《[读胡适日记札记（之三）] 胡适日记全集在线阅读》摘要：胡适1922年5月30日去见过一次宣统，十一时，在蔡宅开会，到者：梁漱溟、李守常、孟和、孟馀、汤尔和、徐伯轩(未约他，偶相值)、经农等，他们都赞成了，都列名做提议人，洋人向这条路上走去胡适见宣统胡适1922年5月30日去见过一次宣统。

上星期他的先生陈宝琛病重，他要去看他，宫中人劝阻他，他不听，竟雇汽车出去看他一次，这也是一例。
前次庄士敦说起宣统曾读我的《尝试集》，故我送庄士敦一部《文存》时，也送了宣统一部。
这一次他要见我，完全不同人商量，庄士敦也不知道，也可见他自行其意了。
庄士敦是很稳健的人，他教授宣统，成绩颇好；他颇能在暗中护持他，故宣统也很感激他。
宫中人很忌庄士敦，故此次他想辞职，但宣统坚不肯放他走。
5月30日：今天因与宣统帝约了去见他，故未上课。
十二时前，他派了一个太监，来我家接我。
我们到了神武门前下车，先在门外一所护兵督察处小坐，他们通电话给里面，说某人到了。
我在客室里坐时，见墙上挂着一幅南海招子庸的画竹揭本。
此画极好，有一诗云：写竹应师竹。
何须似古人? 心眼手如一，下笔自通神。
道光辛丑又三月，南海招子庸作于潍阳官舍。
招子庸即是用广州土话作《粤讴》的大诗人；此诗虽是论画，亦可见其人，可见其诗。
周珏良先生的《数百年来的中英文化交流》
周珏良先生的《数百年来的中英文化交流》■叶向阳周珏良先生（1916 1992）的长篇论文《数百年来的中英文化交流》先发表于周一良主编的《中外文化交流史》（河南人民出版社，1987），后编入《周珏良文集》（外语教学与研究出版社，1994）。
从“文集”的目录我们可以初步看出，周先生在比较文学研究上主要做了两方面工作：一方面是力图通过中西文论和文本的相互阐释来建立“普遍诗学”，另一方面是比较文学的经典课题，即国际文化交流研究。
这方面选文较少，除了翻译的思考和试笔外，只有本文试图专门讨论的《数百年来的中英文化交流》。
学术史：周先生写作本文之前在先生之前，关于此课题已有了一些研究。
有些是研究“中国与欧洲”或“欧洲文学的中国形象”，兼涉中英文化关系。
如利奇温著《18世纪中国与欧洲文化的接触》（1925），赫德逊著《欧洲与中国》（1931），马士著《中华帝国对外关系史》（1910 1918），拉克著《亚洲在欧洲形成的过程中》（1965 1993），道生著《中国变色龙》（1967）等。
另一些是对中英关系的专门研究，可以粗略地分为两类。
一类主要关于中英贸易与外交，早期的文化交流往往离不开以上两个媒介。
这方面的研究著作较多，其中最著名的是马士编著《东印度公司对华贸易纪事（1635 1834）》（1926 1929）；另一类关注中英文化关系，这也正是先生的文章所考察的内容。
虽然在先生撰文之前这方面专著笔者见到的仅有阿普尔顿的《契丹时代：17、18世纪英国的中国热》（1951），但论文已有不少，多为20世纪三、四十年代中国学者在英美留学时的学位论文。
这些论文后来发表的分别有陈受颐的《丹尼尔·笛福：中国的严厉批评者》（1935）、《约翰·韦伯：早期欧洲汉学史上被遗忘的一页》（1935 1936）、《中国园林在18世纪的英国》（1936）、《中国孤儿：一出元剧，对18世纪欧洲戏剧的影响》（1936）、《托马斯·帕西及其中国研究》（1936 1937）和《奥立佛·哥德斯密及其〈中国书信〉》（1939），范存忠（1903 1987）的《约翰逊博士与中国文化》（1945）、《威廉·琼斯爵士的中国研究》（1946）、《中国寓言与反沃尔波尔的新闻报道》（1949）和《中国文化在英国影响的初始》（1982），钱锺书的《17世纪英国文学里的中国》（1940）和《18世纪英国文学里的中国》（分两部分，1941），还有方重的《18世纪的英国文学与中国》（1931）。

He has been my dentist for as long as I can remember. I really wanted to write about how amazing he is because I'm so grateful to have him taking care of my teeth.The very first time I went to see Dr. Milton, I was just a tiny little kid - probably around 3 years old. I remember being really scared because I had never been to the dentist before. My mom tried to prepare me by saying the dentist is a nice person who helps keep our teeth healthy and strong. But I was still super nervous!When we got to the dentist office, we had to wait a little while in the waiting room. There were toys and books to keep kids busy, which was pretty cool. Finally, it was my turn to go back. The dental assistant called my name and I shakily followed her down the hallway to one of the rooms.That's when I met Dr. Milton for the very first time. He was an older man with grey hair, glasses, and a big smile on his face. Right away he could tell I was scared, so he knelt down to be atmy level and said in a gentle voice "Hi there Lily, I'm Dr. Milton. There's no need to be afraid, I'm just going to check your teeth today." Just hearing him talk to me so nicely helped put me at ease a little bit.During that first appointment, Dr. Milton was extremely patient with me. He let me pick out a super cool Paw Patrol toothbrush and some yummy bubblegum flavored toothpaste to use. Instead, he calmly talks us through each step so we know exactly what's happening. If we get overwhelmed, he simply stops and gives us a break. The hygienists and assistants are awesome too - they're all like part of one big happy dentist family.One of my favorite things about Dr. Milton is how he makes us kids feel so proud and accomplished after an appointment. He's always giving us high fives and telling us what good jobs we did. Sometimes if we were extra brave, he'll even let us pick out a prize from the treasure chest! Whenever I leave his office with a new toothbrush, stickers, and a big smile on my face, I feel like a million bucks.In fact, thanks to Dr. Milton's wonderful care over the years, I now proudly have a mouth full of perfectly healthy teeth. He let me put the tooth under my pillow for the tooth fairy that night and everything!Speaking of the tooth fairy, I have to share one of my favorite Dr. Milton stories. One year around Christmas time, the tooth fairy accidentally dropped a whole bag of coins when she was visiting my house! My parents thought it would be fun to let me bring the coins into Dr. Milton and tell him the silly story. When I excitedly recounted the tale of the clumsy tooth fairy, Dr. Milton played right along. He gasped and said "No way, she dropped her whole bag?! What a butterfingers that tooth fairy is!" Then he spent the rest of the appointment trying to figure out where the tooth fairy could possibly live and how she collects so many coins night after night. His imagination and ability to pretend with me like that always makes me feel so special.Honestly, I could go on and on about why Dr. Milton is simply the best dentist ever.
