AMany people think of narcisism(自恋)as a kind of personality traits(特质), usually with a derogatory(贬义的)sense, but it can also be a confident positive attitude. Some studies, published in 2004 in the journal Personality Processes and Individual Differences, looked at some benefits of narcissism. Hundreds of people participated. Results showed that narcissists tended to be less depressed, lonely and anxious, and reported greater well-being than people who scored low on narcissism. High narcissists may be socially unconcerned, but that is no reason for them not to be psychologically healthy. To use a far-fetched(牵强的)metaphor, the mind of a narcissist is like an SUV. It is great to be in the driving seat, but other drivers must be careful not to hit it.A 2010 study published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, found that female college students who were slightly narcissistic were less worried about having their bodies on view while exercising in public spaces than students who weren’t narcissistic.A 2012 study published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science, showed that narcissism was more beneficial to younger people. For the study, 368 college students and 439 of their family members filled out surveys on narcissism, life satisfaction, and personality traits. “Our findings suggest that the link between narcissism and life satisfacti on is greater for adolescents and young adults than for adults,” the authors wrote. Specifically, participants who were younger than 26 and displayed certain types of narcissism reported higher life satisfaction and well-being.Narcissists tend to make great first impressions, but those positive impressions change quickly. Two studies published in the journal Personality and Social Psychology, found that narcissistic college students were at first treated as agreeable and well-adjusted by their peers, but interestingly, after a few weeks, those impressions became more negative: Narcissists were treated as less agreeable and well-adjusted than other students.Leaders are often narcissists according to some studies, because to lead a company, you have to be confident in your decision-making skills. These decisions also need to be smart and creative, especially in our current world where there are a million different companies producing a million different ideas. A good leader with somewhat narcissistic tendencies can help his company or organization stand out from the crowd.1. According to the passage, narcissistic people can sometimes be ________.A. more willing to drive an SUVB. more willing to be alone than other peopleC. physically healthier than other peopleD. psychologically healthier than other people2. During exercise female narcissistic college students might ________.A. worry about their figuresB. care about other students’figuresC. not attend sports activitiesD. not care what other students think3. According to the 2012 study, the narcissistic adolescents and young adults tend to ________.A. be more satisfied with life than their less narcissistic peersB. be more difficult for their peers to get along withC. have bad relationships with family membersD. have less chance to get life satisfaction than adults4. What is the main idea of the passage?A. Narcissism is seen as an important element of a healthy mind.B. Proper narcissism is good for personal development.C. Proper narcissism seems to protect against social anxiety.D. Narcissism makes people less dependent on relationships with others.BUnderstanding what teens are talking about has been a great problem for parents and teachers for ages. One high school teacher in Massachusetts found a smart solution.James Callahan of Lowell High School created a spreadsheet(电子表格)of all the spoken terms students have used along with his attempt to define them, and people on social media are having a field day. “I often overhear students i n the hallways or classrooms using words or slang terms in their personal conversations,” Callahan told reporters. “In order to understand them better and form a relationship with them on a personal level, I started asking them what certain words meant.”He even posted online a photo of a four-page document titled “Callahan’s Generation Z Dictionary”. In the left column, he typed out vocabularies like “sis” and “snack”. In the right column, he attempts to define each vocabulary using a formal interpretation of what the students say. For example, “secure(d)the bag” translates loosely into “money received”.Some people applauded the professor’s interest in teenage culture. “The typical teacher-student relationship involves a rigid power structure, but in my experience, I have found that students are more engaged and perform better if I am able to reach where they are,” Callahan said. Some students say Callahan showed the document in class so that the class could help him update the definitions of “bops” and “jams”. “Mr. Callahan asked if any enjoyable song is a ‘bop’and someone clarified, saying that the song has to be modern with the element of dancing,” one of his students said. “Mr. Callahan asked if an old song or a rock & roll piece can be a ‘bop’ to which a student answered, matter-of-factly: ‘No. That is a jam.’”Surprised at and excited about the fact that the dictionary went viral online, Callahan said the unofficial guide to teenage breaks up the lesson, gets the students involved and provides them wi th some ownership of the dictionary. “Language is so flexible, and every generation creates their own vocabulary bank of slang. The students created it and I am sort of just the recorder!”5. Why did Callahan create “Callahan’s Generation Z Dictionary”?A. To better connect with students.B. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage.ASusan was a well-respected journalist at the Palm Beach Post, happily married with three young children, when she learned at the age of 44 that she had ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS is a gradually weakening motor neuron(神经元) disease. There is no cure and most people die of respiratory failure (呼吸衰竭) within three to five years.Susan faced a choice about how to live the rest of her life --- the same choice each of us faces every morning. Susan chose to embrace life, to focus on what she could do, and to live with joy as she so inspirationally shares in her new book, Until I say Good-Bye: My Year of Living with Joy.Susan prioritized(优先次序). She focused on doing the things she could still do before her disease eliminated(排除) those options. She traveled to the Arctic to see the Northern Lights and planned a trip with each of her two older children. The most poignant moment in the book may be when she takes her 14-year-old to New York, where they make a trip to a bridal shop (婚纱店). Susan asks her daughter to try on wedding dresses, knowing she won’t be there when she gets married.Susan writes about going for a swim in her pool, and while floating on her stomach, she realized she no longer has the strength to lift her head. After her friends pullher to safety, she realizes she can no longer swim. “So how shall I handle it? Pine for (怀念) something I can no longer do? Something I adored? No,” She writes. “For that is the path to the loony bin (疯人院). To want something you can never have.”Time is our most precious and scarcest resource. Instead of worrying about what you can no longer do, focus on what can do to add meaning and joy to your life. And don’t wait to do what you have always wanted to do. Because, as we all know, tomorrow is promised to nobody. We do have a choice, however, in how we live our lives as we age. Choose life.16. With regard to ALS, we can learn that ______.A. Dequina is already awake. Holding a flashlight and a bucket, he is walking in the pre-dawn darkness along the shore of Old Poblacion Beach in the town of Maitum, Sarangani, in the far south of the Philippines.A few minutes later, he spots a patch of sand that appears to have been disturbed by a turtle. Dequina studies the area carefully, figuring out where the eggs have been buried, and then starts digging slowly. After clearing away several centimetersof sand, he uncovers a large group of eggs, roughly the size of ping-pong balls. He picks them up and puts them in the bucket.Dequina carries the eggs to his hatchery (孵卵所), some 50 meters away from the seashore. The hatchery is really just a sandy patch of land under the coconut trees enclosed by a black fence. It is here that he buries the turtle eggs he has collected. Today, Dequina scoops (掘) a hole, puts the eggs in it, and covers them with sand. After 45 to 70 days, the eggs will hatch. Dequina will then carry the hatchlings to the shore, and release them into the sea, He admits feeling sorrow as he sets the hatchlings free --- most are hunted down by natural predators, and just one percent survive to adulthood.According to the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), eight species of sea turtles face extinction, including four that come to the shores of Sarangani to lay their eggs --- the Hawksbill, Olive Ridley, Loggerhead and Green Turtles. After learning about their plight (困境), Dequina attended a DENR training session on turtle conservation and decided to take action. He helped the local government to set up the Pawikan Nesting Sanctuary next to his house in 2003.The hatchery drew the attention of the locals. “They started to change their attitudes towards sea turtles,”52-year-old Dequina says. “If they see turtle eggs, they will either bring them to me or inform me of the nesting places.”Over