NoisePollution(噪音污染)

Noise Pollution(噪音污染)Noise PollutionWe know the sounds of cities are loud enough to cause great harm to people's hearing in the U.S. One person out of twenty has got some hearing loss. And all over the world the situation is getting worse and worse all the time since the noise increases with the population. With the development of machines, noise has also increased greatly in the 20th century. We live surrounded by loud planes, trucks and electric tools. TV sets and radios add up to 90 or J00 decibels, a certain unit used to measure the loudness of sound.A normal dialogue reaches 55 decibels; a plane goes to 100, and an ordinary train, reaching the station, can be twice as loud as the loudest plane. Disco music reaches about 118. At decibels the ear stops hearing sound, and pain starts. How terrible if things go on like this!噪音污染众所周知,在美国,城市巨大的噪音对人们的听力造成了极大的损害。

DEFINITION OF POLLUTION•When HarmfulSubstances Contaminatethe Environment it isCalled Pollution.•Pollution refers to thevery bad condition ofenvironment in terms ofquantity and quality .Definition of Water PollutionThe Contamination of water with undesirable substances which make it unfit for usage is termed water Pollution.Water pollution is any chemical, physical or biologicalchange in the quality of water that has a harmful effect on any living being that drinks or uses or lives (in) it.Water Pollution•organic and inorganicindustrial wastes and affluentdischarged into rivers.Litter from land is carried bywind or rivers to oceans andbeachesLeakage of oil in sea water Causes of Water PollutionThere are lots of causes of water pollution, the major ones are:Sewage wastes and fertilizer going into dams, streams, rivers and the ocean.•some pesticides (e.g., DDT, dieldrin)•some leached components from landfillsites (municipal, industrial)•petroleum and petroleum products•PCBs, dioxins, polyaromatichydrocarbons (PAHs)•radioactive materials such asstrontium-90, cesium-137, radium-226,and uranium•metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium •warm water from cooling towers (thermal pollution) •floating debris•garbage•foamSources of Water pollutionWater PollutionThe Worlds water pollution crisis is getting worse every year. Water is the most important thing on earth, if water pollution keeps up the way it is then it will get far more worse then what it is right now.Industrial Water pollution •Industries discharge a variety of pollutants in their wastewater including heavy metals , resin pellets, organic toxins, oils, nutrients, and solids. The facilities to treat waste water are not adequate in any city in India.Effects of Water Pollution•Aquatic life gets destroyed•Diseases caused by the ingestionof water contaminated with pathogenic bacteria, viruses, or parasites include:•cholera•typhoid•schistosomiasis•dysentery and other diarrhealdiseasesWith billions of people on earth it is very hardfor there not to be any water pollution. Thepopulation is increasing every day sotherefore if we want to stop water pollutionwe need to start now before its to late.We need to stop releasing deadly toxins into thewater and we have to find other places to putour sewage into. We also need water treatmentplants to recycle all the water so there will beless risk of disease, and there wouldn’t be somuch sewage.•Over 1 billion people lack access to safe water supplies, while 2.6 billion people •lack adequate sanitation. This has led to widespread microbial contamination of drinking water.•Water-associated infectious diseases claim up to 3.2 million lives each year, approximately 6% of all deaths globally.Remedial measures •Locate the point sources of pollution. •Work against acid rain.•Educate your community.•Ensure sustainable sewage treatment. •Watch out for toxins.•Be careful what you throw away. •Use water efficiently.•Prevent pollution .•Think globally, act locally. How to Avoid Water Pollution •Rivers should not be used for washing clothes or bathing animals in.•Harvesting of Rainwater to meet water requirements.•Dams &embankments must be created.•The rivers must not be contaminated.•In sacred river like Ganga the dead bodies shouldn’t thrown.•The word noise comes from the Latin word•Nausea meaning “ seasickness “•Or from a derivative of Latin word noxia or noceo = “ I do harm “ referring originally•To nuisance noise•Noise can be simply defined as unwanted sound.•The sound is pleasant or not depends upon its loudness, duration, rhythm and the mood of the person.•Noise pollution not only results in irritation and anger.•Noise Pollution, adverse effects of noise in our living and working environment.•Noise is, by definition, unwanted sound. It may be annoying,•interfere with speech communication,•leisure, or relaxation,•at very high levels which may occur at work or during certain noisy leisure activities, it may result in hearing loss by causing damage to the hair-cells in the cochlea in the inner ear. Noise is more often a major problem in terms of quality of human life in specific localities.Road Traffic NOISE IN THE COMMUNITYAircraft Construction Social Noise Railways A common form of noise pollution is from Transportation, principally motor vehicles SOURCES OF NOISEOutdoor sources▪Traffic (road, rail and air)▪Generator sets ▪Industries ▪Fire-crackers ▪Loudspeakers and Public Address Systems ▪Construction Activities ▪Vehicle horns Indoor sources▪Air coolers ▪Air conditioners ▪Television, music systems ▪Other office & home appliances etc.INDUSTRIES Problem is faced mainly in mixed zones or where other use zones are very near to the industrial zone. in addition, noiseis of concern within the industries also.•TRAFFIC NOISERoad Traffic:▪Major concern in our country.