Another reason why the statement is false is that it neglects the growing power of modern technology, which releases people from their labor and put machines and computers in places which employeesoriginally occupy. It is a common phenomenon now that tremendous farm land are being well organized under thecontrol of merely its owner taking advantage of the most advanced machines. Also, factories that ―manage the mass production is no longer news. Neither of these seemed even possible only decades ago, but they nowobvious examples of how a bussiness could be run without employees.

ReadingA recent study reveals that people especially young people are reading far less literature—novels, plays, and poems—than they used to. This is troubling because the trend has unfortunate effects for the reading public, for culture in general, and for the future of literature itself. While there has been a decline in book reading generally, the decline has been especially sharp for literature. This is unfortunate because nothing else provides the intellectual stimulation that literature does. Literature encourages us to exercise our imaginations, empathize with others, and expand our understanding of language. So by reading less literature, the reading public is missing out on important benefits.Unfortunately, missing out on the benefits of literature is not the only problem. What are people reading instead? Consider the prevalence of self‐help books on lists of best sellers. These are usually superficial poorly written, and intellectually undemanding. Additionally, instead of sitting down with a challenging novel, many persons are now more likely to turn onthe television, watch a music video, or read a Web page. Clearly, diverting time previously spent in reading literature to trivial forms of entertainment has lowered the level of culture in general. The trend of reading less literature is all the more regrettable because it is taking place during a period when good literature is being written. There are many talented writers today, but they lack an audience. This fact is bound to lead publishers to invest less in literature and so support fewer serious writers. Thus, the writing as well as the reading of literature is likely to decline because of the poor standards of today's readers.ListeningProfessor:It is often said that people are reading less literature today than they used to. What should of this?Well first, a book doesn't have to be literature to be intellectually stimulating. Science writing history, political analysis and so forth aren't literature perhaps, but they are often of high quality and these kinds of books can be just as creative and well‐written as a novel or a play They can stimulate the imagination. So don'tassume that someone who isn't reading literature isn’t reading a good book. But let's say that people aren't just spending less time with literature, they are also spending less time with books in general. Does that mean that the culture is in decline? No, there's plenty of culturally valuable material that isn't written ‐music and movies, for example. Are people wasting their time when they listen to a brilliant song or watch a good movie? Do these non‐literary activities lower cultural standards? Of course not. Culture has changed. In today's culture, there are many forms of expression available other than novels and poems. And some of these creative forms speak more directly to contemporary concerns than literature does. Finally, it's probably true that there's less support for literature today than in earlier generations. But don't be too quick to blame the readers. Sometimes it's the author's faults. Let's be honest. A lot of modern literature is intended to be difficult to understand. Here is not much reason to suppose that earlier generations of readers would have read a lot of today's literature either. Reading PassageMain points: Reading less among young people has unfortunate effects.Sub point 1: Decline sharp for literature cause missing out on important benefits.Sub point 2: Diverting time has lowered the level of culture.Sub point 3: Writing is likely to decline since poor standards of readers.LectureAttitude: Why?Sub Point 1:Doesn't have to be literature to be intellectually stimulating. (History, Political, creative, imagination.)Sub Point 2: Less time with book does not mean culture is in decline. (Music and movies, more directly.)Sub Point 3: Writers write modern literature difficult to understand. Paragraph 1The lecturer raises several arguments to counter the reading passage’s strong criticism of the public's declining interest in literature.

