Teaching Plan——Book 4 Unit 2 Working the Land Distinctive judges, good morning. It is a great honor for me to share my teaching plan here. My presentation includes 6 parts as following: analysis of teaching material, analysis of students, teaching methods, learning methods, teaching procedures and blackboard design. Now I’ll present them one by one.1.Teaching MaterialThe topic is Period 1, reading, of unit 2 in book 4, PEP. It is about working the land, which is related to students’daily life. Through discussing and reading the passage about agriculture and farming, students can realize the importance of agriculture in our life and get a clearer understanding of scientific research value of the pioneer for all people, Dr. Yuanlongping. Therefore, this lesson is in the important position of the book.On the base of the new curriculum standard, teaching material content and the practical situation of students, combined with my own teaching experience, the teaching objects are determined from three aspects. They are knowledge object, ability object and emotional object.Knowledge object is to understand the passage A pioneer for all people exactly and to get the hang of new words and expressions in this period. What’s more, learning something about farming and Dr. Yuan is also our object. Ability object is fostering students' reading skills, thinking ability, and self-study ability. Emotional object is arousing students' learning interest, and helping students improve their awareness of hardworking and appreciation of food, make up their mind to make contributions to motherland in the future like Dr. Yuan.Based on the analysis of teaching material and teaching objects above, teaching important points are to help students comprehend the text and grasp the main idea of the text, to grasp the usage of some words and expressions and to help students make up their mind to make contributions to motherland in the future like Dr. Yuan. Teaching difficult points lie in helping students learn more about agriculture and helping students really master the usage of words and expressions.2.Analysis of StudentsThe target students of this lesson are students of Junior 1 grade. After learning three text books, they have English basis and own the ability to complete tasks individually or cooperating with each other. However, their knowledge about agriculture is relatively rare.3.Teaching MethodsFor achieving these teaching objects, various approaches like talking, question-and-answering activity, task-based learning approach and communication method will be used in this lesson. At the same time, this class will be conducted with the aid of some teaching tools, including a tape recorder, a projector and a computer.4.Learning MethodsThe learning Methods of this class are Pair work, Group work, Individual work and discussion. With these methods, it can make the class active and stimulate Students’ enthusiasms.5.Teaching ProceduresThis core part of my teaching plan consists of warming up, pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading and homework. I’ll begin with warming up.Step 1 warming up(5minutes)To lead in, I plan to share a poem by Li Shen with my students. And then I’ll show many pictures of different grains on the screen and ask students to guess what’s name of these plants.Step2 Pre-reading(3minutes)The purpose of this step is to let students know the importance of rice. By answering the two questions, students can easily understand why we call Dr Yuan Longping a pioneer for all people, and why he devotes all his life to the rice research. Students can finish these two questions by cooperating with their classmates, in other word, this is a team work.Q1 What do you think would happen if tomorrow there was suddenly no rice to eat? Q2 If you had the chance to do one thing to help end famine in the world, what would you do?Step3 While-reading(25minutes)In order to enable students to get the global and detailed understanding of this passage and practice their extensive and intensive reading skills, I prepare tasks of fast reading and careful reading. The purpose of fast reading is to let students find some useful information, and get familiar with the text. So in this step, task one is to read the text silently in 5 minutes, and finish the multiple choices. For example,What does the word “battle” refer to in para.2 ?A. The low rice output.B. Ridding the world of hunger.C. Fighting against farming.D. The freedom to do research.Task 2 of fast reading is a matching exercise. Students are asked to match each para. with their main idea.Para1 A. Dr Yuan’s dreams.Para2 B. Dr Yuan’s attitude towards life.Para3 C. Dr Yuan’s life experience.Para4 D. Dr Yuan’s appearance and his achievement.Suggested answer: 1-D, 2-C, 3-B, 4-AAfter students have a global understanding of the passage, we will read each paragraph carefully one by one. Students must finish 4 tasks, the forms of which are questions and answers, completing tables, true or false exercise and blanks filling. For example,Q1: What does Dr Yuan look like?Suggested answer: He has a sunburnt face and arms and a slim, strong body.Step 4 Post-reading(10minutes)In this step, students will sum up the passage in their own words. This task can improve their ability of expressing themselves and speaking English. And then, I would like students to think: even if Dr Yuan’s dreams come true, can this really solve the starvation? Why? By thinking the question critically, students’critical thinking ability will be developed.Step 5 Homework(2minutes)Homework is so important and necessary for students to master the knowledge they learned after class. It will check whether the Ss achieve the teaching aims. Today’s homework is to finish exercises on Page 12.6.Blackboard DesignFinally I will talk about the blackboard design. In order to help the students grasp the main idea of this lesson, I will write the topic and main idea of this passage on the blackboard.。