▪Increasing vehicle population▪Planners lack of concern at the time of planning for residential areas and other use zones vis-à-vis roads▪Lack of driving discipline▪Indiscriminate use of horns.Air Traffic :▪Air traffic is increasing at the rate of about 25% in our country and is expected to cause major concern of noise pollution in coming years.Rail Traffic:▪Is of concern where trains passes by residential and other sensitive areas.•LOUD SPEAKERS / PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEMSUse of loud speakers / public address systems in functions, meetings, religious places in open areas is a source of serious nuisance.•FIRECRACKERSUse of firecrackers with high noise level may harm the human hearing system. specially sensitive are small children.•CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIESNoise from construction of roads, buildings etc. near residential and silence zones needs to be controlled by effective starategies.Understanding noise levels..•Noise is measured as a sound level , in dB = 1/10 of a bel•Named after Alexander Graham Bell •Threshold of hearing is 0 dB •Sound of rocket launching is 180dB•Human ear tolerates up to 120dB•Noise Levels Sound intensities are measured in decibels (dB). For example, the intensity at the threshold of hearing is 0 dB, the intensity of whispering is typically about 10 dB, and the intensity of rustling leaves reaches almost 20 dB. Sound intensities are arranged on a logarithmic scale, which means that an increase of 10 dB corresponds to an increase in intensity by a factor of 10. Thus, rustling leaves are about 10 times louder than whispering. Why Noise is DangerousFor most people:•A life time’s continuous exposure to 70dB:No hearing impairment•More than 8 hrs/day in excess of 85dB: Potentially hazardous (likely to induce permanent hearing loss after several years)•8 hrs/day ~90dB: Hearing temporarily impaired•Levels above 90dB: Frequent exposure is potentially hazardousProlonged exposure to high decibel levels can lead to:•Impairment of hearing•Nervous and sleep disorders•Work disruption•Increases blood pressure•Negative cardiovascular effects•Increases breathing rate•Indigestion & stomach ulcersEffects of Noise Pollution•Hearing Loss•High Blood Pressure•Stress•Sleep Disturbance•Colour BlindnessAt very high levels which may occur at work or during certain noisy leisure activities, it may result in hearing loss by causing damage to the hair-cells in the cochlea in the inner ear.Rather than leading to significant adverse physiological responses. How to Avoid Noise Pollution •The Government should ensure the newmachines that Should be noise proof.•Air ports must be away from residential area.•The Sound horn symbol is to be in School Roads.Prevention of Noise Pollution•Pleasant Home•Bhagavan Baba says “Silence is God”.•We need to talk sweetly to others.•Talk Less Work More.•Sound affects our ears so loud noise should be avoided.LEGISLATIONS ON NOISE CONTROL IN INDIARULES & LAWS1.Environmental (Protection) Act, 19862.Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 19813.Factories Act, 19484.Motor Vehicles Act, 19885.Indian Penal Code –Sections 268, 290 & 2916.Criminal Procedure Code –Section 133w of Torts8.Local Acts/Rules regulating loud speakers etc.2 (c)‘Authority’ -includes District Magistrate, Police Commissioner, or any other officer not below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police 3Ambient Noise Standards, prescribed in schedule.5.Public address systemI)Written permission required from authority ii)Not to be used between 10:00 pm –6:00 am iii)Use permitted between 10.00 pm to 12.00 midnight for 15 days during cultural or religious festivals in a calendar year7.Public complaint I)If noise level exceeds the ambient noise standards by 10dB(A),complaint to the authorityii)Authority to take action 8.Power to prohibit –by Prescribed authorityNOISE POLLUTION (REGULATION & CONTROL) RULES, 2000(Notified under EPA, 1986)AIR (PREVENTION & CONTROL OF POLLUTION) ACT, 1981•Noise was included in the definition of air pollutant in the Air(Prevention&Control of Pollution)Act by an amendmentin1987.Ambient noise standards have been notified underAir Act,in1990.•This Act covers noise from industries/trade.•Implementing agency-SPCBsMOTOR VEHICLES ACT, 1988.•Sections119and120of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules,1989,deals with reduction of noise from motor vehicle.•Section119states that‘every motor vehicles shall befitted with an electric horn or other device approved by BIS’.•Section120requires that every motor vehicle shall be fittedwith a device(silencer)which reduces the noise that would otherwise made by escape of exhaust gases from the engine. It also specifies that every motor vehicle shall be so constructed and maintained as to conform to the noise standards for motor vehicles.FACTORIES ACT, 1948The Factories Act does not contain any specific provision for noise pollution control. However, in third Schedule under Section s89 and 90of the Act, ‘noise induced hearing loss’ is mentioned as a notifiable disease.Under Section89of the Act,any medical practitioner who detects any notifiable disease, including noise induced hearing loss,in a worker, has to report the case to the Chief Inspector of Factories, along with all other relevant information.Failure to do so is a punishable offence.Noise limits for work zone area have been prescribed in Model Rules framed under the Factories Act,1948.NOISE LIMITS FOR FIRE-CRACKERSGSR 682(E), October 5, 1999.▪THE MANUFACTURE,SALE OR USE OF FIRE-CRACKERS GENERATING NOISE LEVEL EXCEEDING125dB(AI)OR145dB(C)PK AT4METERS DISTANCE FROM THE POINT OF BURSTING,SHALL BE PROHIBITED.▪FOR INDIVIDUAL FIRE-CRACKER CONSTITUTING THE SERIES(JOINED FIRE-CRACKERS)THE ABOVE MENTIONED LIMIT BE REDUCED BY5LOG 10(N)dB,WHERE N=NUMBER OF CRACKERS JOINED TOGETHER.These shall be applicable at the manufacturing stage.Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organization(formerly Dept.of Explosives)is the implementing agency.LET US MAKE EARTH BETTER PLACE TO LIVE。

