In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing. What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations.范文:It is true that people in industrialised nations can expect to live longer than ever before. Although there will undoubtedly be some negative consequences of this trend, societies can take steps to mitigate these potential problems. As people live longer and the populations of developed countries grow older, several related problems can be anticipated. The main issue is that there will obviously be more people of retirement age who will be eligible to receive a pension. The proportion of younger, working adults will be smaller, and governments will therefore receive less money in taxes in relation to the size of the population. In other words, an ageing population will mean a greater tax burden for working adults. Further pressures will include a rise in the demand for healthcare, and the fact young adults will increasingly have to look after their elderly relatives. There are several actions that governments could take to solve the problems described above. Firstly, a simple solution would be to increase the retirement age for working adults, perhaps from 65 to 70. Nowadays, people of this age tend to be healthy enough to continue a productive working life. A second measure would be for governments to encourage immigration in order to increase the number of working adults who pay taxes. Finally, money from national budgets will need to be taken from other areas and spent on vital healthcare, accommodation and transport facilities for the rising numbers of older citizens. In conclusion, various measures can be taken to tackle the problems that are certain to arise as the populations of countries grow older.(265 words, band 9)。
Should animals be used in testing new drugs and procedures?Sample 1:Medical research involving animals has dramatically improved the health of the human race.(paraphrase)Without animal testing, the cure for polio would not exist and diabetics would suffer or die from their disease.(one side)Despite these benefits, some people believe that animals should not be used for testing medical techniques and drugs.(opposite side)This essay will outline the advantages of animal testing.(thesis)Sample 2:Every year, millions of animals undergo painful suffering or death as a result of scientific research into the effects of drugs, food additives, cosmetics and other chemical products.(paraphrase)While most people think animal testing is necessary,(one side) others are upset by what they see as needless suffering.(opposite side)This essay looks at some of the positive and negative aspects of animal testing. (thesis)Sample 3:Today, it is not uncommon to use animals for experimentation purposes in medical research or cosmetics business.(paraphrase)In this essay, I will look at the pros and cons of animal testing. I how to explain an idea真题举例:Topic: Should governments continue to finance public schools?Viewpoint: Governments should continue to finance public schools.Main body 1:First and foremost, government funding of public schools gives many children, especially those economically disadvantaged, opportunities to get proper education. Not all parents can afford to send their children to private schools because of the increasing tuition fees. Through this way, public schools play an important role in the society. They give more children opportunities to get proper education since these schools are cheaper and more affordable.Main body 2:Moreover,having sufficient funding means the ability to hire excellent teachers for public schools. If governments continue funding public schools, then these schools will have sufficient budget to pay for top caliber teaching staff. Excellent teachers do not come cheap most of the time. Their experience and knowledge should be well-comprehended. In other words, their salaries should be commensurate with their academic achievement.II How to give examples and facts真题举例:Topic: Do the negative influences of media outweigh its positive ones?Body paragraph:Sometimes, discussing the merits and demerits of the various forms of media is extremely complex. By this I mean the same thing can be both bad and good. For example, many people worry about the violence in TV programs and their effect on young people.Conversely, many people consider that these same programs are an opportunity for us to release our stronger emotions, our feelings of anger or anxiety. Topic: With the increasing use of mobile phones and computers, less people tend to write letters. Some people even think the skill of writing letters will disappear completely. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Body paragraph:In spite of all this, there are certain occasions when letters are still the number one choice. The wedding invitations always seem more formal and sincere if hand-written; holiday cards with ink will often delight us more; and a carefully written love letter may intrigue or move your beloved one more easily. So letter writing is still necessary even in this Internet era andsometimes unique with its physical being as against other virtual forms of communication. Clearly, there is still a place for the hand-written letter and there is no evidence that this place will be taken by technology in the future.III How to make comparison and contrast1. Topic: The advantages and disadvantages of performing daily tasks online. Body paragraph:It is clear that fulfilling some tasks without seeing people face to face is highly efficient. In the past,if we needed to buy something, we had to go to the shopping mall, but nowadays all can be done with a click of a mouse and the goods will be delivered home, even at a lower price. And if we want to make a transaction from one bank account to another, we do not have to go directly to a bank and wait for a desperately long queue; instead we may comfortably make use of the self-banking service at home provided access to the Internet. Thus, efficiency of work and life has been both highly improved owing to the technological advances.2. Topic: