2002年江苏省成人学士学位英语考试试卷ENGLISH QUALIFICATION TESTFOR A BACHELOR’S DEGREE(Nov.2002)Paper OnePartⅠListening Comprehension(15minutes15%)(共15题略)Part II Reading Comprehension:Directions:There are some reading passages in this part. Each passage is followed by five questions. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C and D.You should decide on the best choice and write down the corresponding letter in the Answer Sheet.I hear many parents complaining that their teen-age children are rebelling,I wish it were so. At your age you ought to be growing away from your parents. You should be learning to stand on your own two feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are all taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents.(86)Instead of striking out boldly on their own, most of them are clutching at(attempting to seize)one anothers hands for reassurance. They claim they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up crowded round listening to the same record.Their reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon(蚕茧)---into a larger cocoon. It has become harder and harder for a teen-ager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way.Industry firmly carved out a teen-age market. These days every teen-ager can learn from the advertisements what a teen-ager should have and be.And many of todays parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. All this adds up to a great barrier for the teen-ager who wants to find his or her own path. But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don care to share at once with your classmates.Well,go to it.Find yourself.Be yourself.Popularity will come-with the people who respect you for who you are.Thats the only kind of popularity that really counts.16.The authors purpose writing this passage is to tell____.A)readers how to be popular in with aroundB)teen-agers how to learn to decide things for themselvesC)parents how to control and guide their childrenD)people how to D)authoritative20.During the teen-age years, one should learn to____.A)differ from others in as many ways as possibleB)get into the right season and become popularC)find ones real selfD)rebel against parents and the popularity wavesThe greatest recent changes have been in the lives of women.During the twentieth century there was an unusual shortening of the time of a woman’s life spent in caring for children.A woman marrying at the end of the19th century would probably have been in her middle twenties, and would be likely to have seven or eight children,of whom four or five lived till they were five years old.By the time the youngest was fifteen, the mother would have been in her early fifties and would expect to live a further twenty years, during which custom, chance and health made it unusual for her to get paid work.Today women marry younger and have fewer ually a woman’s youngest child will be fifteen when she is forty-five and is likely to take paid work until retirement at sixty.Even while she has the care of children, her work is lightened by household appliances(家用电器)and convenience foods.(87)This important change in women’s way of life has only recently begun to have its full effect on women’s economic position.Even a few years ago most girls left school at the first opportunity and most of them took a full-time job. However, when they married, they usually left work at once and never returned to it.Today the school-leaving age is sixteen, many girls stay at school after that age,and though women tend to marry younger, more married women stay at work at least until shortly before their first child is born. Many more after wads, return to full or part-time work.Such changes have led to a new relationship in marriage, with both husband and wife accepting a greater share of the duties and satisfaction of family life, and with both husband and wife sharing more equally in providing the money and running the home, according to the abilities and interest of each of them.21.According to the passage,it is now quite usual for women to________.A.stay at home after leaving schoolB.marry men younger than themselvesC.start working again later in lifeD.marry while still sun was high when he awoke. As he sat up and yawned a pair of strong hands seized his shoulders, and in a moment his wrists were tied tightly together behind his back.He turned and stared into Bronco’s hairy face.“What’s this?”he said. The old man tested the knots before answering.“Orders,Black Peter’s changed his mind.Until we can check on you.”Martin swore loudly, then asked if he could talk to Black Peter.Branko shook his head.“He’s busy.”Martin was seized by despair. Now all his plans might fall unless he could gain the confidence of Black Peter. After some thought he stood up and walked to the mouth of the tunnel.Branko followed. The grassy hollows were alive with men busy with their various duties. There must have been a stream somewhere nearby, for a long line of men were taking their horses to the water;others were setting up tents and lighting fire.(88)Immediately opposite was another tunnel at the entrance of which stood two guards armed with guns.Behind them Martin made out the giant form of Black Peter.“There he is,”he said.“I must talk to him.”Branko tried to stop him,but he pushed him aside, walked to the mouth of the tunnel and called out:“Black Peter!I must talk to you.”The leader of the White Eagles was seated on a wooden box, deep in conversation with two rough-looking men.“What is it?”he said.“Why are you checking on me?”Martin replied.“I need to be sure bout you,”said Black Peter.“There’s too much to close.”He pointed into the tunnel, and Martin saw the wooden boxes that he guessed must contain the gold bars.“Is that the treasure?”he asked.Black Peter stood up,struggling between his desire for secrecy and an obvious pride in the success of his plans.“Yes,”he said at last.26.Martin’s night’s rest.A.was disturbedsted less then six hourssted more than six hoursD.was suddenly cut short27.What happened as soon as Martin woke up?A.Branko struck him.B.He was made a prisoner.C.Branko checked that he was still tied up.D.He was taken off to speak to Black Peter.28.The success of Martin’s plans now depended on his.A.escaping from the tunnelB.finding the treasureC.discovering who the leader of the White Eagles wasD.persuading Black Peter that he could be trusted29.When he got to the mouth of the tunnel,Martin saw men.A.in fairly large numbersB.fetching water from the streamC.packing up camp and getting ready to leaveD.resting in small groups30.Black Peter finally admitted that the boxes contained gold because.A.he was so satisfied with what he had doneB.he had decided to trust MartinC.he saw that he could no longer keep it a secretD.he knew that Martin could not escapeAt present,in many American cities especially, many teachers in the public schools say they are underpaid(少付工资的).They point to jobs such as secretary or truck driver, which often pay more to start than that of the teacher. In many other fields, such as law, medicine, computer science,a beginning worker may make more than a teacher who has taught for several year. Teaching has never been a profession that attracted people interested in high salaries.(89)It is by history a profession that has provided rewards in addition to money---the satisfaction of sharing knowledge,of influencing others,of guiding young people. But in the past several years, there are more difficulties in teaching, for many, than there are rewards.Unruly(不守秩序的)students, especially in big cities, large classes and a lack of support from the public in terms of money and understanding have led many public school teachers to leave the profession.(90)As a result, many of the best students, who would have chosen teaching as their life career in the past, are going into other fields.Another reason for this change in teacher candidates(申请求职者)is the changing status of women in the United States.Until the late1960s and1970s,one of the most popular choices for women was teaching. But as other professions, such as law and medicine opened up to women, women stopped pouring into teacher training programs. Thus,a major pool of excellent candidates for the teaching profession dwindled(减少).31.Which of the following can give us a true picture of jobs in the United States?A.People in most professions usually get the same pay at the beginning.B.A beginning worker in medicine earns less than one in any other field.C.A beginning teacher earns as much as a truck driver who has They did not have enough schools, health clinics or houses. People did not have time or money to build enough roads, bridges or places of worship. The worst problem, however, was that towns did not have places to keep rubbish. As a result, people often threw pots of water containing urine(尿液) and faeces (粪便) out of their windows and not always in the direction of the street. To be sure, some towns did have bylaws (地方法令) to stop people from throwing away rubbish in the street. There was mid-nineteenth-century Cheltenham, in southwest England. But even in places likeCheltenham, there were many violators. Each passage is followedby some questions or incomplete statements. For each of them there are four choicesmarked A, B, C and D. You are required to choose the best answer from the four choices. Then mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line throughthe center.Questions 16--20 are based on the following passage. The exact number of English words is not known. The large dictionaries have overhalf a million entries, but many of these are compound words (schoolroom, sugar bowl)or different derivatives of the same word (rare--rarely, rarefy), and a good manyare obsolete words to help us read older literature. Dictionaries do not attemptto cover completely words that we can draw on: the informal vocabulary, especiallyslang, localism, the terms of various occupations and professions; words used only occasionally by scientists and specialists in many fields; foreign words borrowedfor use in English; or many new words or new senses of words that come into use everyyear and that may or may not be used long enough to warrant being included. (86)It would be conservative to say that there are over a million English words thatany of us might meet in our listening and reading and that we may draw on in ourspeaking and writing.Professor Seashore concluded that first-graders enter school with at least24,000words and add 5,000 each year so that they leave high school with at least80,000.These figures are for recognition vocabulary, the words we understand when we reador hear them. Our active vocabulary, the words we use in speaking and writing , is considerably smaller. You cannot always produce a word exactly when you want it. But consciously usingthe words you recognize in reading will help get them into your active vocabulary.(87) Occasionally in your reading pay particular attention to these words, especially when the subject is one that you might well write or talk about. Underlineor make a list of words that you feel a need for and look up the less familiar onesin a dictionary. And then before very long find a way to use some of them. Once youknow how they are pronounced and what they stand for, you can safely use them.16. According to the author's estimation, there are words in English.A. more than half a millionB. at least 24,000C. at least 80,000D. more than amillion17. The italicized word "obsolete" in the first paragraph is closest in meaning toA. no longer in useB. profoundC. colorfulD. common18. One's recognition vocabulary is .A. less often used than his active vocabularyB. smaller than his active vocabularyC. as large as his active vocabularyD. much larger than his active vocabulary19. The author does not suggest getting recognition vocabulary into active vocabulary by .A. making a list of words you need end looking up the new ones in a dictionaryB. spending half an hour studying the dictionaryC. consciously using the words you recognize in readingD. trying to use the words you recognize20. From the passage we team that .A. dictionaries completely cover the words we can make use ofB. "schoolroom" is used in the passage as an example of a specialized termC. once you know how a word is pronounced and what it represents, you have turned it into your active wordD. active vocabulary refers to words we understand when we read and hear them Questions 21--25 are based on the following passageA third of Britons are overweight, states a report published in January by the Royal College of Physicians, the result of an 18-month-long study. About five percent of children weigh too much, and are likely to stay that way for life; in the mid-twenties age group the proportion of fat people rises to a third, and of the middle-aged population half ere overweight.Fat people risk severe health problems, says the report, including high blood pressure, breathlessness, and various forms of heart disease. Smoking is particularly risky for overweight people. The safest way to lose weight is to eat cereals, bread, fruit and vegetables, and cut down on fatty meats, butter and sweet foods. Fad diets do far more harm than good; slimming machines that vibrate muscles have not been proved useful; saunas (桑拿浴)merely remove a little body water, and health farms, says the report, serve as expensive holidays.(88)Exercise is most important to health, the report emphasized; though it doesn't necessarily reduce weight, it maintains the correct proportion of body fat to body muscle. And it isn't only for the young; from middle age a minimum of 20minutes of general physical jerks should be practiced three times a week..The report advocates several public health measures to combat the high prevalence of overweight in this country. They include an increase of tax on alcohol to reduce its increasing, and dangerously fattening, consumption; and the provision of more sports facilities by local authorities. Conserving energy reduces the air pollution created by power plants. Driving less is one of the best ways to save energy and avoid polluting the air. People can save electricity by buying more efficient light bulbs and home appliances. People can also conserve by using appliances less often.People can also buy products that are safe for the environment. For example, households can help reduce water pollution by using fewer toxic cleaning products. If consumers refuse to purchase harmful products, manufacturers will stop making them.People can also help reduce pollution by eating less meat. Farmers use large quantities of fertilizer and pesticides to raise the production of grain on which cattle, hogs, and poultry feed. Farmers would use much less fertilizers and pesticides if people chose to eat less meat and more grains, beans and vegetables. If consumers would accept produce with slight blemishes or imperfections, farmers could reduce their use of chemicals. One of the simplest ways individuals can prevent pollution is by reusing products. For example, some milk suppliers use glass bottles instead of paper cartons. The bottles may be refilled and used again. People can reuse old paper or plastic bags to carry groceries or to hold garbage. When people reuse products, they avoid both the pollution associated with the creation of a new product and the pollution caused when the product is thrown out.(89) The most important way people can fight pollution is to learn as much as possible about how their actions affect the environment Then they can make intelligent choices that will reduce damage to the planet.26. 2023年江苏学位英语考试真题及答案2023年江苏学位英语考试真题及答案2023年江苏学位英语考试真题答案阅读理解一(2023年题)Without proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the local people of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the local people become unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy(经济). It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance(推动) the well-being (health and happiness) of local people.Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This m eans that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer. On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a lot of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first-class roads and other support facilities needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel will lose money.Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. 91.If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost译文:假如没有适当的规划,旅游可能会浮现问题。

For each of them there are four choicesmarked A, B, C a nd D. You s hould decide on the best choice and blacken the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet.Passage 1Questions I to 5 are based on the following passage:Spending 50 minutes with a cell phone close to your ear is enough to change brain cell activity in the part of the brain closest to the antenna(天线).But whether that causes any harm is not clear, scientists at the National Institute of Health saidat a conference last month, adding that the study will not likely settle concernsof a link between cell phones and brain cancer.“What we showed is glucose(葡萄糖)metabolism(代谢)(a sign of brain activity)increases in the brain in people whowere exposed to a cell phone in the area closest to the antenna,"said Dr.Nora Volkow of the NIH,whose study was published in the Journal of the American MedicalAssociation.(76) The study was meant to examine how the brain reacts toelectromagnetic fields caused by wireless phone signals.Volkow said she was surprised that the weak electromagnetic radiation(电磁辐射)from cell phones could affect brain activity, but she said the findings do notshed any light on whether cell phones cause cancer.“This study does not in any way indicate that. What the study does is to show the human brain is sensitive toelectromagnetic radiation from cell phone exposures.”Use o f the devices has increased dramatically since they were introduced in the early l980s,with about 5 billion cell phones now in use worldwide. Some studies have linked cell phone exposure to an increased risk of braincancers.but a large study by the World Health Organization did not offer a clear answer to this.Volkow’s team studied 47 people who had their brain examined while a cellphone was turned on for 50 minutes and another while the phone was turned off. While there was no complete change in brain metabolism, they found a 7 percent increasein brain metabolism in the region closest to the cell phone antenna when the phonewas on.(77)Experts said the results were interesting, but urged that they beunderstood with great care. “Although the biological significance,if any, of increased glucose metabolism from too much c ell phone exposure is unknown, the results require further investigation,” Henry Lai of the University of Washington in theU.S.and Dr.Lennart Hardell of University Hospital in Sweden, wrote in an article in JAMA.“Much has to be done to further investigate and understand these effects.”they wrote.1.According to the passage, which of the following is TRUE?A.Cell phone use is dangerous。

That information may come from books (fiction, nonfiction, or reference books), from periodicals (newspapers, magazines, and journals), from audio-visual material (records, cassettes microfilm, video tapes, etc. ), or even from a computer terminal. Students go to libraries to study and to write research papers. The periodicals room of a university library is where foreign students often find newspapers and magazines from their countries. In the reference room, they can find catalogs from many universities in the U.S. and other countries. If you are buying a used car, the reference librarian can show you the Blue Book, which lists the prices of new and used cars. People who need information in a hurry can telephone the reference librarian at many libraries. (86)There are as many different library services as there are types of people who use them. Children'slibraries provide materials for young readers. They sometimes have story tellers who read stories to groups of children, and a few have computers for the children to play with. Their values-this can’t be repeated too often-are not necessarily our values. Physical comfort, cleanness and order are not necessarily the most important for them. The social services from time to time find themselves faced with a flat with going-bad food covered with dust on the table, and an old person lying alone on bed, taking no notice of anything. Is it doing harm to personal freedom to insist that they go to live with some of their relatives so that they might be taken better care of? Some social workers are the ones who clean up the dust, thinking we are in danger of carrying this idea of personal freedom to the point where serious risks are being taken with the health and safety of the old.Indeed, the old can be easily hurt or harmed. The body is like a car: it needs more care as it gets older. You can carry this comparison right through to the provision of spare parts. (87) But never forget that such operations are painful experiences, however good the results. And at what point should you stop treating the old body? Is it right to try to push off death by using drugs to excite the forgetful old mind and to activate the old body, knowingthat there is little hope? You cannot ask doctors or scientists to decide, because so long as they can see the technical opportunities, they will feel sure to have a try on the b elief that while there’s life, three’s hope. When you talk to the old people, however, you are forced to the conclusion that whether age is happy or unpleasant depends less on money or on health than it does on your ability to have fun.21. For example, too many tourists can crowd pubic places that are also enjoyed by the inhabitants of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the inhabitants become annoyed and unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country’s economy. It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance the well-being of local inhabitants.Too much tourism can be a problem. (88)If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country’s economy can suffer. On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a great deal of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals, first-class roads, and other support facilities needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international-class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel will lose money.Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, andwater. All of these support facilities cost money. 江苏学位英语考试真题及答案2022
江苏学位英语考试真题及答案2022全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1The Big Tough English Test for Grown-UpsWow, you guys won't believe the crazy test I just took! It was the Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam for 2022. I know, I know, I'm just a kid - why am I taking a big grown-up university test? Well, my super smart big sister is applying to get her Master's degree, and she needed someone to quiz her practice questions on. Since I'm the best little brother ever, I agreed to help her out.Man, that test was no joke! The reading passages were super long and had all these big fancy words I'd never heard before. My sister had to stop me like every five seconds to explain what things meant. There were passages about science, history, culture, you name it! I'd just be reading along, totally following the story, and then BOOM - I'd hit a word like "antiquated" or "quintessential" and it was like running into a brick wall. Good thing my sister was there to translate it into kid language for me.But you know what the hardest part was? The listening section! They played all these recordings of people talking, butthey had such strong accents and spoke so fast. Half the time I couldn't even tell if they were speaking English or some other language. My sister telld me they were from all over - America, Britain, Australia. I was like "Don't they all speak English?" Apparently not the same way we do!While the recordings played, I had to frantically write down what they were saying and answer comprehension questions. Let me tell you, that was a nightmare! My hand cramped up from writing so much, and I had a terrible time trying to spell words like "conscientious" and "querulously". I probably just wrote "konshinshus" and "qwerluisly" - I have no idea if those are even close to the real spellings. The worst was when they threw in random facts and names like "In 1824, so-and-so discovered yadda-yadda yadda..." How am I supposed to know all that?!The saving grace was that every section had 10-15 minutes of rest time between each part. You better believe I chugged about three juice boxes during those breaks. I needed all the energy I could get! After killing myself on the listening, we moved onto the writing section. That was... interesting, to say the least. The test gave prompts like "Some people think developing renewable energy is more important than space exploration. What is youropinion?" and then expected a multi-paragraph response with clear arguments and examples! As a fourth grader, my thoughts kinda went: "I don't know, energy is good? But space is cool too? Can I go outside and play now?"Despite my laughable attempt at an essay, we pushed onwards to the final section - speaking. For this part, my sister set up her laptop camera and I had to give a two-minute speech about a randomly picked topic from a basket. I drew a card that said "The advantages and disadvantages of social media." Are you kidding me?! You might as well have asked me to explain the theory of relativity. What do I know about social media besides everyone's always staring at their phones?I ended up just rambling about how Facebook is for old people and TikTok has fun videos but also lots of ads trying to get youto buy stuff. Probably not quite the level of insight they were looking for. There was another part where my sister showed me a picture and I had to describe it, but I've already forgotten what that one was about. Oops! When it was all over, I literally collapsed on the floor from exhaustion. My brain felt like flip into mashed potatoes after wrestling with so many big concepts and vocabulary words for hours. I can't imagine how mentally drained real test takers mustfeel! Just thinking about taking that entire exam for real makes me want to take a nap.My sister graded my weird ramblings using a test answer key she had, and it was... not pretty. Let's just say I wouldn't have gotten the scores needed to get into any self-respecting university. On the bright side, at least I got a ton of practice reading, writing, listening and speaking in English! Maybe I'll be extra prepared when I need to take important tests in the future. For now though, I'm sticking to multiplication tables and creative writing about my summer vacations. Anything beyond that level of academic torture is going to have to wait until I'm much, much older. Preferably when I have a family, a mortgage, and tons of free time to study - so maybe never? We'll see! Phew, I'm beat. Time for some video games to veg out...篇2The Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam 2022Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 4th grader. My big sister Julia just took the really hard Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam last year to try to get into a master's program. She studied soooo much for it. I'm going to tell you all about the exam questions and answers she showed me!The exam had four sections - listening, reading, writing, and translation. Julia said the listening part was the toughest. You had to listen really carefully to lectures, conversations, and other recordings and answer multiple choice questions. Some of the audio tracks were about science topics like black holes and others were just casual chats between friends. The questions asked specific details about what was said. Julia had to concentrate super hard! For the reading section, there were long academic passages on subjects like history, psychology, and environmental studies. The passages used a ton of big vocabulary words I didn't know. After each passage, you had to answer comprehension questions like "According to the passage, what is the main reason for..." or "The author implies that..." Julia showed me some of the question types like matching statements to paragraphs. Yikes, it looked really hard to understand those dense readings! Then there was a writing task where you had to write a whole essay responding to a prompt. One prompt Julia remembered was "Some people believe social media creates increased social isolation. Others feel it allows for greater connectivity. What is your perspective?" For a timed essay, you had to quickly outlineyour main ideas, provide clear examples, and have a logical flow. No easy feat when the exam timer is ticking! The last section was translation between English and Chinese. You had to translate passages accurately while keeping the same meaning, tone and style. Julia said some of the hardest parts were translating idioms, metaphors, and words with multiple meanings. In one sample, the English said "a penny for your thoughts" which has no literal penny meaning in the Chinese translation. Tricky stuff!Throughout the exam, Julia had to really demonstrate her English vocabulary breadth and mastery of grammar rules. She said managing her time was also crucial to get through all the sections.I saw Julia's scores after she finished and she did pretty well overall! She was super relieved when it was over. In some sections like the translation part, she wasn't sure how she did. Other parts like the reading comprehension used question types she had practiced a ton for.Julia worked sooo diligently to prepare for months and months. She took practice tests, attended prep courses, and worked through previous exam papers. All that hard work paid off!Even though I'm just a kid, I could see how challenging and comprehensive the Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam was. It really tested Julia's English abilities across all skills - listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and translation. She had to know academic concepts, understand different accents, and write at a scholarly level.I have so much respect for Julia and all graduate candidates who take this intense exam. It's no wonder she celebrated big time when она получила высокие баллы! Oops, I mean, when she got a high score! Even though I mix up my Russian and English sometimes, I can appreciate how difficult it is to master a foreign language.Maybe I'll work just as hard as Julia did and be able to pass my own English exams years from now. But Wow, the Jiangsu test made me realize I have a loooong way to go before I can call myself truly fluent! I'll keep studying and improving my English skills little by little.Julia said the exam process, while grueling, helped prepare her for the rigor of graduate-level coursework and research. By conquering this huge milestone, she proved she can understand complex topics, synthesize information, and convey ideas at an academic level. Yeah Julia!Well, that's all I know about my sister's experience with the crazy difficult Jiangsu Postgraduate English Exam. I couldn't have answered those listening comprehension questions or written an essay for the test prompts. At least not yet! Maybe if I follow Julia's footsteps of hard work and perseverance, I can ace an English exam like that one day too. But I'm heading outside to ride bikes and play for now - no more studying tonight! Let me know if you have any other questions!篇3Here's an article about the Jiangsu Postgraduate Entrance English Exam 2022 with questions and answers, written in English from a primary school student's perspective, around 2000 words long:The Super Difficult English Exam I Had to TakeHi friends! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a primary school student here in Jiangsu Province, China. Today I want to tell you about this really hard English exam that all the older students have to take. It's called the Jiangsu Postgraduate Entrance English Exam and it happens every year. My big brother Xiaozhang had to take it last year when he was trying to get into a Master's program. He studied so hard for months! The exam is entirely in English and it tests how well you can read, write, listen and speak in English. From what Xiaozhang told me, it's super duper difficult. There are different sections like reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing an essay, and even an oral test where you have to speak English out loud. Can you imagine how nervous Xiaozhang must have been?I managed to find one of the past exam papers from 2022 and I'll share some of the questions with you. But be warned, they are very very hard! I could barely understand them.Reading ComprehensionThere was this long reading passage about climate change and environmental issues. After reading it, you had to answer questions like:According to the passage, what are three major causes of global warming? The author mentions "carbon capture technology". Explain what this is in your own words.Which stance does the author seem to take regarding the future impact of climate change?Just reading the questions made my head spin! The vocabulary was so advanced. How are students supposed tounderstand such difficult readings and concepts entirely in English? My brother is super smart, so I can't even imagine how hard this section was for him.VocabularyThen there was a vocabulary section testing English word meanings and usage. It had questions like:Choose the correct definition of the word "obsolete".Use the word "appease" in a sentence of your own. There were so many infrequent and academic words that I had never even heard before! I don't think I could have gotten a single one of those vocabulary questions right.WritingBut possibly the most challenging part was the writing section, where they made you write a whole essay or article of 400+ words in English! One of the essay prompts from 2022 was:"Scientific and technological progress has caused both benefits and drawbacks for modern society." Discuss both aspects and provide your perspective on achieving a balanced approach. Are you kidding me? I can barely write 400 words in my native Chinese, let alone crafting a complex analytical essay in English about the pros and cons of technology. I'm just a little kid still learning basic grammar and vocabulary. Something like that would be impossible for me, and it was really hard even for my brother who has studied English for many years.Oral TestLastly, there was even a speaking section called the Oral Test where they made you respond to questions out loud in English! Some examples were:Describe a happy childhood memory in detail.8 ) Give your views on the importance of protecting cultural heritage sites.Just imagining having to speak continuously in perfect English about random topics already makes me sweat! My pronunciation is so bad and I would definitely freeze up from nervousness. Hats off to any students who could smoothly express themselves in English in this oral exam.Well, those were just a few examples from the 2022 Jiangsu Postgraduate Entrance English Exam. It looked extremely complicated, stressful, and way way too difficult for a youngstudent like me. My brother studied day and night to prepare and he barely passed. I have so much respect for any students taking on such an incredibly challenging English exam!If you're curious, here are the answers my brother gave me for those sample questions:Three major causes: burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, industrializationTechnology to capture carbon emissions and store them undergroundThe author seems to take a pessimistic view of climate change's consequencesDefinition of obsolete: No longer used or useful, outmodedSample sentence: "To appease the angry crowd, the politician promised reforms."Essay Sample Response (abbreviated):"While scientific progress has undoubtedly brought major benefits like longer lifespans and technological conveniences, it has also caused concerning issues like environmental damage and erosion of privacy... A balanced approach is needed thatmitigates the drawbacks through regulation and ethical oversight while still allowing innovation..."Childhood Memory: "One of my happiest memories was when I went camping with my family in the mountains and saw a beautiful waterfall..."Cultural Heritage: "Protecting cultural heritage sites is crucial because they are irreplaceable pieces of our ancestral history that educate us about our roots and identity..."Just reading my brother's answers makes my head spin. I can't even imagine having to come up with all those thoughtful responses entirely in English under time pressure! I guess that's why they call it one of the most difficult English exams around.Anyway friends, that's my experience learning about the crazy difficult Jiangsu Postgraduate English Entrance Exam. I have a whole new level of respect for my brother and any students capable of taking such a high-level comprehensive English test. For now, I'll just focus on my times tables and simple English nursery rhymes. But who knows, maybe one day I'll be taking that beast of an exam too! Wish me luck!篇4The Big Scary English TestOh boy, I have to tell you about the Jiangsu Postgraduate Entrance English Exam I took last year! It was super duper hard. I'm just a kid but I like to dream big, so I decided to take the test to get ready for going to a great university someday. The test had all kinds of crazy difficult parts. There was listening, reading, writing, translation - you name it! I thought my head was going to explode trying to understand and answer everything. But I'm a tough cookie, so I powered through and did my best. I'll share some of the questions with you so you can see how insanely hard it was!Listening SectionIn the listening part, they played all these conversations and lectures and stuff. Then they asked a bunch of questions to see if you understood what was said. Things like:Question 1: What is the main purpose of the speaker?A) To describe a historical eventB) To criticize a political policyC) To introduce a scientific theoryD) To promote a new productI guessed C because it sounded like the guy was talking about some crazy science stuff I didn't understand. Who knows if I got it right!Question 2: What will the speakers likely discuss next?A) Enrollment requirementsB) Housing optionsC) Travel arrangementsD) Research methodsFor this one, I chose D because it seemed like they were setting up to talk about some research. But it was just a wild guess!Reading SectionThen there were all these stupidly long reading passages about things like biology, economics, history. The passages were so boring that I could barely stay awake. After each one, they asked comprehension questions like:Question 1: According to the passage, which of the following is true of photosynthesis?A) It occurs in plant cellsB) It involves the creation of oxygenC) It requires carbon dioxideD) All of the aboveWell duh, I know photosynthesis has to do with plants and making oxygen and carbon dioxide stuff. So I picked D for all of the above. Easy peasy!Question 2: The author's main purpose is toA) Argue against an economic theoryB) Explain the basics of macroeconomicsC) Analyze the impacts of a recessionD) Critique a governmental policyUmm... I have no clue what macroeconomics even means. So for this one I just filled in a bubble at random. Oops!Writing SectionThe writing section was where I really struggled. They asked us to write an essay responding to a prompt. The prompt I got was:"Some people believe that competition for high grades motivates students to excel, while others think it creates anunhealthy environment in schools. Which view do you agree with? Develop your position with relevant examples and evidence."Are you kidding me?! I'm just a kid. How am I supposed to know whether competition is good or bad? All I know is that I hate taking tests and having to compete against my friends. I pretty much just winged it and wrote something like:"I do not like when me and my friends have to compete against each other for good grades. It makes me sad and stressed out. I want school to be fun, not super competitive and difficult all the time. We are just kids and should be able to learn at our own pace and not be so worried about getting the Best grades ever."Yeah, probably not going to win any awards for that sad little essay. But hey, I tried!Translation SectionAnd finally, there was this crazy translation part. They gave us a passage in English and we had to translate the whole thing into Chinese. And then they gave us another passage in Chinese that we had to translate to English. My tiny little brain was ready to explode at this point. The English to Chinese one was about some famous scientist, with sentences like:"Marie Curie's groundbreaking discoveries in the field of radioactivity changed the face of modern science and opened up new frontiers of physics and chemistry."You have got to be kidding me! I'm 8 years old. How am I supposed to translate academic mumbo jumbo like that?! I just tried to say it simply:"马里·居里在放射性方面的革命性发现改变了现代科学的面貌,并为物理学和化学开辟了新的前沿领域。
江苏省2003年成人学士学位英语考试试卷及答案
江苏省2003年成人学士学位英语考试试卷及答案Directions: There are some reading passages in this part. Each passage is followed by five questions. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice and write down the corresponding letter in the Answer Sheet.Recently I decided to hold some poetry readings for friends, partly for a selfish reason, liking to hear the sound of my own voice, but also because I suspected that there is a dimension of pleasure and understanding that we miss by reading poems only to ourselves. The most basic preliminary question of any reading is who reads. One answer would be to ask everyone to prepare one or two poems, and to go around the room. This gives everyone something to do, and it exposes everyone to a variety of tastes and interpretations. An alternative is to let one ham run the show. The ability to read aloud, like any other talent, is unevenly distributed; it’s probably better not to hear a poem at all than to hear it mangled. Reading aloud is also a mental and, to a degree, a physical effort.(86) If only one person does it, then, everyone else can enjoy the unalloyed pleasure of listening. If it’s not a pleasure, the reader will have no guests for his second reading.I thought it was only fair to my listeners to reward them for their attention with food and drink, but only fair to me to withhold it until I had finished. I limited the reading to one hour.16.According to this passage, reading poetry aloud to other peopleA.Is a selfish thingB.Gives one no pleasure or understandingC.Gives one a kind of pleasure different from silent readingSocial change is more likely to occur in societies where there is a mixture of different kinds of people than in societies where people aresimilar in many ways. The simple reason for this is that there are more different ways of looking at things present in the first kind of society. There are more ideas, more disagreements in interest, and more groups and organizations with different beliefs. In addition, there is usually a greater worldly interest and greater tolerance in mixed societies. (87)All these factors tend to promote social change by opening more areas of life to decision. In a society where people are quite similar in many ways, there are fewer occasions for people to see the need or the opportunity for change because everything seems to be the same. And although conditions may not be satisfactory, they are at least customary and undisputed.Within a society, social change is also likely to occur more frequently and more readily in the material aspects of the culture than in the non-material, for example, in technology rather than in values; in what has been learned later in life rather than what was learned early; in the less basic and less emotional aspects of society than in their opposites; in the simple elements rather than in the complex ones; in form rather than in substance; and in elements that are acceptable to the culture rather than in strange elements.Furthermore, social change is easier if it is gradual. For example, it comes more readily in human relations on a continuous scale rather than one with sharp dichotomies(一分为二). (88)This is one reason why change has not come more quickly to Black Americans as compared to other American minorities, because of the sharp difference in appearance between them and their white counterparts.21.The passage is mainly discussing __________ .A. the necessity of social changeB. certain factors that determine the ease with which social changes occurC. two different societiesD. certain factors that promote social change22.______ is one of the factors that tend to promote social change.A. But now a British company called EEV has come up with acomputerized video system that can do it all automatically. They suggest that all number plates have a bar code(条形码)as well as theusual number. The bar codes are just stripes of lines like those you see on foodpackets but bigger. EEVs high speed video camera system can read a bar-codednumber plate even if the car is doing over 100 miles per hour. The computercontrolling the system could then use the information from the bar code to find out the name and address of the driver(from the car records),print out the fine and send it off automatically. The inventors also suggest that the system should watch traffic to help catch stolen cars. The new electronic system could be watching everyone that passes the cameras!(89)Many people find the idea that “big brother is watching you” is more of a worr y than a few motorists getting away with driving too fast. Besides, some people will be very unhappy to realize that with the new system the police could find out where a particular car has been.26. An alternative “summary” title for the article could be.A. People Who Drive Too FastB. Stop People from Driving Too FastC. EEV and the Police SystemD. Implications of Computerized System for Motoring Offenses27. A traditional function of the camera as used by the traffic policesystem is to .A. take snapshots of cars on highwaysB. catch cars violating traffic rulesC. send fines to fast motoristsD. make the traffic system fully automatic 28.The newly-invented system functions more efficiently with the aid of________.(90)Since the beginning of history, man has been attracted by the idea of living forever, of wining the fight against death and disease. So far, this has only remained a dream, though a very powerful one. Many people have wondered whether it would be possible to find a way to preserve human bodies, and what would be the best way to preserve human bodies. It has long been known that meat of fruit can be kept fresh for long periods by freezing; in ancient China, for example, food was stored with ice to keep it fresh. This method could also be useful for preserving humans, and in fact many people have explored this possibility. However, most living beings that exist under warm conditions die when frozen. This is because of the harmful effects of freezing ice crystals (晶体), which are not only larger than the volume of the water originally in the cells, but also form sharp cutting shapes that harms the cells. In the 1940s Dr B.J.Luyet and a group of scientists in England were working on the problem of freezing cells without damaging them.Since the harm caused by ice crystals was the main cause of the damage, Luyet suggested removing some or all of the water from the cells before freezing them.Using living cells from chicken, Luyet and his assistants discovered that they could partly dry the chicken cells, using a mixture of the white part of an egg and glycerin(丙三醇), a clear, thick liquid made chiefly from fats and oils. Some success was obtained. The chicken cells were dried, frozen for a period of time, and then carefully unfrozen.Almost all the cells recovered when they reached normal temperatures.Since then, the cooling of whole animals to a temperature very much below freezing point for later unfreezing has become more of a possibility, and the glycerin method would probably be used to accomplish this. When this can be done completely and successfully, science will have moved much closer to its aim of freezing and storing incurable patients until the day they can be cured.Directions: There are 40 incomplete sentences in this part.
