Under the influence of these two core values and patterns of social developments, there exists a big gap between American and Chinese attitudes to love and marriage which is also reflected in the TV serials. From the angle of cross-culture, this thesis makes a comparison of American TV serial How I Met Your Mother and Chinese TV serial Down-to-earth Marriage to show the different attitudes towards love and marriage which form in different cultural backgrounds. They are parts of human social life. All the aspects of social life reflect the cultural differences. Therefore, the different attitudes to love and marriage come from the cultural pergences. It is known to all that China and America are the main representatives of eastern and western cultures formed in different histories running through the whole process of human development. People’s thoughts and behaviors are mostly influenced by their own cultures. They have the distinct characteristics of nationality, locality, historicity and the spirit of the time. With the development of society, the cultural communication between China and America becomes easy and frequent. The traditional Chinese attitudes to love and marriage is suffering the shock of new social factor which associates with the only child policy. Meanwhile, with the process of culture blending, American culture is also---------------------------------------------------------------范文最新推荐------------------------------------------------------ experiencing changes. This paper, based on the two TV serials How I Met Your Mother and Down-to-earth Marriage, aims to make a comparison of Chinese and American attitudes to love and marriage.2Cultural Values Influencing Views on Love and MarriageAfter World War Ⅱ, a series of movements, which were the American Civil Rights Movement, the Women’s Liberation Movement, the Counterculture Movement and so on, shook the old ideology. Extreme inpidualism arose in America resulting in the Trust Crisis of American system7 / 12after the Great Depression, the Vietnam War, Watergate Affair and large-scale democratic movement. It wasn’t restricted to any external factor. Moreover, in Extreme inpidualism, the meaning of personal life is to do what people like. Therefore, inpidualism in this period exhibited the negative and decadent side.Extreme inpidualism was in vogue until the late of 1980s. After the Cold War, there were a lot of social problems forcing Americans to reexamine the relationship between personal value and social benefit. People still attached importance to the achievement of personal value, self-respect, self-reliance and self-improvement. But meanwhile, most Americans could consider other’s benefits above theirs in some situations.Although American inpidualism went through many stages, the core of inpidualism never changed. That is the---------------------------------------------------------------范文最新推荐------------------------------------------------------pursuit of freedom, human rights, self-reliance and equality. Modern American people not only inherit the tradition, but also promote the idea of inpidualism. No matter what things they do, they always keep to its principle. Inpidualism is regarded as the most distinct characteristics of America.2.1.2 American Sexual ConceptThe theories of the modern sexual science affected the Sexual Revolution. Moreover, at that time, the economic prosperity in American society changed people’s life style to a large extent. The desire for material and enjoyment was stronger than ever.In the 20th century, the premarital sex happened frequently, and Women’s Liberation Movement9 / 12further developed. Women had the courage to fight for the sexual freedom. People had no worries about sex due to the legalization of oral contraceptiveand abortion. Therefore, to many women, sexual activities became unfettered and permissive. Furthermore, the development of technology propelled the progress of media industry. The things about sex were spread over quickly and had a great influence on American society.Based on the inpidualism, although the American family ties are weak, a main line running through American family value is an equal love. In American families, they focus on the equality. Under the influence of the inpidualism, family members are independent. They have their own right to make a decision, even though parents should respect their children’s wills. Everyone should be responsible for himself or herself. In American families, making a decision tends to be more democratic. Parents are no longer the---------------------------------------------------------------范文最新推荐------------------------------------------------------ absolute leader in family.Adhering to inpidualism, American people also lay stress on self-reliance and independence in the life of marriage. Although a couple gets married, they still manage their own finance by their own. They share their obligation, and one partner can’t interfere in another’s finance. They consider this a kind of privacy.2.2 Cultural Values in ChinaAs a representative of eastern culture, Chinese culture derives from Confucian Culture which has developed for several thousand years in China, exerting an edifying influence on every Chinese. Confucian Culture aims at pursuing harmony and achieving harmony.11 / 122.2.1 Chinese Core Value: CollectivismThe formation of Chinese Collectivism stems from three factors in brief: geography, life style and Confucian Culture.First of all, geography is the initial factor. It is known to all that the Chinese nation was living and multiplying gradually in the middle or lower reaches of the Yellow River. Natural barricades prevent China from connecting with the neighbor countries, such as the deserted Siberian, Mongolian Plateau in the north, high mountain ridges in the west, and the Himalaya Mountains in the southwest. In mainland, there are also a mass of mountains, deserts and rivers piding the continent up. Due to this geographical pision, people have to live in their own limited areas for whole life. Therefore, people must live with neighbors in harmony. 英文论文中美婚恋观比较(4):。
