[示例] (2017·全国卷Ⅲ)·__17__In order to make a change, you need to decide why it’s important. Do you want to get up in time to have breakfast with your family, get in some exercise,or just be better prepared for your day?Once you are clear about your reasons, tell your family or roommates about the change you want to make.B.Find the right motivation.[解析] 本题空格在段首,需要填一个主旨句或一个承上启下句。

I should know better garage sales can be dangerous. We recently went to a sale and my wife found a new light fixture which she thought would look good in our bathroom. She got this fixture for 70 pounds. I knew as soon as she bought it that I was in trouble. When we got home,we found the base of the new fixture was of different size and shape and the old one would leave a mark on the wall when we took it off. That meant we had to paint the bathroom,so we went out to buy paint, brushes, rollers and special tape to make sure the paint lines between the walls and ceiling were perfectly straight. However, the new paint was a slightly different shade of green than the old paint and my wife decided we should have wood trim (木质边饰)instead of the paper border. We went out to buy wood trim and the nails to put it up with. It took several days to strip everything out of the bathroom, tape the walls and paint them, measure and cut the trim and fix it to the walls and put up the new light fixture. It looks very nice and so far has cost about 150 pounds. Now my wife is saying that in the newly painted bathroom in the slightly different shade of green, new towels would look nice.I know I should avoid going to garage sales in the future but they are interesting. Besides,my wife loves them and there are certain things you do just to keep peace in the household. We will probably keep going and probably keep finding things we never knew we needed. Ⅱ.阅读理解【说理议论类】Happiness can be described as a positive mood and a pleasant state of mind.According to a recent survey, sixty to seventy percent of Americans consider themselves to be moderately happy and one in twenty persons feels very unhappy.Psychologists have been studying the factors that contribute to happiness. It is not predictable, nor is a person in an apparently ideal situation necessarily happy. The ideal situation may have little to do with his actual feelings.A good education and income are usually considered necessary for happiness.Though both may contribute, they are only chief factors if the person is seriously undereducated or actually suffering from lack of physical needs. The rich are not likely to be happier than the middle-income group or even those with very low incomes.People with college education are somewhat happier than those who did not graduate from high school, and it is believed that this is mainly because they have more opportunities to control their lives.Yet people with a high income and a college education may be less happy than those with the same income and no college education.Poor health does not rule out happiness except for the severely disabled or those in pain.Learning to handle a health problem can contribute to happiness. Those who have good relationship with other family members are happier than those who live alone.Love has a closer relationship with happiness than any other factor. It should be noted that people quickly get used to what they have, and they are happiest when they feel they are increasing their level no matter where it stands at a given time.Children whose parents were happily married have happier childhoods, but are not necessarily happier adults. The best rule for happiness is to be able to develop AQ (Adversity Quotient that can be of great benefit when running into trouble),to have a personal involvement and commitment, and to develop self-confidence and self-esteem.1.It can be inferred from probably mean .A.ambition to defeat others in a severe competitionB.ability to overcome difficulty and get out of embarrassing situationC.methods of solving difficult problems and challenges in reached a stop,I stepped off and dragged my suitcase to begin the long journey home.A row of hedge (树篱) edged the driveway that climbed the hill to our house.Once I had turned off the highway to start the last lap of my journey,I always had a sense of relief to see the hedge because it meant that I was almost home.On that particular evening, the hedge had just come into view when I saw something gray moving along the top of the hedge, moving toward the house.Upon closer observation,I realized it was the top of my father’s head. Then I knew, each time I’d come home,he had stood behind the hedge, watching, until he knew I had arrived safely.I swallowed hard against the tears. He did care, after all.On later visits, that spot of gray became my watchtower.I could hardly wait until I was close enough to watch for its secret movement above the greenery.Upon reaching home,I would find my father sitting innocently in his chair.“So!My son,it’s you!”he’d say,his face lengthening into pretended surprise.I replied,“Yes,Dad,it’s me.I’m home.”5.What does the underlined word “grumbled” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?( )A.Admitted readily.B.Explained clearly.C.Agreed lamely.D.Spoke unhappily.6.What No way could I have sent her away. No way,not me anyway. Maybe someone had kicked her out of their car the night before. “We’re moving house.” “No space for her any more with the baby coming.” “We never really wanted her,but what could we have done? She was a present.” People find all sortsof excuses for abandoning an animal. And she was one of the most beautiful dogs I had ever seen.I called her Goldie. If I had known what was going to happen I would have given her a more creative name. She was so unsettled during those first few days. She hardly ate anything and had such an air of sadness about herself. There was nothing I could do to make her happy,it seemed. Heaven knows what had happened to her at her previous owner’s. But eventually at the end of the first week she calmed down. Always by my side, whether we were out on one of our long walks or sat by the fire. That’s why it was such a shock when she pulled away from me one day when we were outfor a walk. We were a long way from home, when she started barking and getting very restless. Eventually I couldn’t hold her any longer and she raced off down the road towards a farmhouse in the distance as fast as she could.By the time I reached the farm I was very tired and upset with Goldie. But when I saw her licking (舔) the four puppies (幼犬) I started to feel sympathy towards them. “We didn’t know what had happened to her,” said the woman at the door. “I took her for awalk one day, soon after the puppies were born, and she just disappeared.” “She must have tried to come back to them and got lost,” added a boy from behind her.I must admit I do miss Goldie, but I’ve got Nugget now,and she looks just like her mother. And I’ve learnt a good lesson:not to judge people.1.How did the author feel about Goldie when Goldie came to the house?