In this case, computer as a representative of modern technology pla ys a negative role in learning information. In this case, computer that is a equipmen t of modern technology have a bad effect in learning information. 因此,当给你美的东西,还要有一双发现美的眼睛!2011-8-2 Independent WritingDoes modern technology help students learn more information and learn it more qui ckly?Marvelous as it looks at first sight, modern technology does not help students learn information at a greater speed and with higher efficiency in most cases; or it coul d work towards the opposite direction which led students to lose their initiative to l earn and explore.First of all, one property of modern technology is latently harmful to any learning mind –it distracts. One thing we feel about when we are searching for information online is that the internet, as an outstanding example of modern technology and even regarded as the innovator of education, provides us with not only relevant resul ts to make use of, but also external links to click. More than once I turned on my computer to check school library for resources, but ended up watching Youtube vide os. In this case, computer as a representative of modern technology plays a negati ve role in learning information. We do acquire more information with the convenient tool, yet most of them are irrelevant and in the end procrastinating would lower o ur learning. Also, students would easily become disoriented in the huge sea of information. Alth ough modern technology could equip us with easy access to information, the huge amount of resources would actually leave us discombobulated. Therefore, it is only we possess information more quickly rather than we learn it more quickly. An illustr ating example is my experience with a HK digital library which stores almost all the books I desire. At first I enjoyed downloading them from the database, however, one month later I ended up with hundreds of books stored in my hardware yet no ne of them finished or ever clicked.Furthermore, modern technology gives students an illusion that information and real knowledge is easy to learn –just by clicking mouse or watching videos. But in fac t this forms only the first step towards useful information and effective learning, as learning of any kind requires full concentration and interactive thinking, which are almost absent in the pocess of popular e-learning experience. To summarize, modern technology does not help students learn more information a nd learn it more quickly, though it does make access to information and resources much more easily. The popular e-learning still lacks the concentration, depth, and in teraction that are the hallmark of traditional ways of educating and learning.2011-8-10TPO Independent writing:我们生活的时代比父辈们年轻时生活的时代更好还是更坏?It seems that people always have a desire to compare: am I prettier than others? Are we living in a better age? Or, as the question goes, is our life easier and more enjoyable than it was several decades ago? I would say no, as I have witnessed t he struggle and paradox of our generation.First of all, we are now living in an age of revolution with no previous human expe rience that could be referred to. Living in such a fast-changing world would not be easy and comfortable at all; with everything keeps changing, everyone has to move fast in order to catch up with the majority. However, people were much more sta ble and care-free when our grandparents were children; they did not have to learn a second language in order to get a better job, or read a lot in order to get infor med. Yet in our age, these are supposed to be the responsibility of young people.Another discomfort of our age is that we are experiencing interpersonal alienation. With the development of communication technology, people in fact become alienate d with friends and relatives since they could be so easily accessed via phone or em ail. Too often we feel that few of our friends are true friends, without the tradition al feeling of mutual affection which could only be created by longtime apart. But se veral decades ago, people treasured their friends and maintained relatively close int erpersonal relations, which is much more enjoyable than the estrangements we are experiencing. The last factor that has made our age so uncomfortable is the abusive use of tech nology. Although it brings much convenience, it essentially changes human –we ar e no longer the master of tools, but instead the slaves of devices. We rush to metr o station in order to catch an early train, sit in front of radioactive computers all d ay long in order to get our work done, and stay in air-conditioned rooms all summ er without experiencing the natural changes outside thick cement walls. Several dec ades ago, people could still live closer to nature and make rational use of modern t echnology, which to me is the essence of human living experience. However, the comparison between different times is itself ridiculous. The criteria cou ld not be easily determined, and opinions are highly personal. Anyway, we have a l onger life span, more advanced medical facilities, and easier traffic than our grandp arent when they were children, and we should treasure the present experience. Ima gination of the past might only be nostalgia –if I ask my grandparents the same q uestion, they might as well say that our life is much better than the past generatio ns. Who knows? As long as the world is still peaceful, life at any time would not b ecome too