新概念英语第三册Lesson1 A puma at largePumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London, they were not taken seriously. However, as the evidence began to accumulate, experts from the Zoo felt obliged to investigate, for the descriptions given by people who claimed to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar. The hunt for the puma began in a small village where a woman picking blackberries saw 'a large cat' only five yards away from her. It immediately ran away when she saw it, and experts confirmed that a puma will not attack a human being unless it is cornered(adj.被困得走投无路的). The search proved difficult, for the puma was often observed at one place in the morning and at another place twenty miles away in the evening. Wherever it went, it left behind it a trail of dead deer and small animals like rabbits. Paw prints were seen in a number of places and puma fur was found clinging to bushes. Several people complained of 'cat-like noises' at night and a businessman on a fishing trip saw the puma up a tree. The experts were now fully convinced that the animal was a puma, but where had it come from ? As no pumas had been reported missing from any zoo in the country, this one must have been in the possession of a private collector and somehow managed to escape. The hunt went on for several weeks, but the puma was not caught. It is disturbing to think that a dangerous wild animal is still at large in the quiet countryside.美洲狮是一种体形似猫的大动物,产于美洲。

新概念英语第三册课文翻译及学习笔记:Lesson10【课文】The great ship, Titanic, sailed for New York from Southampton on April 10th, 1912. She was carrying 1316 passengers and a crew of 89l. Even by modern standards, the 46,000 ton Titanic was a colossal ship. At that time, however, she was not only the largest ship that had ever been built, but was regarded as unsinkable, for she had sixteenwatertight compartments. Even if two of these were flooded, she would still be able to float. The tragic sinking of this great liner will always be remembered, for she went down onher first voyage with heavy loss of life.Four days after setting out, while the Titanic wassailing across the icy waters of the North Atlantic, a huge iceberg was suddenly spotted by a look-out. After the alarm had been given, the great ship turned sharply to avoid adirect collision. The Titanic turned just in time, narrowly missing the immense wall of ice which rose over 100 feet outof the water beside her. Suddenly, there was a slighttrembling sound from below, and the captain went down to see what had happened. The noise had been so faint that no one thought that the ship had been damaged. Below, the captain realized to his horror that the Titanic was sinking rapidly, for five of her sixteen watertight compartments had already been flooded! The order to abandon ship was given andhundreds of people plunged into the icy water. As there were not enough life-boats for everybody, 1500 lives were lost.【课文翻译】巨轮“泰坦尼克”号1912 年4 月10 日从南安普敦起锚驶向纽约。

新概念英语第三册课文及翻译1New Concept English Book Three: Texts and TranslationsIntroductionNew Concept English Book Three is a comprehensive course designed for English language learners. In this article, we will explore the first text from Book Three and provide a translation to enhance understanding. Let's dive into the text and delve into its meaning.Text 1: A Puma at LargeOnce a puma lived on Dartmoor. It was not dangerous. It was never seen except at a distance, and it was believed to be timid. Then, quite suddenly, it decided to attack the sheep: it killed three in a week. Unfortunately, the carcasses were discovered while they were still fresh, and the cause of their death was quite plain. A puma was at large on the moor. Many people took guns up the hills, and a few went out armed with sticks. All of them were eager to have a shot at the puma. At first, it seemed to be quite easy to find, for it left unmistakable traces of its presence: wherever it passed, it left a trail of slaughtered animals behind it. The local police organized beaters, who were instructed to beat up likely hiding places. But the puma was not flushed out. Packs of dogs were employed to search coverts and rushes, but they failed to find it. There were people who declared that the beast must have gone away, and they were laughed at. The general opinion was that it was still on the moor. If it was not found soon, it would begin to attack people, and nobody wanted to be the first victim.Translation: A Puma at LargePuma是一种大型野生猫科动物,曾经有一只puma生活在达特穆尔(Dartmoor)上。
新标准大学英语综合教程3课文翻译(1-10单元30篇)
Unit 1-1Catching crabs1 In the fall of our final year, our mood changed. The relaxed atmosphere of the preceding summer semester, the impromptu ball games, the boating on the Charles River, the late-night parties had disappeared, and we all started to get our heads down, studying late, and attendance at classes rose steeply again. We all sensed we were coming to the end of our stay here, that we would never get a chance like this again, and we became determined not to waste it. Most important of course were the final exams in April and May in the following year. No one wanted the humiliation of finishing last in class, so the peer group pressure to work hard was strong. Libraries which were once empty after five o'clock in the afternoon were standing room only until the early hours of the morning, and guys wore the bags under their eyes and their pale, sleepy faces with pride, like medals proving their diligence.2 But there was something else. At the back of everyone's mind was what we would do next, when we left university in a few months' time. It wasn't always the high flyers with the top grades who knew what they were going to do. Quite often it was the quieter, less impressive students who had the next stages of their life mapped out. One had landed a job in his brother's advertising firm in Madison Avenue, another had got a script under provisional acceptance in Hollywood. The most ambitious student among us was going to work as a party activist at a local level. We all saw him ending up in the Senate or in Congress one day. But most people were either looking to continue their studies, or to make a living with a white-collar job in a bank, local government, or anything which would pay them enough to have a comfortable time in their early twenties, and then settle down with a family, a mortgage and some hope of promotion.3 I went home at Thanksgiving, and inevitably, my brothers and sisters kept asking me what I was planning to do. I didn't know what to say. Actually, I did know what to say, but I thought they'd probably criticize me, so I told them what everyone else was thinking of doing.4 My father was watching me but saying nothing. Late in the evening, he invited me to his study. We sat down and he poured 抓螃蟹1.大学最后一年的秋天,我们的心情变了。