中美家庭之间的差异英语作文
中美家庭之间的差异英语作文English:In general, there are several differences between Chinese and American families. One of the main differences lies in the structure of the family. Traditional Chinese families tend to have a more hierarchical structure with clear roles and responsibilities for each family member based on age and seniority. In contrast, American families tend to have a more egalitarian structure, with family members having more equal rights, responsibilities, and decision-making power. Another difference lies in the concept of independence. Chinese families often emphasize the importance of interdependence and the collective well-being, while American families tend to place a greater emphasis on individualism and independence. Additionally, the approach to education and parenting differs between the two cultures. Chinese parents often place a strong emphasis on academic success and may have high expectations for their children, while American parents often prioritize the development of their children's creativity, critical thinking skills, and independence.中文翻译:总的来说,中美家庭之间存在几个不同之处。

中外婚姻差异英语作文Title: Cultural Differences in Marriage Between Chinese and Western Cultures。
Marriage is a sacred institution that varies significantly across different cultures. When comparing Chinese and Western marriages, one can observe distinctive customs, traditions, and societal norms that shape the dynamics of relationships. This essay explores the disparities between Chinese and Western marriages, focusing on aspects such as family involvement, gender roles, and wedding ceremonies.Family Involvement:In Chinese culture, family plays a central role in the process of marriage. Parents often take an active role in arranging marriages or exerting influence on theirchildren's choice of partners. Filial piety, a fundamental Confucian value, emphasizes respect and obedience toparents' wishes. As a result, Chinese couples may face pressure to marry someone approved by their families, and the decision-making process often involves considering familial expectations and preferences. On the contrary, Western marriages typically prioritize individual autonomy and personal choice. While familial support and approval are valued, the ultimate decision to marry rests with the individuals involved. Western couples have more freedom to choose their partners based on compatibility, love, and shared values, rather than solely on familial considerations. This independence in decision-making can lead to greater personal fulfillment but may also result in strained family relationships if parents disapprove of the chosen partner.Gender Roles:Another significant difference between Chinese and Western marriages lies in gender roles and expectations within the relationship. Traditional Chinese gender roles are often more rigid, with distinct expectations for menand women. Historically, men have been viewed as the primary breadwinners and decision-makers, while women are expected to prioritize family duties and domestic responsibilities. In Western societies, there has been a gradual shift towards more egalitarian gender roles within marriages. Women have gained greater independence and opportunitiesfor education and employment, leading to a more balanced division of household labor and decision-making responsibilities. Modern Western marriages often prioritize equality and mutual respect between partners, with both individuals contributing to financial support and decision-making processes.Wedding Ceremonies:Wedding ceremonies in Chinese and Western cultures also differ in their customs and traditions. Chinese weddings are often steeped in centuries-old rituals and symbolism, reflecting cultural beliefs and values. Traditional Chinese weddings may include customs such as the exchange ofbetrothal gifts, the tea ceremony, and the use of auspicious colors like red and gold. These ceremonies serve to honor ancestors, bring blessings upon the couple, and symbolize the union of two families.Western wedding ceremonies vary widely depending on cultural and religious backgrounds, but they often emphasize personalization and individual expression. Couples have the freedom to tailor their weddings toreflect their unique personalities and preferences. Western weddings may include customs such as exchanging vows, exchanging rings, and hosting receptions with music, dancing, and elaborate decorations. The emphasis is often on celebrating love and commitment in the presence of family and friends. In conclusion, the institution of marriage manifests differently in Chinese and Western cultures due to variations in familial involvement, gender roles, and wedding traditions. While Chinese marriages tend to be influenced by familial expectations and adhere totraditional gender norms, Western marriages prioritizeindividual choice, equality, and personal expression. Understanding these cultural differences is crucial for fostering cross-cultural awareness and respecting diverse perspectives on love and marriage.。

中外婚姻观差异英文作文Differences in Marriage Perspectives between China and the West。
