2016-2017学年高二上期中考试英语试卷(解析版)

2016-2017学年高二上期中考试英语试卷(解析版)

2016-2017学年高二上期中考试英语试卷(解析版)一、阅读理解1、阅读理解According to body language expert Robert Phipps, the way people sleep at night actually determines a lot about the type of personality they have. Phipps has identified four sleeping p ositions that affect personality.Phipps found that worriers, those who stress the most, tend to sleep in the fetal (胎儿的) position. He found that this is the most common bedtime p osition, with nearly 58 percent of people sleeping on their side with knees up and head down. The more we curl up (蜷曲), the more comfort we are seeking, according to Phipps. The second most common position is the log. Sleeping with a straight body, with arms at each side, as if they are standin g guard at Buckingham Palace, indicates stubbornness, and t hese people (the 28 percent who sleep this way) often wake u p stiffer than when they went to sleep.“The longer you sleep like this, the more rigid your thinking is and you can become inflexible, which means you make things harder for yourself,” according to Phipps.Yearner (向往) sleepers are next on the list. About 25 percent of people sl eep in this style—on their side with arms stretched out in front, looking as if they are either chasing a dream or perhaps being chased themsel ves. Yearners are typically their own worst critics, always exp ecting the best results, explained Phipps. These people often wake up refreshed and eager to face the challenges of the da y ahead.Perhaps the most peculiar (奇怪的) of sleep styles is the freefaller position. This sleep style m akes up 17 percent of the population. They sleep face down w ith arms stretched out. These people, according to Phipps, fe el like they have little control over their life. Not only is this the strangest of sleep styles, but also the least comfortable, and people may wake up feeling tired and have no energy.Inconclusion, Phipps has only one more thing to add: “A go od night's sleep set you up for the following day and our sleep ing positions can determine how we feel when we wake.”根据短文内容,选择最佳答案,并将选定答案的字母标号填在题前括号内。

They also took part in an online game of “catch” against a computer program that was designed to “throw” the ball to other players more often, but p articipants believed they were playing with real people online. Participants were then introduced to human-like products, including a vacuum cleaner (真空吸尘器) designed to appear as if it were smiling. They were also a sked to think about their phone in human-like terms, considering questions like “how much does it help you?”The results showed that the participants were happy with the comfort they got from the machines and didn’t need to seek o ut normal human interaction.Generally, when people feel socially excluded, they seek out other ways to reduce the feeling of loneliness. Normal ways in clude increasing their number of social media friends or enga ging in behaviors to seek out interaction with other people, ac cording to Jenny Olson, assistant professor of marketing at K U.But it wasn’t all bad news, as the team found that there were li mits to how far this effect would extend.“As soon as we tell people we know that it looks like the [vacuum cleaner] is smiling, they seemed to realize it was a machin e and not a person,” Olson told Daily Mail. “The effect goes a way. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be us ed only once. Note that there are two more sentences than yo u need.In 2009, the number of hungry people in the world reached on e billion for the first time. It's difficult not to be shocked by the f act that more than one in seven people in the world do not ha ve enough to eat. 67 Hunger kills more people per year t han diseases such as AIDS, malaria(疟疾)and TB (肺结核) combined. The UN estimates that almost two thirds of the world's hungry people are in Asia, which is of course the world's most populo us continent. 68 Although this region has a much lower p opulation than Asia, it has the highest percentage of hungry p eople. Almost all of the rest are in Latin America, North Africa and the Caribbean. In the richest regions of the world there ar e only a tiny number of people who don’t have enough to eat.69 They include wars, droughts, floods, and the ove r-use of farming land. All these factors affect food production. M any people also blame greedy businessmen for pushing up th e prices of basic foods in the global market. But the most imp ortant reason, quite simply, is poverty, which has increased re cently due to the financial crisis of 2008.Although many people make the obvious point that there woul d be less hunger if the global population were smaller, few pe ople would argue that there is not enough food to go around. The basic problem seems to be not a lack of food, but its distri bution. In the last 50 years, global food production has risen e ven more quickly than the global population. There are many areas of the world in which people generally have more than enough food. 70 The answer to world hunger, therefore, may be a balanced food distribution around the whole world. Everyone will have enough to eat, but not overeat.IV. Summary Writing (10分)Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main points of the passage in no more than 60 w ords. Use your own words as far as possible. Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happine ss. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, "Happiness depends upon ourselves." In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier. The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in lif e. Too often, we spend too much time thinking about the futur e-for example, getting into college or getting a good job-that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life's simpl e pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your fa vorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier live s.Another secret to living a happy life is to be active. Many peop le go dancing or play sports. People can forget about their pro blems and only think about the activities. Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helpin g others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someo ne. We may learn from the te_t that SueTownsend is _________.A. a writerB.an actress C. a musician D.a directorCLookon the brighter sideEVERYTHING has two sides. One side of SARSis already clear. It is a deadly disease, which causes fear. There were 2,601cases recorded on the Chinese mainland on April 24, according to government figures. Some 115 people have died and numbers keep rising. But, there’s another side. SARS is a reminder of how fragile (脆弱的) life can be. Suddenly, it’s notjust the old people who are thinking about death. Everyone now realizes theremight not always be a tomorrow.Wang _inying, a Senior 3 student in Taiyuan, Shansi Province, cameinto contact (接触) with asuspected (疑似) SARSpatient in mid-April. He was told to stay at home for at least two weeks. 〝WatchingTV about more and more SARS patients dying, I never knew that death could be soclose. Life is valuable and I’m going to treasure every single day,〞 he said.SARS teaches people to be grateful (感激), not only for their own lives, but also for others. Doctors andnurses, for e_ample, have to spend all their time with infected (被感染的) patients. As a result, morethan 20 percent of SARS cases in China are medical workers._u Bing, a Senior 2 student of Beijing NO.5 Middle School wants tobe a tor when he grows up. 〝Although they certainly know of the dangers, tors and nurses remain bravely dedicated (致力于) to saving people’s lives. I’m deeply moved by what they have done.I think they are real heroes,〞 he said.SARS also teaches sympathy (同情). The past few weeks have been terrible for Chinese people. Butthere are far worse things than SARS in this world, such as war, earthquakes and murders. Think of the Iraqis, who have been living terrible lives for 20years. Think of how the Americans felt on September 11.And finally, SARS offers the chance to grow. All different types of people and government officials are joining together to deal with this difficult time. When this passes, China and its people, will have learned greatlessons.(From21 st Century, April 28,_)51. AFat and shy, Ben Saunders was the last kid in his class picked for any sports team.“Football, tennis, cricket —anything with a round ball, I was useless,” he says now with a laugh. But back then he was the one always made fun of in school gym classes in Devonshire, England. It was a mountain bike he received for his 15th birthday that changed him. At first he went biking alone in a nearby forest. Then he began to ride the bike along with a runner friend. Gradually, Saunders set his mind on building up his body, increasing his speed and strength. At the age of 18, he ran his first marathon. The following year, he met John Ridgway and started to work as a teacher at Ridgway’s school of Adventure in Scotland, where he learnt about Ridgway’s cold-water exploits. Greatly interested, Saunders read all he could about North Pole explorers and adventures; he decided that this would be his future. In 2001, after becoming a skillful skier, Saunders started his first long-distance expedition (探险) towards the North Pole. It took unbelievable energy. He suffered frostbite, ran into a polar bear and pushed his body to the limit, pulling his sled up and over the Rocky Mountains.Saunders has become the youngest person to ski alone to the North Pole, and he’s skied more of the North Pole by himself than any other British man. His old playmates would not believe the change.Next October, Saunders, 27, heads south from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back, a 2,900-kilometre journey that has never been completed on skis.21. What change happened to Saunders after he was 15 years old?A. He became good at most sports.B. He began to build up his body.C. He joined a sports team.D. He made friends with a runner.22. So if it’s sunshine holidays you are after, then perhaps you should consider taking your next vacation in Cyprus.Once you arrive in Cyprus you could be forgiven for thinking that you have in fact landed back in the UK because Cyprus has often been referred to as England with the sun. Most Cypriots speak excellent English as a second language and it’s taught in all the schools even at primary level. They drive on the left and all the road signs are in English as well as Greek. There aren’t many places left in the world where you can leave your doors unlocked or walk down the streets in the dead of night but Cyprus is one of them. The Island has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe which makes it great place to live in.For people who just want to relax, Cyprus is the perfect holiday destination. With miles of sandy beaches and delightful bays, you are sure to find somewhere to calm down while you enjoy all that Cyprus sun. The Island has a rich cultural history, and if you want to see more of Cyprus while on your holiday, be sure to check out many trips that are on offer to all those places of interest. However you decide to enjoy your holiday in Cyprus and whether it’s relaxing on the beach or taking in the night life of many bars and restaurants, the Island has something for everyone. Until you experience Cyprus for yourself you can never completely understand why so many holiday makers return to her beautiful shores year after year. In fact some of those visitors have so fallen in love with her that they have bought a house of their own there.Enjoy Cyprus!24. The purpose of the passage is to________.A. explain why Cyprus is so similar to EnglandB. introduce a perfect holiday destination to readersC. recommend the best season to go to CyprusD. encourage people to travel around the world25. What can we learn about Cyprus?A. All the road signs in Cyprus are written in Greek only.B. The native language of Cyprus is English.C. It is hot in summer and cold in winter.D. It is sunny most of the time.26. It can be inferred from the text that ________.A. Cyprus is a country with good public safetyB. it is expensive to live in a country like CyprusC. Cyprus is a small country with a large populationD. the environment in Cyprus has been damaged by travelersCYou're rushing to work and a man ahead of you suddenly falls down. Do you stop to help? In a study of bystanders(旁观者), it was found that some people look away or keep on walking.“There is a inclination(倾向)to decide that no action is needed,” says Ervin Staub, a psychologist at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, who studies the role of bystanders. “The first thoughts that come into your mind often keep you from offering help.”Time and again, good and caring people fail to help others. They know they should act and yet, for reasons they themselves don’t understand, people sometimes don’t respond. Longtime researchers of bystander behavior continue to struggle with the question, “Why”?One thing we do know is that the more ambiguous a situation, the less likely people are to help. Let’s say you see vapor(水汽)coming out of a building. You ask yourself, “Is it steam or smoke?” if you are not sure, you look to other people for a clue(提示)about how to react. If you see other people are doing nothing, you think, “Of course, that’s just steam.” You don’t want it to be smoke, because then you would have to do something about it.Another one is known as “the bystander effect”. This says that the more people there are watching an emergency, the less responsible each one of them personally feels. For example, if you are the only person in the world who can act to save someone in a dangerous situation, you are more likely to act. However, if you are one of 100,000 people who could save the situation, you would be happier if one of the other 99,999 people did it!“If you notice trouble, force yourself to stop and judge the situation instead of walking on,”says Ervin Staub.”Then try to involve other people; you don't have to take on all the responsibility of being helpful. According to Staub, it is sometimes just a matter of turning to the person next to you and saying, “It looks like we should do something.”Once you take action, most people will follow you.27. According to Ervin Staub, when accidents happen, people’s first thoughts ________.A. force them to lend a handB. prevent them from helpingC. often lead to embarrassmentD. depend on others’ reaction28.
