Introduction of Frances Hodgson Burnett
A Little Princess is a touching novel written by Frances Hodgson Burnett--a novelist and dramatist in England. Frances Eliza Hodgson Burnett(November 24, 1849-October29,1924) was an English playwright and author. She is best known for her children’s stories, in particular The Secret Garden, A little Princess, and Little Lord Fauntleroy. Burnett enjoyed socializing and lived a lavish lifestyle. Beginning in the 1880s she began to travel to England frequently and bought a home there in the 1890s. Her oldest son, Lionel, died of tuberculosis in 1892, which cause a relapse of the depression she struggled with for much of her life. She divorced Swan Burneet in 1898 and remarried in 1900, although her second marriage only lasted for a year. At the end of her life she settled in Long Island, where she died in 1924.
Summary of A Little Princess
Smart beautiful young Sarah, her family was so rich that all the students envy her in the private school. Unfortunately, her father suddenly died because of bankrupt, she became a penniless orphan, and she was crowed out by many students. The snobbish principal made her be deprived of education and become a servant, thus she suffered the cold and contempt. However, she still had good friends and she was indomitable and tough will maintained her noble soul. Also her love of others and life made her with the happiness and people’s love.

“It makes me fell as if someone had hit me,” Sara told Ermengarde once in confidence. “And as of I want to hit back. I have yo remember thing quickly to keep from saying something ill-tempered(2006:59).”
In my opinion, it is impossible for every rich girl to ant like well-behaved princess, but Sara, the heroine of the novel, did it! She was an imaginative little girl who had such intelligent small face and such perfect manners. Sara was a very nice girl who had a gentle, appreciative ways of saying, such as”If you please”“Thank you” which was very charming. So what we can see from this plot is that Sarah is a sensible, thoughtful and considerate girl. Little Lottie’s howl made her very angry, but she knew how to control her temper. She kept telling herself that she should be more sensible. A girl at her age knows how to give consideration to others’ feeling. I think it is very rare.
“ I want her because I know she will like yo see the presents,” she explained. “ she is a little girl, too, you know.”Miss Minchin was scandalized. She glanced from one figure to the other. “My dear Sara,”she said, “Berky is the scullery maid, Scullery maids--er--are not little girls.”It really not occurred to her to think of them in that light. Scullery maids were machines who carried coal scuttles and made from
