One evening, there were a lot of people in the dinning room of his hotel. They were all busy eating something, but a Japanese was walking up and down there. He seemed to be waiting for someone. Mr. Smith thought to himself, “ Maybe the man is hungry and wants to eat something, but he doesn’t know any English. I’ll try to help him.”

If you go to a fast food restaurant, you will probably see a lot of teenagers. Today, many
teenagers are overweight, and some of this is because of their bad eating habits. Most teenagers love food w ith a lot of fat, oil, salt and sugar. People often call this kind of food “junk food”.
But bad eating habits go beyond fast food. We find many teenagers eat unhealthily. Some don’t have breakfast before they go to school. During the day, some don’t have a proper meal for lunch. In a recent survey at one school, scientists found that over two-thirds of the students didn't follow a healthy diet. They didn’t like vegetables, and many of them didn’t like to eat fruits. They preferred to eat food with a lot of salt, sugar or fat.
Parents today also worry about their children’s diet. Some doctors give the following advice: Teenagers shouldn’t eat too much junk food.
Teenagers shouldn’t eat food with too much salt. Salt can cause high blood pressure in the future.

There are thousands of different languages in the world. Everyone seems to think that his native language is the most important one, as it is his first language. But English is the world’s most widely used language.
As a native language, English is spoken by nearly three hundred million people: in the USA, Britain, Australia and some other countries.
For people in India and many other countries, English is often necessary for business, education, information and other activities. So English is the second language there.
As a foreign language, no other language is more widely studied or used than English. We use it to listen to the radio, to read books or to travel. It is also one of the working languages in the United Nation and it is more often used than the others.
