Should Class Attendance Be RequiredRequired class attendance is so common at colleges and universities that many teachers and even students themselves simply assume it is a good thing. In fact, required class attendance does more harm than good. There are several reasons that teachers should not require attendance. First, rigid attendance policies do not benefit students studies. For example, a student may have to give up a lecture which he finds important to his studies simply because of rigid attendance polices which is a contributing factor to his course performance. Second, the lectures of some teachers are not always constructive. A student should be allowed to decide for himself whether an in-class experience is worthwhile when his teacher merely repeats material from the textbook or wastes class time by telling irrelevant stories. Finally and most importantly, there is no proven correlation between attendance and performance in a course. A student may never miss a single attendance in a course, but it doesnt mean that he has acquired the knowledge of this course.Required class attendance may secure one hundred percent attendance for a course, but it does not make much sense. Should Class Attendance Be Required ?Recently, should class attendance be required has become a hot topic of discussion. Some people think it is a good way to solve the problem that students often are absent from schools while some people think it limit students’freedom and personality development. In my opinion, universities shouldn’t require class attendance. When it comes to colleges and universities classes, people must mention the problem of class attendance. And when you come to the campus of universities, you may find that just no more than twenty students sit in a big class. From those phenomena, we can know that the problem of students’ absence from schools has become a more and more serious. So universities should require class attendance to solve the urgent problem. And the reasons are as follows:On the one hand, required class attendance is benefit to students. First of all, required class attendance is a good way to avoid students’absence from class and regress intellectually. Some students who are playful and have poor self-control often skip classes that delays their progress of study. Required class attendance could make sure student’s attendance and the quality of learning. Secondly, it can help build up class of good style study. Required class attendance can guarantee all students attendant in class. And the good attendance will inspire students to work hard, which will grow up as good style study. On the other hand, required class attendance is helpful to teachers. First of all, required class attendance can ensure the conduction of teaching activities. Teaching activities are a two-way process which need teachers and student cooperate each other. If the number of students who attendant in class is very small, the teacher’s job can’t go head successfully because few student can respond. What’s more, required class attendance can guarantee that teachers are enthusiastic in class. To a teacher, his teaching enthusiasm and teaching interest must be the premise of his teaching efficiency. A high rate of absenteeism from schools must influence the teaching efficiency to some extent. So required class attendance can avoid this.In conclusion, required class attendance is not only an good way to ensure the students’ study quality, also a good way to ensure teachers’ teaching efficiency. So universities should require class attendance.。

作文范文:Should Class Attendance Be Optional It is really a common scene in college classroom and lectures: students are engaged in whatever they can think of except listening carefully to their teachers and reflecting actively on what is taught. For example, they are busy with sleep, playing games with the phone, communication with friends through short messages. Some students even are absent from classes. This phenomenon is worrying and attracting a lot of discussion among the people concerned. There is an opinion that class attendance should be optional. Firstly, the students have the freedom to choose their universities, their majors, and definitely are free to choose whether or not to go to classes. Secondly, the teaching quality has a great influence on thestudents choice. Thirdly, if the students are forced to the classroom, their careless attitude hurts both the teacher who may feel his effort is not worthy and other hard-working classmates who may be distracted. In my view, it seems plausible in theory, but the least workable in reality. In the first place, if every student has his own choice, the university will be unlikely to design the overall syllabus, and will have great difficulty in planning and managing the courses, which will do great harm to the society in the end. Whats more, respect to the teachers is a good tradition in China. Even though the students may be better than their teachers, the teachers may affect them in one way or another on their way of learning.。

college students should be required to attend class

college students should be required to attend class

On campus, absenting from classes is a common phenomenon. The situation that “cut the optional courses, choose the compulsory courses to cut”is preva lent among college students.According to some researches, there is about 65% attendance at compulsory courses and 55% attendance at optional courses. Therefore,it is not surprising that only few students are seated in a large classroom. How to make a proper excuse to cut a class is becoming the primary problem that upset college students. However, when we decide to play truant,it means that we don’t think much of both teachers and ourselves. We not only hurt teachers’ feelings on purpose, but also affect our own development. On the one hand, not attending classes is a way to show disrespect to teachers. Students can learn much more from teachers than what they can learn in the textbook. In class ,we receive the benefit of the teacher's knowledge. We can not only improve our academic performance, but also learn how to apply those knowledge. Teachers have spent so much time and effort in preparing for lessons. If we don't even go to class, it’s certain a big blow to them . Moreover, teachers will feel very depressed if there are only a few students attending classes. So we should attend classes and listen to the teacher carefully. On the other hand, not attending classes will definitely affect our academic performance and the opportunity to improve our ability. It’s impossible for you to get high marks in the final examinations without attending any classes. What’s more,at tending class can develope our interpersonal skill which is an important skill for our future.During classes,we are often divided into groups to discuss. In the discussion, we can learn some fresh thoughts from others to improve ourselves and also make some good friends during the communication. Unfortunately, we will miss the opportunity to learn from the others if they absent the class. University is not a freedom paradise as we expected.Although we have much more free time for us to arrange,we never expect to attain more free time by means of absenting classes. If so,we will lose more opportunities and challenges.。