The importance of learning computer technologyBody paragraph:It is important that college students should learn adequate computer skills. This is an information age where the Internet is a master key to almost all the knowledge and information available. So a good understanding of the computer technology will give a student an edge in the society today. On the other hand, if one has little knowledge of computer skills, the student will probably lag behind the times, in danger of being excluded from what is going on in the world.3. Topic: Is the city life a better choice for children?Body paragraph:What is more, children can enjoy a more colorful life in cities. There are various cultural activities organized and more advanced facilities available for children to enjoy, such as exhibitions, galleries, museums and theaters. Therefore, in cities children are much more experienced and knowledgeable than those in the country, who live a simple and monotonous life and tend to be more unenlightened for lack of adequate information.IV How to classifySample Topic: Send children to boarding schools or day schools?Viewpoint: Children should be sent to boarding schools.Body paragraph:Boarding schools are ideal for parents whose work takes them aboard or who are otherwise unable to offer t heir children a “normal” home life after school and at weekends. The children are looked after by professionals and the children learn to be independent of their parents from an early age. Topic: Some people argue that teaching children of different abilities together benefits all of them. Others believe that intelligent children should be taught separately and given special treatment. Discuss both views and how do you think about it.Viewpoint: Students should be taught separately.Body paragraph:The most obvious advantages lies in the fact that it allows teachers to employ different pedagogic strategies suited to the particular group of pupils. For example, for the more intelligent students who are more likely to have a quicker mind and a stronger knowledge thirsty intention, teachers or tutors can include something more difficult or complex in their syllabus, catering for the special needs. On the other hand, some other students who are not that intelligent may be slow at learning or acquiring new knowledge or skills, a correspondingly suitable teaching strategy then is highly desirable. In this case, the separate teaching scheme is generally good for both groups of students, since teachers can thereafter design different courses and teaching methods catering for their special needs.(二) 驳论段写作Sample 1真题举例:Topic: Should costs of higher education be paid by the government? Viewpoint: The costs can be paid by government loads.Body paragraph:With a tendency to hold that higher education is no longer compulsory, many people then claim that it should be funded by students themselves instead of the government. This indeed reduces governments’ financial burden to a certain extent and it is argued that students’ motivation would be highly strengthened since they have paid a large amount of fees to obtain the access. But the downsides should not be neglected. That is mainly tosay, the economically disadvantaged groups, for example, children of impoverished farmers in remote rural areas and laid-off workers in cities, may be put at an extreme disadvantage, and therefore should be assured of an equal chance to access the university education by the government. Topic:Some people believe that air travel should be restricted because it causes serious pollution and uses up the world’s fuel resources. To what extent do you agree or disagree?Viewpoint: Disagree with the opinion.Body paragraph:Of course, there is no denying that traveling by plane produces greenhouse gases and is fuel-consuming. But one fact should be made clear that the main source of world’s emissions is private cars rather than airplanes. Moreover, alternative energies are being explored and some have already come into being. It is imaginable that in the near future we will be able to enjoy the journey from Beijing to London in planes powered by new energy. Topic: Should governments fund space exploration? Conclusion:To conclude,I am in support of the opinion that governments should fund space exploration. However, they should only allot a reasonable budget for this for the fact that their top priority is always to improve the living conditions of their citizens. Topic: Differences between countries are becoming less evident nowadays. People tend to have the same films, music, brands, TV channels, etc. To what extent do you think the disadvantages outweigh the advantages? Conclusion:Overall, I am quite optimistic about the prospect of an increasingly similar world. Of course, some minority groups may be put at a disadvantage for they cannot receive equal attention as the superpowers. So I also advocate that government or other bodies should make efforts to bring these minorities into the international horizon.。
Some people who have been in prison become good citizens later, and it is often argued that these are the best people to talk to teenagers about the dangers of committing a crime. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
It is true that ex-prisoners can become normal, productive members of society. I completely agree with the idea that allowing such people to speak to teenagers about their experiences is the best way to discourage them from breaking the law.
In my opinion, teenagers are more likely to accept advice from someone who can speak from experience. Reformed offenders can tell young people about how they became involved in crime, the dangers of a criminal lifestyle, and what life in prison is really like. They can also dispel any ideas that teenagers may have about criminals leading glamorous lives. While adolescents are often indifferent to the guidance given by older people, I imagine that most of them would be extremely keen to hear the stories of an ex-offender. The vivid and perhaps shocking nature of these stories is likely to have a powerful impact.
