江苏省南京师范大学附属实验学校2024-2025学年高二上学期9月月考英语试卷一、阅读理解Risks at Your TableSome of the “everyday foods” we eat hide some unhealthy features, which most people ignore. We take a look at some of the health risks being served to you!Energy DrinksYou’re tired and you still have to face a physical or mental stress, so what a better friend than an energy drink to overcome the effort? However, most energy drinks contain chemicals that are harmful if taken in quantities, with effects that are similar to the ones from several other illegal drugs, smoking and alcohol consumption.White BreadWhite bread is poorer in fiber and protein than other bread alternatives. Fiber helps our body to understand when it has eaten enough. The sense of fullness is important if we don’t want an extra-consumption of calories.Breakfast CerealsBreakfast cereals(麦片) fill out lots of shelves in every supermarket you get inside. They’re one of the favorite foods for our first meal of the day, because they’re simply delicious. What many people are not aware of is that these products are loaded with GM(转基因) organisms which affect our immune system. If you really can’t separate yourselves from breakfast cereals, maybe you could start considering some organic breakfast cereal alternatives.Fat-Free FoodsFat-free foods may look like the gold mine for a perfectly balanced and satisfying diet, but the reality is widely different. Fats are essential for many body functions and for its healthy development. A fat-cut is not advisable, especially when your workouts are regular. Plus, fat-free foods are usually high in processed sugar.1.Which is particularly improper for a man going to the gym regularly?A.Energy drinks.B.White bread.C.Breakfast cereals.D.Fat-free foods.2.What do the four foods have in common?A.They are delicious and healthy.B.They contain harmful chemicals.C.They hide some harmful features.D.They lack some essential nutrients.3.In which section of a website can you probably find this passage?A.Health.B.Education.C.Economy.D.Science.20-year-old Edgar McGregor decided to visit his local park, Eaton Canyon, day in and day out to pick up as much litter as he could fit in two buckets (提桶). Now, over 589 days and 19,000 Twitter followers later, he is more passionate (热爱的) than ever about his task to save the planet!Edgar found out that Los Angeles would be the host of the 2028 Summer Olympic Games. Knowing the state of the national forest at the time, he feared that its grounds that were full of litter would make the city a “global embarrassment,” so he decided to make cleaning it up his new passion project.As time went on, he began documenting his progress on Twitter. Soon, he began encouraging others to start park cleanup projects of their own.As part of southern California’s Angeles National Forest, Eaton Canyon can see quite a bit of daily foot traffic. On one particularly busy day, Edgar spent five hours picking up litter and came away with over 1,000 pounds of rubbish. Rain or shine, Edgar headed over to carry out his task. He worked through conditions like snowstorms, a record heat wave, and even a forest fire on the opposite side of the park.The more he did, the more treasures he discovered. In addition to a lot of old iPhones and cans, Edgar collected enough recyclables to earn around 30 dollars every few weeks, which he would donate to nonprofits.Recently, Edgar began noticing that the top-littered areas in his park were becoming few and far between. At one point, he spent four hours moving around the park and only returned with two buckets. Edgar plans to return to Eaton Canyon two or three times a week to keep up with the maintenance, but he is excited to start expanding his reach to new locations. Though he realizes this doesn’t mean his journey is complete, he is excited to have already achieved so much! 4.Why is the 2028 Summer Olympic Games mentioned?A.To describe what made Edgar famous.B.To explain why Edgar loved Los Angeles.C.To introduce what inspired Edgar to start his project.D.To discuss why Edgar started exploring the national forest.5.Which of the following can best describe Edgar?A.Determined and caring.B.Creative and influential.C.Talented and productive.D.Adventurous and sociable.6.What is Edgar’s next plan?A.Encouraging others to join in his cleanup.B.Making a journey to clean Eaton Canyon.C.Cleaning up other parts of the national forest.D.Returning to the parks he has already cleaned.7.What is the text mainly about?A.A hero for the environment.B.A way of dealing with litter.C.A local development project.D.A huge personal achievement.Friends are important in our lives, but we sometimes have to separate from our friends. “A Farewell Song” is about saying goodbye to a friend. It is a famous poem by Wang Wei, a great poet, who lived in Tang Dynasty. He is good at writing poems and drawing. When talking about Wang Wei, people often say there are pictures in his poems and there are poems in his pictures.His poems are full of beauty and imagination.