An advertisement is displayed on a school bus for a district in Thornton, Colorado. In 11 states across the country, school buses are now doing more than just transporting students. They are also serving as rolling billboards. These school buses carry advertisements on the outside. Restaurants, insurance companies, banks, and other businesses pay for the ads, hoping to attractmorecustomers. And it ’s a way for the schools to make money as they face deep budget(预算) cuts.
“We ’ve seen a lot of income generated by the ads, ” Devra Ashyby told Time for Kids (TFK) . She is the spokesperson for School District 11 in Colorado Speings, Colorado, She is also the mother of a third grader. “With the budget cuts we have experienced, we look at any way that can bring money into the schools. ”Last year, District 11 made more than $15,000 from school-bus ads.
School districts need to ensure that the ads are appropriate for kids, according to Michael Beauchamp, chief executive officer Alpha Media. Parents are divided on the issue. “I don ’t think the ads are a distraction (分心), ” said Glemn Hersling of River Vale, New Jersey. His son is in second grade. “And if they can bring in money for the schools and help save some programs, that’s fantastic. ”

SAT stands for Scholastic Aptitude Test. The majority of colleges require it as part of their admissions process. More than two million students each year take this three-hour standardized test, which supposedly measures verbal and mathematical reasoning. Although colleges look at applicants’materials—including theirGPA, class ranking and special talents—SAT scores play a large role too. Many colleges will only accept students who attain a certain score for math and reading.
I believe that SAT tests should not be the most important criteria(标准) for acceptance into a school. Studies have shown that females scored lower on the SAT than males, but in fact women have better grades in high school and college. This shows that these tests do not mecessarily predict success in college. In fact, there is much debate on whether scores should be the main factor colleges use to choose their freshmen.
Another reason SAT tests are not a convincing predictor of academic success is that they are not in favor of minorities. The National Center for Fair and Open Testing or Fair Test, believes that standardized tests like the SAT assume all test takers have backgrouds similar to white, middle-class students. This is certainly not the case. Fair Test seeks for equal opportunities for all.
Most successful students must work very hard in high school to earn the best grades they can. Students who get extra help, study and try their best are the ones who tend to get good grades. Therefore, a better way to predict students’ college performance is by looking at their previous achievementsof the four years of high school rather than one test, they will more accurately determine how well students will perform in college.
29.Why does the author mention women in the second paragraph?
A.To show women are not good test takers.
B.To give a strong support to the main idea.
C.To prove women are good at studying.
D.To explain women are losing advantages.
30.What causes more than two million students each year to take the SAT?
A.It is of great benefit to the American Whites.
B.It provides equal opportunities to all the Americans.
C.It is used to be a criterion for admission to the college.
D.It can show each taker’s real academic ability.
31.What is suggested on college admission?
A.Colleges should focus on the accomplishments of high school.
B.Colleges should think of the future of the students in a long run.
C.Colleges should consider the students’ attitude toward the study.
D.Colleges should take extracurricular(课外的) activities into consideration.
32.Which of the following shows the structure of the text?
