Movie makers at one time worried that they might be put out of business by television. Recently, however, more and more people have been going to the movies. This may be partly because the economic situation in America has worsened. When at the movies, people forget their troubles, as they get involved in the story on the screen. Also, directors have recently been producing pictures that large numbers of people want to see.
Americans in the millions are returning to their love affair with the movies. Motion picture industry experts see two main factors responsible for this: an increased need by Americans to escape from economic worries and a large number of new movies with broad audience appeal.
Movie makers admit that their rising popularity is partly the result of poor economic conditions, which traditionally bring an increase in theater attendance. “When people are fearful about the future, they look for escape,” comments Jack Valenti, president of the Motion Picture Association of America. “In a shaded theater, with a 65-foot screen, you lose yourself for two and a half hours and people find this beneficial.”
50 What did movie makers worry about before?
A. That no one would go to the cinema.
B. That movies couldn’t be a business any more.
C. That people preferred watching TV to seeing films.
D. That their movies might be played on television.
51 Why are so many people going to see movies now?
A. Because people now have much more money.

C. Because people wanted to escape from real life.
D. Because watching movies is now much cheaper than watching TV.

The parents of a troubled teen may feel unsure as to whom to turn to in order to find help for their child. They may feel as if they have exhausted all of their options, and sometimes they are on the verge of giving up. But there is hope. Schools for troubled teens offer discipline and in some cases, drug treatment programs that can provide important life skills, and more importantly, a fresh start.
The following is a list of the most effective types of schools for troubled teens. Not every facility is a match for every child, but by knowing the differences between them, parents can make a better educated decision about where to send their teenager. Boarding Schools
When a child is unable to deal with the relative freedom of a standard school day, boarding schools might be a good choice. At boarding schools, the child lives in a dorm setting, where almost every minute of the day is scheduled by school administrators.
Treatment Centers
When a teenager has an addiction to drugs or alcohol, a residential center that specializes in young people is an outstanding way to help them break the cycle of addiction. Treatment centers feature individual and group counseling to help identify the root causes of the drug problem and help develop the life skills needed to stay clean when the program is over.
Wilderness Programs
Designed to help improve the discipline and self-reliance of the child, wilderness programs send kids back to nature. By placing them in a foreign and sometimes uncomfortable setting, wilderness programs hope to improve children’s behavior. Programs generally include hikes, exercise programs and team building exercises. Boot Camps
Boot camps are the most extreme style of school for troubled teens. These facilities are modeled after actual military boot camps, where the individual must get into shape, work as part of a team, and follow a long, hard set of rules and regulations. However, boot camps might not be the best choice for a teen with a drug addiction.
54. Who would be the intended readers of the passage?
A. Teachers.
B. Experts.
C. Students.
D. Parents.
55. As the author suggests schools for troubled teens______.
A. can be a good choice for some desperate parents
B. are becoming more and more popular with teens in trouble

A. provide children with more freedom
B. have their students’ time managed carefully
C. pay much attention to team building exercises
D. can make children feel safer
57. What’s the purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce schools for troubled teens.
B. To show some problems of troubled teens.
C. To teach parents how to educate their children.

The earth is getting warmer. People burn coal, oil and gas and this produces carbon dioxide, methane(沼气)and nitrous oxide. These gases, called “greenhouse gases”, prevent the heat of the sun from leaving the earth’s upper atmosphere and this makes the earth warmer
62.
A few weeks ago a group of scientists produced a report about global warming and the natural world. They wanted to find out if global warming was dangerous for plants and animals. According to what they found, the scientists say that during the next 50 years about 25% of land animals and plants will become extinct. More than a million plant and animal species will be extinct by 2050.
63.
More than 10% of all plants and animals will become extinct. It is too late to save many plants and animals because of the greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere. But the scientists say if we control greenhouse gases now, we could save many more plant and animals from extinction.
64.
The scientists studied some regions of the world with a very rich biology. These were Europe, Australia, Central and South America, and South Africa. Their studies showed that species living in mountainous areas had a better chance of survival because they could move uphill, to get cooler. In flat areas, such as deserts, plants and animals would have to move a very long distance to get cooler, so they are in grater danger of extinction.
65.
The scientists found that half of the 24 species of butterflies they studied in Australia would soon become extinct. 60% of the species in the Kruger National Park in South Africa would also die out, and more than 100% of the 300 South Africa plant species they studied would also become extinct. One of the plants in danger of extinction is the national flower of South Africa, the King Protea.
They studied 163 tree species in the Cerrado region of Brazil and found that
70 would become extinct. Many of the plants and trees that live in the region
live nowhere else in the world. In Mexico, they studied 1,870 species and found that more than
30% of these were in danger of extinction.

It is known to us all, paper burns easily. Yesterday, Mike, a six-year-old boy, made a paper box
and then filled it for water. He then lit a candle and tries to burn the paper box. Much to his
surprises, the paper box didn’t catch fire. Such curious was the child about the experiment that
he asked for his father endless questions about it. His father, which is a teacher in a primary
school, didn’t know how to ask these questions, but he didn’t pretend to understand. He did
everything he could help his son solve the problem. This experience made Mike interesting in
the study of modern science.

May I have your attention, please?
My topic today is about copying other’s homework.
As we all know, some students copy other’s homework. On the one hand, we students have to do masses of homework both at home and at school. Sometimes we do have some problems, too hard to work out. On the other hand, lazy and uninterested in their lessons, some students copy others’ homework not only to finish the assignments but also please their teachers.
In a word, copying others’ homework is a bad habit. For one thing, it’s against the school rules. Being students, we should be honest and work hard. If we have difficulties, we can turn to teachers and classmates for help. For another, copying others’ homework too often, we will lose the ability that can help us to think.。