Writing Task 2 :Band 9Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive effects on children.Do you agree or disagree?Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.Write at least 250 wordsWriting:In today's modern world, computers are an essential part of everyday life. Around the globe, children often use computers from a very young age. Although it is important for children to participate in various well-balanced activities, in my opinion, children who use the computer daily are actually developing a critical skill for future success. The bases for my views are personal, academic, and professional. From a personal point of view, computers are an invaluable resource to help young people explore the world around them. For example, children who use Internet to satisfy their curiosity about diverse topics are already becoming independent learners. No child with a computer is ever bored! By starting early in their lives, children feel totally at ease around computers; they are also able to take advantage of the wide range of services computers provide. From an academic viewpoint, children have no choice but to master this technological invention. For instance, when I was in university, students brought their laptops to class to take notes, do research and exchange information. They wrote assignments, created presentations and developed databases. Children who build early confidence and experience in these abilities are at a distinct advantage over those who have not. From a professional perspective, the computer has found a permanent place in the workplace. Today, employers still pay to provide computer training to their employees. Tomorrow, corporations will expect prospective job applicants to already possess these critical job skills. Consequently, parents who encourage their child to use the computer for a reasonable period of time daily are in fact investing in the child's future career. In conclusion, there is no doubt that the computer as a technological tool is hereto stay. The sooner children become computer-literate, the better for many aspects of their future lives. Some people advocate death penalty for those who committed violent crimes. Others say that capital punishment is unacceptable in contemporary society.Describe advantages and disadvantages of death penalty and give your opinion.Write at least 250 wordsWriting:Many people believe that death penalty is necessary to keep security system efficient in the society. While there are some negative aspects of capital punishment, I agree with the view that without it we will become more vulnerable to violence.Death penalty can be considered unsuitable punishment for several reasons. The strongest argument is that we have no rights to kill other humans. Right to live is the basic right of any human being, and no one can infringe this right, irrespective of the person’s deeds. Moreover, innocent people can face wrongful execution. Such unfair sentences take away lives of innocent people and make other citizens lose faith in law and justice. And besides, sometimes criminals repent of their acts. In this case they should be given a second chance to improve themselves. However, I believe that capital punishment is necessary in the society. Firstly, it is an effective deterrent of major crimes. The best method to prevent a person from committing crime is to show the consequences of his or her actions. For example, the government of Pakistan has controlled the rate of terrorism by enforcing death penalties for the members of terrorist organisations. Secondly, the governments spend large sums of national budget on maintenance of prisoners. Instead, this money can be used for the development of the society and welfare of the people. To sum up, although capital punishment has some disadvantages, I think that it proves to be the best way of controlling criminals, lessening governmental expenses and preventing other people from doing crimes.Influence of human beings on the world's ecosystem is leading to the extinction of species and loss of bio-diversity.What are the primary causes of loss of bio-diversity?What solutions can you suggest?Write at least 250 wordsWriting:Despite knowing about biodiversity’s importance for a long time, human activity has been causing massive extinctions of different species. This essay will examine the main causes of loss of biodiversity and possible solutions of this problem. The two main causes of species extinction are change of their habitats and overexploitation of natural resources. When humans artificially transform the environment, they destroy vegetation and animals’ natural habitat. For instance, to build new roads people are cutting down the trees and cementing the soil, altering the environment. Because of that, a lot of species are dying out. Also, when the activities connected with capturing and harvesting a natural resource are too intense in a particular area, the resource becomes exhausted. For example, too frequent fishing doesn’t leave enough time for fish to reproduce and makes them disappear. In other words, human activities often deplete local flora and fauna and cause loss of bio-diversity.Some possible solutions to this problem are protecting natural areas and promoting awareness among people. By protecting areas where human activity is limited and avoiding overexploitation of its resources, we can save the untouched environment and prevent species from dying out. Moreover, the next step in fighting bio-diversity loss is informing the general population about the dangers of this problem. This way, people will be more conscious of the environment and won’t overuse or destroy its resources. To conclude, people’s activities that change the environment have negative impact on the world's ecosystem. However, we can significantly lessen the extinction of species by protecting natural areas and enlightening people as to this problem.Despite a large number of gyms, a sedentary lifestyle is gaining popularity in the contemporary world. What problems are associated with this? What solutions can you suggest?Write at least 250 wordsWriting:These days a sedentary lifestyle is becoming more and more popular despite a big