Millions of people visit Yosemite National Park every year to see the tall waterfalls and mountains. The mountains are a splendid sight when viewed from the valley floor.Lots of stores, hotels, and restaurants are needed to handle the crowds. Also, water, roads, and other service systems are part of theinfrastructure(基础设施)that must be maintained.Unfortunately, these systems are starting to break down. It's not just in Yosemite but in national parks around the nation.Yosemite is thirty years old according to Dennis Calvin,a National Park Service worker. The park is not only old but worn out.Two or three times as many visitors come every year. That is too many visitors for the park to deal with.Four years ago a storm washed out a water pipeline in the Grand Canyon. The National Park Service had to send water trucks to provide water for the st month pipes almost broke again and roads had to be closed for a while. Why hasn't the National Park Service kept up the park repairs? There is a lack of money. The United States has 378 monuments, parks, and wilderness areas.Between three and four billion dollars are needed for repairs.Yosemite is one national park that does have money for repairs. It has two hundred million dollars but cannot spend it any way it chooses. When the park workers started widening the road, they were forced to stop by the Sierra Club. The club claimed that the road work was damaging the Merced River that runs through the park.A Sierra Club lawyer, Julia Olson, feels that the infrastructure needs to be moved out of Yosemite. That way less pressure will be put on the already crowded park.1.According to the text, the mountains in Yosemite look splendid when they are appreciated from ________.A.the bottom of the valleysB.the top of the mountainsC.the side of the mountainsD.the edge of the valleys2.National parks like Yosemite in the U.S.find it increasingly difficult to meet the need of visitors because ________.A.their transport management needs improvingB.they spend too much on their service systemsC.their service systems frequently go out of orderD.they need help from environmental organizations3.The main problem of Yosemite National Park is its ________.A.rundown water pipesB.over crowdednessC.lack of moneyD.narrow roads4.According to the text, the Sierra Club is most likely to be ________.A.an environmental groupB.an information centerC.a travel serviceD.a law firm【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

On Christmas Eve, 1944, my grandmother urged my uncle, then 12 years old, to slip out of the concentration camp where they were imprisoned near 15 miles east of Vienna to go to Deutsch-Wagram. “People are charitable around Christmastime,”Grandma Lili said to her son, Gyuri. “Ask for some food. Anything they can spare. Tell them that we’re on the edge of starvation. Tell them that your 3-year-old sister can not get off the bed because she’s outgrown her shoes.”In the dark of that night, Gyuri secretly left the camp and walked nearly four miles to Deutsch-Wagram, the closest town. He happened upon a house and knocked on the front door. A woman opened that door. She was probably alone, her man far away, fighting in the war, her children asleep in their beds. The12-year-old pieced together in German exactly what his mother had told him to say.“Come back tomorrow," whispered the woman. The next day, my uncle returned. The woman opened the door with a smile. She piled his hands with bread, clothing, a pair of shoes that her child had outgrown and a pair of socks. The woman had knitted warm socks for my mother. After putting on the socks and shoes that fit, my mother got off the bed in delight. Her ragged shoes were passed on to a younger child who was also living in the camp. They shared their unexpected harvest with the entire camp. It was a quiet celebration of human kindness around Christmastime. In April 1945, my mother, uncle and grandmother were liberated. And it was those very socks and shoes that my mother wore as she walked some 28 miles over two days to Bratislava on her walk to a new life.To the unknown giver, I thank you. In the desperation of a cold and snowy land, when many hearts were closed and death was more likely than life, especially for Jews, you gave them hope and comfort.1.What did Gyuri manage to do on Christmas Eve?A. Get permitted to go out.B. Receive food and clothing.C. Express what his family needed.D. Celebrate Christmas in the camp2.Why does the author mention shoes so many times?A. To prove the truth of the story.B. To help the development of the story.C. To attract readers’attention to the story.D. To make clear the background of the story.3.What feeling did the author write the text with?A. DesperationB. Gratefulness.C. ExcitementD. Sorrow.4.What is the passage mainly about?A. Light in darknessB. Peace to common peopleC. Courage in face of dangerD. The influence of Christmas【文章大意】本文是一篇记叙文。

Unit 2 Poems李仕才一、阅读理解。

Should we allow modern buildings to be built next to older buildings in a historic area of a city? In order to answer this question, we must first examine whether people really want to preserve the historic feel of an area. Not all historical buildings are attractive. However, there may be other reasons—for example, economic reasons —why they should be preserved. So, let us assume that historical buildings are both attractive and important to the majority of people. What should we do then if a new building is needed? In my view, new architectural styles can exist perfectly well alongside an older style. Indeed, there are many examples in my own hometown of Tours where modern designs have been placed very successfully next to old buildings. As long as the building in question is pleasing and does not dominate(影响) its surroundings too much, it often improves the attractiveness of the area.It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt(破坏) the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old buildings too. Yet people still speak against new buildings in historic areas. I think this is simply because people are naturally conservative(保守的) and do not like change.Although we have to respect people’s feelings as fellow users of the buildings, I believe that it is the duty of the architect and planner to move things forward. If we always reproduced what was there before, we would all still be living in caves. Thus, I would argue against copying previous architectural styles and choose something fresh and different, even though that might be the more risky choice.【解题导语】本文是一篇议论文,讨论了现代建筑是否应该和古老的历史建筑建在一起。