( )A.Shocked.B.Sympathetic.C.Disappointed.D.Upset.2.In her first few days at the author’s house,Goldie .A.felt sadB.was angryC.ate a littleD.sat by the fire3.Goldie rushed off to a farmhouse one day because she .A.saw her puppiesB.heard familiar barkingC.wanted to leave the authorD.found her way to her previous home4.The passage is organized in order of .A.timeB.spaceC.importanceplexity( B )【科普知识类】In the crisis of global warming, green technology becomes a critical part in our development. With the increasing use of green technology by different countries, using green technology has become a new trend over the world.Green technology is a diverse range of products, services, and processes that apply renewable materials and energy sources, dramatically reducing the use of naturalresources, and significantly cutting wastes to minimize negative impact on the world. If green technology is said to be able to improve the environment,it does not mean that it creates no pollution or waste. Comparison shall be made between the green technology and the conventional technology to see if the green technology can reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and the release of harmful substances. One of the best-known examples of green technology would be the solar cell. A solarcell directly converts the energy in light into electrical energy. Generating electricity from solar energy means less consumption of fossil fuels, reducing pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Another simple invention that can be considered green is the reusable water bottle. Reducing plastic waste is great for the environment.Green technology is not able to improve our environment or solve the problems that we are facing, like global warming in short. What green technology brings us in the short term is inconvenience, high cost, low efficiency and so on. That’s why people start to criticize the government for keeping investing in the green technology, and relying on it for solving the problems that we are facing.Although there are some defects of green technology, everything done should have both positive impacts and negative impacts. Since we are still at a starting stage of developing green technology now, problems like global warming and energy crisis cannot be solved within one or two years. It really requires our determination and effort in improving the situation. Green technology will definitely be the solution that helps us solve those problems and improve our environment.pared to the conventional technology, the green technology .A.reduces the cost of livingB.causes no pollutionC.is more environmentally friendlyD.is more widely used6.According to the passage, the solar cell .A.helps solve both energy crisis and environmental problems B.produces more power than other methodsC.is as popular as the reusable water bottleD.proves that green technology is very popular7.In the last paragraph, the underlined word “defects” can be replaced by “ ”.A.shortcomingsB.applicationsC.valuesD.discoveries8.According to the passage, the author believes that the green technology .A.is more important than other technologiesB.has a hopeful futureC.is developing fast worldwideD.has improved our environment greatly。

the fast-food industry as studies suggest they contribute to the rising overweight in the United States.“We’ve basically discovered that kids who are going to a school that is near a fast-food burned,it’s not only painful; it’s bad for your body.Burned skin cannot keep the bacteria out,so infections (感染)are common.Doctors often wrap burns in bandages for protection, but a recent study shows that a new kind of bandage can actually fight infection.Toby Jenkins,a scientist in England, worked on the study.Jenkins and his colleagues developed a material that contains tiny capsules (胶囊).To a bacterium, these capsules look like cells just waiting to be damaged. The bacteria attack the cells by releasing poisons. But when the bacteria attack the capsules, the capsules fight back—by releasing antibiotics (抗生素)that knock out any nearby bacteria. The material was tested on two types of harmful bacteria. When researchers placed pieces of the new material in a dish with the bacteria, the bacteria barely grew at all, which is unusual. This observation led the researchers to believe that the material really works. The scientists want the bandages to work specifically against dangerous bacteria,so they also tested the material on a harmless type of E.coli bacteria. When the material was placed in a dish with E.coli, the bacteria grew quickly—showing that it didn’t fool the harmless bacteria. This early experiment shows that the material can selectively kill dangerous bacteria, but it’s too early to start using the material in hospitals.“This is a nice approach and they’ve shown in principle that it works,” said Christopher Batich,a biomedical engineer in the US,who did not work on the study. While he’s excited about the results,he added that the real world is more complicated than this experiment.“You’d have to work with real bacteria and real wounds to see if it makes a difference,” he said.Jenkins and his colleagues are back at work improving the material. In the not-so-distant future, this kind of antibacterial bandage may move from the laboratory to the hospital bed—and give burned victims a fighting chance against infection.1.According to the passage, the capsules’ My wife and I wanted to giveJames the best education, but that meant we’d have to change our jobs and spend less timewith our kid. I asked myself,“Would this trade-off be worth it?” When I look at theresearch on child development,I think it might not. Where our kids go to school mightmatter less than most American parents think.Social scientists have long tried to determine why some children grow up to be successful. In a 2001 study,Greg Duncan,a professor of education at the University of California, measured the influence that the people in a child’s life have on how well thechild does in school. Duncan and his team found almost no relationship between how students did on the test and whom they sat beside in class, whom they hung out with after school and who lived in their block. The only meaningful link they found was between siblings (兄弟姐妹) and twins in particular. For a long time, scholars thought that a family’s income heavily affected how well kids did in life. But that might not be the case. When Susan Mayer at the University of Chicago looked at the relationship between family income and lifetime achievement, she ran a seriesof experiments to measure it,finding such outcomes weren’t caused by income. She arguedthat the things that make a difference are relatively inexpensive:the number of books a kid has or how often his family goes to museums.Lareau, another scholar began one of the most in-depth observations of Americanparenting. He concluded that success is much more related to the amount of time parentsspend with their children. He said “Many parents I interviewed are anxious about their children’s future. But they have exaggerated (夸大) the sense of the risks involved ifthey don’t give their children ‘the best’ of everything.”So at last,we decided to leave things as they were.
