雾都孤儿英文读后感

It's long long ago, maybe before I can read english books. I don't remember which movie edition I had seen. But I was impressed by the music, the scenery and the costume. I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. It's pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird. Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the heroine,though I didn't think she's beautiful. But she's smart. However, I didn't pay much attention to the plot.

I thought it's so long that it made me impatient and bored. By now, I haven't read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either. I owe it to my prejudice.

Oliver Twist is written by Charles Dickens.

Charles Dickens is one of the greatest writers in the England. He was born in a poor family, but later he became famous and rich. The famous novel --A Tale of Two Cities is written by him, too.

This novel shows us the cruelty and crime of London. Oliver Twist, the hero, is a poor orphan. He lived in a life filled with taunts. Nobody loved him. With visions of his future, he decided to go to London. He thought a new life was coming, but he was wrong, a group of thieves were waiting for him.

The author created a group of bad men.

但她也是被那个善良的人所感动了，可见如果多一个善良人，也许可以多感化一个在贼窝里的一刻还有一点点人性的心。但是，我也为南西所悲哀，她最后的结局十分惨，她被打死了，而打死她的人，确是她一直不舍得离开的人。南西曾有许多机会逃离那个肮脏的世界，但她放弃了，就是舍不得最后那个打死她的人。

When I read the novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles ten years ago for the

first time, I was merely shocked by Tess’s miserable and tragic fate. What a lovely and kind girl! She did nothing wrong but she had to bear all these adversities that she didn’t deserve. At that time I was just a naive little girl in junior high school.

Fagin, an old man, with a horribly ugly face and red hair, was the head of those thieves. He tried to make Oliver be a criminal.

Monks, Oliver’s brother, did bad things to hurt Oliver. He wanted to get the legacies left by his father alone. He paid Fagin to trap Oliver into a

life of crime. In fact, they were all afraid of being put into prison and

being hanged. They can’t live happily.

Nancy, a poor girl, loved a bad man. She had to help Bill Sikes perpetrate, because she loved him. She had to be loyal to the criminal group, because she loved him. Actually, she was kind. She helped Oliver at the risk of her life.

If she hadn’t fell in love with Sikes, she would have a happy ending.

The author showed these ugly things to us, he described an ugly world. But there are more kind people in the novel.

Mr. Brownlow, an old friend of Oliver’s fa ther, took good care of Oliver.

Mrs. Maylie, Harry Maylie’s mother, saved Oliver of his life.

Miss Rose is the aunt of Oliver, in fact.

They all protect Oliver from hurt.

Oliver was unlucky to meet so many evil people, but he was luckier to get help from so many kind people.

In the end of the novel, all the evil people were punished. Oliver got

what he should get. Rose married Harry Maylie and they lived happily. All the kind people have a happy ending.

Righteousness can always beat evil. I think this is what the author wants

to tell. Although there are many ugly things in the world, we must believe

that righteousness can always beat evil.

Finishing reading the novel named Wolf Totem, I got some kind of uneasiness. Perhaps it was only in a kink of my nature, strong in me even in those days. I just couldn’t help writing something for the wolf and the pasture which had vanished at the end of the novel, vanished from reality.

读完这本书，我心中久久不能平息。可怜的奥利弗，在已经失去家人的痛苦下还受到

这么多折磨。真不知道他瘦弱的躯体下，有着怎样的意志，能使他坚持不懈，使他在饥饿、寒冷、孤独、痛苦下顽强的斗争，向美好生活前进!
