Consult product labeling, Pneumatic Division catalogs or the instruction sheets supplied for maximum pressure ratings.2.3. Temperature Rating: Never exceed the temperature rating of a product. Excessive heat can shorten the life expectancy of a product and result in complete product failure.2.4. Environment: Many environmental conditions can affect the integrity and suitability of a product for a given application. Pneumatic Division products are designed for use in general purpose industrial applications. If these products are to be used in unusual circumstances such as direct sunlight and/or corrosive or caustic environments, such use can shorten the useful life and lead to premature failure of a product.2.5. Lubrication and Compressor Carryover: Some modern synthetic oils can and will attack nitrile seals. If there is any possibility of synthetic oils or greases migrating into the pneumatic components check for compatibility with the seal materials used. Consult the factory or product literature for materials of construction.2.6. Polycarbonate Bowls and Sight Glasses: To avoid potential polycarbonate bowl failures:• Do not locate polycarbonate bowls or sight glasses in areas where they could be subject to direct sunlight, impact blow, or temperatures outside of the rated range.• Do not expose or clean polycarbonate bowls with detergents, chlorinated hydro-carbons, keytones, esters or certain alcohols.• Do not use polycarbonate bowls or sight glasses in air systems where compressors are lubricated with fire resistant fluids such as phosphate ester and di-ester lubricants.!PDNSG-1Pneumatic Division Safety GuideISSUED: August 1 , 2006Supersedes: June 1, 2006Pneumatic Division Safety Guide2.7. Safety GuideWelding Hose Products Designed, Manufactured and Tested for SafetyA safe workplace begins with quality equipment – and when it comes to welding equipment, that means choosing hose products that meet or exceed industry safety standards. Parker welding hose and fitted hose assemblies meet or exceed all industry requirements as well as rigorous internal standards. Designed, manufactured and tested in America, the Parker product offering provides robust performance and outstanding marketing, sales and technical support.In-House Capabilities Provide Maximum Quality ControlFrom design to production, Parker’s many decades of hose engineering and manufacturing expertise ensure weldinghose products that meet needs and exceed expectations.Available When and Where Needed Parker inventories an extensive array of popular grades, sizes and lengths, supplemented by impressive customization capabilities, suchas special branding, fittings, lengths and packaging. Quick reaction times are standard for unanticipated sales opportunities and unexpected stock-outs. Quality, Service and Safety –the Parker PromiseSome welding hoses feature a soft, tacky cover, the result of materialsor production methods that minimizemanufacturing costs at the expenseof quality. Some welding hosemanufacturers close the door whenthe sale is completed, offering minimalpost-delivery support. But Parker provides quality, serviceand safety – a value-added packagethat no other welding hose suppliercan match. Throughout the industry, experienced welders trust Parkerto provide welding hoses and fittedhose assemblies that can do thejob – safely and effectively. Parkercontinues to honor that trust. All manufacturing processesoccur in Parker facilities:• specifying performance criteria• creating hose designs• specifying rubber formulations• mixing rubber compounds• d etermining appropriate brassfittings and componentry• manufacturing components• fitted hose assembly fabricationParker then rigorously tests theproducts to ensure they meetperformance requirementsand industry standards beforeleaving the factory.Welding Hose ApplicationsThe oxygen-fuel gas welding process, which produces flame at the tip ofa welding torch, is one of the most widely used welding processes. It remains popular because it is portable, versatile and relatively inexpensive. Common fuel gases include acetylene, hydrogen, natural gas, propane and propylene. The fuel gas provides the volatility and the oxygen enhances the temperature of the flame. These gases are transferred by specially designed hoses from a source – usually a tank or a manifold – to a welding torch or other apparatus. Regulators safely control pressure of the gases through the hose to the torch, where the gases are combined in specific proportions inside a mixing chamber.Oxygen-fuel gas welding is widely used for maintenance and repair applications such as bending, brazing, cutting, fabricating, gouging, joining, piercing, pre-heating, post-heating,severing, soldering, straightening, surfacing and trimming. Typicalindustries include construction, plant maintenance, foundries, manufacturing, maritime, mining,salvage/scrap and steel mills.Welding hose is also incorporated inconsumer/retail welding kits.Arc welding is a process that doesnot require oxygen or fuel gas. This process produces heat viaelectricity, which “arcs” (jumps)from the electrode in the torch to theweld piece. Arc welding frequentlyincorporates a shield gas (an inert/noble gas, such as argon) to “shield”the weld pool from airbornecontaminants. Some arc weldingequipment – such as automatic ormechanized applications – employswater-cooled torches. Consequently, many arc-welding systems requirehoses to convey the shield gases and/or water.Combination welding/cuttingequipment frequently providesoxygen-fuel gas capabilities combinedwith a plasma welding apparatus, where high electrical output createsan extreme amount of concentratedozone. This application frequentlyrequires abundant ventilation andGrade T single line welding hose toconvey the premium fuel gas andresist the extreme amounts of ozone(see Series 7141 / Series 7142 Grade Twelding hose).Parker has a complete industrialhose offering for welding andcomplementary applications.Fuel GasUse of any fuel gas other thanacetylene requires the use of Grade T hose. Due to safety concerns, CGA publicationsE-1 and SB-11 recommend the exclusive use of Grade T welding hose for all oxygen-fuel gas welding applications.Note: CGA recommends the exclusive use of Grade T welding hoseHoses used for welding service must meet industry standards that require special designs, materials and testing to safely convey combustible gases. The most commonly recognized welding hose standard in North America is jointly prepared by the Association for Rubber Products Manufacturers Association (ARPM) and the Compressed Gas Association (CGA). The standard is named ARPM IP-7, and was written for hose used with oxygen-fuel gas equipment for cutting, welding or other allied processes. The IP-7 standard categorizes welding hoses into three grades and four types:Oil ResistanceWhen exposed to an oilyenvironment, the cover of Grade R hose may become soft and tacky, leading to separation of the hose cover from the reinforcement, or excessive wear of the cover. Both of these conditions may lead to premature hose failure and/or decreased service life.• G rade T hose providesresistance to oil, both outer cover and internal tube • G rade RM hose provides resistance to oil, outer cover only • G rade R hose does not provide resistance to oilWelding Hose StandardsFlame ResistanceFlame-resistant welding hose will not be consumed and will self-extinguish within a specified period of time. Flame resistance provides significant safety advantages when subjected to adverse conditions such as flashbacks, hot slag or inadvertent exposure to flame.• G rade T hose providesresistance to flame, both outer cover and internal tube • G rade RM hose provides resistance to flame, outer cover only • G rade R hose does not provide resistance to flameFitted Hose AssembliesParker fitted hose assemblies meet the requirements of CGApublication E-1, “Welding and Cutting Equipment, Standard Connections for Regulator Outlets, Torches and Fitted Hose.”Compressed Gas Association – CGA ()E-1 Standard Connections for Regulator Outlets, Torches andFitted Hoses for Welding and Cutting Equipment SB-11Use of Rubber Welding HoseAssociation for Rubber Products Manufacturers – ARPM (https://)IP-7 Standard for Rubber Welding Hose IP-11-5 Guide for Use, Maintenance and Inspection of Welding Hose American National Standards Institute ()ANSI Z49.1 - Safety in Welding, Cutting, and Allied Processes* Including: acetylene, hydrogen, natural gas, propane and propyleneSafety Precautions in the Use of Rubber Welding HoseDO NOT• Abrade the cover of the hose • B end, kink or pinch the hose to shut off the flow of gas • D rag the hose over sharp edges or hot metal • E xpose the hose to flame, oil or sparks• Gouge the cover of the hose • H ang or pull the hose by the attached torch • L eave hoses pressurized when not in use • P ull equipment by using