联合国翻译项目结束报告

Ladies and gentlemen,

Good Morning!

It's been two years since we took the project, UN document translation. This project is under the direct leadership of Professor Wang Labao, dean of the School of Foreign Languages, and Professor Wang Hong. Over the past two years, we have translated more than 150,000 words of UN documents and we, as translators, are proud to be able to get closer to UN and to let more people know what UN has done and is doing to make this world a better place for all human beings.

However, the translation of UN documents is by no means an easy job. Each time when we translated a document, we put faithfulness, expressiveness, and appropriateness at the center of our attention and we spent a lot of time in revising and polishing our translations. “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best.” This is the saying that Prof. Wang Hong always reminded us of. And we are very lucky to have him as our supervisor during the whole process of UN document translation.

Cooperation and communication is the key to the success of UN document translation. It's a shared realization among us that this project is a whole and we must work as one. Thus, in the past two years, we made the best use of what we had to establish quick and easy communications and to share related resources. We had numerous heated discussions among us as to how to improve the quality of translation. And we learned quite a lot from our teachers and classmates.

Translating UN documents is indeed a valuable experience for us. We see now a much clearer picture of how translation should be done and what responsibilities we should take in our future career. And more importantly, thanks to it, we have a better understanding of what we can do to make this world a better place. This is beautiful! And this will be with us in our future days! Thank you!
