Question
1.A friend of yours is going to have an important job interview and has asked for your advice. What do you think your friend should do in order to have a successful job interview? Explain why
If one of my friends is going to have an essential job interview and wants some suggestions, I would say two things to him. First, dress properly and second, be yourself. Since this is a formal occasion, it is better to wear professional clothes, like wearing a suit or a tie. This way, he could leave a good impression on the interviewer and share a greater chance of successful employment. Speaking of being yourself, it just means take the interview as a casual talk and communicate your ideas about your own expertise. Sometimes pretending you know something that you actually don’t know can hurt you in some way. So if you want the job, just be honest and be yourself. And these are the two suggestions I may give to my friend.####
2.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Eighteen-year-olds are not mature enough to vote. Use specific examples and details to support your opinion.
I agree with the statement that eighteen-year-olds are not mature enough to vote because eighteen-year-olds don’t have enough life experience and they are unable to judge what’s true or false. During a campaign, many candidates may make a lot of propaganda videos to create a trustworthy and reliable public image. However, in these materials, it may have some made-up information which is used to mislead and attract potential voters, who know nothing of what the true story is. If this trick could happen to adults, not to mention those eighteen-year-old youth. Therefore, it is unwise to allow eighteen-year-olds to vote and a better approach would be to let them vote when they get older and more mature, like 24-year-old or something.####
3.The woman expresses her opinion about the letter-writer's proposal. Briefly summarize the proposal. Then state her opinion about the proposal and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.
In the reading, a student proposes that the school should build a parking lot near the humanities building. The first reason is that students could only park their cars in the street, which is very inconvenient. The second one is that there is a wooded area on campus, which is a perfect site for a parking lot on campus. In the listening, the woman disagrees with the proposal because of two reasons. The first is both the dining hall and library are good places to park and they are not far away from the humanities building. Students may just need to walk a few steps away. The second one is that the wooded area on campus is the only one left for students. It is better for school to leave this place to them where they can study and read books under the shade.####
ing the example from the lecture, explain the use of image advertising to sell products.
mage Advertising
When companies advertise a product, they depend on the use of images as well as words to achieve their goal of increasing sales. An image can be a symbol, character, or design - any visual figure or representation that will link the company with their product in the consumer's mind. Typically the image is a positive, entertaining one that consumers enjoy so much that it makes them want to buy the product in the future. The image also tends to be easy to remember even though it is usually something not normally or logically associated with the product.(听力材料)
In the reading, the article talks about image advertising, which means a company may advertise a product by using an image even though it may not be closely linked with the company’s brand. In the listening, the professor gives out one example to illustrat e this. Many companies want to sell their cookies and biscuits to their customers but the one that truly stands out is the Big Bear Cookies. This company put this image on its biscuits boxes and in its TV commercials. Since whenever it shows up on TV, the bears are always