difficult to handle.2011/8/14Independent writing:Most advertisements make products much better than they really are.I strongly agree to the statement that most advertisements makes the products pre sented much better than they really are, and points below supports my idea.An essential reason concerns the nature of advertising –advertisers, in most cases, would only make products seem better than they really are, not the other way aro und. Since the ultimate aim of advertising is to persuade people into buying someth ing, and people would natually be attracted by something that is desirable rather th an repellent, advertisements are certainly made to display a more attractive image o f products. Therefore, customers would first be graviated towards the virtual produc t that is somewhat dishonestly pictured by advertisers, then desire to own it, and e ventually purchase it. In this way, the desire of consumers is satisfied, the purpose of production achieved, and the advertising process completed. But the norm that a “good” product is advertised as a “better” one is often challen ged or even reversed –that is, unscrupulous businessmen make use of advertising to sell inferior products, which raises a moral question. For example, my mother wa s once attracted by a commercial of a encyclopedia which was claimed to be the o ne and only complete version of several ancient Chinese documents. She rushed to the shop and bought this “limited version” at a eye-popping price, and regarded it as one of the most precious things in our house. However, a few months later she found the same version was sold in bulk at another shop at an unbelievably low p rice, which annoyed her for quite a long time. We can learn from the experience th at we should not always trust the advertisements that are apparently exaggerating products, and keep alert in the swarm of television commercials. However, the notion that “advertisement always make us disappointed” sometimes r esults from consumers’ unrealistic expectation of products. Advertising easily makes people to imagine “perfect” products which are not realistic at all, but consumers w ould rather keep this unreasonable hope. Then they would be inevitably disappointe d by the actual products which cannot be so perfect, and attribute the cause to ad vertising. But it is actually the unrealistic expectation that eclipses any product, beca use a perfect image is absolutely subjective and could not even be realized. For ex ample, I once signed up for a group tour toLantaoIslandinHong Kong, being attracte d by the beautiful landscape pictures posted in the advertisements. But later on in t he journey I was disappointed because actual scenery was never as attractive as w hat I had expected to see. Therefore, an unrealistic expectation is to be avoided in making any buying decision. In conclusion, advertisements do make products seem much better than they really are, as a result of commercial propaganda and our unrealistic hope imposed on pro ducts. A better solution would be that both consumers and sellers keep a more real istic point of view, and avoid unreasonable selling or buying behavior.2011/8/15Independent writing: Does technology make children less creative than in the past? Are our kids becoming lazier and less creative, less imaginable than before as a co nsequence of highly advanced technology? My answer is no, and just the opposite, technology has apparently assisted our kids to become more creative.First and foremost, technology has provided children with easy access to scientific a nd liberal art resources which is their best source of inspiration. For example, childr en could now easily gain access to academic databases through iPad screen, read cl assical works on Kindle, or watch historic documents on Internet. These great works are essentially helpful to arousing their curiosity and prepares them with key knowl edge necessary for any creation. However, these wonderful equipments and facilities are never as handy in the past, when kids could only reach limited resources in p ublic libraries or schools. In this sense, technology has provided the possibility for c hildren to be more creative.Second, technology has equipped children with professional apparatus which could fi nally realize their imagination. This takes form particularly as computer softwares an d applications, such as Photoshop for creative graphic design, Overture for easily co mposing a piece of music, 3DMax for building up a virtual world, etc.. All the softw are were never as handy as they are at present, and this would absolutely provides our children an effective tool for realizing their creativity.Third, technology itself is a market place where creative ideas are economically enc ouraged. Steve Jobs earned millions of dollars a year for his unparallel creation, an d Mark Zuckberg gained his reputation for the genius social network. Therefore, tec hnology has provided children the internal motive to develop their creativity. However, it is undeniable that technology might make children become lazier and b e comfortable with what is already available because everything are so convenient n owadays and there seems to be no way to improve them. Children lost in pc game s or blindly pursuing every single piece of tech apparatus is a relevant example. Th us, it is always necessary to keep children’s mind active in the marvelous world of technology. In a nutshell, I still regard children as becoming increasingly