Attachthe 3-sided pieces to the triangular pieces with the captive screws installed inthe triangular fittings.Attach the element assemblies (with the 3-sided pieces towards the short logperiodic end) to the Bilogical boom in front of the black balun housing with thepre-installed captive screws.MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONSThe model SAS-521-X antennas have a mid-mount adapter supplied with theantenna to allow mounting at the CG of the antenna. Mounting the antenna tothe extension rod enables the antenna to be used in either horizontal or verticalpolarization.1.Mount the BTE-510 tripod extension rod to the ATU-510 tripod with the ¼-20 mounting screw.2.Mount the assembled antenna to the other end of the BTE-510 extensionrod with the supplied ¼-20 captive mounting screw.Attach the antenna to the azimuth and elevation head (AEH-510) through thescrew hole in the antenna base. The azimuth and elevation head (AEH-510)mounts to the tripod (ATU-510) top and allows the antennas to be rotated 360degrees and tilted between horizontal and vertical polarization. Each tripod legis independently adjustable in angle and length to facilitate antenna heightsetting. The tripod legs have a rubber tip on one end for indoor or hard surfaceuse, and a metal spike on the other end for outdoor soft surface (such as dirt)use.6© A.H. Systems inc. – December 2008REV COPERATING INSTRUCTIONSOnce the antenna is mounted to a mast or tripod, connect an N-type coaxialcable from the antenna to a receiver or RF generator. The cable should bematched to 50 ohms, relatively low loss and adequately shielded againstleakage such as RG-58 or better. For certain applications where an increaseddynamic range is required, an optional preamplifier (PAM-0202) may be used toincrease the total system sensitivity.The Bilogical Antenna is in the horizontal polarization when the antennaelements are parallel to the ground, and vertical polarization when the elementsare perpendicular to the ground.To minimize impedance mismatch errors, it is recommended that high-qualityin-line attenuators be used to reduce reflections. Connect the attenuator at theantenna end of the transmitting cable, or when receiving connect the attenuatorat the measuring instrument or preamplifier input.Dress the cables straight back from the antenna connector at least 1 meterbefore being dressed vertically down to the ground plane. Signal cables thatare dressed orthogonal to the antenna elements will have minimal coupling tothe antenna field, but the cable shields may carry external currents caused byimpedance imperfections. Also, portions of the cables that are not straight downor straight back will couple to the antenna fields.9© A.H. The calibration of EMC antennas is important for thoseconforming to compatibility standard. Radiated emissions testing forelectromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requires the measurement of electric field(E-field) strength, which is compared with a limit level. The output voltage of anantenna is converted to E-field strength via its antenna factor, the measurementof which must include the uncertainty components related to that particularantenna, taking into consideration the environment in which the antenna is to beused for the testing. Most standards will specify the appropriate interval for re-calibration of your EMC antenna.In some cases these antennas are used for a manufacturers pre-compliancetesting, field monitoring, surveillance and/or other applications where the exactfield intensity of the received signal is not of importance. Insert a driver (punch or drift) from the opposite side.Locate it on the back of the tool and use light tapping todrive the bearing from the shell.TIP: Unless a circlip is damaged, removal is unnecessary during bearing removal . Apply Loctite™ 609 carefully to the bearing seat positions on both side of the inside shell.4. Clean the outer surface of the adapter. Use a clean shop towel dampened with alcohol.5. The groove side of the adapter must be located on the drive side. We urge you to have your Dealer correctly torque all fasteners using a torque wrench.If you decide to tighten fasteners yourself always use a good torque wrench!* Clean and apply light grease to frame hole and pivot before installation.BEARING SHIELDSM A I N TE NAN CEBearings are a sealed cartridge type and do not require periodic lubrication. Unlike interference fit bearings that are pressed in place, these slip fit bearings are fixed in place with the anaerobic adhesive , Loctite™ 638. Please follow the instructions carefully, as the strength of the resulting bond between parts can be affected by surface preparation and time to cure.I N SPECTIO NThe condition of the bearings should be inspected every 25hrs or if the seat stay develops side-to-side play. Bearing condition can be inspected without removing the bearings from the part. To do it, disconnect the seat stay at the swingarm and shock link by removing the pivot axles and spacers. With the bearing exposed, rotate the inner race of each bearing with your fingertip. The inner race should rotate smoothly and without any play. The bearing itself should be fully and firmly seated in the depth of the bearing bore . Loose but undamaged bearings m ay be reinstalled using the technique as described next page. Dam aged bearings should be rem oved and replaced with new ones.R EMOV A LThe bearings are a slip fit within the bearing bore of both the seat stay and the shock link. They are not a press fit. The bearings are installed with Loctite 638 which bonds the bearing to the part. If the bearing is difficult to remove, you may need to warm the bearing carefully to loosen the Loctite bond. Locate a dowel on the face of the bearing and drive it out. Pressing the EFX up button will make the engine sound like it is working harder and will also increase the smoke output (if the smoke unit is turned on). Similarly, the EFX down button will decrease the laboring sound of the engine and smoke. A RESET command will return the EFX trim to its default setting.Notice that the current EFX level is displayed on the remote as a bar graph inside the soft key to the left of the ROLL button. The height of this graph varies with the EFX keys, throttle and train brake adjustments.Leaving the Preset Speed ScreenUse the Speed Bar to leave the Speed Panel and return to the Control panel. Press the Speed Bar to toggle between the Speed Control Panel and the Standard Control Panel.14Using the LEGACY RailSounds sound system in the conventional environmentW hen you first power up your locomotive, you will hear the sounds of the locomotive at rest. As the locomotive moves, the steam exhaust (chuffing sounds) automatically increase with the locomotive’s speed. In the conventional environment, the whistle and bell sounds are activated by your transformer controls, if so equipped.To adjust the volume, use the volume control knob. Refer to Figure 4 on page 7 for the location of the volume control knob.In the conventional environment, you will experience several features of the LEGACY RailSounds sound system.• DynaChuff. Your locomotive's speed automatically determines the character of the chuffing sounds. At low speeds, the chuffing sounds are longer. When you highball down the mainline, the chuffing intensity becomes more percussive.• MultiWhistle. A different whistle sound at different speeds.• Mechanical bell. Press BELL on your transformer to begin the effect, then press BELL a second time to discontinue the effect.• CrewTalk dialog and TowerCom announcements. These brief conversations between the train crew and the tower are triggered by short whistle blasts.Activating the CrewTalk dialog and TowerCom announcementsI n the conventional environment, CrewTalk dialog and TowerCom announcements are triggered by short whistle blasts and vary with the state of the locomotive.• If the locomotive has been stopped for less than 15 seconds, a short whistle blast triggers a “please standby” dialog.• If the locomotive has been stopped for longer than 15 seconds, a short whistle blast triggersa “cleared outbound” dialog.• If the locomotive has started moving within the last seven seconds, a short whistle blast will trigger a "train is underway" dialog.• If the locomotive has been moving for more than seven seconds, a short whistle blast will trigger a "are we clear?" dialog.23Reprogramming your locomotive to restore featuresI f your locomotive is unresponsive to your commands in the Command Control environment, we recommend that you follow this procedure to reset your locomotive. All factory default settings will be restored when you reprogram the locomotive.1. Slide the Program/Run switch to the PGM position.2. Plug in and connect your LEGACY Base.3. Place your locomotive on the track, then power up the track.4. Press ENG and enter the locomotive’s ID#.5. Press SET.6. Turn off track power.7. Slide the program run switch back to the RUN position.At this point, your locomotive has been reset. Restore power to the track and operate the locomotive as usual.
