Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
----from Translation One 022 Alice’s adventures in wonderland is one of the greatest works by Lewis Carroll who is the Master of the world's top children's literature along with Andersen and the Grimm Brothers. It was his first storybook published in 1865, and met with great favor. Later, another remarkable work Alice in the mirror adventure in mind came out which was also a success. I read this book for the reading assignment but fell in love with it for its wonderful description about a dream.
It tells a fantastic dream of a girl named Alice who was boring and tired by her sister on the river bank and somehow got asleep. In her dream, she saw a White Rabbit with pink eyes run by her, what is remarkable is that it wore clothes and watch. Out of curiosity, she ran after the rabbit but fell into a dark hole where she had never been. The adventures began here. In this completely new world, the drink, fan, mushroom are something that changed her size, and after her change, she first attended a mad and dull tea party, later on came to the queen’s croquet ground where there were trials of the Knave of Hearts, and they were dreadfully fond of beheading people. She was angrily against the cruel queen, and was frightened by the pack of cards when actually some dead leaves flew down because of a gentle wind. She woke up finding that all of it was a dream, and I came to know it at the end of the book. I could not help admiring the creative mind of Lewis Carroll. With his ink and pen, he created Alice, the curious, brave,
clever and kind girl, the White Rabbit who lead her into the mysterious world, the Caterpillar who taught Alice how to change her height,The Duchess whose catch phrase is “All things can lead to a lesson”, and other vivid characters.
Except Alice, the Cheshire Cat is my favorite character. It grinned all the time, and helped Alice several times. If it were a real person in my life, it would be one of my close friends. The chapter I prefer is “Who stole the Tarts?”in which the Queen of Hearts wronged the Knaves of Hearts without evident, Alice felt indignant and ventured,“I don’t believe there is an atom of meaning in it.”I can see salt of the earth from Alice, and I believe that all the readers do. When I read about the queen’s bad-temper and her brutality, I got cross, too. When I was about 7years old, I dreamed that there was a shark in the poor near my home, and I was so frightened that I could not even cry for help, as the shark swam towards me, I Shocked to awakening. As far as I am concerned, Alice’s adventure was interesting but fearful.
However, Lewis Carroll wrote this book not only to tell a story but also to reflect human’s life just like any other excellent books. Because of its popularity, someone made it into a film. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a good book for children, and adults as well.