number of sport facilities. This essay will discuss the main problems associated with this epidemic and propose some possible solutions to avoid them. The main problems caused by inactive lifestyle are obesity and various spine disorders. A growing number of body research shows that long periods of physical inactivity raise a risk of becoming overweight. This is because people burn fewer calories and easily gain weight. What’s more, a lot of studies show that so-called ‘sitting disease’ often results in posture and backbone problems. Due to constant sitting, person loses muscle tissue and curves spine, developing numerous spinal diseases. For example, it has been proven that about 80% of people experience backache at least once a week.In my opinion, the best solution to these problems is promoting active lifestyle. Firstly, millions of people stay less active because they use cars instead of walking. Therefore, an effective way to make people more active is to advertise walking and cycling as safe and attractive alternatives to motorized transport. Moreover, inactive lifestyle is gaining popularity because nowadays a lot of people prefer passive rest to workouts in the gym. And the best way to avoid the hazards of unhealthy living is to obtain a regular dose of physical activity. Thus, promoting gyms and regular exercising would increase the level of activity. In conclusion, leading a sedentary lifestyle causes a lot of health problems, including obesity and spinal diseases. The most effective solution is to increase the level of fitness among the society by advertising physical activity.Big salary is much more important than job satisfaction.Do you agree or disagree?Provide relevant examples if necessary.Write at least 250 words.Writing:It is often argued that it is more advantageous to choose a job with high wage, even if it doesn't appeal to you at all.I completely disagree with this opinion and think that job satisfaction is much more important than salary.First of all, I believe that job satisfaction gives people a sense of fulfillment that no money can guarantee. Even if someone is earning a high salary, but feels tensed and compromises with his conscience, this person won’t enjoy his life. While pursuing one’s interests will always bring pleasure and feeling of satisfaction. For example, a lot of famous researchers made their career choices not because of appealing wages, but because they were passionate about science. That’s why it’s more important to choose the kind of work that makes you happy than to look only at a high salary.Secondly, doing what you like keeps you motivated and therefore leads to a career growth. In other words, there is a strong relation between job satisfaction and productivity. People who love their jobs can easily excel in their fields of work and achieve better results than those, who put salary on the first place. For instance, Henry Miller decided to leave his everyday job despite a good wage and ventured to become a writer. And after enduring years of ups and downs he became one of the most famous and well-paid authors of the twentieth century. Thus, advantages of jobs that keep you satisfied outweigh the drawback of a low salary in a long-term perspective. To conclude, I strongly believe that job satisfaction is more beneficial than high salary because it makes people happy and motivated.。

Some people are all for it, thinking it's super important. Others, though, are like, "No way, Jose!" and they've got their own reasons too.2. 主体段(支持穿校服的理由增强集体感)Look, school uniforms are like a magic spell for creating a sense of unity among students. When everyone's dressed the same, it's like they're all part of one big, happy family. You can easily spot your schoolmates in a crowd, and it gives you this warm fuzzy feeling that you belong. It's not like when everyone's wearing their own crazy outfits. You might have some kids dressed like they're going to a rock concert, and others looking like they just rolled out of bed. With uniforms, there's no such chaos. It'slike everyone's on the same team, like the players in a football team all wearing the same jersey. There's a feeling of "we're in this together", and that's really precious for a school community.3. 主体段(反对穿校服的理由抑制个性)On the flip side, some folks think that school uniforms are just the worst. They say it's like putting students in a box and not allowing them to show their true colors. I mean, come on! Kids these days are all about expressing themselves. They've got their own unique styles, whether it's being a total hip hop fan or a preppy fashionista. Uniforms just squash all that. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. A studentmight be a super creative artist, but in a uniform, they just look like every other student. It's like hiding their light under a bushel.4.

Meanwhile, some people think that at present, there are too many choices for people to select. As fas as I am concerned, I totally agree with it.On one hand, more and more companies are established as the result of economic globalization. And these companies can not only provide people with enough job opportunities, they can also offer people a variety of products they make. However, in the past, there were not so many companies, and many people could only choose to spend their whole day in the farm and do their own business. On the other hand, people nowadays are having better life now than they did in the past as the result of economic development, which means that they have more money now, and they can afford to buy more things. We may see rich people have a lot of choices when they buy luxuries to show their social status, and normal people are richer than before, and most of them can buy things they want.Last but not least, the advent of the Internet has contributed a l ot to the increasing number of people’s choices. At present, we individuals could even sell our brand new or used things on the Internet. However, in the past, we did not have such platforms to sell the things we did not need at all.All in all, I agree that with the development of our society and economy, as well as the advent of the Internet, people nowadays are faced with too many choices.

