A. 在很久以前的节目中,我们介绍了一些与中餐有关的英语知识和内容,例如如何用英语来表达中餐名称以及一些中式烹饪方法。
V. 我们也简单介绍了一些在西餐厅、包括西式快餐厅点餐的内容。
A. 其实,我知道,在西方人们还是很重视早餐的,因为很多人相信,如果早餐吃得舒服,则表示一天会过得愉快。
V. 是的,在英语中,就有一个有关早餐的谚语:Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.
A. 这个谚语的字面意思是:早餐像国王、午餐像王子、晚餐像乞丐,那么它究竟是什么意思呢?
V. 这个谚语的意思就是:早餐吃得多、中餐要适量、晚餐要吃少,强调的是早餐的重要性。
A. 汉语中也有类似的说法,不过在现实中,许多人可能白天忙忙碌碌,只有下班后才有更多时间,因此晚餐可能反而吃得最多。
V. 对许多家庭而言,晚餐可能是全家唯一可以聚在一起的时间,因此时间会拖得长、进食的量也会增加。
A. 这都是无可厚非的,不过,从健康角度考虑,我们应当尽可能地减少晚餐的量,就像汉语和英语谚语所说的那样。
V. 而相反,早上许多人匆匆忙忙要上班上学,很多时间可能会干脆不吃早饭,这也是不健康的饮食习惯。
A. 许多专家认为,从健康角度考虑,早餐可能是一日三餐中最重要的,我们今天就以早餐作为话题来了解一下西式早餐的一些知识。
V. 了解这方面的内容对于平时购物、与朋友交流等都有用,同时对于外出旅游或出差时也会用得上。
A. 是的,外出旅游或出差时住在酒店或B&B时,肯定会碰到吃西式早餐的情况,这时候了解西式早餐就很有必要了。
V. 首先,在西式早餐中都会有一些新鲜果汁(fresh juice),相信许多朋友们都很熟悉这些果汁的名称,我们在此简单列举一些:
Apple juice 苹果汁
Orange juice 橙汁
Carrot juice 胡萝卜汁
Peach juice 桃汁
Pineapple juice 菠萝汁
Tomato juice 蕃茄汁
V. 西式早餐非常常见的还有谷类(cereal),通常吃法是加入牛奶一起食用,有人就冷着吃,称为cold cereal,也有人会加热吃,称为hot cereal。
A. 去超市买过东西的人一定都注意到了,cereal的种类有很多,其实早餐吃cereal也进入了许多华人家庭,因为它简单而有营养。
V. 很多人早餐会吃鸡蛋,根据烹煮方面不同,各种蛋有不同的名称。
A. 中文中也是一样,例如:炒蛋、煎蛋、水煮蛋等等,这些如何用英语来表达呢?
V. 我们下面就分别来看一看,首先是炒蛋,它的英语表达是:scrambled egg,其中单词scramble的拼法是[ ]。
A. 顾名思义,炒蛋就是将蛋壳敲碎,将蛋白和蛋黄一起放在锅里炒,哎,Vincent,这蛋白和蛋黄的英语是什么啊?
V. 蛋白的英语单词很简单,就是white,而蛋黄的英语单词是yolk [ ]。
A. 再来看第二种煎蛋,这比较简单,就是fried egg,煎蛋时蛋黄保持完整、不打散。
V. 说简单其实也不简单,fried egg也分几种,其中最常见的一种是sunny side up,字面意思就是“太阳一面朝上”,也就是蛋黄一面朝上。
A. 从字面就能知道是个什么样的蛋了,慢火单煎一面,煎至蛋白凝固,蛋黄固定但是里面仍然是流动的样子。
黄色的蛋黄趁着白色的蛋白,像是一个太阳。
V. 这是单面煎蛋,如果想要两面都煎一下,就应当说:over easy。
A. 下面来看一下水煮蛋,具体来说有两种,一种是带壳煮的蛋,另一种是去壳煮的蛋。
V. The former is called boiled egg and the latter is called poached egg.,其中单词poach拼法是[ ]。
A. 前一种即带壳的叫做boiled egg,后一种去壳的叫做poached egg,poached egg就是将鸡蛋打入开水中整个地煮,煮熟后的鸡蛋周围是蛋白,中间是蛋黄。
V. 除了上面说的几种之外,还有一种鸡蛋的做法,就是煎蛋饼,英语是omelet或者omelette。
A. 煎蛋饼与前面说的煎蛋都以煎的方法,但区别在于煎蛋饼是先将蛋黄打散,再倒入锅内煎,因此成型后的蛋饼是黄色的,分不出来蛋白和蛋黄。
V. 在西式早餐中,吃鸡蛋时,许多人会在旁边配上其它一些食品,其中最常见的是:
Ham 火腿
Bacon 熏肉,或称培根肉
Sausage 香肠、腊肠
V. 西式早餐还少不了面包类食物,其中下面几种很常见,我们来一个一个拼读:
