pin is used for IO3. See Figure 1a-c for the pin configuration of Quad I/O operation.4.5 Serial Clock (CLK)The SPI Serial Clock Input (CLK) pin provides the timing for serial input and output operations. Description Power-One’s point-of-load converters are recommended for use with regulated bus converters in an Intermediate Bus Architecture (IBA). The YM12S05 non-isolated DC-DC converters deliver up to 5A of output current in an industry-standard surface-mount package. Operating from a 9.6-14 VDC input, the YM12S05 converters are ideal choices for Intermediate Bus Architectures where Point-of-Load power (POL) delivery is generally a requirement. They provide an extremely tight regulated programmable output voltage of 0.7525 V to 5.5 V. The Y-Series converters provide exceptional thermal performance, even in high temperature environments with minimal airflow. No derating is required up to 85 C (up to 70 C for 5 V and 3.3 V outputs), even without airflow at natural convection. This is accomplished through the use of advanced circuitry, packaging and processing techniques to achieve a design possessing ultra-high efficiency, excellent thermal management and a very low body profile. The low body profile and the preclusion of heat sinks minimize impedance to system airflow, thus enhancing cooling for both upstream and downstream devices. The use of 100% automation for assembly, coupled with advanced power electronics and thermal design, results in a product with extremely high reliability.

The output signals are processed by internal logic.To protect the device against short circuit and over-current condition the thermal protection turns the integrated Power MOS off at a minimum junction temperature of 140 o C. When the temperature returns to about 125 o C the switch is automatically turned on again. To ensur the protection in all V CC conditions and in all the junction temperature range it is necessary to limit the voltage drop across Drain and Source (pin 3and 5) at 29 V. The device is able to withstand a load dump according the test pulse 5 at level III of the ISO TR/1 7631.Above V CC = 36V the output voltage is clamped to 36V. Power dissipation increases and the device turns off if junction temperature reaches thermal shutdown temperature.PROTECTING THE DEVICE AGAINST REVERSE BATTERYThe simplest way to protect the device against a continuous reverse battery voltage (-26V) is toinsert a Schottky diode between pin 1 (GND) and ground, as shown in the typical application circuit (fig. 3).The consequences of the voltage drop across this diode are as follows:-If the input is pulled to power GND, a negativevoltage of -V F is seen by the device. This is less impor-tant for reflow soldering but sufficient space must be allowed to enable rework should it be required.Preheat & SolderingThe rate of preheat should not exceed 4°C/second to prevent thermal shock. The construction of the components is such that they will withstand the time/temperature profiles used in both wave and reflow soldering methods.HandlingChip multilayer ceramic capacitors should be handled with care to avoid damage or contamination from perspiration and skin oils. The use of tweezers or vacuum pick ups is strongly recommended for individual components. Bulk handling should ensure that abrasion and mechanical shock are minimized. Taped and reeled components provides the ideal medium for direct presentation to the placement machine. Any mechanical shock should be minimized during handling chip multilayer ceramic capacitors.PreheatIt is important to avoid the possibility of thermal shock during soldering and carefully controlled preheat is therefore required. The rate of preheat should not exceed 4°C/second and a target figure 2°C/second is recommended. Although an 80°C to 120°C temperature differential is preferred,recent developments allow a temperature differential between the component surface and the soldering temper-ature of 150°C (Maximum) for capacitors of 1210 size and below with a maximum thickness of 1.25mm. The user is cautioned that the risk of thermal shock increases as chip size or temperature differential increases.SolderingMildly activated rosin fluxes are preferred. The minimum amount of solder to give a good joint should be used.Excessive solder can lead to damage from the stresses caused by the difference in coefficients of expansion between solder, chip and substrate. AVX terminations are suitable for all wave and reflow soldering systems. If hand soldering cannot be avoided, the preferred technique is the utilization of hot air soldering tools.CoolingNatural cooling in air is preferred, as this minimizes stresses within the soldered joint. When forced air cooling is used,cooling rate should not exceed 4°C/second. Quenching is not recommended but if used, maximum temperature differentials should be observed according to the preheat conditions above.CleaningFlux residues may be hygroscopic or acidic and must be removed. AVX MLC capacitors are acceptable for use with all of the solvents described in the specifications MIL-STD-202 and EIA-RS-198. Alcohol based solvents are acceptable and properly controlled water cleaning systems are also acceptable.