“No dust is raised on the road wet with morning rain”, “The willows by the hotel look so fresh and green”, a picture of silence and peace gets into our eyes. After a morning rain in spring, the road, the willows (柳树) and the hotel are completely different. The hotel looks green. The willows look fresh. Everything is nice, gentle and silent. Willow branches are considered as a typical symbol of farewell in China. In ancient times, Chinese people often used them as gifts when they said goodbye to their friends.“I invite you to drink a cup of wine again” is the poet’s warm and real way of not wanting to say goodbye to his friend. Having another drink together is like a symbol of their goodbye. Lastly, “West of the sunny pass no more friends will be seen” shows the feeling of being alone and missing someone. It also shows his sincere love and care for his friend.“A Farewell Song” creates a feeling of quiet sadness. It mixes beautiful pictures and human feelings to deeply express the common experience of saying goodbye.8.When did Wang Wei’s friend leave in the poem?A.In spring.B.In summer.C.In autumn.D.In winter. 9.What is considered as a typical symbol of farewell in China?A.A morning rain.B.A handkerchief.C.A willow branch.D.A red bean. 10.Which of the following rhymes are RIGHT for this poem?A.aa-bb.B.ab-ab.C.ab-cd.D.ad-bc.11.What does Wang Wei want to show in this poem?A.To show his excitement after seeing his old friend.B.To show his joy before separating from his friend.C.To show a feeling of quiet sadness before farewell.D.To show his anger before farewell.When we look at a lovely baby, a puppy or a really cute kitten many of us want to squeeze it. Why is that?According to a study published in the journal Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, it’s a typical experience of “cute aggression”. The experience results from the fight between the brain’s “emotion system”, which impels (驱使) people to squeeze cute things, and its “reward system”which deals with feelings of “wanting”.In the study, 54 participants between the ages of 18 and 40 were presented with four groups of photos. Two of the groups of photos were of cute human babies and animals and the other two were of less adorable adult humans and animals. As the participants looked at the photos, there searchers watched their brain activities.According to the researchers, the participants reward systems were found to be active as they looked at the cute babies, and they seemed to be overwhelmed(征服的). By contrast, the reward systems of the people looking at the less cute adults were found to be inactive, and they seemed to be less impelled by their reward systems.This suggests that cute things activate their emotion systems in such a way that people are overwhelmed by the experience of cuteness. But reward systems work against these emotions by creating the desire to protect cute things.As Katherine Stavropoulos, the lead researcher of this study at the University of California in the US told Science Alert, “The cute aggression is the brain’s way of ‘bringing us back down’ by balancing our feelings of being overwhelmed.”Stavropoulos compared this process of balancing to an evolutionary adaptation. Such an adaptation may have taken place to ensure that people are able to continue taking care of creatures they consider particularly cute.So, although cute babies and adorable animals may look completely helpless, their vulnerable( 易受伤害的) appearance may in fact help them to survive.12.According to the text, “cute aggression” refers to .A.the emotion of wanting to protect cute thingsB.the task of emotion system and reward systemC.the adaptation of consistently taking care of cute creaturesD.the behavior of squeezing a cute baby or animal when seeing it13.In nature, “cute aggression” is caused by .A.the need of the brain to balance all feelingsB.the photos of cute human babies and animalsC.the vulnerable appearance of babies or animalsD.the conflict between emotion system and reward system14.Which of the following statements about the study is TRUE?A.Facial expressions of the participants were observed.B.Katherine Stavropoulos conducted this study on her own.C.Cute babies and animals affected brain activities of all the participants.D.The participants were divided into two groups in order to make comparison.15.What is the author's purpose in writing this text?A.To persuade readers to protect cute animals.B.To stress the significance of cute aggression.C.To present research findings on