Marriage is a fundamental institution that reflects the cultural values and social norms of a society. While the concept of marriage is universal, the perspectives and expectations surrounding it can vary significantly across different cultures. This essay will explore the key differences in marriage perspectives between China and the Western world. One of the most notable differences lies in the role of the family in the marriage process. In traditional Chinese culture, marriage is often viewed as a union between two families, rather than just between two individuals. The approval and involvement of the extended family, particularly the parents, are crucial in the decision-making process. This is rooted in the Confucian emphasis on filial piety and the collective well-being of the familyunit. In contrast, Western marriage traditions tend to place a greater emphasis on individual autonomy and the romantic relationship between the two partners.Another significant difference is the importance placed on practical considerations in the marriage decision. In China, factors such as financial stability, social status, and compatibility in terms of family background and values often take precedence over personal attraction or emotional connection. This is partly due to the traditional Chinese belief that a successful marriage is essential for social stability and the continuation of the family lineage. Western marriage, on the other hand, is more heavily influenced by the idea of romantic love and the pursuit of individual happiness. The role of gender in marriage also differs between the two cultures. In traditional Chinese society, there is a more pronounced gender hierarchy, with the husbandtypically holding a higher status and more decision-making power within the household. This is reflected in the practice of patrilocal residence, where the bride movesinto the groom's family home after marriage. In contrast, Western marriage tends to emphasize greater gender equality, with both partners having more equal rights and responsibilities within the relationship. The expectations and responsibilities of marriedcouples also vary. In China, the primary focus of marriageis often on fulfilling familial duties, such as bearing children, caring for the elderly, and maintaining thefamily's social standing. The individual's needs anddesires may be subordinate to the collective interests of the family. Western marriage, on the other hand, places a stronger emphasis on personal fulfillment, self-expression, and the pursuit of individual goals and aspirations within the marital relationship.Furthermore, the attitudes towards divorce and remarriage differ significantly between the two cultures. Historically, divorce has been more socially acceptable and less stigmatized in the West, where it is often seen as a means of escaping an unhappy or dysfunctional marriage. In China, however, divorce has traditionally been viewed as afailure to uphold the Confucian values of loyalty and harmony within the family, and it has often been accompanied by social stigma and personal shame. These cultural differences in marriage perspectives have important implications for cross-culturalrelationships and marriages. Couples from China and the West may face challenges in reconciling their divergent expectations and values, which can lead to conflicts and misunderstandings. Effective communication, mutual understanding, and a willingness to compromise areessential for navigating these cultural differences and building a successful cross-cultural marriage. In conclusion, the differences in marriage perspectives between China and the Western world are rooted in their respective cultural traditions, social structures, and value systems. While these differences can present challenges, they also offer opportunities for cross-cultural learning and the enrichment of the marital experience. By understanding and respecting these cultural differences, couples can work towards building stronger, more fulfilling, and more harmonious marriages that transcend national and cultural boundaries.。

中西方爱情观对比英语作文
中西方爱情观对比英语作文Love, a universal emotion, is perceived differently in Western and Eastern cultures. In the West, love is often viewed as a passionate and individualistic pursuit, emphasized by concepts like romantic love and soulmates. Western societies celebrate the idea of finding "the one" and prioritize personal happiness in relationships.Conversely, Eastern cultures like those in China and Japan often place greater emphasis on familial and societal harmony in relationships. Love is seen as a duty and commitment to one's family, community, and ancestors. Arranged marriages, once common in the East, reflect this collective approach to love, where the union of two individuals extends beyond personal desires to encompass broader social considerations.Despite these differences, both Western and Eastern perspectives on love share a common goal: the pursuit of connection and fulfillment. While Western ideals focus on personal fulfillment and romantic love, Eastern values prioritize stability, duty, and interconnectedness within the larger social fabric.中文翻译:爱情作为一种普遍情感,在西方和东方文化中有着不同的看法。

