Sti11, T was never bored・ The fields, hills, and woodlands around my home were the perfect playgrounds whose adventures were only limited by my imagination. I can remember once hiking to a nearby lake and slowly walking around it. At the backside of it 1 was amazed to find an old, one lane, dirt road that I had never ・seen before.
I immediately set out to travel it. Tt was ful1 of muddy tire tracks and deep woods bordered it on both sides, but exploring it sti11 seemed 1 ike a fine adventure.
I walked on and on for what seemed like hours・ I am sure my guardian angel was whispering in my ear to turn around and head back home but I was stubborn and even
a bit stupid, so I walked on. The dirt road gave way to a gravel one and then a paved one, yet there was still neither a car nor a house in sight. My legs were getting tired・ I noticed that the sun was starting to go down and I grew scared・ I didn, t want to end up trapped on this road in the dark of night, but I was sure it wou1d be dark before 1 could make my way back to the lake again.
I continued to walk on with the something growing inside of me. My heart was pounding and my 1 egs were aching. I was almost in tears when T turned one last curve and saw something in the distance. Drinks Have No Wings
You may have heard that “Red Bull gives you wings” ・But while most people take the advert i si ng sloga n as a metaphor (隐喻),some America ns seem to have take n it very seriously.
Benjamin Careathers had been drinking the drink for 10 years, expecting to at least feel more energotic, but nothing happened. Feeling fooled by the ad, he took the issue to court.
In October, the Austria-based company agreed to pay $6.5 mi Ilion (39.7 million yuan) to customers who have bought the drink since 2002. People in the US can apply for a share through energydrinksettiement. com before March 2015.
But is the case really that ridiculous?
Red Bull said they had done nothing wrong and they only paid the money to save the cost and trouble of legal action.
However, the suit (诉讼)told a different story. Even though there is no evidence that Red Bull energy drinks provide more benefit for consumers than a cup of coffee, the company markets their products as a superior source of energy that costs 1 ittle.
"Such conduct mea ns that Red Bull s advert is ing and marketing is not just "puffery'(吹捧)but is misleading and therefore actionable (可诉讼的),” the suit said.
The company said that the drink could promote healthy joints and reduce the risk of eye diseases. However, according to the organization, the product contains a lot of sugar, which could actually lead to many health problems.
Coca-Cola agreed to pay $ 1・2 million in compensation in July. But to fully stop the company from linking the drink to health benefit, Truth in Advertising, another non-profit organization, took the issue to court again in late October.

Do you ever wonder why trees begin to bud (发芽)earlier in some cities? Scientists finally found the answer but it' s not very pleasant. New scienee suggests a relationship between light pollution and the timing when trees produce buds, which signals the arrival of the spring season.
Light pollution is defined by the Lighting Research Center as the unwanted consequenee of outdoor 1 ighting such as street 1 ights. Excessive (过多的)man-made light at night results in disturbed natural cycles, and also prevents the observation of stars and planets at night. But its effect on the environmcmt goes beyond that.
By studying some trees, researchers found out that trees that are more exposed to artificial lighting at night bud up to 7. 5 days earl ier tha<n those at the natural ni ghtt ime set ting. And they found out that light had a more significant effect tha n temperature who n the buds came out. The early buddi ng may cause problems for in sects, which feed on leaves, and the birds which then feed on them in turn・ Professor Richard French Constant, who helped lead the research,
explained that more than the budding of trees, the study imp] ies the dan ger to the balance of the ecosystem. "At the mome nt, caterpillars (毛毛虫)are timed to hatch to make the most of the opportunities to feed on freshly budded leaves, and birds hatch in time to feed on the young caterpillar, ” he said.
Migratory (迁徙的)birds are also negatively affected by light pollution. The glare mi ght conf use them mid make them lose their flying sen se. The phe nomenon mi ght explain why some birds accidentally knock into buildings.
Such results stress the need to pursue studies that aim to measure the effect of light pollution. If the issue were left to continue, it is estimated that by 2100, spring would begin almost a full month earlier than it does today.
32.What wi11 happen if there is too much man-made 1ight?
A. People" s eyesight wil1 be damaged.
B. The ecosystem wil 1
likely lose its balanee.
C・ No stars or planets may be observed at night. D. Animals' living
habits may change suddenly.
33.How does the early budding affect insects or plants?
A. It will cause the rising number of insects・B・ It could lead to trees growing fewer leaves.
C・ It may result in some insects going hun gry. D・ It might push in sects to hatch more slowly.
34.What does the author want to tel 1 us in the last paragraph?
A. The effect of light pollution is destructive・B・ The spring of 2100 will become much longer.
C.Light pollution should be taken seriously. light pollution is
D・ A further study on scheduled.
35.The 况uthor writes the passage mainly to explain ______________________ .
A・ why spring comes earlier in some cities B・ why light pollution
needs to be studied
C. how trees' early budding takes place
D. how much light is "too much”