the past ten years, more than 3,000 hatchlings have been released to the ocean.26. Dequina walks along the shore to ______.A. release small turtles.B. bury turtle eggs deeper.C. look for newly laid turtle eggs.D. clear away trash from the seaside.27. When Dequina finds turtle eggs along the shore, he will ______.A. put them into the sea instantly.B. just bury them.C. pick them up and put them in the bucket.D. take them and go to his house.28. Dequina has worked for the hatchery for six years.C. The hatchery is far from Dequina’s house.D. The hatchery mainly protects injured turtles.SECTION C (10 marks)Directions: Read the following passage. Write your answers on your answer sheet. In Britain and other countries, young people usually take a “gap year”, a year off between high school and college. This idea never gained a big following in the United States. Recent news reports have suggested that interest may be growing, though there are no official numbers.Charles Deacon, the dean of admissions estimates that in the current first-year class of one thousand six hundred students, only twenty-five percent decided to take a year off. He says this number has not changed much over the years. He says the most common reasons to have a chance to travel, but international students may take a gap year to meet requirements at home for military duty. Some high school graduates see a year off as a chance to recover after twelve years of required education. But it can also give students a chance to explore their interest. Many colleges and universities support gap-year projects by permitting students to delay their admission. Experts say students can grow emotionally and intellectually as they work at something they enjoy. The Harvard admissions office has an essay on its Website called “Time Out or Burn Out for the Next Generation”. It pra ises the idea of taking time off to step back, think and enjoy gaining life experience outside the pressure of studies. Of course, a gap year is not for everyone. Students might miss their friends who go on directly to college. And parents might worry that their children will decide not to go to college once they take time off. Another concern is money. A year off, away from home, can be costly.Holly Bull is the president of the Center for Interim Programs. Her company specializes in helping students plan their gap year. She notes that several books have been written about this subject. And she points out that many gap-year programs cost far less than a year of college.31. 综上所述,椭圆C 1的方程为x 232+y 216=1. 20.(1)证明由题意知AA 1⊥平面ABC ,BB 1⊥平面ABC ,CC 1⊥平面ABC ,∴AA 1∥BB 1∥CC 1,如图,取A 1B 1中点F ,连接EF ,FC 1,∵E 为AB 1中点,∴EF 綊12A 1A , ∵AA 1=4,CC 1=2,∴CC 1綊12A 1A , ∴EF 綊CC 1,∴四边形EFC 1C 为平行四边形,∴CE ∥C 1F .∵CE ⊄平面A 1B 1C 1,C 1F ⊂平面A 1B 1C 1,∴CE ∥平面A 1B 1C 1.(2)解 由题意知,AB ⊥BC ,又BB 1⊥平面ABC ,∴BB 1⊥AB ,BB 1⊥BC ,分别以BA ,BC ,BB 1所在直线为x 轴,y 轴,z 轴建立如图所示的空间直角坐标系. 则A (2,0,0),C (0,2,0),B 1(0,0,4),C 1(0,2,2),∴A C →=(-2,2,0),CC 1→=(0,0,2),AB 1→=(-2,0,4),B 1C 1→=(0,2,-2). 设平面ACC 1的法向量为m =(x 1,y 1,z 1),则m ·A C →=0,m ·CC 1→=0,∴⎩⎪⎨⎪⎧-2x 1+2y 1=0,2z 1=0, 令x 1=1, 得m =(1,1,0),设平面AB 1C 1的法向量为n =(x 2,y 2,z 2),则n ·AB 1→=0,n ·B 1C 1→=0,∴⎩⎪⎨⎪⎧ -2x 2+4z 2=0,2y 2-2z 2=0, 令z 2=1,得⎩⎪⎨⎪⎧x 2=2,y 2=1. ∴n =(2,1,1),∴cos 〈m ,n 〉=m·n |m ||n |=32. 综上可知,切线l 在x 轴上截距的取值范围是(-∞,0)∪[22+3,+∞). 22.(1)解 由⎩⎨⎧ c a =22,4a 2+2b 2=1,a 2=b 2+c 2得⎩⎪⎨⎪⎧ a 2=8,b 2=4.所以x 28+y 24=1.当直线AB 的斜率存在时,设l AB :y =kx +m ,A (x 1,y 1),B (x 2,y 2).由⎩⎪⎨⎪⎧y =kx +m ,x 2+2y 2=8⇒(1+2k 2)x 2+4kmx +2m 2-8=0, 所以x 1+x 2=-4km 1+2k 2,x 1x 2=2m 2-81+2k 2. y 1y 2=(kx 1+m )(kx 2+m )=k 2·2m 2-81+2k 2+km ·-4km 1+2k 2+m 2=m 2-8k 21+2k 2. 因为k OA ·k OB =-b 2a 2⇒y 1x 1·y 2x 2=-12. 所以m 2-8k 21+2k 2=-12·2m 2-81+2k 2⇒m 2=4k 2+2. O A →·O B →=x 1x 2+y 1y 2=2m 2-81+2k 2+m 2-8k 21+2k 2 =4k 2-22k 2+1=2-42k 2+1, 所以-2≤O A →·O B →<2,当k =0时,O A →·O B →=-2,当k 不存在,即AB ⊥x 轴时,O A →·O B →=2,所以O A →·O B →的取值范围是[-2,2].(2)证明 由题意知S 四边形ABCD =4S △AOB ,因为S △AOB =12·1+k 2 ·(x 1+x 2)2-4x 1x 2·|m |1+k 2=24k 2+21+2k 2=2 2. 所以S 四边形ABCD =82为定值.。

After clearing away several centimeters of sand, he uncovers a large group of eggs, roughly the size of ping-pong balls. It praises the idea of taking time off to step back, think and enjoy gaining life experience outside the pressure of studies. Of course, a gap year is not for everyone. Students might miss their friends who go on directly to college. And parents might worry that their children will decide not to go to college once they take time off. Another concern is money.A year off, away from home, can be costly.Holly Bull is the president of the Center for Interim Programs. Her company specializes in helping students plan their gap year. She notes that several books have been written about this subject. And she points out that many gap-year progra ms cost far less than a year of college.31.
