As a pearl, I am a symbol of purity, elegance, and beauty. I am formed inside the shells of certain mollusks, such as oysters, and am highly valued for my lustrous shine and unique shape.
One of the most interesting things about me is that I am created by a natural process. When a foreign object, such as a grain of sand or a parasite, enters the shell of a mollusk, the mollusk secretes a substance called nacre around the object in order to protect itself. Over time, layer upon layer of nacre build up around the object, eventually forming a pearl.
I am often used in jewelry, such as necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. My value is determined by a number of factors, including my size, shape, color, and luster. The most valuable pearls are those that are perfectly round
and have a high luster.