cute aggression.D.To share an interesting phenomenon with readersLetting Go of What Holds You BackThe truth is, we all only have a limited amount of time and energy each day. 16 Does that sound familiar? We’ve all been there — feeling overwhelmed, as if carrying a heavy load on our backs. Whether it’s physical stuff in your living space or metaphorical (比喻的) trash in life, it’s time for a spring cleaning.17 To do one thing well, you must have the concentration and go all out. Once Warren Buffet famously said,“ Really successful people say no to almost everything.” He accumulated wealth by focusing laser-like on one thing — investing, and excelled in it by declining every other shiny distraction that crossed his path.Reflecting on our life, we’ve unconsciously collected mental and emotional “junk”. Maybe it’s excessive TV watching, continuous gaming, tiring friendships, aimless social media consumption. Honestly, I’ll bet we could all name at least one TV show we’ve been absorbed in out of boredom instead of doing something productive. So the first step is taking stock of exactly what’s weighing you down each day. Then it’s time to start de-junking, but go slow. 18 Try dumping one thing per week so it’s manageable.Another sneaky trick is to replace bad habits with good alternatives, like switching from endless browsing on social media to learning a new skill instead. 19Once the unnecessary weight is lifted off, you will have so much extra mental space and energy. 20 So say bye-bye to all the things holding you back and watch your successskyrocket as a result. Your future self will thank you.A.Detail the time you spend on activities each week.B.As a saying goes, jack (千斤顶) of all trades, master of none.C.Throwing everything out at once will just leave you stressed out.D.Or put away your phone while working, so you’ re not distracted.E.When it comes to letting go of trouble causers, you have many alternatives.F.Suddenly barriers seem not so tough when you’ re not battling ten things at once.G.If we shoulder more than we can, we’ll end up exhausted and going nowhere.二、完形填空When Mike visited Bali, he first took note of street vendors (摊贩). It was evident that they were 21 food. When Mike asked if he could still have food without money on hand, they showed him 22 , especially one woman named Lily.In addition to some rice, Lily gave him a plate of meat without 23 . It is a portal that opens up vast worlds of knowledge, emotions, and perspectives. In the bustling city of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, students in their second year of high school are embarking on a journey through literature that will not only enrich their academic lives but also shape their personalities and broaden their horizons.The autumn semester brings with it a fresh batch of books, each carrying its own story and lessons. From the classic tales of Shakespeare that teach us about the complexities of human nature, to the modern novels that reflect the struggles and triumphs of contemporary society, students delve into these pages with eager anticipation.In Mrs. Li’s English class, the focus is not just on memorizing grammar rules or analyzing sentence structures. It’s about engaging with the text, understanding the characters’ motivations, and empathizing with their experiences. The classroom buzzes with discussions as students share their interpretations and insights, fostering a love for literature that transcends the boundaries of language learning.This semester’s English curriculum includes a diverse range of genres and themes, designed to challenge and inspire students. From historical fiction that transports them to different eras, to science fiction that sparks their imagination about the future, each book is a treasure trove of ideas andemotions.Third Question: Reading ComprehensionRead the following excerpt from one of the books being studied in Mrs. Li’s class and answer the questions that follow.Excerpt:“As the sun set over the rolling hills, the protagonist, Emma, stood at the edge of the cliff, her heart heavy with uncertainty. She had always been the one to make decisions with ease, but now, faced with a choice that would change the course of her life, she found herself paralyzed with fear. The sea below her, vast and unpredictable, mirrored her inner turmoil. Should she stay and fight for what she believed in, or should she sail away into the unknown, hoping for a better future?”1.What emotion is Emma experiencing in the excerpt? Provide evidence from the textto support your answer.Answer: Emma is experiencing uncertainty and fear. Evidence: “her heart heavy with uncertainty” and “she found herself paralyzed with fear.”2.What metaphor is used in the passage to describe Emma’s state of