圣诞节来源英语作文带翻译
圣诞节来源英语作文带翻译Christmas is a widely celebrated holiday around the world. It is a time of joy, gifts, and family gatherings. But have you ever wondered about the origin of Christmas? Where did this holiday come from? In this essay, we will explore the history and origins of Christmas. Christmas is celebrated on the 25th of December each year to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. The word "Christmas" actually means "Christ's Mass", derived from the Old English word "Cristes mæsse". The earliest mention of December 25th as the birth date of Jesus comes from the 4th-century writer, John Chrysostom. Although the exact date of Jesus' birth is not mentioned in the Bible, December 25th was chosen as it coincided with various ancient pagan winter festivals that were already celebrated. The most well-known pagan festival during this time was the Roman festival called Saturnalia, which honored the god Saturn. This festival was known for its days of feasting, merriment, and exchanging of gifts. The Romans also celebrated another festival, called Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, which means "birthday of the unconquered sun". This festival took place on December 25th and marked the winter solstice - the turning point when the days start getting longer again. The popularity of these festivals led to the assimilation of many of their customs and traditions into Christmas celebrations. The early Christians were wary of participating in pagan festivals, but as Christianity spread throughout the Roman Empire, they faced pressure to assimilate with the local customs. The merging of pagan rituals and Christian beliefs eventually resulted in the celebration of Jesus' birth on December 25th. This allowed Christians to participate in the festive atmosphere while celebrating their own religious holiday. The celebration of Christmas as we know it today began to take shape in the 4th century. In 336 AD, the Roman Emperor Constantine officially declared December 25th as the holiday celebrating the birth of Christ. This declaration helped to establish Christmas as an important Christian holiday.Over the centuries, Christmas traditions and customs continued to evolve. In the Middle Ages, many popular Christmas traditions were developed, such as caroling, the decoration of evergreen trees, and the creation of nativity scenes. These traditions were influenced by both Christian and pagan customs.Caroling, or singing Christmas songs, originated in Europe in the Middle Ages. It was a way for people to express joy and spread the message of Christmas. The tradition of decorating evergreen trees can be traced back to ancient pagan festivals that used greenery to represent new life during the winter. Similarly, the tradition of setting up nativity scenes during Christmas became popular in Italy during the Middle Ages and gradually spread throughout Europe. In the 19th century, Christmas began to be celebrated in a more commercial manner. The introduction of Christmas cards, the popularization of gift-giving, and the importance ofSanta Claus all contributed to this commercialization of the holiday. Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, is a figure that evolved from various folklore and legends. He is often depicted as a jolly old man who delivers gifts to children on Christmas Eve.Today, Christmas is celebrated around the world with various customs and traditions. It is a time for families to come together, exchange gifts, and enjoy festive meals. Many people attend church services to celebrate the religious significance of the holiday. In addition, Christmas has also become a time for charitable acts and giving back to the community. In conclusion, Christmas is a holiday that has been shaped by various historical, cultural, and religious factors. Its origins can be traced back to ancient pagan festivals, which were later absorbed into Christian celebrations. Over time, Christmas traditions and customs have evolved to create the holiday that is celebrated today. Whether you celebrate Christmas for its religious significance or as a time of celebration and joy, it is a holiday that brings people together and spreads happiness.。

圣诞节的由来英文简介带翻译The Origin of Christmas - A Brief IntroductionChristmas is one of the most widely celebrated festivals around the world. It is observed on December 25th every year to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. This article provides a concise overview of the origin of Christmas and its significance. Let's explore the historical roots of this festive season and its traditions. The OriginsThe word "Christmas" is derived from the Old English phrase "Cristes Maesse," which means "Christ's Mass." The festival dates back to the 4th century when Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire. However, the traditions and customs associated with Christmas evolved from various cultural and pagan practices that predate Christianity.Pre-Christian Winter CelebrationsBefore the advent of Christianity, people throughout the world celebrated the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, with various festive customs. In ancient Rome, the winter solstice celebration known as Saturnalia honored the god Saturn and lasted for around a week (December 17-23). During Saturnalia, people exchanged gifts, feasted, and engaged in merrymaking. In Scandinavia, the Vikings celebrated Yule, a festival that symbolized the rebirth of the sun. Yule festivities included feasting, lighting bonfires, and bringing evergreen branches into homes to ward off evil spirits. Thesepagan traditions eventually merged with Christian beliefs, shaping the celebration of Christmas as we know it today.Christian AdoptionThe exact date of Jesus Christ's birth is not mentioned in the Bible. However, by the 4th century, Christian leaders decided to adopt December 25th as the official date to celebrate the Nativity. The midnight Mass, also known as the "Christ-Mass," is attended by