They have nothing, both feel sad, and become not love each other. The second pair of lover, Xu Jing and Liu Baisheng,is coming from Shanghai, they come here to have their honeymoon. Baisheng is a workaholic, he seldom care about Xu Jing. Before they went to Yunnan, Xu Jing found herself in a pregnant at her working place. Then she become worried about this. For some reasons, may be the place is so beautiful, the two young people fall in love with each other. In Ziming’s heart, Liuhai is a greenhand on this. She even don’t know what she should do next.3.State the different value of marriage about the two films 3.1 The values of selecting spouse in Chinese and American:Influenced by traditional culture and ethics, today’s parents still stern to their children. They let their children followed the road they have already designed. On this case, many people lack the ability of independent and this ability can just better embodies in marriage. When someone thinks he or she shall get married, they will ask for their parents’ideas about their decision. On the issues of selecting spouse, parents still “make a difference”. But, in contract, in American, whether man and woman get married is about whether the two can match each other or go along with each other, they don’t care about other’s attitude towards marriage. When this different value in China and American transferred with time, the value of marriage will also changed.Culture of history is the major factors to influence the differencevalue of selecting spouse. According to a survey report of Nankai university, the main different value of selecting spouse contains: in China, when selecting spouse, in the description of the self, age, education level, marriage history appearance, good, conduct, have or haven’t children are almost the same. While in height, professional, housing, health, this three items, there are significant difference, and man is more than woman. In Boston, in the description of self, age, height, education level, race, religion, marriage hiatory “intelligent”, “have a sense of humor,”“artistic breath” have no significant differences between male and female. While in career, hobbies, “love sport”or “friendly”, “love life”several are significant differences. Among them, man prefer to describe them in career, “love sport”, “love life” three items. However, women tend to the two items, hobbies, “friendly”.3.2The attitudes toward marriage in Chinese and AmericanThe main reason of the different value of selecting spouse is the different value toward marriage. The Chinese pay attentions to interpersonal relationship, they think that marriage is not just the combination of two individuals. Parents let their children get married, in the surface, they get their children married; in fact, the parents do this is for the whole family. In traditional Chinese society, marriage is the biggest things in the whole family; everyone in the family is involved. From this, we can see the Chinese wedding is for others, man get marriedis to breed, is to the family’s bounden duty and held a kind of responsibility. For them, getting married is a family’s bounden duty, and the more important is one of their rights. As a member of society, they have a right to response to their future and various demands.American is a young country which is established by immigrants from many areas with many countries nation. American’s various cultural and social environments make many people accept such life creed: every man for himself fund God for us all. They think that marriage is the combination of two individuals, as long as men and women both reach the legal age, no one have the right to interfere. If they meet some life difficulties, as long as they don’t ask their parents or others for help, no one can consult them, they tend to ask the marriage counselors for advice. The marriage counselor is just analysis the problem, help them to better understand each other, and not give the certain suggestion. Of course, from the basic view, American get married for themselves, mainly is looking for a permanent members of the opposite sex life partner thus on physiology, psychologically, social getting enough, so they get married only by them selves. Marriage is their personal right, is a kind of form and not a kind of responsibility.3.3 The attitude towards divorce in China and AmericaThe Chinese people’s attitude toward divorceWith the development of economic in China, more and more peoplefind their own social position, and their own work. On the pressure of competition, the time the husband and wife to communicate with is less and less. This make Chinese divorce rates are on the rise. Chinese once divorced, they will seldom get married. In Chinese society, due to the emotional communication interpersonal comparative unobstructed, couples parents caused by emotional tension easily from other human emotions of relaxed. Such as husband and wife after quarrel, wife can return to home to rest for a couple of days, or looking for a good friend to pour out. Being a husband, he can chat with his friend in the teahouse. They will not divorced, even they do not love each other like before. Because, they need to care about others feeling from the society, and family pressures, so they will not divorced. While in America, the divorce attitude is known to all. Their divorce rate is higher. We often hear or see that the American married for 2 or 3 times in their whole life. Why American in easily to divorce? Why the US appear thia kind of social phenomenon? From the above analysis, we can conclude that American people’s mentality genus: probing and advocating new, enterprising type. American is a multi- cultural country, Americans respect individual freedom, advocating of self-reliance, their personal problems is solved not by their relatives and friends directly, they will directly depend on the government agencies. Because of American social system created people’s relationship without too much dependent, soemotional communication between people is thus reduced to the minimum. From a side, such human apathy phenomenon in American society reflect the relationship between the people is only interest and official type relationship. Marriage is a kind of emotional life, in the couple’s life, problems are not avoidable. In the US, emotional communication between people is limited, so the conflict is not easily deals with. From time goes by, they will finally hurt the other one. Due to the social customs, both sides are not easily to have the chance to talk to the other one, finally, they will break up.conclusionWith the development of society and the exchange of Chinese and western culture, people’s value toward marriage also changed in some minor parts. But the basic idea still has not changed, because a nation to endure at the world, not only have to adapt to the trend of the times and the ability of the coexistence with other ethnic groups, the more important is to stick their own culture fundamental, entrenched the source of national spirit to keep their own social characteristics.。