mind? Explain itssignificance.Answer: The sea is used as a metaphor for Emma’s inner turmoil. Its vastness and unpredictability reflect the overwhelming nature of the choices she faces and her inability to see a clear path forward.3.How does the setting (the sunset over the rolling hills and the sea below) contributeto the mood of the scene?Answer: The setting creates a sense of grandeur and isolation, enhancing the sense of drama and emotional intensity in the scene. The sunset adds a touch of melancholy, reflecting Emma’s heavy heart, while the sea below symbolizes the vastness of the challenges she faces.4.Based on the excerpt, speculate on Emma’s eventual decision and provide a briefrationale for your prediction.Answer: It is difficult to predict Emma’s decision definitively without further context, but given her state of mind and the imagery used, it is possible that she may choose to face her fears and stay to fight for what she believes in. Unfortunately, It is also a place where a lot of natural resources start to fall behind. Take a look around next time you’re at work. See how many lights are left on when people leave. See how much paper is being wasted. How much electricity is being used to run computers that are left on. Look at how much water is being wasted in the rest-rooms. And how much solid waste is being thrown out in the rubbish cans. We bet it’s a lot.Now, here are some simple ways you can produce less waste at work. When you are at the copier, only make the copies you need. Use both sides of the paper when writing something less important. Turn off your lights when you leave. Use a lower watt bulb in your lamp. Drink your coffee or tea out of your mugs instead of single-use cups. Set up a recycling box for cans and one for bottles. And when you’re in the bathroom brushing your teeth or washing your face, don’t let the tap run. Remember, if we use fewer resources today, we’ll save more for tomorrow.36. These days are set aside to show love and respect for parents. They raise their children and educate them to be responsible(有责任感的) citizens. They give love and care. These two days make us think about the changing roles of mothers and fathers. More mothers now work outside the home. More fathers must help with child care.These two special days are celebrated in many different ways. On Mother’s Day people wear carnations. A red one symbolizes a living mother. A white one shows that the mother is dead. Many people attend religious services to honor parents. It is also a day when people whose parents are dead visit the cemetery(墓地).On these days families get together at home, as well as in restaurants. They often have outdoor barbecues for Father’s Day. These are days of fun and good feelings and memories.Another tradition is to give cards and gifts. Children make them in school. Many people make their own presents. These are valued more than the ones bought in stores. It is not the value of the gift that is important, but it is “the thought that counts”. Greeting card stores, florists, candy makers, bakeries, telephone companies, and other stores do a lot of business during these holidays.41.Which of the following is NOT a reason for children to show love and respect for parents?A. Parents bring up children.B. Parents give love and care to children.C. Parents educate children to be good persons.D. Parents pass away before children grow up.42.What do you think “florists” do?A. They sell flowers.B. They make and sell bread.C. They offer enough room for having family parties.D. Th ey sell special gifts for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.43.Which do you think is right about “carnation”?A. It has only two kinds of colors.B. It refers to the special clothes people wear on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.C. It’s a kind of flower showin g love and best wishes.D. People can wear carnations only on the second Sunday in May.44. What do you know from the passage?A. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are both in May.B. Fewer women worked outside the home in the past.C. Not all the children respect their parentsD. Fathers are not as important as mothers at home.45. On Mother’s Day and Father’s Day,.A. people usually have family partiesB. everyone goes to visit the cemeteryC. children always go to parents’ homeD. hand-made cards are the most valuable gifts第四节任务型阅读(每空2分,共20分)If you’re at the beginner level, there are two options: reading a children’s book or reading a book that you’ve read in Chinese translation. This will help you get over any unfamiliar words or phrases, since you’re already familiar with the story. If you’re at the intermediate level, popular books like pop fiction, mysteries and thrillers are good