believers worldwide. During these services, Christians commemorate the birth of Jesus, sing hymns, and offer prayers. Nativity scenes, depicting the birth of Jesus in a stable, are also a common sight in churches and homes during Christmas. These scenes aim to portray the humility and simplicity of Jesus' birth.Santa Claus and Gift GivingThe modern-day figure of Santa Claus has its roots in the story of Saint Nicholas, a 4th-century Christian bishop from Myra, in present-day Turkey. Saint Nicholas was known for his acts of kindness and generosity, particularly towards children and the less fortunate. Over time, the legend of Santa Claus evolved, drawing inspiration from various sources, including Nordic folklore. Today, Santa Claus is a beloved and iconic figureassociated with Christmas, bringing joy to children by delivering gifts on Christmas Eve.Feasting and DecorationsFeasting is an integral part of Christmas celebrations. Traditional dishes vary across countries and cultures, but the spirit of sharing and enjoying special meals with loved ones remains constant. Roasted turkey, Christmas pudding, gingerbread, and fruitcake are among the popular festive foods.Decorating homes and public spaces with lights, ornaments, and Christmas trees is another cherished tradition. The Christmas tree, originally an evergreen symbolizing life in the midst of winter, is adorned with lights, ornaments, and a star or an angel at the top. This practice is believed to have originated in Germany and spread worldwide.ConclusionChristmas is a joyous festival that brings together people of diverse backgrounds and beliefs. It harmoniously combines ancient pagan customs with the Christian celebration of Jesus Christ's birth. By understanding the historical significance of Christmas, we can appreciate the traditions and symbols associated with this festive season even more.圣诞节的由来 - 简介与翻译圣诞节是世界上最广泛庆祝的节日之一,每年的12月25日纪念耶稣基督的降生。

During the Christmas season, they also exchange gifts and decorate their homes with holly, mistletoe, and Christmas trees. The word Christmas comes from Cristes maesse, an early English phrase that means Mass of Christ. The story of Christmas comes chiefly from the Gospels of Saint Luke and Saint Matthew in the New Testament. The history of Christmas dates back over 4000 years. Many of our Christmas traditions were celebrated centuries before the Christ child was born. The 12 days of Christmas, the bright fires, the yule log, the giving of gifts, carnivals(parades) with floats, carolers who sing while going from house to house, the holiday feasts, and the church processions can all be traced back to the early Mesopotamians. Many of these traditions began with the Mesopotamian celebration of New Years. The Mesopotamians believed in many gods, and as their chief god-Marduk. Each year as winter arrived it was believed that Marduk would do battle with the monsters of chaos. To assist Marduk in his struggle the Mesopotamians held a festival for the New Year. This was Zagmuk, the New Year’s festival that lasted for 12 days. The Persians and the Babylonians celebrated a similar festival called theSacaea. Part of that celebration included the exchanging of places, the slaves would become the masters and the masters were to obey. The ancient Greeks held a festival similar to that of the Zagmuk/Sacaea festivals to assist their god Kronos who would battle the god Zeus and his Titans. The Roman’s celebrated their god Saturn. Their festival was called Saturnalia which began the middle of December and ended January 1st. With cries of Jo Saturnalia! the celebration would include masquerades in the streets, big festive meals, visiting friends, and the exchange of good-luck gifts called Strenae (lucky fruits). The Romans decked their halls with garlands of laurel and green trees lit with candles. Again the masters and slaves would exchange places.Jo Saturnalia! was a fun and festive time for the Romans, but the Christians thought it an abomination to honor thepagan god. The early Christians wanted to keep the birthday of their Christ child a solemn and religious holiday, not one of cheer and merriment as was the pagan Saturnalia. Some legends claim that the Christian Christmas celebration was invented to compete against the pagan celebrations of December. The 25th was not only sacred to the Romans but also the Persians whose religion Mithraism was one of Christianity’s m ain rivals at that time. The Church eventually was successful in taking the merriment, lights, and gifts from the Saturanilia festival and bringing them to the celebration of Christmas. The exact day of the Christ child’s birth has never been pinpointed. Traditions say that it has been celebrated since the year 98 AD. In 137 AD the Bishop of Rome ordered the birthday of the Christ Child celebrated as a solemn feast. In 350AD another Bishop of Rome, Julius I, choose December 25th as the observance of Christmas. The birth of Jesus had a story: In Nazareth, a city of Galilee. The virgin’s name was Mary was betrothed to Joseph. Before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband was minded to put her away secretly. While he thought about these things, Gabriel, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and told him did not be afraid to take Mary as wife. And Mary will bring forth a Son, and he shall call his name, Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. Before Jesus births, Joseph and Mary came to Quirnius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up out of Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is calledBethlehem, because he was of the house and of the lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 据说圣诞老人从北极附近的某地出发,驾着驯鹿拉的雪橇从空中飞到各家,从烟囱进入屋内,留下礼物。
many young children believe that the presents they receive at christmas are given by santa claus, who is a jolly, white-bearded fat man in a red suit and red hat. according to the story, santa claus travels through the air from somewhere near the north pole in a sled drawn by