People believe in finding a soulmate and marrying for love, rather than for practical reasons or family obligations. In contrast, traditional Chinese culture places a strong emphasis on family approval and social status whenit comes to marriage. Arranged marriages were common in the past, and even today, many Chinese people still consider their parents' opinion when choosing a partner.Westerners tend to value independence and personal freedom in relationships. They believe in open communication, equality, and mutual respect between partners. Divorce is also more socially acceptable in Western societies, as people believe in the importance of personal happiness and fulfillment. On the other hand, Chinese culture values harmony and stability in relationships. Confucian values such as filial piety and loyalty play a significant role in shapingpeople's attitudes towards marriage. Divorce is often frowned upon, as it is seen as a failure to uphold family values and responsibilities. In terms of gender roles, Western societies have made significant progress towards gender equality in relationships. Women are encouraged to pursue their own careers and interests, and both partners share responsibilities in the household. In China, traditional gender roles are still prevalent in many aspects of society. 中美婚姻观的差异英文论文汇总
中美婚姻观的差异英文论文汇总On Differences of the Marriage Concept betweenChinese and AmericanIntroductionTraced back to primitive society, there is the so-called marriage. It is the law of nature that opposites attract makes the mammals live and multiply. Therefore, marriage is a normal and necessary social phenomenon. Because of the different social environment, the human concept of marriage and the mode of combination are also different. The culture of China and America is different, especially the concept of marriage. The United States is a cross-cultural social group and it is composed of many cultural groups of society. The Americans’ mentality are characterized by freedom love, independent and the fondness of exploring, adventuring and enterprising; While we Chinese mentality mainly is a kind of care and the consciousness of compassion. It is based on the two different points of view that people's understanding of marriage is different. About the marriage, someone vividly metaphor: "for the Chinese, marriage is more like a commercial activity, so called management marriage; for Americans, marriage is more like playing house, full of freedom. So there are much differences of marriage concept between China and America.Chapter One the Differences Reflected in the Marriage Concept Between Chinese and American Ancient and modern, the human natures are the same; they all have desires, joys, sorrows and the psychology of love and hate. But due to the differences of geographical environment, historical background, development process and other aspects, each nation and has itsfeatures. The differences may reflect in many aspects, such as the ways of choosing mates, wedding ceremony and so on.1.1 the Ways of Choosing Mates1.1.1 the Chinese Way of Choosing MatesSince ancient times, “be matched for marriage” is the ways of choosing mates in China, which means both sides are well-matched in social and economic status. The idea is so ingrained in China. Although, since the reform and opening, with the development of economy and the deepening of the communication between Chinese and western culture, the younger generation is no longer subject to the constraints of China's traditional thought and they are freedom to choose their mates, most of people can not get rid of the constraint of society and family. If free love to choose the mates, first of all, they must be approved by their parents. If there is big disparity between two family conditions, paren ts will not agree. If the man’s family condition is poor, her parents will never agree too. As a popular saying “The economic base determines the superstructure”. Only well material base can provide a stable life. No matter in rural or city, getting married is a large expense. As we all know, nowadays people are getting more and more reality. House is the precondition. If one man has house and car, he must be admired by many people. Before long, there is a hot debate in micro blog, which talks about how much it spends when a man gets married. The result shows it is very common that men married a daughter-in-law can spend hundreds of thousands. In a famous dating show, "if you are the one”, one female guest said, "she would rather cry in a BMW, than smile on the bicycle”. According to the internet, it reflects the current state of mind of many women. The TV plays series “The naked marriage age" reflects the reality of modern marriage: firstly, to get parents recognition; secondly, arrangement of pregnant plan; thirdly, solving financial difficulties. Besides, refusing the lure of the outside city and achieving the unity on the concept of life. This is all sorts of problems after 80s.1.1.2 the American Way of Choosing MatesThe freedom to choose mates is the dominant concept in America. Because Americans have the characteristic of personalities. For love