options, as they’ll be guaranteed page turners and that will increase the possibility of your getting all the way through the book. For advanced readers, science fiction, classic works of literature or contemporary prize winners (Booker, Nobel, Pulitzer)are good options.The most important thing is to pick a book that you’re really interested in. When I pick up a new book in Chinese, the first few chapters are always really hard to get through, as I have to get accustomed to the way the individual author uses the language. But after the first few chapters, things get a lot easier, especially if I get involved in the story. Some of my favorite Chinese-language eye candy are books that are series like Brothers by Yu Hua or The Dancer by Hai Yan. I like them because there’s always a lot of action and story development to keep me involved, which helps me make it through those first few chapters.Another great way to keep yourself motivated over the holiday is to find a friend who’s interested in reading the same book. You can make goals that you both want to achieve and discuss plot lines or vocabulary issues with each other by SMS or e-mail. I’m currently doing that with my friend Laura. We’ve been doing this since we were classmates i n Chinese at college. Some quick recommendations: Harry Potter, start with the first book and go on from there; the Narnia series; anything by US writer Michael Crichton or British writer Agatha Christie; and if you like horror, US writer Stephen King is always unusual and fun. But really you should just find a topic or author that you’re interested in, and the rest will go from there. Happy reading!-from 21st Century(January 21, 2009)Title Enjoy English language literature on vacationTheme Find a good book to read on your journey to a (1) ___________ place.(2) ____________ of proper books ●Beginners may pick a children’s book or a book whose story is (3) ____________ to them.●Poplar books might make it (4) ____________for intermediate-level readers to read them from cover to cover.●Science fiction, classic works of literature or contemporary prize winners may be (5) _____________ for advanced readers.Ways to keep up your (6) ____________ for reading ●Choose a book that is interesting enough to (7) ____________ you in the story and help get through some difficult chapters .●Read along with a friend a book you both feel interested in and(8) _____________views on plot lines or vocabulary to achieve your common goals.Books (9) ________ ●Harry Potter series●Narnia series●Works by Michael Crichton●Works by Agatha Christie●(10) _____________ fiction by Stephen King参考答案一,。

2023-2024学年江苏省南京市高二下学期期中英语试卷

2023-2024学年江苏省南京市高二下学期期中英语试卷From a multi-day hike following the routes of a Japanese poet, to a classic climb in the Argentinian Lake District, there are thousands of incredible trails (小路) that allow us to get up close to nature.Appalachian Trail, United StatesExtending for 2,200 miles, the Appalachian Trail is listed as the longest hiking-only footpath in the world. It runs from Springier Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine, passing through some of the most remote country in the United States. That means it’s a hard task, either for those with endless vacation allowance, or walkers looking to do a small piece of a classic route.The Basho Wayfarer, JapanThis self-guided trip follows a route taken by the poet Matsuo Basho over 300 years ago. The six-day hike starts in Sendai and works its way through the northern Tohoku region, passing through the UNESCO World Heritage (遗产)Site of Hiraizumi and along the ancient Dewa Kaido path. With its beech and cherry forests, it finishes at the temple of Yamadera.Mount Toubkal, MoroccoThe path upwards rises from the village of Imlil, passing over a dry river bed before rising sharply through a temple and on towards a large mountain cottage. After overnight here, hikers set off up the snowfield to the peak, where the Atlas Mountains open out and the views are breathtaking. A local guide and muleteers for carrying luggage are a must.The Dingle Way, IrelandIt is a ring-like path th at offers the best way to get under the skin of wild County Kerry in Ireland’s south west. Starting in the town of Tralee, the clockwise path follows narrow roads, taking in the wide sweep of sand at Inch Strand, passing along the clifftops outside Dingle town and heading around the edge of Mount Brardon, the highest peak on the Dingle Peninsula.1. What do we know about the Basho Wayfarer?A.It offers no guide service. B.It was built by a poet.C.It ends in the northern Tohoku region. D.It is on the world heritage list.2. Where can hikers enjoy a good view of snow?A.Appalachian Trail. B.The Basho Wayfarer.C.Mount Toubkal. D.The Dingle Way.3. What