Inclusive Early Childhood Education_first draft
Inclusive Early Childhood EducationInclusive early childhood education means that children with special needs attend preschool, childcare, and recreational programs with typically developing peers. It is about belonging, being valued, and having right to choose. It is about accepting and valuing human diversity and providing the necessary support so that all children and their families can participate in appropriate educational programs successfully.Society’s attitude toward early childhood education ofchildren with disability has changed greatly during recent years. Caldwell gives the following description of the stages that our society has gone through in its treatment of people with disabilities: First, forget and hide, then, screen and segregate, next, identify and help, and now, include and support. This change is pleasant because i t’s really necessary for society to carry out inclusive early childhood education.Firstly, everyone should have the chance to enjoy inclusive education. As Oberti put it, “Inclusion is a right, not a privilege for a select few.” And the call for inclusion is coming from families, and professional organizations as well.Secondly, it’s harmful to separate young children with disabilities from normal experiences. If so, it may create distance andmisunderstanding, and as Haring and McCormick point out, separating these youngsters from the real world means that there must be reentry. Butif we don’t remove the child from normal environment in the beginning, reentry problems can be avoided. Wolery andWilbersargued that young children with disabilities who only play with other disabled children would not learn normal social skills. It is reasonable and it is also true that playing with typically developing children is an essential part of disabled children’ growth. Finally, the majority of young children, unless influenced by inappropriate adults’word and behavior, can acceptindividual difference naturally, even without figuring out it. One parent tells the following st ory. “Andrea came back from preschool saying she wanted to invite Katie home for lunch the next day. I could not figure out who Katie was. Andrea tried to describe Katie’s hair, then her new jacket, then her paintings. I still couldn’t p lace her. Finally Andrea said, ‘Katie’s the one who comes with shiny ribbons in her hair,’and I knew immediately who Katie was. She was the child in the wheelchair who always had big colorful bows at the ends of her braids! Apparently, using a wheelchair was not one of Katie’s outstanding characteristics for my child.”Obviously, for Andrea, the disability of Katie doesn’t seem to be a problem or something worth paying attention to. If every child can act like Andrea, the relationship between normal and disabled people will be more harmonious in the future.Inclusive early childhood education is of great benefit to both disabled and normal children. For children with disabilities, they can develop themselves better through class that stress theirstrengths and advantages rather than one that focused on what is wrong with them. Besides, Peterson claimed that a more demanding environment might push the child ahead to develop more appropriatebehavior repertoires.Exposed to various experiences, those disabled children will have motivation to try harder to catch up with other children. Also, certain skills, such as communication skills, can be acquired more easily from children of the same age. In a normal class, disabled children will have more opportunities to observe thosewho have acquired better social skills so as to learn directly from them.At the same time, typically developing children can alsogrow better through inclusive early childhood education. Kishi and Meyer concluded thatfor one thing, those who grow up with opportunities to interact with children with disabilities are likely to be more tolerant in later years. For another, they tend to grow into adults with greater understanding and respect for those less able in our society.Despitethose benefits, a number of concerns about inclusionchildhood education continue to be raised. A common oneis that the special needs of children may not be adequately met in an inclusive class. Another concern is that typically developing children will getless attention if children with disabilities are specially cared about. Besides, typically developing children may learn inappropriate behaviors from disabled children. But large quantities of studies conducted over the past ten years showed that most of these anxieties were unnecessary.Although there are still many obstacles to overcome, the advantages of inclusion for all children are numerous andbeneficial. We should join force to develop a better inclusive approach to early childhood education, which can help both typically developing and disabled children to earn a better future.。

我眼中的学前教育英语作文
我眼中的学前教育英语作文Early childhood education is a crucial phase in a child's development that lays the foundation for their future academic and personal success. As an educator, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that high-quality early childhood education can have on a child's cognitive, social, and emotional growth. In my eyes, early childhood education is not merely about imparting knowledge but rather nurturing the whole child and preparing them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. One of the primary goals of early childhood education is to foster a love of learning in young children. At this tender age, children are naturally curious and eager to explore the world around them. Effective early childhood education programs capitalize on this innate curiosity by providing engaging, hands-on learning experiences that ignite their imagination and encourage them to ask questions, problem-solve, and think critically. By cultivating this love of learning, we can instill in children the confidence and motivation to continue their educational journey with enthusiasm and determination.Another essential aspect of early childhood education is the development of social and emotional skills. Young children are navigating the complexities of interpersonal relationships, learning to regulate their emotions, and developing the foundations of their personality. Early childhood education programs that prioritize social-emotional learning provide children with the tools they need to navigate these challenges successfully. Through activities that promote cooperation, empathy, and conflict resolution, children learn to express their feelings, communicate effectively, and build positive relationships with their peers and teachers. In addition to cognitive and social-emotional development, early childhood education also plays a crucial role in physical development. High-quality programs incorporate age-appropriate physical activities and gross motor skill development, which not only support children's overall health and