噪音污染 英语作文

噪音污染英语作文Noise Pollution。
Noise pollution is a growing problem in today's world. With the increasing population and urbanization, the level of noise pollution has also risen significantly. This has led to a number of negative effects on both the environment and human health.Firstly, noise pollution can have a detrimental impact on human health. Prolonged exposure to high levels of noise can lead to a number of health issues such as stress, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and even hearing loss. It can also have a negative impact on cognitive functions, leading to decreased productivity and performance. In addition, noise pollution can also lead to an increase in blood pressure and heart diseases, further contributing to the decline in overall health.Furthermore, noise pollution can also have a negativeimpact on the environment. It can disrupt the natural habitat of wildlife, leading to a decrease in their population and biodiversity. It can also interfere with the natural processes of ecosystems, leading to imbalances and disruptions in the food chain. In addition, noise pollution can also contribute to air and water pollution, as it can disrupt the natural processes of these ecosystems. In order to address the issue of noise pollution, it is important for both individuals and governments to take action. Individuals can take steps to reduce their own contribution to noise pollution by using quieter equipment and machinery, reducing the use of loud music and other sources of noise, and being mindful of their noise levels in public spaces. Governments can also take action by implementing and enforcing noise regulations, investing in noise-reducing infrastructure, and promoting public awareness and education on the issue. In conclusion, noise pollution is a growing problemthat has a number of negative effects on both human health and the environment. It is important for both individualsand governments to take action in order to address this issue and reduce the level of noise pollution in our world. By taking steps to reduce our contribution to noise pollution, we can help to create a healthier and more peaceful environment for ourselves and future generations.。

Noise Pollution 噪音污染

Noise Pollution 噪音污染Noise is among the most pervasive pollutants today. Noise from road traffic, jet planes, jet skis, garbage trucks, construction equipment, manufacturing processes, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and boom boxes, to name a few, are among the audible litter that are routinely broadcast into the air.Noise negatively affects human health and well-being. Problems related to noise include hearing loss, stress, high blood pressure, sleep loss, distraction and lost productivity, and a general reduction in the quality of life and opportunities for tranquillity. We experience noise in a number of ways. On some occasions, we can be both the cause and the victim of noise, such as when we are operating noisy appliances or equipment. There are also instances when we experience noise generated by others just as people experience second-hand smoke. While in both instances, noises are equally damaging, second-hand noise is more troubling because it has negative impacts on us but is put into the environment by others, without our consent.Noise pollution is not easily defined. Part of the difficulty lies in the fact that in some ways it is different from other forms of pollution. Noise is transient; once the pollution stops, the environment is free of it. This is not the case for chemicals, sewage, and other pollutants introduced into the air, soil, or water. The definition of noise itself is highly subjective. To some people the roar of an engine is satisfying or thrilling; to others it is an annoyance. Loud music may be enjoyable or a torment, depending on the listener and the circumstances. Broadly speaking, any form of unwelcome sound is noise pollution, whether it is the roar of a jet plane overhead or the sound of a barking dog a block away. The actual loudness of a sound is only one component of the effect it has on human beings. Other factors that have to be considered are the time and place, the duration, the source of the sound, and whether the listener has any control over it. Most people would not be bothered by the sound of a 21-gun salute on a special occasion. On the other hand, the thump-thump of a neighbour's music at 2 a.m., even if barely audible, could be a major source of stress. The decibel (dB) (分贝) is a measure of sound intensity; that is, the magnitude of the fluctuations in air pressure caused by sound waves. In fact, an increase of just 3 dB means twice as much sound, and an increaseof 10 dB means ten times as much sound.A sound pressure level of 0 dB represents the threshold of hearing in the most sensitive frequency range of a young, healthy ear, while the thresholds of tickling or painful sensations in the ear occur at about 120 to 130 dB. There is fairly consistent evidence that prolonged exposure to noise levels at or above 80 dB can cause deafness. The amount of deafness depends upon the degree of exposure.Noise can cause annoyance and frustration as a result of interference, interruption and distraction. Exposure to noise is also associated with a range of possible physical effects including: colds, changes in blood pressure, other cardiovascular changes, increased general medical practice attendance, problems with the digestive system and general fatigue.。