is special about the Dingle Way?A.It follows a circle path. B.It is the longest in the world.C.It finishes at Mount Brandon. D.It reaches the highest peak in Ireland.Anthony Doerr’s new bestseller, All the Light We Cannot See, holds special appeal for me. That’s how I would describe it. From the poetic language, to the realization of what the tile actually means: that underneath the surface of history, there is light that has not been seen, and stories that have gone untold.I’m going to be honest-love for this book didn’t hit me straight away. In fact, my first attempt to read it last month ended with me putting it aside and going to find something easier, lighter and less descriptive to read. But this book is built on beautiful imagery. Both in the literal sense-the physical world of 1940s Paris and Germany, and the metaphorical (隐喻性的)sense-scientific and philosophical references to light, to seeing and not seeing, and the differences between the two. It’s a beautiful work of genius, but it does get a little complicated at times.However, when we get into the meat of this World War II novel, it’s also an upsetting story of a childhood torn apart by war. It’s about Parisian Marie Laure who has been blind since she was six, and a German orphan called Werner who finds himself at the center of the Hitler Youth. Both of their stories are told with sensitivity and sympathy, each one forced down a path by their personal circumstances and by that destructive monster-war.I think this is the kind of book you will never appreciate if you stop too soon-I learned that lesson. From the first to last page, there is a theme of invisible lines running parallel (平行的)to one another and sometimes, just sometimes, crossing in the strangest way. These two lives we are introduced to seem to be worlds apart, and yet they come together and influence one another. It was this, more than the predictably awful tale of war, that made me feel quite emotional.4. What does the writer think of the book?A.Light and easy to read.B.Rich in philosophical ideas.C.Fascinating but too descriptive.D.Too complicated for its theme.5. What can we learn about Marie Laure and Werner?A.The war leads to their sensitivity.B.They know each other at an early age.C.The Hitler Youth pushes them to grow.D.They both have a miserable childhood.6. What particularly stirred the writer’s emot ions?A.The book’s dramatic ending.B.The book’s beautiful imagery.C.The characters’ interconnected destiny.D.The suffering brought by World War II.7. What is the purpose of this text?A.To share the writer’s feelings of a book.B.To recommend a delightful bestseller.C.To tell readers a heartbreaking story.D.To analyze the structure of a book.Did you know that the custom of turning our clocks an hour ahead during the year first originated in World War I? By making the days “longer” , the goal was for households to conserve electricity and other forms of energy like fuel. Recently, the US Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act. The bill must also go through the House of Representatives before it can be signed by the President. If passed, Daylight SavingTime(DST) could become the permanent system of the time.Although the specific dates of the time change differ, many countries around the world observe a biannual system of the time. From mid-March to November in the US, most states practice DST by turning the time forward by an hour from the Standard Time(ST), the local time observed in an area.Though the original purpose of DST was to encourage the conservation of energy, multiple studies suggest that the time shift has not made a significant impact on saving energy costs. While less money is spent on electricity, costs are still likely to rise with the usage of devices such as air conditioners and computers. Research conducted by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine has shown that DST time changes lead to a greater risk of car crashes.According to researchers, ST is much more closely related to the body’s circadian rhythm(昼夜节律) which regulates our organs as well as our sleep-wake cycle. By permanently living in DST, children would have to get up and be in school long before the sun rises—which could be 9 am in Seattle and other western states!Proponents argue that because DST maximizes daylight, it encourages safety by lowering crime rates and reducing seasonal depression. DST provides more waking time to enjoy with families and friends, or even to get more work done.The bill is certainly a hot topic of discussion, but one thing is for sure: everyone is in favor of getting rid of the biannual time switch.8. What do we know about DST according to researchers?A.It can make schools start late.B.It helps improve people’s