College Students Should be Required to Attend Classes

College Students Should be Required to Attend Classes

College Students Should be Required to Attend ClassesLavenderDeep in some people’s heart, they are firmly convinced that college should be the paradise of freedom. They reckon that college students should be approved of enough rights and space to choose what they really love to do. Hence, some of them appeal for freedom to attend classes. But for me, I incline to hold that college students should be required to attend classes. Then, I would like to give you some reasons to support my standpoint.Firstly, for teachers, it’s better that students are required to attend classes. And the significant intention of it is to ensure that the discourse between teachers and students can proceed smoothly, as well as students are able to learn the knowledge that they might easily ignore. After all, if going to classes is optional for them, there might be the phenomenon that some teachers’s classes are full, while others’are slack. It is really easy to douse some teachers’ enthusiasm in teaching. And for students, it is also not a good behaviour of respect. As time passes, it might cause a disorder in teachers’teaching to some extent. What’s more, every class has its significance to exist, and every teacher has his or her shining point in teaching. But because we are still so young just like the rising sun, we don’t have enough experience to understand the beauty of the setting sun. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that we will realize these classes’ significance in some day. For example, when we were in high school, we reckoned that literature was boring and unnecessary, but now we have to acknowledge that literature is a perfect mirror to reflect cultures. However, if we just omit these classes, all of these are impossible. Then, college students should be required to attend classes is because of their sloth. Sloth is one of the natures of human beings. I am definitely convinced that most students are sensible and intelligent enough to know the significance of insistence. However, owing to people’s nature, sloth, some students may easily excuse for their absence unconsciously. For example, as we all know, some students are used to getting up lately and some are apt to be distracted by computer games. If they are required to attend classes, to escape from the punishment, they will have to get up, turn off the computer and then engage in their classes. But if going to classes if optional, they will unconsciously search for excuses to cut their classes. Such as the class is so boring, what the teachers teach is useless for the improvement of their ability, and later they are going to study it on their own. Actually, few students are able to make up the time that they spent on sleep and computer games. Therefore, requiring students to attend classes is actually a way to help them get away of their sloth. In a word, I approve of free life, but I don’t reckon that optionally going to classes is reasonable. After all, requiring students to attend classes is not only for the teachers’ enthusiasm in teaching but for our own study and long-term development.。

