Dad Tony, after receiving a wrong text from a woman named Syd asking for advice on her dress, decided to spread some joy. "I thought, let's try and make this young lady's day," Tony said. He got his kids together and sent out a series of cute texts that she would never forget.
What he didn't know, however, was how this random act of kindness would impact on his family's lives. The missing child from the cute pictures Tony sent to Syd is called Kaizler, and the reason why he wasn't there, smiling broadly with a thumbs-up along with other children, is that he was with his mom Rachel in the hospital, where he is currently receiving a leukemia(白血病) treatment. "Kaizler is doing well," Tony said. "We still have about a year's worth of treatments to go. He really wanted to try going to kindergarten, so we gave that a shot, but he was getting sick way too often."
Tony and the kids' sweet exchange with Syd went viral online, with people falling in love with the amusing and heartwarming way it unfolded. And now their good deed has had totally unexpected and amazing consequences. "Since this all started we've had over $ 3,000 donated to our little cancer patient," Tony explained. "That's more than we had got in total over the last 2 years. It's been amazing and is a bigger blessing than anyone could ever know. All your help and support are greatly appreciated."
The reaction surprised Kaizler's mom Rachel very much. "I would also like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all the kind words, all the donations, all the love and support. We honestly would never have been able to make it this far in our journey without every single one of you!"

The trousers known as jeans were the product of a partnership between Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss. They are popular with many generations of people — in America, especially, but also in many other countries. Jeans have different colors these day, but the most common color is the original blue.
One very common material used in the making of jeans is denim(蓝粗棉布). The word "denim" actually came from the French language. Specifically, the city of Nimes, as a major producing center in France, was the setting for much production of the cloth used to make trousers. The cloth became so associated with the city in which it was made that it came to be called "from Nimes", or, in French "de Nimes". And over time "de Nimes" became shortened to "denim".
The color of blue comes from the dye(染料) used in the making of jeans, and that dye was made from indigo, a plant that gives a blue substance. In the late Middle Ages and in the 19th century, as cloth production increased across the European continent and trade between Europe and Asia developed, one trade route that became well-known was the shipping of indigo dye from India to Europe. Nimes was one of the places to which much Indian indigo dye was shipped. Unlike other dyes, which when heated went into the cotton fibers, it was attached to the outside of the cloth. And with each wash, the indigo dye more solidly bonded with the cloth, making the jeans softer and creating the softened blue look that is now so familiar.
Today's dye is artificial. But in many ways, the look and feel haven't changed. What has changed is that the number of producers has increased in a big way and the number of people who wear jeans — blue has increased greatly.
8. What do we know about jeans?
A. Their birth was a joint effort.
B. They come in a great many varieties.
C. They gain most acceptance in America.
D. Their popularity declines in modem times.
9. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The material of jeans.
B. The origin of denim.
C. The production of cloth.
D. The development of denim.
10. What feature does the Indian indigo dye have?
A. It has a better color effect.
B. It's very sensitive to high heat.
C. It mixes easily with cotton fibers.
D. Its color stays unchanged over time.
11. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To analyze the cause of jeans' popularity.
B. To introduce the process of making jeans.
C. To stress the impact of Europe-Asia trade.
D. To explain the reason for jeans' being blue.
D
The demand for digital audio(音频的) books is growing very rapidly. Let's first look at why this has happened. The busy lifestyle leaves us little time to sit down and read a paper book. Besides, we all have time in the day when we are not really busy mentally. Therefore, we listen and "read" when doing other things.
An audio book, read by a professional narrator(讲述者) who is telling you the story, is an ideal way to "read" books that you wanted to read for long but that lack of time did not permit you to read. Storytelling has a very long tradition and with the new technology, it is gaining popularity again.
"For many people, listening to an audio book is an opportunity to hear an author firsthand," says Mary Beth Roche, president of the Audio Publishers Association. "It's like having the very best lecture series, not just in your own town, but in your own car or home — and at your command, they'll read when YOU are ready to listen."
Audio books used to be thought of as limited special products for only the blind and
sight-impaired(视力受损的) or for kids and lazy people who either can not or do not want to read themselves. This has greatly changed over the last few years. A study found that the average listener of audio books is about 45 years of age and has an average yearly income of over $ 50,000, and at least a college education and often more advanced degrees. And these people have practical knowledge or understanding of the Internet.
Moreover, audio books are especially good for children who hate to read because of problems in school. That way they are familiar with the adventure of using their own imagination to paint their mental pictures of what they hear, rather than just staring at the TV screen. Also, if they have the book and the audio, reading along can help them overcome reading problems.
12. Who most probably like digital audio books?
A. People who love high-tech products.
B. People who prefer listening to stories.
C. People who read anytime and anywhere.
D. People who cannot spare time for reading.
13. How is paragraph 4 mainly developed?
A. By doing experiments.
B. By giving examples.
C. By analyzing causes.
D. By making comparisons.
14. What do digital audio books help children do?
A. Reduce their screen time.
B. Raise their interest in reading.
C. Develop their imagination.
D. Improve their listening skills.
15. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Audio Books — A Popular Choice Now
B. Audio Books — An Alternative to Paper Books
C. Audio Books — A New Source of Knowledge
D. Audio Books — A New Idea about Reading

A
2.根据BOOK IT! Parents, join us for our first-ever...in BOOK IT!
B
答案:4-7 BBCA
根据第一段中的"decided to spread some joy" "let's try and make this young lady's day"可知,Tony收到了陌生女子的短信,为了使这位女士开心,他回复了她的信息。
5.根据画线短语后面的"people falling in love with the amusing and heartwarming way it unfolded" "Since this all started we've had over $ 3,000 donated"可知,人们喜欢Tony 和孩子们与Syd的这种有趣而暖心的交流,纷纷向Tony捐款来帮助他患有白血病的儿子Kaizler。
All your help and support are greatly appreciated"可知,Tony很感激人们的帮助和支持。
many hands make light work"人多力
量大";where there is life, there is hope "留得青山在,不怕没柴烧";a friend in need a friend indeed"患难见真情"。
C
The trousers known as jeans were the product of a partnership between Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss"可知,这种被称为牛仔裤的裤子是雅各布•戴维斯和李维斯合作的产物,由此可知牛仔裤的出现是合作的结果,故选A。
The busy lifestyle leaves us little time to sit down and read a paper book"及第二段中的"An audio book…is an ideal way to 'read', books that you wanted to read for long but that lack of time did not permit you to read"可知,没有时间阅读的人最可能喜欢数字音频书。
That way they are familiar with the adventure of using their own imagination to paint their mental pictures of what they hear"可知,通过听音频书,孩子们可以

Students have the chance to study in their own time"以及后一句"Then there is more time left for hobbies or other activities"可以推断出选F项(在线学习高效是因为学生可以充分利用时间)。

第五处:him→me。
第八处:the→a。
commmunicate with"和……
第十处:what→how。
My Dream
Different people have different dreams. Since my childhood, I have been dreaming of becoming a doctor. When Tu Youyou was awarded the Nobel Prize for discovering an effective cure for malaria, I was greatly inspired by her to learn medicine. What's more, the courage Zhong Nanshan and other doctors have displayed hardened my resolve to study medicine to save people's lives. It is their wisdom and efforts that have saved tens of thousands of people. Though it is difficult to make my dream come true, nothing will prevent me from achieving it. I will study hard, which will provide a solid foundation for my future major in college.
