History of Hawaii
History The following years saw the development of Hawaii as a major tourist destination with numerous resorts, golf courses and shopping centers being built. To combat the increasing development, a number of state parks, wilderness sanctuaries and marine reserves have been established. In the 1970s, a Hawaiian cultural renaissance reasserted local cultural values in the face of tourist-brochure parodies. In the past few years, sovereignty has become a key political issue. While some Hawaiian groups favor the restoration of the monarchy, other native groups are calling for a Hawaiian nation within the USA and the return of crown lands taken during annexation. In November 1993, US President Bill Clinton signed a resolution apologizing for the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom 100 years earlier.
Dancing Hula
Like many other traditional dance forms, hula was heavily discouraged by missionaries and other representatives of Euro-America in the nineteenth century. It seemed to them immoral, and also a waste of time. But it survived in the countryside, and, as in the usual colonial/post-colonial stories, there was eventually a vigorous revival, headed by cultural loyalists.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
The Big Island's southernmost volcanoes, Mauna Loa and Kilauea, jointly constitute HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, thirty miles from Hilo and eighty from Kailua. It's possibly the most dramatic of all the US national parks； as well as two active volcanoes, of which at least one is likely to be erupting, it includes desert, arctic tundra, and the Wao Kele O Puna rainforest （where a muchopposed project is attempting to tap geothermal energy）。