It was just standing there, with father standing on one side, and me on the other side.We were both in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” stormed father. With tears welling up in my eyes, I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street. The street lights were shining, causing rather sad feelings. I wandered aimlessly.A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree. But now … I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because dad is getting old. We differ in our ways of thinking. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.I wandered the streets, without a destination in mind. My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were fewer and fewer people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw that the light was still on.I thought to myself: “Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?”In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except father’s.Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any pity or any moments of regret. This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature. The light was still on. “Am I wrong?” I whispered, maybe… With the key in my hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that the irondoor that I had imagined between us did not exist at all. Unit 2 Poems李仕才一、阅读理解。

On Christmas Eve, 1944, my grandmother urged my uncle, then 12 years old, to slip out of the concentration camp where they were imprisoned near 15 miles east of Vienna to go to Deutsch-Wagram. “People are charitable around Christmastime,” Grandma Lili said to her son, Gyuri. The 12-year-old pieced together in German exactly what his mother had told him to say.“Come back tomorrow," whispered the woman. To attract readers’ attention to the story.D. To make clear the background of the story.3.What feeling did the author write the text with?A. DesperationB. Gratefulness.C. ExcitementD. Sorrow.4.What is the passage mainly about?A. Light in darknessB. Peace to common peopleC. Courage in face of dangerD. The influence of Christmas【文章大意】本文是一篇记叙文。

Unit 2 Poems李仕才一、阅读理解.Few people are aware that Waterloo Bridge, crossed by thousands of daily commuters(通勤者) and celebrated as a London landmark, was mainly built by a female workforce。

There are no written or photographic records of the women who built the bridge since the construction company that built it closed in the 1980s and with it went all the records. What’s left is anecdotal evidence, kept alive by the tourist boat captains who have called it the Ladies’ Bridge.During the Second World War, with the majority of the active male labor force away at the front, women increasingly took on traditionally male roles. By 1944, 25,000 women were working in the construction industry, carrying out back。

Others had female identities. Some male jurors were angry about the judgment. When this happened, the students reacted by doubting their own decisions about the case.Confidence in their responses on the judgment “dropped obviously,”said the study. But,when female jurors seemed angry, the student participants“became obviously more confident in their original judgments,”the study found. The study could have wider importance.“Our results have implications(启示)for any woman who is trying to have influence on a decision in their workplace and everyday lives,”said Salerno. She added that in a political debate,a female candidate might have less influence if she shows anger.1.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Powerful Men Must Be Those Who Often Get AngryB.Women,be Careful Not to Turn Angry EasilyC.Angry Men Win Influence While Angry Women LoseD.Angry Women Are Not Unfit for Leaders While Men Are2.The underlined word“rated”in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by“________.”A.forgaveB.ignoredC.regardedD.praised3.How did the students react to the female jurors' anger with their judgments?A.They more firmly stuck to their judgments.B.They began to doubt about their judgments.C.They gave up their judgments willingly.D.They had to change their judgments.4.If a woman politician wants to have more influence, she'd better________.A.always keep smilingB.avoid losing her temperC.become angryD.give orders firmly参考答案: 1.C; 2.C; 3.A; 4.B解析: 1.[主旨大意题。

Unit 2 Poems李仕才一、阅读理解。

Few people are aware that Waterloo Bridge, crossed by thousands of daily commuters(通勤者) and celebrated as a London landmark, was mainly built by a female workforce. There are no written or photographic records of the women who built the bridge since the construction company that built it closed in the 1980s and with it went all the records. What’s left is anecdotal evidence, kept alive by the t ourist boat captains who have called it the Ladies’ Bridge.During the Second World War, with the majority of the active male labor force away at the front, women increasingly took on traditionally male roles. By 1944, 25,000 women were working in the construction industry, carrying out backbreaking tasks. These women were permitted to carry out this exhausting and dangerous work on the basis that it would only be temporary and that their pay would be lower than that of men. So the trend in women working in construction and engineering did not continue after the war.September sees a series of events celebrating the unknown work of the large female workforce. Musician Claudia Molitor has created a 45minute musical entitled “the Singing Bridge”, which runs at Somerset House from 9 to 25 September. In late September, the “Light up the Ladies’ Bridge” event sees the National Theatre’s fly tower lit up by large scale photographic projections(投影) of female construction workers working in construction during World War Ⅱ.Let’s all celebrate the women who have helped to build the cities in which we live.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

我们人类只使用了大脑的百分之十?是否激活沉睡的大部分大脑我们就可以比现在聪明十倍?很遗憾,科学证明事实并不是这样的!1.a 考查冠词。

hold a certain appeal “有一些吸引力”。

2.were 考查虚拟语气。

根据空格后的“then we could instantly become ...”可知,此处是与现在事实相反的假设,要用虚拟语气,故此处用were。

3.more intelligent 考查形容词的比较级。

由设空前的“ten times”可知,此处表示比较,指(比以前)聪明十倍,应填形容词的比较级,而intelligent是多音节形容词,故填more intelligent。

4.stimulated 考查动词的时态。

本句描述19世纪科学家所做的实验,因此用一般过去时。

5.its 考查代词。

这里its指代the animal's。

6.are called 考查动词的时态、语态和主谓一致。

which引导非限制性定语从句,which在从句中指代regions,此处描述一种研究发现,且call与regions是逻辑上的动宾关系,故填are called。
