status symbols in Africa.

Housewor is a frequent source of conflict between lay husbands and their hard-woring wives, but women have been warned not to epect men to pull their weight any time soon.
A study from Oford University has found that men are unliely to be doing an equal share of housewor before 2050. Mothers, the researchers warned, will continue to shoulder the burden of childcare and housewor for the net four decades, largely because housewor such as cleaning and cooing is still regarded as “women’s wor”.
The gap between the amount of time men and women spend on housewor has narrowed slowly over the past 40 years. But it will tae another four decades before true housewor equality is achieved, the study concluded.
The research found that in the Nordic countries, the burden of housewor is shared more equally between men and women. In the U, women spend an average of four hours and forty minutes each day on housewor, compared with two hours and twenty-eight minutes for men. This is an improvement from the 1960s, when British women typically spent si hours a day on housewor, while men spent just 90 minutes every day.
But progress towards housewor equality appears to be slowing in some countries. Dr Oriel Sullivan, a research reader from Oford’s Department of Sociology, said, “we’ve looed at what is affecting the equality in the home, and we have found that certain tass seem to be given according to whether they are viewed as ‘men’s wor’or ‘women’s wor’.”
Dr. Sullivan said cultural attitudes taught at school may be responsible for the views of housewor. “At school it is much easier for a girl to be a tomboy, but it is much more difficult for a boy to enjoy baing and dancing,”she said.

A. Lose weight.

B. They would lie to do so.
C. They can do better in housewor.
D. Housewor will still be considered "women’s wor".
27. From Paragraph 4 we now that in the U ___________.
A. men now spend just 90 minutes a day on housewor on average
B. women now spend less time on housewor than before
C. housewor is shared equally between men and women
D. women now are too busy with their wor to do housewor
28. In Dr. Sullivan’s opinion, what is to blame for the housewor inequality?
A. Cultural attitudes towards housewor.
B. Policies made by the government.
C. The time spent on wor.
D. The type of housewor.

W Yes, it’s me. You loo familiar.
M I’m so glad I too your lecture. I thought that it would be impossible for me to learn how to use
a computer at my age, but now I’m echanging e-mails with my grandchildren. It’s the happiest
thing after my retirement.
W That’s great. It’s rewarding for me to do something meaningful in my spare time. That was a good eperience for me, too, because that was a change of pace from my daytime job as a sales representative.

M Today we are visiting what is probably the most unusual animal shelter in Britain. It does not
house, as one would epect, a variety of wild animals rescued from oos or sea creatures from ocean pars. So don’t epect to see any lions, elephants or shars here. What it does have is a lot of very lucy and happy cows, pigs, goats, sheep and chicens. Why lucy? Well, these poor creatures have basically been rescued from becoming your lunch by animal rights groups. They are able to live out the rest of their lives here in Woodhill Shelter.
The shelter was set up by Jill and Ben Smith. Neither of them eats any animal products, but lives instead on a plant-based diet. They say it is a inder way to live and better for the planet. The idea to build a shelter first occurred to them in 2011, and it w as two years later that they put the idea into practice. Three years afterwards, they published a boo called Our Farm Family, which was about the stories of the animals on the farm.
All the farm worers are volunteers without pay, but get free lunch and coffee in return for their wor. But having done it myself, I can tell you that it is truly a rewarding eperience.
If you want to visit the farm, you can phone 6978325 for more information. And if you want to become a volunteer, you must visit the website and fill in the online form. Posts are not accepted because letters are easy to lose.。