--泰戈尔大学英语四级写作必背范文1、COLLEGE STUDENTS SHOULD ATTEND PHYSICAL EXERCISEPhysical exercise is a necessary part of college life. However, still some college students do not like to attend sports activities, they think those activities waste their time and influence their study. Indeed, it is very unwise for college students to keep distance from physical exercise because physical exercise is not harmful but good to them.College students can benefit a lot from physical exercise. First of all, attending physical sports can help students build a strong body, and keep abounding energy. Moreover, physical exercise is an effective way to relief pressure and keep a pleasant move. Besides, by attending physical activities, students can have chances to contact and communicate with others which can help them improve their social skills. Nowadays, all colleges and universities have provided many sports facilities for students to do physical exercises, students can chose freely according to their interests and needs. As for me, I am keen on all kinds of ball games, especially football and basketball. From these games, I have gained a lot, and enjoined great pleasure. To conclude, physical exercise is beneficial to every college students, and therefore do not hesitate to attend sports activities.2、Online gamesAs a product of modern computer and the Internet, online games have become very popular among college students. Many students have enjoyed great pleasure and satisfaction from these games. But as we see, somestudents lacking self discipline on too much indulge in these games. So that their health and academic performances are affected. This phenomenon has caused much worry from the teachers and parents. However, some others argue that online games are not always harmful. They can train their ability of youngsters to respond to things quickly. Moreover, they can stimulate their imagination and their interest in computer science. More importantly, it does bring college students much pleasure and release their pressure greatly.Form my point of view, online games are wonderful entertainment if you play them in a clever way. When they interfere too much with your study, it is better for you to give them up at once, but if you have enough self control over them, you can certainly obtain real pleasure and benefit a lot from them.3、Certificates Craze on CampusIn recent years, to get a certificate has become a new craze among college students. Just randomly, ask a student on campus what he or she is busy doing, quite possibly, you may get the answer that he or she is preparing for a certificate of some kind. Why does this craze appear? There are two mainly reasons behind this phenomenon. First, it is the employments pressure that forces college students to get more certificates. With the admission expansion of colleges, a large more graduates have to face the fierce competition in the job markets. How can one make himself more competitive, more certificates at hands maybe. Second, the diplomas and certificates are still importa nt standard by which many employers measure a person’s ability in order to increase qualification for a job, the students compel themselves to run from one exam to another.Form my point of view, we should be more rational when it comes to certificates, since certificates do not necessarily prove one’s ability, being crazy in getting certificates blindly. It is nothing but wasting time. To conclude, we should focus on improving our ability but not getting a certificate of no practical value.4、How to deal with peer pressure?College students are often obsessed by peer pressure from their classmates or schoolmates. Facing others’ hard work and good performance in academic and other aspects, many students feel great pressure. Then, how to deal with this kind of peer pressure? The following measures can be taken.First, you should take a careful look at your present level and set a practical object. You needn’t always compare yourselves with those on the top and just make your efforts towards your object.Second, under peer pressure, you shouldn’t feel discouraged and pressed. Instead, you should make it your motivation for harder work. Finally, if you find pressure i s nearly beyond your control, you’d better turn to professional psychological guidance. As a college student, I have no way to avoid peer pressure, so I try to figure out the way to do with it well. I set my own goal, including my practical level and my position among the peers. Because of my focus on my own goal, I have no time and energy to think about the pressure. So I’m little troubled by it.To conclude, we should not escape from peer pressure, but learn to make best use of it, since it can hardly be avoided.5、Should college students be tutors?Nowadays there are more and more provided tutors among college students. Some students even take a few tutor jobs at the same time. People have different opinions about this phenomenon. Some people believe college students can benefit a lot from being tutors. On the one hand they can earn some money and lessen the burden on their family. On the other hand they can have chances to apply their knowledge to the solution to the practical problems. However still others object to college students being a tutor. They think that a student should focus on his study instead of doing a part-time job. If they spend too much time on teaching, they will not have enough time to study, and naturally their academic performance will be affected. In the two arguments, I’m in favor of the former one. In my opinion, to be a tutor is a good practical activity for us college students, from which we can gain practical experience and skills. But it is worth noting that we cannot spend too much time in being tutors. We should balance the relationship between the tutor job and study.6、Welcome to the camera clubWelcome to the camera club. What you need to do is just to call us at 62514479 or email us at cameraclub@. Looking forward to your participation.7、Extravagant spending on college campusAccording to a survey, in recent years, the monthly expenditure of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students spend money like water and have no concept of thrift in their mind. They take it for granted that they spend money from their parents before they enter into society. This extravagant spending is mainly causd by the following factors: First of all, nowadays, most students are the only children of their families. They are the apple in their family's eyes and naturally get more care and pocket money. Secondly, with the improvement of living standards, parents can afford higher expenditures of their children. Thirdly, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tends to need more money. Finally, campus love is also a possible factor causing extravagant spending.Form my point of view, a college student as a pure consumer should learn to be thrifty we should limit our expenditure on barely necessities but not buy whatever we want, regardless of their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our future development.8、 A quarrel in the dormitoryWeeks ago I witnessed the quarrel between my two roommates. It shocked me the two good friends fired out just for a very trifling matter. It was in the morning at weekend when I was washing my face in the bathroom. Suddenly I heard Ann and Sue shouting at each other. I hurried to come out to see what happened. It turned out that the noise of Sue’s closing the door waked Ann, whose bed is just beside the door. Ann thought Sue deliberatel y closed the door heavily. Sue didn’t have made her fault and said Ann was making trouble out of nothing. So their argument became ambits of quarrel. Though later they stopped quarreling under our persuasion, neither of them would like apologize to the other.Such a quarrel leaves me to think a lot about dormitory harmony. If either Ann or Sue can be a little tolerant or take a better way to express herself, this quarrel, I think, can be avoided easily. It is no doubt that a harmony dormitory life benefits all the members. But it needs our common efforts to build it.9、 A Letter Applying for a Bank Loan To whom it may concern, I am a freshman of Lianhe University, majoring in Applied Physics. I am writing in the hope that I may obtain a bank loan to support my study in Applied Physics for the following four years. My parents are both laid-off workers, so it’s beyond their power to finance me through the college education. To make matters worse, my mother has suddenly fallen ill and is expecting a major operation. the college tuition becoming a much heavier burden on my family, I am compelled to apply for a RMB20,000 bank loan.I give you my promise that the loan would be used properly. Meanwhile, I’ll spare no effort to work hard both in the study and my future career so as to pay back the loan. I would be greatly bliged if my application is granted. And I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.Sincerely yours,Song Xue10、Study and Work-study ProgramNowadays, more and more college students are taking part in work-study programs in their spare time. Many of them choose to be a tutor or doing a part-time job in school dining room or library. Also some others do a part-time delivering man or promotion specialist or other jobs alike. There are mainly three different reasons for college students to take work-study program. First, to earn money is the main aim of many students, they want to relieve the burden on their family by doing a part-time job. Second, some students take work-study programs as a channel by which know the society and improve their practical skills. Third, still other students doing part-time job just for fun or kill From my point of view, it goes without saying that college students can benefit a lot from work-study programs. However, those students who get part-time jobs should keep it in mind that study is prior to anything else. Besides, they should spend their income from part-time job reasonably.11、How to build an ideal teacher-student relationshipThe relationship between a teacher and the student can be either good or bad, helpful or harmful. Either way, the relationship may affect the student for the rest of his life. A good teacher-student relationship will make learning enjoyable and efficient, and make the teacher's job worthwhile. In contrast, a bad relationship can discourage the students from learning, and make teaching an unpleasant task. But how to build an ideal teacher-student relationship. First of all, the teacher and the student should respet each other, which is the precondiction about good relationship. Moreover the teacher's attitude plays an important role. If the teacher is too strict, it might frighten the student. On the other hand,if the teacher is too permissive, the student may become lazy. Besides, the teacher should give the student encouragement, as well as have patients and understanding. Finally, as for the student, he should be eager for knowledge and williing to work hard. If he learns from his teacher modestly, he will be able to profit fully from his teacher's teaching. In conclusion, a good teacher-student relationship need common efforts from both the teacher and the student, and it can be mutually beneficial. The student gains knowledge enjoyably and the teacher gains satisfaction from his teaching job.12、Social Practice of College StudentsNowadays, many universities encourage and organize students to take part in social practice activities. During the holidays, more and more students choose to be the volunteers, take part-time jobs or take part in other practical activities alike. It is obvious that social practice is playing a more and more important role in Chinese college education. Undoubtedly, college students have benefited a lot from social practice. Above all, there are provided with more opportunities to contact the real world outside the campus. Moreover, in social practice activities, students can apply their knowledge to solution to practical problems. So the social practice skills are improved greatly. Besides, social practice help strengthen students since social responsibility. Considering their above mentions. I think it is necessary for college students to participant in social practice. However, social practice may bring some problems. For example, some students spend too much time in taking part-time jobs so as to ignore their study. Therefore, we should try to