sleeping quality.C.It increases the possibility of traffic accidents.D.It can reduce the usage of electronic devices.9. What does the underlined word “proponents” in Paragraph 5 refer to?A.People who are in favor of DST.B.People who are efficient in workingC.People who have seasonal depression.D.People who enjoy the company of friends.10. What is the author’s attitude towards the biannual time switch?A.Positive. B.Neutral.C.Unclear. D.Negative.11. What is the best title for the text?A.The influence of ST B.The significance of STC.The debate about DST D.The histroy of DSTAt its annual general assembly in Vienna last month, the European Geosciences Union (EGU) did something unusual. The chair of its awards committee, Thomas Blunier, presented a breakdown, by gender, of prize nominees (被提名者) and nominators (提名者) since 2014. The data were revealing. Although women make up 37% of the society’s members, they made just 20% of nominations suggesting that women are less likely to nominate than men. The data also showed that people tend to favour their own gender when making nominations-with men most likely to nominate other men.This is clearly a problem, but awareness of the situation opens the door to fixing it. Although women are still under-represented in EGU nominations, their share of awards is now approaching their representation among EGU members, thanks to corrective measures taken by the organization? s awards committee. The EGU is distinct from most other scientific societies that do not make nomination data public, though it is necessary for the fairness among prizewinners.Some other efforts are under way to make prizes fairer. In mathematics, for example, the International Mathematical Union has introduced guidelines to make nominators and award-committee members aware of unconscious bias. Many prize nomination forms now include statements encouraging nominators to consider diversity. The committees that award Nobel prizes have told Nature that they are attempting to increase diversity in nominees and that the proportion of women nominated is rising.Prize-givers need to widen their nomination pools. In 2019, Nature suggested that award organizers might cast their nets wider when seeking nominations by approaching networks that include academies of science in low and middle-income countries. This is still not happening on the scale that it needs to.Sadly, these measures will not make science prizes match global diversity, at least not straight away. Many prizes are based on work carried out decades ago, when the barriers to entering science were even higher than they are today for people from under-represented groups and countries. At the very least, professional societies must ensure that their nomination pools are representatives of their communities. Greater transparency and a wider, more diverse pool of nominees increase the chance of awards rewarding excellence, rather than enlarging existing networks of fame.12. What is the purpose of showing the data from the EGU?A.To show the gender balance among its members.B.To encourage females to nominate other females.C.To reflect that women have been ignored in awards.D.To reveal the significant impact from gender awareness.13. What efforts have been made to promote the fairness among the prizewinners?A.Publicizing the nomination data.B.Widening the application pools by nominees.C.Introducing guidelines on increasing diversity.D.Casting the nets wider when seeking nominations.14. What does the author hold in the last paragraph?A.Existing nomination pools are not transparent.B.Professional societies must make a difference.C.The barriers to entering science will not be higher.D.Science has kept up with the global trend of diversity.15. Which of the following might be the best title for this text?A.European Geosciences Union: An Nontraditional ModelB.Diversity in Science Prizes: Why is Progress So Slow?C.Progress in Science: Nomination Shows Justice for AllD.The Way to Gender Diversity: Difficult, Delicate but DestinedIt’s always exciting to begin a new job. It keeps what it needs more immediately in our short-term memory, and it mixes together information we may need to use in the future to store in our long-term memory. For the information that’s not needed, our brain acts like a garbage management, recycling, and deleting it.* 19Organizations often have digital knowledge management systems to store and take important information. You can do the same to reduce brain burden. I recommend creating a Word or Google document in which you write down information that your brain doesn’t need to remember or store.* Reduce task-switchingMulti-tasking isn’t good for you physically or mentally and is worse for your productivity and cognition (认知). 20 . You can go for longer than that, but be sure to take a break. Focused activity is less taxing than multitasking, but you can’t keep working endlessly.My daughter loved dancing until she didn’t love it.