the hose as a tether• Recouple the hose ends • R epair the hose or hoseassemblies by using splicers, tape, or any other method • Reuse damaged hose • S train/stress the hose/fitting interface • U se adjustable clamps or bands to attach fittings to the hose (use permanently crimped ferrules)• U se or store hose in an area with inadequate ventilation • Use solvent to clean the hose • U se acetylene at any pressure above 15 psi • U se other fuel gases at any pressure above 40 psi • U se Grades R or RM hose with any fuel gas other than acetyleneDO• B low out residue from the interior of the hose prior to each use • E nsure that fittings arewrench-tight and leak-free prior to each use • E stablish a regular and systematic welding hosepreventative maintenance and replace-ment program • I nspect the entire length of the hose prior to each use• Perform periodic leak tests • P urge hoses of gas in a well- ventilated area when not in use for thirty minutes or longer • P urge hoses of gas by shuttingoff gas first at the torch and then at the regulator or supply source • R emove dirt and oil from the cover of the hose prior to each use (do not use solvent)• U se only fittings that are inaccordance with the Compressed Gas Association publication E-1• U se only ferrules to permanently secure fittings onto the hose • U se only ferrules that are a minimum of one inch long • G rade T hose is preferred for all fuel gases including actyleneEven with proper selection and instal-lation, hose life may be significantly re-duced without a continuing maintenance program. The severity of the application, risk potential from a possible hose failure, and experience with any hose failures in the application or in similar applications, should help determine the frequency of the inspection and the replacement of products. The safe use of welding hose requires the knowledge of the various hose grades, types, and attributes, including their com-patibility with various fuel gases and applications; the discipline to institute a comprehensive and thorough training, safety and maintenance program; and the awareness to seek, recognize and eliminate unsafe practices. For further information refer to:PERFORM FREQUENT WELDING HOSE INSPECTIONSREPLACE AND DISCARD DAMAGED HOSE OR HOSE ASSEMBLIESCompressed Gas Association – CGA ()E-1 Standard Connectionsfor Regulator Outlets, Torches and Fitted Hoses for Welding and Cutting Equipment SB-11 Use of RubberWelding HoseAssociation for Rubber Products Manufacturers – ARPM (https://)IP-7 Standard for RubberWelding Hose IP-11-5 G uide for Use,Maintenance and Inspection of Welding HoseBUL.4480-B218 12/2022© 2022 Parker Hannifin Corporation Your complete source for quality tube fittings, hose & hose fittings, brass & composite fittings, quick-disconnect couplings, valves, and assembly tools, locally available from a worldwide network of authorized distributors.Fittings:Available in inch and metric sizes covering SAE, BSP, DIN, GAZ, JIS, and ISO thread configurations, manufactured from steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminum, nylon, and thermoplastic.Hose, Tubing, and Bundles:Available in a wide variety of sizes and materials including rubber, wire-reinforced, thermoplastic, hybrid and custom compounds.Worldwide Availability:Parker operates Fluid Connectors manufacturing locations and sales offices throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.For information, call toll-free:1-800-C-PARKER (1-800-272-7537)Parker Fluid Connectors GroupNorth American Divisions & Distribution Service CentersNorth American DivisionsFluid System Connectors Division Otsego, MIphone 269 694 9411fax 269 694 4614Hose Products Division Wickliffe, OHphone 440 943 5700fax 440 943 3129Parflex Division Ravenna, OHphone 330 296 2871fax 330 296 8433Quick Coupling Division Minneapolis, MNphone 763 544 7781fax 763 544 3418Tube Fittings Division Columbus, OHphone 614 279 7070fax 614 279 7685Distribution Service CentersBuena Park, CAphone 714 522 8840fax 714 994 1183Louisville, KYphone 502 937 1322fax 502 937 4180Portland, ORphone 503 283 1020fax 503 283 2201Toledo, OHphone 419 878 7000fax 419 878 7001fax 419 878 7420 (FCG Kit Operations)Canada Milton, ONTphone 905 693 3000fax 905 876 1958(Contact Milton for other Service Center locations.)Parker Hannifin Corporation Hose Products Division 30240 Lakeland Blvd.Wickliffe, OH 44092phone 440 943 5700fax 440 943 **************************.com。