balance relationship between social practice and study.13、An Invitation LetterDear Xue Feng,This June 30th I am going to graduate, so I want to hold a party on Saturday evening in my house. The party will begin at seven thirty p.m. Is it possible for us to see you at seven on Saturday evening in my house? I do hope you can come.Sincerely yours,Ma Yuan14、In colleges and universities, the phenomenon of students skipping classes is not unusual. There are often some students who skip those classes for feeling unwell or other private reasons. Besides, still some students don’t go to class without any reason but for they don’t want to.There are two main reasons for college students skiping classes. First, compared with in middle school, students have more freedom in college. It depends more on one student’s consciousness whether he will attend the class. So those colleges students lacking self-discipline begin to skip classes. Second, some teachers’ lectures could not attract students’ interests, so that some students would rather skip classes to study what they are interested in.For whatever reasons, skipping classes does bring negative effects on students’ study. Therefore, it is necessary to take some effective measures to reduce this phenomenon. On the one hand, the school and teachers should make students realize the negative effects of skipping classes and enhance their consciousness of attending the class. On the other hand, teachers have to improve their teaching quality to a ttract students’ interests in the courses. Only in this way can the phenomenon of skipping classes be reduced as soon as possibly.15、 A Boom in Continuing EducationFrom the graph , we can learn the number of the Continuing Education participation has kept increasing from 1992 to 2007 in X city. In 1992 there were only thirty thousand people taking part in the Continuing Education, but in 1995 the number grown to 60 thousand ,and in 2000, one hundred and 40 , and by to 2007, the number has reached two hundred and teen thousand . It can be seen easily that Continuing Education is gaining more and more popularity. the following reasons are responsible for this boom in Continuing Education.firstly, during the work many people begin to realize what they have learned in school is far from enough. so they turn to Continuing Education to gain more knowledge and skills. Moreover, as the science and technology in China are developing very fast, adults after graduation have to refresh themselves . In addition in modern society . though without Bachelor have been laid off. A less competitive .as far as I am concernd theBoom in Continuing Education is a necessity. Improvise those under job people with transcends to get advanced degrees and gain more knowledge. As our society is developing ,more and more people will receive Continuing Education in the future.16、 A Letter of CongratulationDear Jack,I am delighted to learn that you are going to graduate. Most people take it for granted that students should attend all the classes required by school. However still some others do not agree with this argument. They don't think it should be compulsory for students to attend class. As for me, I'm in favor of the latter opinion. The following reasons can account for my preference. First, the rigid attendance policy does not benefit students' studies. For example, a student may have to give up a lecturewhich he finds useful to his studies simply because he dare not run the rest of being penalized for his absence in his course. Second, the lectures of some teachers are not always constructive. A student should be allowed to tell for himself whether an inclass experience is worthwhile. Finally and most importantly, there is no proving and corelation between class attendance and academic performance. A student may never be absent in a course, but who knows whether or not he is just sitting there daydreaming all the time.In conclusion, class attendance may secure one hundred percent attendance for a course. But it is not really beneficial to us. As college students we should learn to make the right decisions for ourselves about whether to attend a class.18、Machine Translation and Human TranslationIn recent years, all kinds of electronic dictionaries and translation software have been developed. With the development of technology, these electronic dictionaries and software can help us translate not only words and phrases, but even sentences and paragraphs. So some people come to the conclusion that machine translation will replace traditional human translation. However,I couldn't agree with this argument.Admittedly, translation machines and software bring much convenience for our study and work. With them,we needn't bother to live through the heavy dictionaries. However, machine translation has its disadvantages. First, generally speaking, translation software only can give direct translation, which is sometimes not in accordance with the original articles in logic and meaning. Second, some people depend on electronic dictionaries and software too much, which is unfavorable to their improvement in language ability.Considering the above mentioned, I think that machine translation cannot replace human translation, but itis a good complementary to human translation. Therefore,we should combine machine translation with human translation effectively.19、How to make full use of reference books?Nowadays reference books have become a problem of great concern for both teachers and students. There are many kinds of reference books available in the book market. A smarter use of these books is certainly beneficial. But the misuse and over-use of them may cause a lot of problems.First of all, teaching reference books might make the students less attentive in class. Armed with reference books, many students may think that they know what the teacher is going to talk about. So they may not listen to the teacher in class at all. Secondly, some students rely on the reference books too much, which is unfavorable to the improvement of their ability to work out the solutions for themselves. Thirdly, there are some reference books with many mistakes, which might mislead the students.Considering the above mentioned, we should be careful in selecting and using reference books. Firstly,we should check the contents of the book carefully, but not only pay attention to the brand of the publishing house. In addition we can turn to the recommendation of teachers and students around us. Besides, reference books are just an assistant, so we shouldn't rely on them too much. Only in this way can we make full use of reference books. 20、University mergence is a new trend in university development. As a hot topic on and off campus, it has received much of public attention. People's attitudes towards it vary greatly.People who against it see it as a hasty decision, which has some potential problems. They claim, for instance, located far away from each other, universities involved with mergence are usually faced with the tough problem of management.Other people who favor it see it as a step that universities take towards the goal of first-rate world university. They argue that, only through mergence can university take full play of advantages and make up their disadvantages. Like the mergence between Tsinghua University and the Institude of Applied Arts. The university's strengths in the field of high techonology complement the latter university that has a reputation for art. They also point out that by mergence the Chinese universities will increase their competitie power in the world. In my opinion, the university mergence has more advantages than disadvantages, but the university should take into account the potential dangers resulting from the mergence.21、Will network classrooms replace traditional classrooms? With the popular visitation of the internet, network classrooms are gaining more and more popularity. As a new teaching pattern, network classrooms have become an effective compliment to traditional classrooms. So some people propose on question “Will network classrooms replace traditional classrooms?”As to this question, the opinions vary from one to another. Some people think it quite possible for network classrooms to take the place of traditional classrooms. First, network classrooms needn’t have face-to-face communication, and are not limited by time and place, which facilities both teachers and students. Secondly, network classrooms release teachers from repeating the same contents. Since the video or audio material can be played time and again. However, many people have opposite stand points. They say that with online courses students like direct communication with teachers and their confusion can not be solved instantly. In addition, the computer system can not be guaranty to work staidly all the time. Personally, both network classrooms and traditional classrooms are necessary for students. If traditional teaching patterns and motor ones like network classrooms can be combined together, more fruitful education is sure to be realized.22、 A Letter of ApologyDear Mr Wang,I'm writing you this letter to apologize for my failing to hand in the paper on time. I'm very sorry for the convenience brought by my delay. Please accept my sincere apology with gratitude. The reason for my delay was the time was knocked down by a cold. Moreover,I had no way out because I was too weak to write a single word. Therefore,it is not in my power to finish the paper on time. I hope you will understand me and excuse me for mydelay. However, I would do my utmost to finish the paper and hand it in as soon as possible. In my opionion, the importance of punctuality cannot be emphasized too much. So I assure you that I will hand in my homework on time from now on.Sincerely yours,Wu Hua23、Campus LecturesNowadays more and more lectures are held on college campuses. These lectures are usually on different topics, such as arts, life, psycology, the economy, world issues. Lectures have become an important part of college campus life. Undoubtedly college students have benefited a lot from various lectures. Above all, the lectures broaden the students' knowledge horizon and cultivate their interest in different fields. What's more, some lectures teach students practical knowledge and skills, such as how to make up and how to become self-confident. Besides, lectures make the life of college students colourful and enjoyable. With these merits, lectures are a good complement to required classes. However,if a student spends too much time attending lectures, his regular study might be affected. Therefore,in my opinion, college students should attend good lectures on condition that they do their class work as well.24、Does a Student Need Private Tutoring?A recent investigation shows that about 70 percent of middle school students in cities have private tutors. Such a popular practice indicates that parents are attaching greater importance to their children's education. However, private tutoring has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, many parents have not enough ability or time to help their children in study. Private tutoring is a good solution to this problem. In addition, private tutoring is usually one-to-one, so the teacher canknow the weak points as well as the strong points of the pupil, and thus teaching is, in most cases, directly to the point. On the other hand, private tutoring has its own disadvantages. For one thing, it takes up so much of the pupil’s time that he can hardly find enough time for rest and entertainment. For another, some tutors, busy “shuttling” from one family to another, tend to be unable to concentrate on their teaching duties as tutors.Considering the above-mentioned, I think the disadvantages of private tutoring outweigh its advantages. In my opinion, greater emphasis should be laid on classroom teaching and practice, on the improvement of teaching quality and on the tapping of the pupil’s potential. Only in this way can a new generation be healthily brought up.25、Is Good Appearance More Important than Capability?Old people often tell the young, “Don’t judge a person by his appearance”, meaning capability is more important than appearance. However, nowadays, with more interviewers putting emphasis on looks and the appearance of the applicants(独立主格结构表示原因), a lot of people come to the conclusion(得出结论) that appearance is more important than capability.老人们常告诉年轻人:“不要以貌取人”,意思就是说能力比容貌更加重要。

