Getting out of bed into the darkness, the man searches around his room with strange intentions. Soon, he finds what he is looking for. Grasping a pencil, he begins drawing on a used newspaper. He bends over his work for an hour as a beautiful image appears. But the artist seems to be hardly conscious.
Lee Hadwin, by day a nurse, at night is a sleepwalking artist who produces strange and fantastic works of art, which he has no memory of drawing when he wakes the next morning. Hadwin says he is completely confused about his nighttime talent, especially as in the daytime, he shows no interest or ability in art at all.
Hadwin, 33, from North Wales, is now being investigated by the Edinburgh Sleep Centre. "It is horrible," he says, "I feel exhausted when I wake up. It is only in the following days that I'm able to look at what I've produced and appreciate it. At first, I just feel terrible. Now I am receiving therapy(治疗) in an attempt to discover what causes my subconscious self to draw. I want to get to the root of it."
An incredible video of Hadwin at work in a sleepwalker's state has already become a hit after it was shown on the Internet. The video shows Hadwin drawing at great speed, but not answering his name being called out by witnesses. Major galleries have also been asking for examples of his work.
Hoping to develop the strange ability, Hadwin started leaving artist's materials out when he went to bed. Although he leaves colored paints and pencils out, he has never drawn in color. Hadwin said, "Each morning I wake up and see a newly-created piece of art lying beside my bed, I breathe a sigh of relief that my gift still belongs to me." 41. Honesty comes in many forms. First there’s self-honesty. Is what people see the real article or do you appear through smoke and mirrors?
I find that if I try to be something I’m not, I feel unsure of myself and take out a part from my PBA(personal bank account).I love how the singer Judy Garland put it. “Always be a first-class version(版本)of yourself, instead of a second-class version of somebody else.”
Then there’s honesty in our actions. Are you honest at school, with your parents, and with your boss? If you’ve ever been dishonest, I think we all have, try being honest, and notice how whole it makes you feel. Remember, you can’t do wrong and feel right. This following story by Jeff is a good example of that.
In my second year of study, there were three kids in my math class who didn’t do well. I was really good at it. I would charge them three dol lars for each test that I helped them pass. I’d write on a little piece of paper all the right answers, and hand them off.
At first I felt like I was making money, kind of a nice job. I wasn’t thinking about how it could hurt all of us. After a while I realized I shouldn’t do that anymore, because I wasn’t really helping them. They weren’t learning anything, and it would only get harder down the road. Cheating certainly wasn’t helping me.
It takes courage to be honest when people all around you are getting away with cheating on tests, lying to their parents, and stealing at work. But remember, every act of honesty is a deposit(储蓄) into your PBA and will build strength.
45.The underlined part “appear through smoke and mirrors” in the first paragraph means
______.
A. be honest
B. be unreal
C. become clear
D. come from an imagined world
46.Which of the following can best explain Judy Garland’s words?
A. Be your true self rather than follow others.
B. Don’t copy others or you can’t be the first class.
C. Make efforts to be the first instead of the second.
D. Don’t learn from others unless they’re excellent.
47.What does the author expect to show by Jeff’s story?
A.Honesty can be of great help.
B.A bad thing can be turned into a good one.
C. Helping others cheat can do good to nobody.
D. One should realize the wrong in his bad deeds.
48.In the last paragraph the author mainly wants to express_______.
A. one must be brave to be honest
B. it’s difficult to be honest when others are not
C. one should be honest when making a deposit
D. honesty in one’s actions can help him in the future
C

Researchers have developed new software using smartphones' GPS and imaging abilities that determine the exact location of distant objects as well as monitor the speed and direction of moving objects. The software could eventually allow smartphone-armed soldiers to target the location of their enemies. On the home front, the software could be used by everyone, including golfers judging distance to the green and biologists documenting the location of a rare animal without disturbing it.
"The great advantage of a smartphone is that it provides so many tools in a single, readily available, relatively inexpensive package," said Wang Qia, a doctoral student who led the development of the software. "For example, on the battlefield, a soldier needs a rangefinder, compass, GPS and other tools to get information before calling in an air strike. With our software, the soldier can have all those instruments in one device that can be purchased off the shelf. When that soldier returns from war, she can use the same software to protect her family by clocking a speeder near her children's school and catching the criminal on video." Wang and his colleagues developed their software to locate and track: Targets of known size—When the size of a target is known, a single image is enough to pinpoint the target's location.
Targets of unknown size—If the exact size of a target is unknown, the software uses two images to triangulate the location of the target. Moving targets—By taking a short video of a moving target, the smartphone software can calculate how fast the target is moving and in what direction it is going.
"Currently, our software is limited by the physical abilities of smartphone hardware, but the devices are improving rapidly," Wang said, "We expect that improvements in GPS accuracy, battery life and camera resolution will allow our software to make even more accurate observations."53. The example given by Wang Qia is meant to .
A. make an advertisement
B. describe the software briefly
C. show the benefits of the software
D. present the functions of smartphones
54. What's Wang Qia's attitude towards the future of the software?
A. Casual.
B. Optimistic.
C. Cautious.
D. Flexible.
55. What is the best title for the text?
A. Wang Qia, a Talented Doctoral Student
B. Use Smartphones to Their Full Potential
C. Targeting and Tracking with Smartphones
D. Smartphone-armed Soldiers on the Battlefield

One possible version:
Recently, I have invented a magical helmet —Kubao. Now I would like to introduce it briefly to you.
Weighing about 300 grams, Kubao is like a common helmet in appearance. However, besides protecting the user’s head, it also has some special functions. For instance, we can listen to music, or make a phone call with it. It can also be used as a navigation instrument that can direct us to our destination, making our lives more convenient. In addition, what distinguishes it from a common helmet is that it can use solar energy to charge itself. So environment-friendly is Kubao that it must surely appeal to many consumers.
How amazing it is!。
