In practice, the logistics distribution mode varies with operator, nature of product, location, and other factors. Even the same DC may simultaneously adopt a number of differentiated distribution modes as per the specific situations.

1. Overview of transportation
The transportation system is the physical like connecting a company’s customers, raw material suppliers, plants, warehouses, and channel members. Transportation costs, which represent approximately 40 to 50 percent of total logistics costs and 4 to 10 percent of the productselling price for many companies, may represent logistics management’s major concept. Transportation decisions directly affect the total logistics costs. This chapter is concerned with the transportation system in the logistics system and the daily transportation management activities.