In a 1995 poll conducted by the Gallup Organization, quite a few people said they would do so, yet researchers find that work is one of life’s chief satisfactions for many people.Consider Liu Yian, 23, a former school teacher. Before she quit her job in 1994, she taught at a high school. Although the salary was quite moderate, she liked her job and worked so successfully that in only one year’s time after her graduation from college, she not only won a prize for excellence in teaching, but also enjoyed wide popularity among her students. You should write noless than 150 words and base your composition on the outline (givenin Chinese) below:1.许多大学都实行上课出勤点名制2.你认为有无必要实行这种制度3.为什么Required class attendance is so common at colleges and universities that may teachers and even students themselves simply assume it is a good thing. In fact, required class attendance does more harm than good. There are several reasons that teachers should not require attendance. First, rigid attendance policies do not benefit students; studies. For example, a student may have to give up a lecture which he finds vital to his studies simply because he dare not run the risk of being penalized for poor attendance in his course. Second, the lectures of some teachers are not always constructive. A student should be allowed to decide for himself whether an in-class experience is worthwhile when his teacher merely repeats material from the textbook or wastes class time by telling irrelevant stories. Finally and most importantly, there is no proven correlation between attendance and performance, but who knows whether or not he is just sitting there daydreaming all the time?Required class attendance may secure one hundred percent attendance for a course, but it does not make much sense.Problem of PiracyDirections: For this part, you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic Problem of Piracy. You should write about 150 wordsand base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:1.盗版现象日益严重2.盗版造成的后果3.我对抵制盗版问题的看法Nowadays, the problem of piracy has become more and more serious. Books, tapes, VCDs and other high-tech products almost all have been pirated. When a new product comes into market, very probably, its pirated counterpart will soon make its appearance in the market, too.Piracy has caused a great loss to the legitimate (合法的) producers, inventors and writers, and made great confusion in the markets. Because the pirated products often cost much less than the genuine ones, they enjoy a pretty good selling in spite of their relatively poor quality, The genuine products, on the contrary, sell poorly. This happens especially to some high-tech products, whose prices are often expensive. In addition, in the case of the pirated books, sometimes, they do great harm to the authors’ names due to some misprintings. However, piracy doesn’t benefit those customers who buy the pirated products, because in the long run, customers will suffer a big loss for the sake of small gains. Shouldn’t we solve the problem now?In my opinion, the problem of piracy should receive due attention now, and it’s time everyone stated the battle against piracy. First, customers should develop their consciousness to resist the pirated products. Besides, government should take effective measures to stop piracy. Finally stronger laws must be strictly executed to completely ban piracy. Only in this way can we wipe out piracy.Cyber CrimesDirections: For this part you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Cyber Crimes. Still others unleash viruses to crash computers. As a result, these hackers do a great damage to companies and computer users, causing computer losses up to 10 billion dollars per year.Naturally, there are many causes for the cyber crimes. In addition to the wicked nature of the hackers, the frailties of Internet partially nourish the crimes. Just because there are holes in Internet-the complex software is buggy and often infested, the cyber vandals can find out the weakness in the Website software programs and by manipulating software glitches, gain access to Website, committing all kinds of crimes. However, we shouldn’t tolerate these cyber criminals any more. And it’s high time for us to take all the effective steps to battle the cyber crooks. First we should reinforce the cyber laws to protect the Web, the powerful engine of economy. You should write noless than 150 words and base your composition on the outline (givenin Chinese) below:1.有人认为解决能源危机的方法是厉行节约2.有人则认为开发新的能源是最好办法3.我的看法When asked about one of the biggest problems today, many people say that an energy crisis is approaching and is threatening mankind’s survival. They are afraid that the world is likely to run out of oil and metals and to run short of food in the near future. To this problem, most countries respond with the demand for more rigid conservation of our natural resources. Indeed, this is urgently needed, for the present waste of energy in industrial and personal consumption in so serious that it has become habitual and traditional. If the natural resources are used economically, we can certainly slow down the present drain on the limited energy supply. However, conservation alone is not the answer. It is obvious that even if we can save much energy, we can only delay the energy crisis, but cannot solve the problem completely. However abundant certain natural resources may be, they cannot reproduce themselves and are bound to be used up ultimately. So in the long run we must develop new sources of energy instead of merely conserving the known, limited supplies.Man is highly adaptable and creative, and sine he is able to tap such resources as oil and metals, why can’t he develop and harness solar energy, unclear energy and other unknown energy resources? To Leave or to Stay—My Choice on GraduationDirections:For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic To Leave or to Stay—My Choice on Graduation. Or course, earning money is another motivation for their leaving. However, some other students choose to stay and pursue their further study in college. For another, they are keenly interested in their subject and university is a good place to do more research and study. For another, the development of society demands people have better qualifications. The higher degree one holds, the more competent one will become. As to me, I belong to the second kind. I like my major and want to learn more. With several more years in university, I will be a better-educated person with surer control of myself and a better understanding of the world. Naturally, it will be easier fro me to find a more satisfactory job in the future.Once a Thief, Always a Thief?Directions: For this part you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic Once a Thief, Always a thief? You should write no lessthan 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given inChinese) below:1. Some people believe that once a person has committed some kindof crime, he will never be a respectable man.2. Whereas I believe that …3. Conclusion“Watch him. Maybe he will steal something from you. He used to be a thief.” We often hear others talk about somebody like this. People often do not believe a person who has once been a thief. But one has once been a thief, one is always a thief? Some people believe that once a person has committed some kind of crime, he will never be a respectable man. They think that the fact a person once has been a thief shows that he want to be a thief deep in his heart. His subconscious of being a thief will let him do wrong again and again. So they will never believe a person who was once a thief. They will always consider him a thief.Whereas I believe that a person can become a good person, though he once has done wrong. Deep in a person’s heart, everybody wants to be a respectable man. It is the bad outside environment that causes him commit some kind of crime. So a good environment can also make him a good man. If we all treat him fairly, and show him the right way to do, everybody can give up evil and return to good. From this point of view, we should not consider a person that once has been a thief as a thief forever. We should believe that he can return to good, andwe should help him to do this. There is an old Chinese saying “It is the best of best that a person correct his own mistake.”。

