even our husbands or wives will be met in this way. It will be much faster and easier for us. On the other hand, our relation ships with people won’t be as important as they are today---- we will feel a little lonely.
Computers will also help us in many other activities in 2050. For example, they will be used by the children at school to ma ke their learning easier. In addition, there will be much more o ther machines which will play a similar role as computers, like robots which will do the housework for us .
Spending holidays will also be completely different. Traveling to other planets or to the moon will be available for everyone. Means of transport will, of course, change, too. we will be usin g solar-
powered cars , which will be much more environmentally frien dly .
We could expect that the faster technological progress would
lead to a more polluted environment. But it isn’t true .We will pay more attention to protecting the environment. And, scienti sts will probably find cures for many dangerous diseases, like cancer or AIDS . Therefore, our surroundings as well as healt h will be in a better condition.
Although we can’t predict the exact changes which will be ma de in the world, we often think about them. We worry about ou r and our children’s future; we have expectation, hopes as wel l as fears. But I think we should be rather sanguine about our future. We should be happy and believe good things will happ en.

Do American children still learn handwriting in school? In the age of the keyboard, some people seem to think handwriting l essons are on the way out. 90%
of teachers say they are required to teach handwriting. But st udies have yet to answer the question of how well they are te aching it. One study published this year found that about thre e out of every four teachers say they are not prepared to teac
h handwriting. Some teachers are teaching handwriting by pro viding instruction for 10 to 15 minutes a day, and then other te achers who basically teach it for 60 to 70 minutes a day - wh ich really is pretty much for handwriting.
Many adults remember learning that way - by copying letter s over and over again. Today's thinking is that short periods o f practice are better. Many experts also think handwriting sho uld not be taught by itself. Instead, they say it should be used as a way to get students to express ideas. After all, that is wh y we write.
Handwriting involves two skills. One is legibility, which means forming the letters so they can be read. The other is fluency - writing without having to think about it. Fluency continues t o develop up until high school.
But not everyone masters these skills. Teachers commonly r eport that about one fourth of their kids have poor handwriting . Some people might think handwriting is not important any m ore because of computers and voice recognition programs.
But Steve Graham at Vanderbilt says word processing is rare ly done in elementary school, especially in the early years. A merican children traditionally first learn to print, and then to wr ite in cursive, which connects the letters. But guess what we l earned from a spokeswoman for the College Board, which ad
ministers the SAT college admission test. More than 75% of s tudents choose to print their essay on the test rather than writ
e in cursive.
65. Which of the following is WRONG for traditional handwriti ng in the USA?

C. Handwriting includes two skills
D. To write in cursive is taught first

Randy Grim brought home his first stray dog(流浪
狗) when he was only 5 years old. The fear that he saw in the eyes of that first dog-
eventually replaced by gratitude and love-
moved Grim so deeply that even at that young age he knew h e had found his life’s work. In 1998, Grim formed a nonprofit g roup called Stray Rescue. The group’s goal: to save as many of St. Louis’s stray dogs as possible.
Today, Grim heads up an organization with a $3 million annu al budget, a staff of more than 50 paid workers, thousands of volunteers, and a well-

a massive education campaign. The group’s bill-boards(广告牌)advocating adoption and neutering(绝育)
of dogs are everywhere, as are brochures informing the public of free medical care for dogs and volunteer opportunities at S tray Rescue.
“The whole landscape has changed,” says Pam Walker, St. L ouis city health director. Since Grim’s involvement, she says, St. Louis has become a model for good practices in the area. Officials elsewhere sometimes ask how St. Louis deals with it s dog problems. Walker says,“My answer is:
We have Randy Grim.”
Grim says he is delighted at the way the city has responded.
Many St. Louis citizens “were already there,” he says, in term s of concern for dogs. “I’m really proud of my city.”
72. Which of the following is true of Randy Grim?
A. He is afraid of speaking out for dogs.
B. He decided to rescue stray dogs when young.
