And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, though the sword hidden among hispinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you, believe in him, though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden. But if, in your fear, you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor, into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears. Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not, nor would it be possessed, for love is sufficient unto love.Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if you love and must have desires, let these be your desires:To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To be wounded by your own understanding of love; And to bleed willingly and joyfully. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving; To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy; To return home at eventide with gratitude; And then to sleep with a payer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips. 4:WhatGoesAround,esAroundBut he stayed on. After all, this was where he buried his mother and father. He was born here and he knew the country. He could go down this road blind, and tell you what was on either side, and with his headlights not working, which came in handy. It wasstarting to get dark and light snow flurries were ing down. He'd better get a move on.You know, he almost didn't see the old lady, stranded on the side of the road. But even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her. Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so.Was he going to hurt her? He didn't look safe, he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was that chill which only fear can put in you. He said, “I'm here to help you ma'am. Why don't you wait in the car where it's warm? By the way, my name is Bryan”.Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt. Ashe was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn't thank him enough for ing to her aid. Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. She askedhim how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She had already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped.Bryan never thought twice about the money. Thiswas not a job to him. This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty who had given him a hand in the past... He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance that they needed, and Bryan added “...and think of me”. He waiteduntil she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The cash register was like the telephone of an out of work actor - it didn't ring much. Her waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't erase. The lady noticed that the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had solittle could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Bryan. After the lady finished her meal, and the waitress went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, the lady slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. She wondered where the lady could be, then she noticed something written on the napkin under which were 4more $100 bills. There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote. It said:Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could thelady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard. She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, “Everything's gonna be all right; I love you, Bryan.” 5:IStillChoose"Mom"I watched through blurred vision as my husband, Chuck, walked away with his ex-wife.The heaviness in all our hearts was almost unbearable. Turning back to my stepson“s casket I somehow helped my children pluck a rose from the brother spray to press in their Bibles. With tearsstreaming down my face, I rested my hand on the son spray. I no longer knew my place.God, I silently screamed, how did I fit in Conan”s life? From the moment I“d met my stepson, I was in awe of this angelic little boy whose bright, blond hair seemed to glow with a heavenly radiance. At only a year-and-a-half, he was built like a three-year-old. Solid and stocky, sleeping curled in my lap, his tiny heart beat against mine, and a maternal bonding began stirring inside me.Within a year I became a stepmother to Conan and his older sister, Lori. Soon after that, a visit to the doctor revealed some disheartening news.”You have an infertility disease,“ the doctor had said. ”You might not ever have children of your own.“At twenty-two, that news was shattering. I hadalways wanted to be a mother. Suddenly, I realized being a stepmother might be as close as I would get, and I became even more involved in their lives. But thankfully, four years later we joyfully discovered I was pregnant. Chase was born, then two years later we were blessed with our daughter, Chelsea. Then one day at a gathering of my own family, I watched as my mother went up to my stepmother and gave her a hug. I turned and saw my father and stepfather laughing together. Having always appreciated the cooperative relationship my parents and stepparents had, it occurred to me that Chuck“s children longedfor the same. So Chuck and I decided to work hard at bridging gaps instead of creating them.It wasn”t easy, and changes didn“t e overnight, but they did e. By the time Conan was fifteen, a peace had settled between parents and stepparents. Insteadof griping about child-support payments, wevoluntarily increased them. And finally Conan”s mom gave us copies of his report cards and football schedules.I was proud of my kids and stepkids. After graduation, my stepdaughter married, and she and her husband built a house together. At seventeen, Conanhad bee a sensible, intelligent young man. With rugged good looks and a deep, baritone voice, I wondered what fortunate girl would snatch him up.英语阅读6:AbundanceisaLifeStyleAbundance is a life style, a way of living your life. It isn’t something you buy now and then or pull down from the cupboard, dust off and use once or twice, and then return to the cupboard.Abundance is a philosophy; it appears in your physiology, your value system, and carries its own set of beliefs. You walk with it, sleep with it, bath with it, feel with it, and need to maintain and take careof it as well.Abundanc e doesn’t always require money. Many people live with all that money can buy yet live empty inside. Abundance begins inside with some main self-ingredients, like love, care, kindness and gentleness, thoughtfulness and passion. Abundance is a state of being. It radiates outward. It shines like the sun among the many moons in the world.Being from the brightness of abundance doesn’t allow the darkness to appear or be in the path unless a choice to allow it to. The true state of abundance doesn’t have room for lies or games normally played. The space is too full of abundance. This may be a challenge because we still need to shine for other to see.Abundance is seeing people for their gifts and not what they lack or could be. Seeing all things fortheir gifts and not what they lack.Start by knowing what your abundances are, fill that space with you, and be fully present from that state of being. Your profession of choice is telling you of knowing and possibilities. That is their gift. Consultants and customer service professionals have the ministrative assistants and virtual assistants have an abundance of coordination and time management. Abundance is all around you, and all within. See what it is; love yourself for what it is, not what you’re missing, or what that can be better, but for what it is at this present moment.Be in a state of abundance of what you already have. I guarantee they are there; it always is buried but there. Breathe them in as if they are the air you breathe because they are yours. Let go of anythingthat isn’t abundant for the time being. Name the shoe boxes in your closet with your gifts of abundance;pull from them every morning if needed. Know they are there.Learning to trust in your own abundance is required. When you begin to be within your own space of abundance, whatever you need will appear whenever you need it. That’s just the way the higher powers set this universe up to work. Trust the universal energy. The knowing of it all will humble you to its power yet let the brightness of you shine everywhere it needs to. Just by being from a state of abundance, it is being you.。

