Recently I spoke to some of my students about what they wanted to do after they graduated, and what kind of job prospects they thought they had.
One day I taught students who were training to be doctors, I was surprised to find that most thought that they would not be able to get the jobs they wanted without “outside help”. “What kind of help is that?” I asked, expecting the m to tell me that they would need a relative or family friend to help them out.
“Surgery (外科手术)”,one replied. I was pretty alarmed by that response. It seems that the graduates of today are increasingly willing to go under the knife to get ahead of others when it comes to getting a job. One girl told me that she was considering surgery to increase her height. “They break your legs, put in special extending screws, and slowly expand the gap between the two ends of the bone as it regrows, you can get at least 5 Cm taller!”
At that point, I was shocked. I am short, I can’t deny that, but I don’t think I would put myself through months of agony (痛苦)just to be a few centimeters taller. I don’t even bother to wear shoes with thick soles, as I’m not trying to hide the fact that I am just not tall! It seems to me that there is a trend toward wanting “perfection”,and that is an ideal that just does not exist in reality.
No one is born perfect, yet magazines, TV shows and movies present images of thin, tall, beautiful people as being the norm(标准). Advertisements for slimming aids, beauty treatments and cosmetic surgery clinics fill the pages of newspapers, further creating an idea that “perfection” is a requirement, and that it must be purchased, no mat ter what the cost. In my opinion, skills, rather than appearance, should determine how successful a person is in his chosen career.

B. a teacher
C. a doctor
D. a reporter

B. attract more admirers
C. get an advantage over others in job-hunt
D. become a model
26.According to the passage, the author believes that __.
A. everyone should purchase perfection, whatever the cost
B. it’s right for graduates to ask for others to help them out in hunting for jobs
C. media are to blame for misleading young people in their seeking for surgery
D. it is one’s appearance instead of skills that really matters in one’s career
27. What does the author think of his height?
A. He just accepts it as it is
B. He tries to increase his height through surgery
C. He always wears shoes with thick soles to hide the fact.
D. He hates to be called a short man.

From fast food cooks to doormen at restaurants and hotels, robots are slowly entering the workforce in nearly every industry. Most recently, the world welcomed its first operational robot policeman.
“Robocop”, the newest member of the Dubai police force, made the first public appearance on Sunday at the Fourth Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference, where it greeted guests. At about 70 inches tall and weighing nearly 220 pounds, Robocop seeks to engage with residents and tourists. Featuring an “emotion detec tor(探测器)”, the robot can recognize a person’s gestures and body language from about 5 feet away.
Robocop’s skills don’t stop there—the emotionally intelligent robot can detect if a person is happy, sad and even angry by studying his or her facial expression. And just like your human friends would do, if Robocop sees you’re unhappy, it will try to lift your spirits. More importantly, when it comes to fighting crime, the robot uses the Internet, artificial intelligence and other smart technologies to spot offenders using facial recognition. Its navigation(导航)skills grant it the ability to map out areas and travel on its own. Equipped with a built-in tablet,
Robocop can communicate with people, speak six languages, respond to public inquiries, shake hands and even make military salutes.
“With the aim to assist people on the streets,” said Brigadier-General Khalid Nasser A1 Razzouqi, director-general of smart services at Dubai Police, “the Robocop is the latest smart addition to the force and has been designed to help us fight crime recently, keep the city safe and improve happiness levels.”

Everywhere I look outside my home I see people busy on their high-tech devices, while driving, walking, shopping, even sitting in toilets. People have been influenced to become
technology addicted. One study found that people had a harder time resisting the allure of social media than they did for sleep, cigarettes and alcohol.
The main goal of technology companies is to get people to spend more money and time on their products, not to actually improve our quality of life. They have successfully created a cultural disease. Consumers willingly give up their freedom, money and time to catch up on the latest information, to keep pace with their peers or to appear modern.
I see people trapped in a pathological(病态的)relationship with time-sucking technology, where they serve technology more than technology serves them. I call this technology servitude. I am referring to a loss of personal freedom and independence because of uncontrolled consumption of many kinds of devices that eat up time and money.
What is a healthy use of technology devices? That is the vital question. Who is really in charge of my life? That is what people need to ask themselves if we are to have any chance of breaking up false beliefs about their use of technology. When we can live happily without using so much technology for a day or a week, then we can regain control and personal freedom, become the master of technology and discover what there is to enjoy in life free of technology. Mae West is famous for proclaiming(声明)the wisdom that “too much of a good thing is wonderful.” But it’s time to discover that it does not work for technology.
Richard Fernandez, an executive coach at Google acknowledged that “we can be swept away by our technologies.” To break the grand digital connection, people must consider how life long ago could be fantastic without today’s overused technology.
32. The underlined word “allure” in Paragraph 1 prob ably means ______.
A. advantage
B. attraction
C. adaption
D. attempt
33. From the passage, technology companies aim to ______.
A. attract people to buy their products
B. provide the latest information
C. improve people’s quality of l ife
D. deal with cultural diseases
34. It can be inferred from this passage that people ______.
A. consider too much technology wonderful
B. have realized the harm of high-tech devices
C. can regain freedom without high-tech devices
D. may enjoy life better without overused technology
35. What’s the author’s attitude towards the overusing of high-tech devices?
A. Neutral.
B. Skeptical.
C. Disapproving.
D. Sympathetic.

Most of us accept the fact which our parents are our first teachers. Some of our
earliest memories are from our families offering guidance and support. As we grow in both age
or intelligence, our parents teach us more about the society. There has a time when we young people believe that our parents should stop offering their advices and stop acting as teachers. We may start to think that we know much about the world than our parents. Perhaps we believe their opinions and ideas were out of date. 第二节书面表达(满分25分)
How to Communicate With Our Parents
Hello, everyone, I’d like to share my ideas about the topic of communicating with our parents.
Parents are the people devoted to us most, and that’s why it’ s necessary to keep a good relationship with them. Here are my ideas on how to make it easier to communicate with parents.
First of all, we should respect and trust our parents. Don’t be rude to them even if they have done something wrong. They have experienced more and always try their best to protect us from dangers. Secondly, if we often share with them our life and experiences, we will know each other better. What’s more, we can often tell our parents how much we love them. If sometimes we don’t agree with our parents’ decisions, we should try to put ourselves into their shoes and we will soon understand them. Please do remember they really hope that we will become the best in the future.
Thank you for listening.。
