Originally, fashion design house clothing was made to order for the wealthy and powerful people in society.
In 1966, Yves Saint Laurent changed this, by designing ready to wear clothing, using mass production.
This reduced the price of fashion, and opened the way for new fashion labels and high street stores.
Fashionable clothing is now massed produced in many designs, price ranges, and internationally recognized sizes, making it more accessible to everyone.
Fashion models
Fashion houses glamorize the concept of fashion modeling. As a result, many girls dream of becoming a fashion model. But in reality, this job requires a lot of hard work and dedication in order to be successful.
Fashion models are required to attend fashion shows all over the world, travel extensively and work very long hours,.
They are also required to keep their body in shape and maintain a specific body mass.
Many critics of the fashion industry say that the models are too thin, and do not represent the body sizes of the general population.
Recently many fashion houses have started to present their clothing, use models which are the shape and size of the average person.
FTV
Fashion TV or FTV is a French TV station which was founded in 1997.
FTV is a TV station which is dedicated to fashion, and regularly broadcasts fashion shows, and fashion related events from around the world.
FTV also have coffee shops used as a hangout for the fashion conscious coffee drinker.
Bicester Village
Bicester Village is a famous area in the UK where you can buy many designer named products at discounted prices.
Bicester Village is located about 30km outside London, and is very popular with Chinese students who are studying in the South of England.
Many French brands are represented there, including Chanel, Hermes, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton.
Shoes
Roger Vivier is the world famous French shoe designer, who created the first Stiletto heel shoe.
Stiletto heel shoes became popular in the 1950’s with the introduction of new technology which allowed shoe heels to be made of metal instead of wood.
Roger Vivier became the top shoe designer for the Christian Dior fashion house during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Stiletto heeled shoes are commonly worn by ladies as a sign of their elegance and beauty.
Roger Vivier also made many other types of hand-made shoes, with silk, satin and jewel decoration.
When Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in London, England, she wore shoes which were designed by Roger Vivier.
Sunbathing
Over 100 years ago, it was fashionable for European women to have very white skin. Ladies would dress in clothing which protected them from the sun.
100 years ago, European ladies would also use chemical creams and powders to make their skin tone whiter.
The fashion of sunbathing was made famous in 1903 by fashion designer and trend setter Coco Chanel, when she accidentally got sun burnt, when on holiday in the South of France.