学生追求名牌英语作文1Should Class Attendance be Required?Nowadays required class attendance is very common at colleges and universities. Most people accept ti as a necessary policy t ensure the normal teaching order and create a good study atmosphere. Besieds, they think it is a good urge for those students who lack self-discipline.However, still some others do not agree this argument. In their opinion, rigid attendance policies do not benefit students studies. A student may have to give up a lecture which he finds bital to his studies simply because he dare not run the risk of being penalized for his absence of his course. Besides, they say there is no proven correlation between attendance and performance. As for me, I am in favor of the latter opinion. Required class attendance may secure one hundred percent attendance for a course, but it does not make much sense. A student may never be absent in a course, but who knows whether or not he is just sistting there daydreaming all the time. Therefore, a student should allowed to decide for himself whether an in-class wxperience is worthwhile.学生追求名牌英语作文2University Students’ Pursuit of Famous Brands“What perfumes are you wearing?” “Aren’t your shoesNike’s latest release?” “I like the Mickey bag you bought yesterday.” “I hear the Jack & Jones store is on sale this week. Do you wanna come along?” Don’t feel surprised if you hear them coming out of the mouth of college students. It’s quite common to hear and see college students swapping information about the brands they like and the products they use. In fact, discussions about brand names have become one of the college students’ favourite pastimes. They learn about the latest fashion from each other, exchange tips about when and where to get the item, and buy it at their earliest convenience. “Keeping up with the Joneses” is their conviction —“If the J oneses have it, how could I have not?” About this current mindset of the college students, many people may hasten to show their disapproval. They’ll probably take it to be a reflection of the students’ vanity and superficiality. And they may lecture them on the virtue of being thrifty. However, I beg to differ. For one thing, name-brand products are usually quality products. They are something beautiful, endurable, and reliable. “The love of beauty is common to all,” goes the proverb; therefore, there’s not hing to blame about the pursuit of famous brands. For the other, college students are old enough to make their own decisions. Likewise, they must abide by the consequences if they make an ill-advised one. If they let their pursuit of brands eat into their budget for other more important issues, they should be able to correct their mistakes and keep everything in moderation. So this becomes no other than a good chance to learn management, isn’t it?。