These two other categories which consume 30% of total electricity include light, TV, Radio, vacuum cleaner, food mixer and other electric told and devices. 2:The information given by the line chart is about electricity demand in England in a typical winter and summer day. The pie chart compares how the electricity is used in an ordinary English household.According to the two-line chart, the demand for electricity in winter is constantly higher than that in summer. Precisely, the demand drops from 40,000 units at 3.00 to the bottom at 20,000 units at 8.00 before it soars to the highest point at 45,000 units at about 22.00. It is followed by a sharp increase to nearly 35,000 units at 24.00. In contrast, the time period between 0.00 and 9.00 witnesses a gentle decrease in the demand for electricity in summer, which is followed by a rise to the peak at 20,000 units, 25,000 units less than that in winter. As for the pie chart, the purpose of electricity use involves four parts. Heating rooms and water occupies the largest percentage (52.5%). The second largest component is ovens, kettles and washing machines which is 35% lower than the former one. It is followed by lighting, TV, radio and vacuum cleaners, food mixers, electric tools which represents 15% respectively.Overall, there is an apparent difference in the demand for electricity in winter and summer. The electricity distribution for different purpose is also various. 3:The graph above illustrates the typical daily demanding amount of electricity in England in summer and winter, while the pie chart reveals the specific various ways of using electricity in every family of Britain in average.Firstly, for the graph, the demanding units of electricity in winter always almost double that in summer through all the daytime. During the first 9hours, the units of electricity in summer decline steadily, while the winter figure fluctuates from approximately 40000 to 30000. After that, bath figures rise almost with a same extent from 9.00 to about 15.00after which the data of summer just varies in a very small range. However, the units of electricity in winter continue increasing to a peak of approximately 45000 at 21 o’clock after which there is a dramatic decrease. In terms of the pie chart, more than half of the demanding for electricity is occupied by heating rooms and water, while the amount of electricity used in ovens, kettles or washing machines is just one third of the heating figure. However, lighting, TV, radio and vacuum cleaners, food mixers, electric tools both have the same data which is the smallest proportion in the pie chart. Overall, typical daily demand for electricity varies from that in summer, while the percentages of different ways of using electricity are also various.Writing Task 2You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.Write about the following topic:Happiness is considered very important in life. Why is it difficult to define? What factors are important in achieving happiness?Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.Write at least 250 words. 1:A job provides the worker with the necessary means to remain satisfied in almost every aspect of life such as leisure, health, and social life. Consequently, finding a satisfying and motivating job is essential for improving an individual’s overall quality of life, and several key factors are thought to be critical for an employee to achieve job satisfaction.A reasonable salary is of course the most likely contributor to job satisfaction. In many people’s minds, an ideal job is first of all a well-paid one, which makes the employee feel that he is fairly rewarded for what he has done for the company. Another important element of job satisfaction is the nature of the job itself. Job satisfaction can never be achieved if the work is boring, or if the work is ill-suited to the employee’s education, skills and interests. Finally, job satisfaction is closely associated with being part of the decision-making process in the company as well as having opportunities for promotion. However, it is very difficult for a company to ensure that all its employees are satisfied with their job. The main reason is that different people have different definitions of job satisfaction. Some people may care salary more than opportunities for promotion. Others may never tolerate a boring task. Also, in the wild chase for quicker and higher profits, ensuring workers’ job satisfaction has become only a secondary or even non-existent goal for many employers. In conclusion, increasing workers’ job satisfaction can be a challenge for an employer, but for an individual employee, finding the right job and trying to stay positive might be the first step towards achieving job fulfillment and satisfaction. 2:Happiness is very difficult to define, because it means so many different things to different people. While some people link happiness to wealth and material success, others think it lies in emotions and loving personal relationships. Yet others think that spiritual paths, rather than either the material world or relationships with people, are the only way to true happiness.Because people interpret happiness for themselves in so many different ways, it is difficult to give any definition that is true for everyone. However, if there are different kinds of happiness for different individuals then the first step in achieving it would be to have a degree of self-knowledge.A person needs to know who he or she is before being able to know what it is that makes him or her happy.Of course, factors such as loving relationships, good health, the skills to earn a living and a peaceful environment all contribute to our happiness too. But this does not mean that people without these conditions cannot be happy.Overall, I think an ability to keep clear perspectives in life is a more essential factor in achieving happiness. By that I mean an ability to have a clear sense of what is important in our lives (the welfare of our families, the quality of our relationships, making other people happy, etc.) and what is not (a problem at work, getting annoyed about trivial things, etc.).Like self-awareness, this is also very difficult to achieve, but I think these are the two factors that may be the most important for achieving happiness.