Lesson Plan of Unit 8 When is your birthday?

(The Second Period)

一.Text Analysis:

Part 2a—2d and Grammar Focus of Section A will be covered in the second period.

In the first period,the students have learnt the twelve months of the year and the simpie dialogues about asking and answering the birthday dates.In this period,the students will learn the ordinal numbers from 1st to 31st by looking at a big wall calendar and listening to the conversation of 2b.The key function is to talk abou t people’s birthdays.The activities in this period oral,listening practice of the target language.

二.Teaching Goals:

1.The students will be able to talk about the dates,such as February

28th,September 2nd and so on.

2.The students will be able to talk about their own birthdays and their

classmates’ and parents’,They will be able to use the useful structures,such as “When is yours bithday? My birthday is Novermber 11th. When is Liu Ping’s birthday? Her birthday is March 3rd. When is your father’s bithday? His bithday is December 5th.”

3.The students will be able to remember some special dates,such as,March

8th ,Theachers’ Day,Children’s Day is June 1st.

三.Teaching Procedures

Step 1:Review and check. ( 3 minutes )

1)Help the students revise the twelve months of the year by asking:

T:How many months do we have in a year?

Ss:We have twelve months in a year.

T:What are they?

Ss: They are January,February,March,···,December.(class work)

2)Ask some students to spell the twelvewords by choosing one of these cards

on which the twelve months have been written in Chinese.(Individual work)

【设计说明】通过师生回答,很快把学生引入本课的学习上。在通过抽卡片拼写单词的游戏,让学生数量巩固所学十二个月的读写,为本节讲学的对话打好基础。

Step 2:Lead-in and presentation.( 15 minutes )

1)In Unit 7 ,the students have learnt the cardinal numbers.So ask them to

count from one to thirty-one as a warming-up.

2)The teacher takes out a wall calendar and says,“There are thirty-one days

in a month.Sometimes there are thirty days.February has only 28 or 29

days.”The teacher points at the calendar about January and says,“This is the

first day in January.This is the second/third/fourth/···day in January.”

3)Help the students to say the ordinal numbers.And also help them find out

the spelling regularity.

4)Theteacher writes them on the blackboard.Ask the students to pay more

attention to these words:first,second,third,fifth,eighth,ninth,twelfth,twentieth

and thirty-first.Then teach:twentieth/thirtieth/fortieth/···/ninetieth.

5)Sum up and remember the spelling regularities:基变序很容易,第一二三

无规律,first`second`third要紧记,其他词尾加th,但第八少个t,

第九减去e,第五第十二同ve,ve要用f替,从第二十到九十,改y为

i,再加eth别忘记,第几十几的只把个位基变序。

【设计说明】通过看挂历上每月的日期由复习基数词自然过渡到学习序数词,学生头脑中有一个很强烈的对比。再由老师引导观察板书在黑板上的序数词,帮助学生归纳总结序数词拼写规律。这样能迅速激发学生学习兴趣,使他们省时高效记住这些序数词。

Step3:Listen and talk.( 5 minutes )

1)Listen and repeat.

Ask the students to listen to the recording and repeat each ordinal number

in 2a,Section A.Help them correct their pronunciation.

2)Listen and talk.

Play the recording several times.Ask the students if there are any numbers

that they find difficult to pronounce and work on theae separately.

3)Talk.

Ask the students to answer these questions.Then ask them to ask each

other these queations in Pairs.

a)What is the first/second/third/···/twelfth month of the year?

b)What is the month before/after December/···/January?

【设计说明】通过听录音重复这些序数词,学生能标准地读出来,让别人听得懂。然后又通过回答那两个问题,让学生把刚学到的序数词加在表月份的名称里进行应用,体现了学习语言就是要“学以致用”的宗旨。

Step4:Filling in the chart.( 5 minutes )

1)Look and say(Class Work)

Ask the students to look at these “Special-Day”names shown by the

teacher and say their dates.

2)Fill in the chart(Individual Work)

Ask the students to finish the following charts with the dates of the