Proponents argue that extracurriculars provide numerous benefits that enhance students' overall development, while opponents contend that they can be overly demanding and detrimental to academic performance.Extracurricular activities encompass a wide range of pursuits, including sports, music, art, clubs, and volunteer work. Advocates maintain that these activities foster essential skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving. Extracurriculars also provide opportunities for self-expression and creativity, encouraging students to explore their talents and interests.Furthermore, extracurricular activities have beenlinked to improved academic outcomes. Studies have shownthat students who participate in these activities tend to have higher grades, better attendance, and improved standardized test scores. Extracurriculars can helpstudents develop time management skills, discipline, and a work ethic that carries over into their academic pursuits. However, opponents of mandatory extracurriculars argue that they can be overly burdensome for students who are already facing a heavy academic workload. They contend that extracurriculars can lead to stress, burnout, and adecrease in academic performance. Additionally, they assert that extracurriculars can be exclusionary, particularly for students who do not have the financial means or the time to participate in certain activities. Moreover, critics argue that extracurriculars can becompetitive and hierarchical, creating an environment that fosters anxiety and undermines students' self-esteem. The telephone box, with two broken panes of glass in the side, stands at the junction of two main roads with buses, lorries and cars roaring past. It is pouring with rain as George joins a queue of four depressed-looking people. Time passes slowly and seems to come to a standstill while the person immediately before George carries on an endless conversation, pausing only to insert another coin every minute or so.Eventually the receiver is replaced and the caller leaves the box. George enters and picks up one of the directories inside, only to discover that someone unknown has torn out the very page he needs. Nothing for it but to dial Directory Enquiries. He wait patiently for a reply(while someone outside bangs repeatedly on the door) and finally note down the number given. At last George can go ahead with his call. Just as he is starting to dial, however, the door opens and an unpleasant-looking face peers in with the demand“Can't you hurry up?”. Ignoring such barbarity, George continues to dial and his unwanted companion withdraws. At last he hears the burr-burr of the ringing tone, immediately followed by rapid pips demanding his money, but he is now so upset that he knocks down the coins he has placed ready on the top of the box. Having at last located them, he dials again: the pips are repeated and he hastily inserts the coins. A cold voice informs him,“Grand Hotel, Chalfont Wells.”“I've an urgent message for a Mr. Smith who is a guest in your hotel. Could you p ut me through to him? I'm afraid I don't know his room number.”The response appears less than enthusiastic and a long long silence follows. George inserts more coins. Then the voice informs him,“I've been trying to locate Mr. Smith but the hall porter reports having seen him leave about a minute ago.”Breathing heavily, George replaces the receiver, just as the knocking on the door starts again. 图片第21题The main intention of the passage is to provide______.A.instructions about how to use a public call boxB.advice about how to deal with public telephone problemsC.criticism of the efficiency of telephone systemD.an account of possible annoyances in using a public telephone第22题Which of the following calls are you unlikely to make at the“cheap rate”referred to?A.To discuss your account in a bank in Scotland.B.To have a chat with an elderly relation.C.To ask about a friend in hospital who has just had an operation.D.To express Christmas greetings to cousins in Australia.第23题George can at least be thankful that _______.A.the call box is in a convenient positionB.the telephone itself is workingC.he can use the directory in the box to find the numberD.he is able to give his message to the hotel receptionist第24题Why does George have to dial a second time?A.He hasn't remembered to put the money in the box.B.He hasn't got enough money with him.C.He has got to find the money to put in the box.D.He can't find the number he want in the directory.第25题What are George's feelings when he completes his call?A.He has some difficulty in controlling his annoyance.B.He is very disappointed at missing his friends.C.He is annoyed with himself for being so stupid.D.He is depressed at the thought of having to try again to get through.上一题下一题(26~30/共20题)Part II Reading ComprehensionDirections: There are 4 passages in this part. And certainly, from a practical standpoint, it will be the only book you'll ever need. No. It's not the Bible or some New Age tome promising enlightenment—although it would let you carry around both texts simultaneously. It's an electronic book--a single volume that could contain a library of information or, if your tastes run toward what's current, every title on today's best-seller list. And when you're done with those, you could refill it with new titles. Why an electronic book? Computers can store a ton of data and their laptop companions make all that information portable. True enough. But laptops (便携式电脑) and similar portable information devices require a lot of power—and heavy batteries—to keep their LCD screens operating. And LCDs are not easy to read in the bright light of the sun.Fact is, when it comes to portability, easy viewing, and low power requirements, it's hard to beat plain old paper. So let's make the ink electronic. That's the deceptively simple premise behind a project currently coming to fruition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Some hurdles—mostly having to do with large-scale manufacturing-remain, so it will be a few years before you see an electronic book for sale in stores. But the basic technology already exists, developed at the Institute's Media Lab by a team led by physicist Joe Jacobson. Thanks to electronic ink, the book essentially typesets itself, receiving instructions for each page via electronics housed in the spine. From a power standpoint, this process makes theelectronic book very efficient. Unlike an LCD screen, which uses power all the time, energy is no longer needed to view the electronic book's pages once they are typeset. Only a small battery would be required, as opposed to the large ones needed to power laptop computers and their LCDs.Convenience, though, is still the main attraction—and that means more than simple portability. Because the information is in electronic form, it can be easily manipulated.Jacobson thinks an electronic book will be affordable—around $ 200 for a basic read-only model to about $ 400 for one that would record your margin scribbles. Some hurdles remain, though, before you can take an electronic book with you anywhere. Paper is produced in long sheets, and Jacobson is still working on the best method to integrate electronic ink into that process. To avoid having to use thousands of tiny wires on each page, the ink itself must be conductive. Such ink was recently demonstrated in the lab but has yet to be produced in volume.“Essentially,”notes Jacobson,“We're trying to print chips.”Jacobson is confident, however, that this can be done on a large scale. If Jacobson succeeds, he will have made the book for the 21st century. 图片第26题It will be a few years before we see electronic book for sale because _______.A.we haven't master the manufacturing technology yetB.the electronic ink which must be conductive couldn't be produced in large scaleC.the electronic books will be too expensive to buyD.you can't take an electronic book with you anywhere第27题According to the passage, which book is the only book you'll ever need?A.The Bible.B.A single volume.C.New Age tome.D.An electronic book.第28题About electronic book, which of the following statements is not true?A.It can contain a library of information or every title on today's best-seller list.B.Although we know the basic technology, we can't see it for sale now.C.The laptop need a lot of power to keep LCD screens work, and those screens have shortcoming.D.You can change the title and the content in the electronic book as you like.第29题What is the premise behind a project of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology?A.Electronic ink.B.Electronic book.ptop.D.LCD screen.第30题What is the main difference between an electronic book and a LCD screen?A.The power they need.B.The portability they come to.C.The convenience they make.D.The content they store.上一题下一题(31~35/共20题)Part II Reading ComprehensionDirections: There are 4 passages in this part. Fortunately it is no longer necessary that every lecture or every book about this subject has to start with the proof of this idea. At present it is generally accepted, although more as a self-evident statement than on the base of a closely-reasoned scientific proof. The recognition of the importance greenspaces in the urban environment is a first step on the right way, this does not mean, however, that sufficient details are known about the functions of greenspace in towns and about the way in which the inhabitants are using these spaces. As to this rather complex subject I shall, within the scope of this lecture, enter into one aspect only, namely the recreative function of greenspace facilities. The theoretical separation of living, working, traffic and recreation which for many years has been used in town-and-country planning, has in my opinion resulted in disproportionate attention for forms of recreation far from home, whereas there was relatively little attention for improvement of recreative possibilities in the direct neighbourhood of the home. We have come to the conclusion that this is not right, because an important part of the time which we do not pass in sleeping or working, is used for activities at and around home. So it is obvious that recreation in the open air has to begin at the street-door of the house. The urban environment has to offer as many recreation activities as possible, and the design of these has to be such that more obligatory activities can also have a recreative aspect. The very best standard of living is nothing if it is not possible to take a pleasant walk in the district, if the children cannot be allowed to play in the streets, because the risks of traffic are too great, if during shopping you can nowhere find a spot of enjoying for a moment the nice weather, in short, if you only feel yourself at home after the street-door of your house is closed after you. 图片第31题According to the author, the importance of greenspaces in the urban environment ______.A.is still unknownB.is being closely studiedC.is usually neglectedD.has been fully recognized第32题The theoretical separation of living, working, traffic and recreation has led to ______.A.the disproportion of recreation facilities in the neighbourhoodB.the location of recreation facilities far from homeC.relatively little attention for recreative possibilitiesD.the improvement of recreative possibilities in the neighborhood第33题The author suggests that the recreative possibilities of greenspace should be provided _______.A.in special areasB.in the suburbsC.in the neighbourhood of the houseD.in gardens and parks第34题According to the author, greenspace facilities should be designed in such a way that ______.A.more obligatory activities might take on a recreative aspectB.more and more people might have access to themC.an increasing number of recreative activities might be developedD.recreative activities might be brought into our homes第35题The main idea of this passage is that ______.A.better use of greenspace facilities should be made so as to improve the quality of our lifeB.attention must be directed to the improvement of recreative possibilitiesC.the urban environment is providing more recreation activities than it did many years agoD.priority must be given to the development of obligatory activities上一题下一题(36~40/共20题)Part II Reading ComprehensionDirections: There are 4 passages in this part. You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre. The health-care economy is replete with unusual and even unique economic relationships. One of the least understood involves the peculiar roles of producer or“provider”and purchaser sectors of the economy. It is the seller who attempts to attract a potential buyer with various inducements of price, quality, and utility, and it is the buyer who makes the decision. Where circumstances permit the buyer no choice because there is effectively only one seller and the product is relatively essential, government usually asserts monopoly and places the industry under price and other regulations. Neither of these conditions prevails in most of the health-care industry. In the health-care industry, the doctor-patient relationship is the mirror image of the original relationship between producer and consumer. Once an individual has chosen to see a physician—and even then there may be no real choice—it is the physician who usually makes all significant purchas ing decisions:whether the patient should return“next Wednesday”, whether X-rays are needed, whether drugs should be prescribed, etc. It is a rare and sophisticated patient who will challenge such professional decisions or raise in advance questions about price, especially when the ailment is regarded as serious. This is particularly significant in relation to hospital care. The physician must certify the need for hospitalization, determine what procedures will be performed, and announce when the patient may be discharged. The patient may be consulted about some of these decisions, but in the main it is the doctor's judgments that are final. Little wonder then that in the eyes of the hospital it is the physician who is the real“consumer”. As a consequence, the medical staff represents the“power center”in hospital policy and decision-making, not the administration. 图片第36题The author's primary purpose is to _____.A.speculate about the relationship between a patient's ability to pay and the treatment receivedB.criticize doctors for exercising too much control over patientsC.analyze some important economic factors in health careD.urge hospitals to reclaim their decision-making authority第37题It can be inferred that doctors are able to determine hospital policies because _______.A.it is doctors who generate income for the hospitalB.most of a patient's bills are paid by his health insuranceC.hospital administrators lack the expertise to question medical decisionsD.a doctor is ultimately responsible for a patient's health第38题According to the author, when a doctor tells a patient to return next Wednesday, the doctor is in effect______.A.taking advantage of the patient's concern for his healthB.instructing the patient to buy more medical servicesC.warning the patient that a hospital stay might be necessaryD.advising the patient to seek a second opinion第39题The author is most probably leading up to ______.A.a proposal to control medical costsB.a discussion of a new medical costsC.a discussion of a new medical treatmentD.an analysis of the causes of inflation in the United States第40题The most important feature of a“consumer”as that term is used (Line 4,Para. 3) is that“consumer”is the Party that _______.A.pays for goods or servicesB.delivers goods or servicesC.orders goods or servicesD.supplies goods and services to a third party上一题下一题(1/30)Part ⅢVocabulary and StructureDirections: There are 30 incomplete sentences in this part. 大英4作文范文1、Grades Can Not Say EverythingMany people have such thought that high grade means high ability。

