Teaching Process

Step 1 Three minutes’ Moral E ducation ahead of the class Watch a video of rainstorm.

Then let students talk about what they can do to help others when people are in trouble when the rainstorm comes.

Step 2 Revision

Show students some pictures of their own life at school. To review the structure of the past progressive tense.

1.What was he doing when the rainstorm came?

He was running on the playground.

2.What were they doing when the rainstorm came?

They were having a party at the old people’s home.

3.What was she doing when the rainstorm came?

She was making dumplings with classmates.

4.What was Zhang Zihe doing when the rainstorm came?

He was eating dumplings.

5.What were they doing when the rainstorm came?

They were making a banana milk shake.

6.What were they doing when the rainstorm came?

They were playing basketball with English teacher.

7.What were they doing when the rainstorm came?

They were having lunch in the dinning hall.

8.What was the baby doing when the rainstorm came?

She was swimming in the pool.

Let students read the sentences above.

Then make a summary to review the meaning and structure of the past progressive tense.

含义: 表示在过去某一时刻或某一时间段内正在发生的动作, 强调动作正在进行。

结构:主语+was/were+v.ing+其它+when the rainstorm came. Step 3 Grammar Focus

Have a competition: Who has the best memory.

Ask students what people were doing when the rainstorm came

without looking at the pictures.

Let students keep the sentences in mind.

Step 4 Make a survey.

Make a survey to find out what students’family were doing when the rainstorm came.

Show the pictures of family members, let students fill in the blanks.

at 5:00 p.m. last Sunday.

Check their answers.

Then let them read the sentences several times.

Step 5 Presentation

Show students how to turn the sentences into a passage.

Add a beginning and an ending to the body sentences. Beginning:

At 5:00 p.m. last Sunday, my family were quite busy. They all had their own things to do.

Ending:

Although we were all busy, we did something useful, except my father, haha. How about you?

Step 6 Writing

Give students a title to write their own passage. Offer help if necessary.

Let some students read their passage to the class.