参考范文3(9分):It is no doubt true that the majority of people would like to be happy in their lives. While the personal nature of happiness makes it difficult to describe, there do seem to be some common needs that we all share with regard to experiencing or achieving happiness.Happiness is difficult to define because it means something different to each individual person. Nobody can fully understand or experience another person’s feelings, and we all have our own particular passions from which we take pleasure. Some people, for example, derive a sense of satisfaction from earning money or achieving success, whereas for others, health and family are much more important. At the same time, a range of other feelings, from excitement to peacefulness, may be associated with the idea of happiness, and the same person may therefore feel happy in a variety of different ways.Although it seems almost impossible to give a precise definition of happiness, most people would agree that there are some basic preconditions to achieving it. Firstly, it is hard for a person to be happy if he or she does not have a safe place to live and enough food to eat. Our basic survival needs must surely be met before we can lead a pleasant life. Secondly, the greatest joy in life is usually found in shared experiences with family and friends, and it is rare to find a person who is content to live in complete isolation. Other key factors could be individual freedom and a sense of purpose in life.In conclusion, happiness is difficult to define because it is particular to each individual, but I believe that our basic needs for shelter, food and company need to be fulfilled before we can experience it.。

The customs and traditional ways of behavior are no longer relevant to the modern world. So they are not worth keeping any more. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Several languages are in danger of extinction because they are spoken by very small numbers of people. Some people say that governments should spend public money on saving these languages, while others believe that would be a waste of money.Discuss both these views and give your opinion.范文:It is true that some minority languages may disappear in the near future. Although it can be argued that governments could save money by allowing this to happen, I believe that these languages should be protected and preserved. There are several reasons why saving minority languages could be seen as a waste of money. Firstly, if a language is only spoken by a small number of people, expensive education programmes will be needed to make sure that more people learn it, and the state will have to pay for facilities, teachers and marketing. This money might be better spent on other public services. Secondly, it would be much cheaper and more efficient for countries to have just one language. Governments could cut all kinds of costs related to communicating with each minority group.Despite the above arguments, I believe that governments should try to preserve languages that are less widely spoken. A language is much more than simply a means of communication; it has a vital connection with the cultural identity of the people who speak it. If a language disappears, a whole way of life will disappear with it, and we will lose the rich cultural diversity that makes societies more interesting. By spending money to protect minority languages, governments can also preserve traditions, customs and behaviours that are part of a country’s history. In conclusion, it may save money in the short term if we allow minority languages to disappear, but in the long term this would have an extremely negative impact on our cultural heritage.(258 words)。

Research indicates that the characteristics we are born with have much more influence on our personality and development than any experiences we may have in our life.Which do you consider to be the major influence?Model Answer:Today the way we consider human psychology and mental development is heavily influenced by the genetic sciences. We now understand the importance of inherited characteristics more than ever before. Yet we are still unable to decide whether an individual’s personality and development are more influenced by genetic factors (nature) or by the environment (nurture).Research, relating to identical twins, has highlighted how significant inherited characteristics can be for an individual's life. But whether these characteristics are able to develop within the personality of an individual surely depends on whether the circumstances allow such a development. It seems that the experiences we have in life are so unpredictable and so powerful, that they can boost or over-ride other influences, and there seems to be plenty of research findings to confirm this.My own view is that there is no one major influence in a person's life. Instead, the traits we inherit from our parents and the situation and experiences that we encounter in life areconstantly interacting. It is the interaction of the two that shapes a person's personality and dictates how that personality develops. If this were not true, we would be able to predict the behavior and character of a person from the moment they were born.In conclusion, I do not think that either nature or nurture is the major influence on a person, but that both have powerful effects. How these factors interact is still unknown today and they remain largely unpredictable in a person’s life.。
