Purpose: To make the Ss’learn more about the theme of writing: how to introduce a place.

Read the following passage and then discuss the two questions below.

Australia

Located in the smallest continent—Oceania, Australia is the sixth largest country in the world. / It covers a total area of 7,686,850 square kilometers with a population of about 20 million. / It is a mainly dry country with only a few coastal areas that have enough rainfall. / It is made up of 6 states, in which Melbourne and Sydney are the largest cities. / Because it is famous for its bright sunshine, countless sheep and cattle and its unique wildlife, the tourists from all over the world come to enjoy its scenery./