and mating, young Americans are completely based on their fondness. In America, men and women who in love care more about whether they are suitable, namely whether are fit in characters. They do not care about each other's family background, education level, and even religion. Parents will not interfere with their children but give their blessing. Marriage-seeking ad often can be seen in newspapers and magazines that, Chinese men list their accomplishments: degree, occupation, economic status, and so on. While American men list is their hobbies and characteristics. Because the American is looking for a partner, one that has similar tastes and interests, one that have mutual affinity. Americans do not care much about other's appearance, stature and age. A beautiful Chinese woman was marry to an American, she jokingly asked her husband if he felt a little proud when took her out to meet his friends, he asks why, when he was told the reason, he became more puzzled. He said that I marry you not because what you are so call "good condition", but feel that we share common interest and pursue a similar life. He also said certainly that you are beautiful, but why others envyme? This reflects the American way of choosing matesaccording to ones disposition and hobby, without caring too much about each other's family background, appearance and economic conditions.1.2 the Attitude Toward Marriage1.2.1 the Chinese Attitude Toward MarriageOne of the main reasons resulted in different way of choosing mates between Chinese and American is that they have significant difference on their attitude toward marriage. Chinese people pay attention to interpersonal relation of interdependence, marriage is absolutely not the simple combination of two individuals. Parents help their sons to marry daughter-in-law, which superficially hope that his son can soon organize his own family, but actually it is for the whole family. In the ancient times, marriage is an important event among families. Even the relatives of many generations would be involved in. Undoubtedly , the newly married couple would worship the ancestors as soon as they enter in the family. Recently, a popular topic "the feeling of happiness”, although most people living standards have improved, the feeling of happiness fell instead. Marriage directly affect the feeling of happiness. Chinese people treat marriage like a Chinese man for a woman; they have no equal point of view. According to a sample survey of the Tianjin women's federation, 81.7% of people treat the children as an important factor to maintain marriage. From that, we can definitely say that the marriage of Chinese people is for others, as the marriage is mainly for carrying on ancestral line, serving for the old, which is seen as the obligation and responsibility of the family. Besides, Chinese women are the most patience women in the world. The thinking of “Marriage woman likes the water which is puling out.” They t hink after marriage theyalready an individual; and need to solve her problem by her self. Chinese people have better tolerance is also because they love to pin their desire toachieve in the next generation. Having this hope, to bear an unhappy relationship in a marriage, is not a big deal any more.Of course, with the development of the society, more and more people, especially young people gradually get rid of the bondage of some traditional concepts. They no longer simply think that marriage is just for carrying on ancestral line. For them, marriage is not only a kind of family obl igation but the personal right. What’s more, as a member of society, they have the inexorable right to be responsible for their own life and future.1.2.2 the Americans Attitude Towards MarriageAmerica is a young country, which consists of many parts of the world and many immigrants. Until now there is still a large number of immigrants enter the country every year. They have a strong personal struggle and competitive consciousness. The diversity of American culture and social environment make many people to accept such life creed: Every man for himself and God for us all; every man is the architect of his own fortune. They think marriage is a combination of two individuals, as long as both sides reach the legal age to married, the third party has no rights to intervene. Americans are independent and reality, very few people marry for forming a f amily. In American’s character, equality plays a significant role. The realization of being equality is deep in every American’s heart. Compared with Chinese people, they have less ability to tolerate the partner. They never oppress their affection. They know it very clear that as an individual, they have rights to gain equality, even in spiritual or marital. They think more highly of the romance in marriage, theyhave higher expectation of the quality of their life. They would not to bear in marriage. The main purpose is to find a lasting heterosexual life partner, so that they can satisfy themselves in physical, psychological and social communication. So they must choose a congenial people. They consider that marriage is one of their individual rights but not the obligation; it is a kind of form rather than a responsibility. When asked what is thepurpose of marriage, three-quarters of Americans said that it is the "mutual happiness and fulfillment" of adults rather than "birth and raising children”. They t hink that love is the guarantee to maintain a lasting marriage.1.3 the Wedding Ceremony1.3.1 Jollification - Chinese WeddingTraditional Chinese weddings are always filled with red things to bring auspicious blessings and respects. And even wedding customs reflect traditions from Chinese philosophy. The Chinese regard the