creative in technology development, although it might bring minor side effect. As along as we keep a bala nced mood on children enjoying the fruit of technology, they are sure to contribute more to innovation than in the past.2011-08-20Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The teachers should be pai d according to how well the students perform.Teachers should in part be responsible of the students’ school performance, yet I d i sagree to the statement that the teachers should be paid according to the students’performance on several grounds. The statement itself underlies a serious mistake –the very purpose of teaching and schooling, and education on a bigger scale, is better performance of all students. Common sense informs me that education, and teachers’ responsibility in particular, should be intended to building up students’ confidence in exploring and discovering unknown respects as well as specific skills required to accomplish that. Such standar d is often broad and abstract in contrast to the narrowness and rigidity of the crite rion –students’ performance. If teachers’ salary is determined by the students’ perf ormance, this hint would destroy the long-term function of schooling and education since the system is short-sightedly targeted at improving students’ performance. Another thing to be worried about the statement is that, if actually carried out, bot h teachers and students would be cast into the irrational pursuit for performance th us results in serious problems. For example, a teacher evaluated in this way is imm ediately forced to make the decision: to push her class toward the best performanc e or at least better than the worst-performing class, and show preference to studen ts who perform well. Such measures might be incentives for a better grade, but theteacher and the students would lose their original motivation in schooling as perfor mance becomes the one and only purpose. Also, consequent competition among stu dents would place heavy pressure on every student, and the ones who do not perf orm well would be neglected by the teacher and fall into upset. Considering all the disastrous effect such measure could incur, it is obvious that teachers should not b e paid o n the basis of students’ performance.A more realistic and rational criterion to value teachers’ work (and therefore decide their salary) should include factors such as comprehensive developments of students, teachers’ own capacity to cultivate and educate, and parents’ feedback. Yet my dis agreement does not suggest that students’ performance should be abandoned but r ather included along with other indispensable factors in evaluating teachers’ work, si nce school report is still among most parents’ top con cerns and students have to u se it as anchor when applying for further studies. Also, it is reasonable that teacher s who can enhance students’ performance should be paid better, as the measure w ould moderately motivate teachers to work hard.In a nutshell, I object to the idea that the teachers should be paid on the basis of the students’ performance, but should instead be evaluated on a medley of compr ehensive quatatives which agrees with the purpose of education and schooling as w ell as encourages their effort toward more satisfying learning experience.。

We are able to make use of many tools increasing productivity today. For instance, the computer plays an important role in our life in terms of efficiency. As I want to search material concerning the “nuclear energy”,all I have to do is to type this term on Google and a great number of sources will pop out on the screen. Given the past, I had to go to the library andbury me a couple of days looking for the information on nuclear energy without the assistance of computers. The distance is conspicuous, thus modern people with advanced technology would succeed more readily.

technology, which releases people from their labor and put machines and computers in places which employees originally occupy. It is a common phenomenon now that tremendous farm land are being well organized under the control of merely its owner taking advantage of the most advanced machines. Also, factories that “hires” computers to manage the mass production is no longer news. Neither of these seemed even possible only decades ago, but they now obvious examples of how a bussiness could be run without employees.

Another reason why the statement is false is that it neglects the growing power of modern technology, which releases people from their labor and put machines and computers in places which employees originally occupy. This statement is wrong, and the another reason for this is that it can not see the technology is developing, and it liberates our human from hard work, and it makes machines and computers do the jobs that people do.

无老师作文巨讲堂20149月【篇一:无老师作文巨讲堂合集】2014年12月无老师优秀范例:―to spend, or not to spend: that is the question.‖ when it comes to government expenditure on space project, the debate in both the community and the common world has come to a vogue. should government spend a considerable amount of money on exploration of the universe, as asserted by scientists, scholars, and government officials;or should these money go to more pressing issues of the day, as the poor and the miserable maintains? as for me i commit to the notion that space technology, though impractical at first glance, is of vital importance to humankind, and is therefore worthy of our taxes.