In order to get a satisfaction grades, students work hard with almost no play. However, grades can't say everything.Undoubtedly, high grades don’t mean that one is excellent in everything。

A case in point is that one may have a poor academic performance but show a great talent in music。

Grades can be affected by many uncertain factors, like student’s psychological state。

For example, there are some excellent students who can’t perform well just because they are too nervous. All mentioned above tell us that in many cases grades can’t measure one’s ability accurately。

And it is only and indicator to evaluate one’s comprehensive ability。

Therefore,we should not pay too much attention on high grades but should focus on developing a student’s comprehensive ability。

Should Class Attendance be Strictly Required in College

Should Class Attendance be Strictly Required in College
As far as I am concerned, as college students, we don’t need a school’s rule to restrain ourselves, we have the responsibility for our own behaviors. Therefore, try to respect your professors and learn something from them in university.
Firstly, a strict class attendance will rob us of freedom of learning. College is a free and open place for students to learn where shouldn’t be too many rules. As college students, we have already know what we really want and have the ability to choose what we want to learn. Secondly, it is just wasting time for some college students who have no interest in some courses. If studentsdon’t interest ina class, it will beno use to demanda classattendance w. What’s more, we are not senior high school’s students anymore, who have known their ownchoice. The last but not the least, the absent of classes may not only put the blame on students but teachers who lack attraction and courses which are useless. If a professor teaches well, there will be more students even without a class attendance.

Should Class Attendance Be Required?
Directions: For this part you are allowed thirty minutes to write a composition on the topic Should Class Attendance Be Required? You should write no less than 200 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below: 1.许多大学都实行上课出勤点名制
2.你认为有无必要实行这种制度
3.为什么
Nowadays, many universities and colleges carry out the system of class attendance. In my point of view, it is not necessary. University is a place free and open. Attend college is not only to study but also to become a person who has wide-sights and open minds. If we like the lesson, we can attend it. On the contrary, we can choose to go or not. If so, we will have much more time to study lessons that we like. Due to too much useless rules, Chinese students nearly become the same person and lack of innovation. Secondly, someone does n’t wan na learn, it is also useless even though he attend class—just a waste of time. Sometimes, he/she may have an influence on teachers’mood and disturb other students. What’s more, few students request his classmates to response his name or even make a lie. Those actions are bad habbits, it is easy to make a bad effection. In conclusion, it is not necessary to put class attendance into force.
Describe a person you like
When I see this title, I hardly know who the right person is that I will describe, because I like so many people.
The person I like most is one of my best friends— Sea, who is studying at Sichuan University. In my point of view, dynamism, energy, aggressiveness and forward movement are the main characteristic that he does have. His goodness is shown below: He has no bad likings, studies diligently, respects his parents and teachers, and gets along well with his classmates. He treats those truely who are true to him and never speaks ill of others nor boasts of himself. He has a great sense of humour so that he often gives us surprises. In a word, he has all the good characters better than mine. I always regard him as a model. Without him, I even feel it is a great loss.。