当反应达平衡时,可能存在的数据是A.SO2为0.25mol/L B.SO2为0.4mol/L,O2为0.2mol/LC.SO2、SO3均为0.15mol/L D.SO3为0.4mol/L2.

3.在一定温度下,反应A2(g)+B2(g)2AB(g)达到平衡的标志是(N A代表阿伏加德罗常数) A.单位时间生成N A的A2同时生成N A的ABB.容器内的总压不随时间变化C.单位时间生成2N A的AB同时生成N A的B2D.单位时间生成N A的A2同时生成N A的B24.下列热化学方程式正确的是(注:△H的数值均正确)A.C2H5OH(l)+3O2(g)==2CO2(g) +3H2O(g);△H= —1367.0 kJ/mol(燃烧热)B.NaOH(aq) +CH3COOH(aq)==CH3COONa(aq)+H2O(l);△H=—57.3kJ/mol(中和热)C.S(s) + O2(g) == SO2(g);△H= —269.8kJ/mol(反应热)D.2NO2==O2+2NO;△H= +116.2kJ/mol(反应热)5.在一定条件下,可逆反应N2(g)+3H2(g) 2NH3(g);△H<0.达到平衡,当单独改变下列条件后,有关叙述错误的是A.加催化剂v(正)v(逆)都发生变化,而且变化的倍数相等B.加压v(正)v(逆)都增大,且v(正)增大的倍数大于v(逆)增大的倍数C.降温,v(正)v(逆)都减小,且v(正)减小的倍数小于v(逆)减小的倍数D.加入氩气,v(正)v(逆)都增大且v(正)增大的倍数大于v(逆)增大的倍数6.在25℃时,密闭容器中X、Y、Z三种气体的初始浓度和平衡浓度如下表:物质X Y Z 初始浓度/mol·L -10.1 0.2 0 平衡浓度/mol·L -10.05 0.05 0.1 下列说法错误..的是: A .反应达到平衡时,X 的转化率为50%B .反应可表示为X+3Y 2Z ,其平衡常数为1600C .增大压强使平衡向生成Z 的方向移动,平衡常数增大D .改变温度可以改变此反应的平衡常数7.已知:K sp (AgCl)=1.8×10—10,K sp (AgI)=1.5×10—16 ,K sp (Ag 2CrO 4)=2.0×10—12,则下列难溶盐的饱和溶液中,Ag +浓度大小顺序正确的是A .AgCl>AgI> Ag 2CrO 4B .AgCl> Ag 2CrO 4>AgIC .Ag 2CrO 4>AgCl>AgID .Ag 2CrO 4>AgI>AgCl8.根据右表提供的数据,判断在等浓度的NaClO 、NaHCO 3混合溶液中,各种离子浓度关系正确的是A .c (HCO 3-)>c (ClO -)>c (OH -)B .c (ClO -)>c (HCO 3-)>c (H +)C .c (HClO)+c (ClO -)=c (HCO 3-)+c (H 2CO 3-)D .c (Na +)+c (H +)=c (HCO 3-)+c (ClO -)+c (OH -)9. 若溶液中由水电离的c (OH -)=1×10-14mol/L ,则在此溶液中一定不能大量共存的离子组是A. Al 3+ Na + NO 3- Cl -B. K + Na + Cl - NO 3-C. K + Na + SO 32- NO 3-D. K + NH 4+ SO 42- HCO 3-10. 设N A 为阿伏加德罗常数的值,下列说法正确的是A .1L 1mol/L 醋酸溶液中含有的离子总数为2N AB .25℃时,pH =13的Ba(OH)2溶液中含有的OH -数目为0.1N AC .100mL 1mol∙L -1的Na 2CO 3溶液中CO 32-、HCO 3-和H 2CO 3总数为0.1N AD .0.1L 3mol·L -1的FeCl 3溶液中含有的Fe 3+数目为0.3 N A11.肼(N 2H 4)—空气燃料电池是一种环保型碱性燃料电池,电解质溶液是20%~30%的KOH溶液。

It was my fault he got into trouble with the hall monitor! I’m so stupid!” My friend burst out laughing, and then made her “Olympic” comment. After a brief period of reflection I had to admit that she was right. I did put myself down an awful lot. Why, just during the previous day I had called myself “a slob” for having some papers spread out on my desk, “ugly” when I left the house without makeup and “an idiot” when I left the house for an emergency substitute job without my emergency lesson plan. In a more reflective tone, Annabel said, “I once took a workshop at church where the woman incharge had us list all the mean things we say about ourselves.” “How many did you have on your list?”I asked. “Fifteen,” she confessed. “But then the teacher said, ‘Now turn to the person next to you and say all the items on your list as if you were speaking to that person!’ ” My jaw dropped,“What did you do?” “Nothing. Nobody did. We all just sat there, until I said, ‘I could never say these things to anyone else!’ ” “And our teacher replied, ‘Well, if you can’t say them to anyone else, then don’t ever say them to yourself!’ ” My friend had a point. I would never insult a child of God---and I’m God’s child, too! God, today let me be as kind to myself as I would be to another of Your children. 1. This has been the first obvious increase since 2001. American schools last fall had 583,000 foreign students. The record is 586,000. That was set in 2002 after many years of gains. But after that the numbers fell. The terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001 led to more visa (签证) requirements. Now stronger efforts are being made to get more foreign students to study in the United States. China remained in second place in front of South Korea but behind India, which sent almost 84,000 students last fall. The number of Japanese fell sharply by nine percent, although it remained in fourth place. There were three percent drops from Indonesia and Kenya, the only African country in the top twenty last year. But there were obvious increases from Saudi Arabia, Nepal and Vietnam. The number of Saudi students more than doubled, rising to nearly eight thousand. For a sixth year, the University of Southern California in Los Angeles had the most foreign students. Columbia University in New York was second. Other schools in the top five were New York University, the University of Illinois and Purdue University. Unlike American students in other countries, who often choose history and language study, the leading area of study in the USA was business and management. Second was engineering. The new report also says more than 220,000 Americans studied in other countries. That was during the2005-2006 school year. It was a record number, and an increase of eight and a half percent from the year before. But only five percent of them stayed for a full year. 1.