另外正式语体的词也是显而易见的:govern比control正式;hither and thither 为古旧用法,但是用在这里比in all directions显得正式;verge比edge更具有文学色彩,即比喻性用法(metaphorical use)。

These passions, in a 3)wayward course, over a deep ocean of 4)anguish, reaching to the very 5)verge of despair.I have sought love, first, because it brings 6)ecstasy-ecstasy so great that I would often have 7)sacrificed all the rest of life for a few hours of this joy. I have sought it, next, because it relieves loneliness-that terrible loneliness in which one shivering consciousness looks over the rim of the world into the cold8)unfathomable lifeless abyss. I have sought it, finally, because in the union of love I have seen, in a mystic 9)miniature, the 10)prefiguring vision of the heaven that 11)saints and poets have imagined. This is what I sought, and though it might seem too good for human life, this is what-at last-I have found. With equal passion I have sought knowledge. I have wished to understand the hearts of men. I have wished to know why the stars shine. And I have tried to 12)apprehend the 13)Pythagorean power by which number holds sway above the flux. A little of this, but not much, I have achieved.Love and knowledge, so far as they were possible, led upward toward the heavens. But always pity brought me back to earth. Echoes of cries of pain reverberate in my heart. Children in famine, victims tortured by 14)oppressors, helpless old people a hated burden to their pain make a 15)mockery of what human life should be. I long to 16)alleviate the evil, but I can't, and I too suffer. This has been my life. I have found it worth living, and would gladly live it again if the chance were offered me.

what I have lived for
What I Have Lived ForWhat I have lived for ? This is a problem worth thinking about .As the situation changes ,the purpose and the mind of one will change.A person’s life can be divided into several stages with growing up.When I was a kid, I cared nothing but eating, drinking and playing. That time, I went to primary school to learn some simple knowledge and went out for fun with my partners.I was not familiarly with the ways of the world and lived rustically .That was the most carefree time in my life, the time which always makes me miss Meanwhile,I am aware that I won’t have a period of time just like that. After entering high school, my life became so busy just like someone else .Occasionally, I complained of the boring, repetive and busy life with my friends, seeming that I couldn’t pass that time for it was so laborious .I often dreamed of being admitted to ideal college, fleeing the annoying life .It’s a pity that I wasn’t realized high school is a perfect paradise .Now, I am studying in Hunan University .School life is indeed more relaxing than high school life .I have many chances taking part in various activities ,the activities which broaden my horizon ,enrich my sparetime life and make me have a different vision of the world .I make friend with more ability and insight here .This is just first year of my college life .I believe it will bring me more surprise in the near future. Then, what I have lived for? Different answers in different times and places .In my opinion, one should do his best to finish the most important thing in life .I need make people around me much happier , help people who are in trouble instead of laughing at them ,and cheer them up when they are depressed .Above all ,I have to learn how to think and develop the philosophy of my own life after learning knowledge .。

His most influential contributions include his defense of logicism (the view that mathematics is in some important sense reducible to logic), and his theories of definite descriptions and logical atomism. Along with G.E. Moore, Russell is generally recognized as one of the founders of analytic philosophy. Along with Kurt Gödel, he is also regularly credited with being one of the two most important logicians of the twentieth century.

What I have lived for
Three passions have governed my life: the fanaticism for literature, the longing for friendship and the fantasy of dreams. These passions, like a network, invisible but exist at every moment, have closed overwhelmingly strong around my life.
I have been obsessed in literature, first, because it brings pleasure. From a dream in red mansions, I have sought the loyal and steadfast of affection which is between ancient young men and women. From Syray Birds, I have appreciated the beauty of the nature with Tagore. I also searched the power which made me silence from Walden Pond. This is what I aspired, and though it might seem too good for college students, this is what, at last, I have found.
With equal passion I have sought friendship, which is the care from friends instead of romance. When I fell in the deep ocean of anguish, when I wander at the very verge of despair, when I was struck by sorrow, a call or a short message from my parents or my intimate friends would warm my cold heart. As it says, a friend in need is a friend indeed. The real friends should share their happiness and hardship. Literature and friendship, so far as they were possible, made my life substantial, and my fantasy brought me to paradise. In paradise, I have seen a green fairy in the sky, blinking towards me and disappearing in the rainbow. I have heard a swan in the lake, singing to his girlfriend for his court affectionately. I have touched the mane of a pegasus beside the milky way, wet with meteor shower. I have smelled roses, sweet roses, in a beautiful garden that is full of flowers surrounded by bees and butterflies. I have tasted a peach, a fresh peach, on the hill, in the morning, with thousands of monkeys capering hither and thither. These things, what I have imaged, relaxed me. This has been my life. I have found it worth living, and would gladly live it again if the chance was offered me.。