color red as the symbol of happiness, success, luck, faith and growth. They like red very much, which comes from worship of the Sun. In traditional Chinese weddings, there are double Xi characters in red, red scarves, red flowers and the bride wears a red coat. The wedding ceremony shows harmony between nature and people. A marriage is not only a merger of the couple; traditionally, it symbolizes the merger of two families. So the wedding ceremony should reflect the holiness of marriage, drawing the attention of relatives and friends. There is harmony between nature and the people inside. Inviting relatives and friends to the wedding symbolizes the formality and the relationships between people. During a marriage, two families become in-laws. The ceremony reflects the importance and family status of the parents. After the ceremony, the bride andthe groom usually burn money and food as offerings to the gods. As the fire consumes the offerings accompanied by the sound of firecrackers, god accepts the gift, indicating that there is harmony between nature and people. The sound of musical instruments in the wedding is usually loud to express the voice of the people. The sound should be loud enough to let nature know, and it also demonstrates the importance of the marriage. The food the bride eats has cultural significance in traditional weddings; the bride usually has red dates, peanuts, longans and melon seeds. The meaning is evident in theChinese pronunciation of these four foods. When they are said together, it sounds like "Have a baby soon."1.3.2 Solemn – American Wedding CeremonyIt all begins with engagement. Traditionally, a young man asks the father of his sweetheart for permission to marry her. If the father agrees, the man later proposes to her. Although most weddings follow long-held traditions, there's still room for American individualism. For example, the usual place for a wedding is in a church. But some people get married outdoors in a scenic spot. A few even have the ceremony while skydiving or riding on horseback! The couple may invite hundreds of people or just a few close friends. They choose their own style of colors, decorations and music during the ceremony. But some things rarely change. The bride usually wears a beautiful, long white wedding dress. She traditionally wears "something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue." The groom wears a formal suit or tuxedo. Several close friends participate in the ceremony as attendants, including the best man and the maid of honor. As the ceremony begins, the groom and his attendants standwith the minister, facing the audience. Music signals the entrance of the bride's attendants, followed by the beautiful bride. Nervously, the young couple repeats their vows. Traditionally, they promise to love each other "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health." Finally the minister announces the big moment: "I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss your bride!"At the wedding reception, the bride and groom greet their guests. On Differences of the Marriage Concept betweenChinese and AmericanIntroductionTraced back to primitive society, there is the so-called marriage. But due to the differences of geographical environment, historical background, development process and other aspects, each nation and has its features. If there is big disparity between two family conditions, parents will not agree. Before long, there is a hot debate inmicro blog, which talks about how much it spends when a man gets married. This reflects the American way of choosing mates according to ones disposition and hobby, without caring too much about each other's family background, appearance and economic conditions.1.2 the Attitude Toward Marriage1.2.1 the Chinese Attitude Toward MarriageOne of the main reasons resulted in different way of choosing mates between Chinese and American is that they have significant difference on their attitude toward marriage. The thinking of “Marriage woman likes the water which is puling out.” They think after marriage they already an individual; and need to solve her problem by her self. Americans are independent and reality, very few people marry for forming a family. In American’s character, equality plays a significant role. The realization of being equality is deep in every American’s heart. Compared with Chinese people, they have less ability to tolerate the partner. They never oppress their affection. They know it very clear that as an individual, they have rights to gain equality, even in spiritual or marital. They think more highly of the romance in marriage, they have higher expectation of the quality of their life. They think that love is the guarantee to maintain a lasting marriage.1.3 the Wedding Ceremony1.3.1 Jollification - Chinese WeddingTraditional Chinese weddings are always filled with red things to bring auspicious blessings and respects. After the ceremony, the bride and the groom usually burn money and food as offerings to the gods. As the ceremony begins, the groom and his attendants stand with the minister, facing the audience. Then they cut the wedding cake and feed each other a bite. Guests mingle while enjoying cake, punch and other treats. Later the bride throws her bouquet of flowers to a group of single girls. Tradition says that the one who catches the bouquet will be the next to marry.1.4 the Attitude Toward Divorce1.4.1 Chinese Attitude Toward DivorceWith the development of economy, more and more people have found their position in society and they have their own career. As a result of the social competition pressure, the time of communication between the couples seem to be less and less. Day after day they are alienated.