Perhaps no issue in this world is as significance to students as education. Despite various responses people may have on the topic concerning the issue regarding which thing should the education aim at. I, given the chance, prefer to endorse that preparing for careers should have primary consideration. When people improve their living level, rest is more and more important to us, for example, going to museum, going to concert, and going to swim with friends. The government should give money to the public movement, but other people think the government should provide these money to museums and music center, but not to the rest things. I do not agree with this opinion. With the improvement of living quality of modern people, leisure activities become more and more important for them, such as go to the museum, concert, or go to swim with friends and so on. There is no doubt that government should give subsidies to support those public activities, but some people argue that it’s more important for the government to spend money to build art museums and music performance center than to build recreational facilities. I disagree with this opinion.improve our relation’s web. Join LinkedIn and Plaxo, and ask for advices from current and past partners. You should have time to make a visualization every day. You must think about it and make a note of them. You should make a rule that you should make some time every day to make your dream real. If you are an artist, you should make an artistic production. If you are a writer, you should write something. If you do not do any thing, the dream will never come ture. There are two halves to achieving a new reality: You must have time to dream, and you must take action. Give yourself time for creative visualization daily. Note ideas that come, and keep a record of these. Make a rule that you spend X amount of time daily taking action on your dreams. Artists produce artwork. Authors write. If you are not taking action, you will not achieve your dream. You should find another job. This is the key when you waiting in your position. Don’t show me specifics.Subconscious is motivated by emotion, right? Not reason.Well he was a very inspiring figure. But, if we do not connect with the world, humor is not useful. Roommates should share their experiences, and these will make their relationship closer. In this condition, humor is a very important quality. for example, a joke may break the silence, and make everyone very happy. Nevertheless, it would not work either if everybody just keep to themselves without communicating. It is also essential for roommates to share their experiences with one another and thus get close in their relationship. In this case, a good sense of humor can be a such a valuable quality as a single joke may break the silence and open up a nice conversation.First, recreational facilities are more important than art museums and music performance center. We believe art museums and music performance center values a lot. Confucius, greatest Chinese philosopher, said art may give more pleasure. Watching art in the art museums, and Listening the music in the music performance center can improve our spirit world. But it does not mean recreational facilities is less improtant than art museums and music performance center.Firstly, art museums and music performance center is no more important than(正话反说) recreational facilities. Admittedly, art museums and music performance is of great importance. Confucius, greatest Chinese philosopher, commented, “Art helps a person gets a better life.” To go to art museums to appreciate those art works and to go the music performance center to listen to symphony help people get improvement in mental life. But it does not mean that recreational facilities take the second place. However, There are many factors contributed to success, such as time, work hard, and luck. This list could be very long. Just as a book writed by by Bryan Tracy says that the success involves 21 pieces. If one want to make success, no matter what time it is, they must try their best at the right time, at the right position, but also with a little luck. If a person live in this society, he could not succeed without trying one’s best. However, success depends on many conditions, such as time, hard work and luck. The list goes on and on. As one of the books by Bryan Tracy says, the success consists of 21 secrets. No matter what era one is in, one has to tries one’s best to work at right time at right place with a little luck in order to succeed. If one lives today but does take action, one will end up no where(impossibly at all) certainly.Firstly, Swimming in the swimming pool and playing football on the playgrounds may give people healthy body. To be healthy, enjoying the art may offer the mental pleasure. Secondly, not every one like the art, but everybody need the exercising. The people who are not favorable of the art barely enter the art museums or music performance center. However, if government builds recreational facilities, they may give the average people a place to take exercise.Firstly, people need sturdy bodies by doing exercise, including swimming in the swimming pool and playing football on the playgrounds. To be healthy, people then can pursuit the enjoyment from the mental to appreciate art. Secondly, not all people enjoy art in fact, but all people need to do exercises. For those people who do not like art at all, they would seldom go to the art museums or music performance center. But if government builds recreational facilities, it will benefit all citizens by providing places to exercise.Furthermore, Students think that modern technology makes the information and real knowledge very easy to learn. The only thing that you need is hitting the mouse or watching videos. But, in fact, this is just the first step of learning useful information and making the effective learning. Because if you want to learn a knowledge, you should pay attention on the full concentration, but also thinking it through, but we can not find any of these in the popular e-learning. Furthermore, modern technology gives students an illusion that information and real knowledge is easy to learn – just by clicking mouse or watching videos. But in fact this forms only the first step towards useful information and effective learning, as learning of any kind requires full concentration and interactive thinking, which are almost absent in the process of popular e-learning experience.。