well-being but also contribute to their cognitive and social-emotional growth. When children engage in physical play, they develop coordination, balance, and spatial awareness, while also learning to take turns, follow rules, and collaborate with others. One of the unique aspects of early childhood education is the emphasis on individualized instruction and the recognition that each child is unique, with their own strengths, challenges, and learningstyles. Effective early childhood educators understand the importance of tailoring their teaching methods and curriculum to meet the specific needs of each child. This personalized approach ensures that all children, regardless of their background or abilities, have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.Another crucial element of high-quality early childhood education is the partnership between educators and families. Children's learning and development are deeply influenced by the home environment and the support they receive from their families. Successful early childhood education programs actively engage parents and caregivers, fostering open communication, providing resources and strategies for supporting learning at home, and collaborating to ensure a seamless transition between the educational setting and the child's family life.Furthermore, early childhood education plays a vital role in promoting equity and social justice. Children from diverse backgrounds, including those from low-income families, English language learners, and children with special needs, often face significant barriers to educational success. Early childhood education programs that prioritize inclusive practices, provide specialized support, and actively work to address systemic inequities can help level the playing field and ensure that all children have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. In conclusion, my perspective on early childhood education is that it is a fundamental and invaluable component of a child's overall development. By nurturing a love of learning, fostering social-emotional skills, supporting physical development, embracing individualized instruction, partnering with families, and promoting equity, high-quality early childhood education lays the groundwork for a child's future academic achievement, personal growth, and social well-being. As an educator, I am deeply committed to advocating for and implementing best practices in early childhood education, with the ultimate goal of empowering all children to reach their full potential and become confident, compassionate, and successful individuals.。

Inclusive Early Childhood Education Inclusive early childhood education means that children with special needs attend preschool, childcare, and recreational programs with typically developing peers. It is about belonging, being valued and having right to choose. It is about accepting the difference of people and providing the necessary support so that all children can participate in appropriate educational.Society’s attitude toward early childhood education ofchildren with disabilities has changed greatly during recent years. Caldwell (1973)gives the following description of the stages that our society has gone through in its treatment of people with disabilities: First, forget and hide, then, screen and segregate, next, identify and help, and now, include and support. This change is pleasant because it’s really necessary for society to take an inclusive attitude, especially towards the education of children with disabilities.Firstly, everyone should have the chance to enjoy inclusive education. Just as Oberti(1993)put it, “Inclusion is a right, not a privilege for a select few.”.We have no right to rob disabled children of their normal education. And the call for inclusion is coming from families, and professional organizations as well.Secondly, it’s harmful to separate young children with disabilities from normal experiences. If so, it may create distance andmisunderstanding. Although some disabled children may become outstanding in the future, most of them remain in poor condition, and that’s what we usually see in our life. Wolery and Wilbers(1994) argued that young children with disabilities who only play with other disabled children would not learn normal social skills. But i f we don’t remove them from the normal environment at the beginning, they will not be left out or ignored, and the gap between them and us will be narrowed. So it is reasonable that playing with typically developing children is an essential part of disabled children’ growth, without whichthe normal development of children will be hurt. Finally, the majority of children, unless influenced by inappropriate adults’ word and behavior, can accept those differences naturally, even without figuring it out. One parent tells the story of her daughter Andrea. Andrea came back from preschool saying she wanted to invite Katie home for lunch the next day. But the parent could not figure out who Katie was. Andrea tried to describe Katie’s hair, then her new jacket, her shiny ribbons, and then her paintings. But she never mentioned that Katie was the child in the wheelchair. Apparently, using a wheelchair was not Katie’s outstanding feature for Andrea. And the disability of Katie doesn’t seem to be a problem or something worth paying attention to. If every child can act like Andrea in treating with disabled children and hold on to this attitude when they grow up, the relationship between normal and disabled people will be more harmonious in the future. For children with disabilities, they can develop themselves better through class that stresses their strengths and advantages rather than their disabilities. Besides, Peterson (1987) concluded that a more demanding environment might push the child ahead to develop more appropriate behaviorrepertoires.Exposed to various experiences, those disabled children will have motivation to try harder to catch up with other children. Also, it seems that certain skills, such as communication skills, can be acquired more easily from children of the same age. In a normal class, disabled children will have more opportunities to observe and contact with those who have acquired better social skills so as to learn from them directly. At the same time, typically developing children can alsogrow better through inclusive early childhood education. Kishi and Meyer(1994)claimed that, for one thing, those who grow up with more opportunities to interact with children with disabilities are likely to be more tolerant in later years. For another, they tend to show more understanding and respect for those who are disabled in our society.Although there are still many obstacles to overcome, the advantages of inclusion for all children are numerous. We should join force to develop a better inclusive approach to early childhood education, which can help both typically developing and disabled children to earn a better future.ReferenceCaldwell, B.
