9 What time is it?
Teaching Objectives:
1. Study sentences (what time is it? It’s eleven o’clock. Is it twelve o’clock? Yes, it is.).
2. Study words (o’clock, ten, eleven, twelve).
Teaching Key points:
Words: o’clock, ten, eleven, twelve.
Phrases: ~o’clock.

Paper tokens, digital watch/clock, ball.
Period one
Step 1 Getting ready
1) T: (Hold a soft ball or soft object.) One! (Toss the ball to a student.)
2) Prompt the student to say two. And toss the ball to the next student who says Tree. Model if necessary.
3) Continue up to twelve.
4) Write the word o’clock on the board and have Ss repeat.
5) Now add o’clock after the numbers, e.g. one o’clock, two o’clock. Point to the numbers around a clock.
6) Using the soft Ball or object, toss it around as you and the Ss say the hours of the day.
7) T: what time is it? Ss: It’s one o’clock. Model if necessary.
Step 2 Using the book
1) T: Point to the watches in the first picture.) What are these? Ss: They’re watches. (Point to the clocks on the wall.) What are these? Ss: They’re clocks.
2) T: Let’s listen together.
3) Play the tape and have Ss follow along.
4) Play the tape again and have Ss repeat after each sentence.
5) T: Get into groups of three. One plays “Go g o”, one plays Tony and one plays the shopkeeper. Point out who the shopkeeper is in the picture.
6) Have Ss listen and speak their roles as the tape plays.
Step 3 Extension activity
Clap quickly a number of times and ask Ss: What time is it? Ss: answer according to the number lf claps.
e. g. For ten claps Ss answer :It’s ten o’clock.
Review the vocabulary in this manner. Then Ss take turns clapping while the class identifies the tine. Ss can then work in smaller groups or pairs.
Period two
Teaching Objectives:

2. Study words (one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve) Teaching Key Points:
Words: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve. Phrases: ~o’clock.

Picture Cards, Paper tokens, digital watch/clock.
Teaching Procedure:
Step1 V ocabularuy
1) Getting ready Hold up each picture card and say the tine. T: Now listen and repeat. Say each time again in random order.
2) Using the book
T: Open your books. Listen and repeat. Point to each picture as you say it. Play the tape and have Ss repeat each time ph rase. Point to the three o’clock picture.
T: What time is it?
Ss: It’s three o’clock.
Hold the book up and point to other time pictures and have Ss answer.
3) Extension activity
Have Ss create a graph by putting the letters a-f over the boxes on the page. Then on the left side of the page, they should put the number 1 next to the one o’clock box and the number 2 next to the seven o’clock box. Call out graph locators, e.g. b2. Ss should read across the graph to the b column and down to the second row and answer accordingly, e.g. eight o’clock. After the students models the activity, they can take turns calling out locators in pairs and small groups.
Step 2 Target
1) Getting ready Pass out picture cards. Have Ss hold them up. Pose question to them about their cards.
T: What time is it? Ss: It is six o’clock. Continue asking other Ss.
2) Using the book
Point to the first picture and model the dialog. Point to the second picture and model the dialog.
T: listen and repeat. Play the tape and pause after each sentence for Ss to repeat.
3) Extension activity Draw a clock on the board without the hands. Tell Ss to put their heads down on the desk so they cannot see what you’re drawing. Draw the hands in the clock, and then cover the whole drawing. When Ss look up,
T: asks what time is it?
Ss: can guess the time by saying .the student who guesses correctly then takes a turn to draw.
Period three

Teaching Procedure:
Step1 Practice 1
1) T: Now, listen to the tape.
2) Play the tape for number 1, then pause.
3) T: b is number1. Write the number 1 in the box.
4) Continue with the other three, pausing after each one.
Step 2 Practice 2
1) T: Now, listen and answer the questions.
2) Play the tape and have Ss answer questions.
3) Put Ss in small groups to ask and answer the questions.
Step 3 Song
1) T: Are you ready to learn a new song? Let’s listen first.
2) Play the tape and point to each phrase as it is sung.
3) Divide Ss into two groups. One group sings the questions and the other group sings the statements. Both groups do the Hey parts together.
4) Song Put one set of student cards in a bag. Ss stand in a circle and throw a ball or stuffed animal around the circle while they sing the song. When the song ends, the student left holding the object picks a card out lf the bag. The class asks what time is it? The student answers according to the card. Then the class starts the song over
again.
Step 4 Activity 1
1) T: Open your books. Connect the phrases with their matching clocks.
2) As Ss are connecting the phrases and clocks, circulate and check for accuracy.
3) Take a piece of paper and use a hole punch or scissors to cut out a series of holes. Cover the picture cards with the paper. Ask Ss what time is it? Ss look through the holes to guess the time and answer: It is (ten) o’clock.
Period four
Teaching Objectives:
1. Study: sound /a I / .
2. Study words (ride, bike, white, kite, rice, light).
Teaching Key Points:
Words: ride, bike, white, kite, rice, light.

Step 1 Activity 2
1) Copy two sets of the boxes from SB p.47, but only put one clock in each box. One set is for student A and one is for student B.
2) Ask for two volunteers.
3) Have s1 draw in the time on his/her student a clock. S1 leaves his /her student B box bank. 4) Have s2 draw in the time on his/her student B clock. S2 leaves his /her student B box bank. 5) T: Number2. say Number 2. What time is it? S1: Number2. What time is it?
6) S2 rea ds the time that he/she drew, e.g. it’s (five) clock.
7) S1 draws in five o’clock in his/her student B box.
8) T: Number1…say Number1. What time is it? S1: Number1. What time is it?
9) S1 reads the time that he/she drew, e.g. it’s (five) clock.
10) S1 draws in five o’clock in his/her student B box.
11) Put Ss in pairs, student A and student B.
Step 2 Activity3
1) Draw boxes and clocks as in Activity2.
2) Put Ss in pairs, student A and student B.
Step 3 Sounds and words
1) Have Ss look at the words on the page.
2) Make the sound, pointing to the spelling patterns.
3) T: Let’s listen to the tape.
4) Play the tape and have Ss point to each word as the tape says it.
5) T: Let’s listen again, and this time, repeat.
6) Have Ss repeat after the tape.
7) After enough practice, point to the pictures randomly and have Ss say the word.
8) Have Ss look at the clocks next to the lyrics.
9) Ask them what times are being illustrated.
10) T: Let’s listen to the chant.
11) Play the tape once.
12) T: Now, listen and point to the clocks.
13) Play the tape again and have Ss point to the corresponding clocks while listening.
14) T: OK. Let’s chant together.
15) Play the tape and have Ss chant along.
16) Again, have them point to the clocks as they chant the lyrics.
Writing on the blackboard:
