He felt ashamed and didn’t want to use the money any more. What’s worse, the criminal Magwitch escaped from prison to visit Pip and was noticed by the police. At last, Magwitch was sentenced to death and Pip led a normal life. The beautiful lady became a widow as her husband died. ButPip still loved her and promised to be friends with her all the same. This ending is a bit reaasuring.Among those several characters in the novel, my favourite is Magwitch. He was homeless and poor when he was young and he used to be put into prison several times. No one cared about him, so when little Pip saved him by giving him some food, he felt moved. And he bore Pip’s help in his mind. When he was exiled overseas, he was determined to make a lot of money and help Pip become a gentleman. He worked hard and saved every coin he could, and then sent it to Pip. He did all of these secretly in order to prevent little Pip from being embarrassed. After Pip became a real gentleman, Magwitch returned to England in secret only to see whether Pip had led a good life. What we can find from him is deep love for Pip. Although the society has desertedhim, he is not deserted by himself. Different from Miss Havishams who is black-hearted, Magwitch is like a father. He showed his love to Pip without any hesitation. He was just like Pip’s father. This is why I admire him very much.Then when I look back into our society, I find that some parents are not as good as the criminal Magwitch. Cases are that parents push their children to work hard in order to be admitted into the college where they were eager to go when they were young. This usually leads to two consequences. One is that the children are exerted too much pressure and they go to extremes. The other is that their children do as they are told to and don’t have their independent thinking. 最近读的小说是狄更斯的名著《远大前程》，以前看过电影的小人书，没有看过原着。
自从开始学写诗歌，看小说也与以前侧重不一样，故事的精彩、情节的曲折、结构的安排等，都不是主要的关注目标，更注重语言、哲思等对诗歌有益的方面，或者总结对自我有用的人生经验。
这本书开头的语言十分有特色，锐利、内敛、辛辣又不失巧妙的幽默，还有一些新奇的比喻，十分喜欢。
小说里每个人的命运奇特地交织在一齐，那天与好友谈及小说《安娜卡列尼娜》里安娜对待感情的态度，我对安娜的态度是不认同的：没有感情就没有生命的活力，没有活力的燃烧便不是真正的感情，最终以放弃自我的生命去挽回自以为失去的感情，让自我悲惨的同时又把不幸带给了身边每一个人，这种不顾一切的刚烈，是说她勇敢呢?还是说她偏执呢?而同样的偏执联想到了《远大前程》里的赫薇香，她疯狂地追求感情，却中了骗局，在婚礼当中遭到背叛，从此她的生活就停顿而后死寂了，时钟永远停在8：40，她穿上的新娘礼服，没有穿上的一只鞋，没有带上的首饰，没有合上的行李箱，还有桌上的结婚蛋糕，二十多年就维持原样不动，她再也不见阳光，不再相信感情，对男人充满仇恨，她彻底放弃了自我正常的生活，像一个活死人般直到白发苍苍。
她不仅仅毁了自我的一生，她把养女艾丝黛拉训练成报复的工具，也毁掉了艾丝黛拉的青春。
她到底可怜不可怜呢?会对她产生同情之心吗?一个人归根结底命运是要靠自我掌握，不能因为一次挫折就仇恨一切，就放弃一切，谁的一生不经坎坷呢?摔倒了爬起来，还要活的更坚强更好，这才是对命运的不公与感情的背叛最好的报复。

【篇⼀】《远⼤前程》英⽂读后感 With so many famous masterpieces on the booklist, it is really a pretty hard job to choose one to read first. After much hesitation and deeply thought, I finally decided to borrow Great Expectations from the small library. Great Expectations is about love, family, and rejection as Pip and Miss Havisham have both been rejected in certain ways. Pip is a boy around 13 years old, easy to fright, and goes through his life suffering lots of sadness. He is in love with a girl named Estella and wants her to find his love, but for him being shy and not showing himself to her, it makes it very hard for him. Great Expectations was the penultimate novel completed by the most popular novelist of Victorian England, Charles Dickens. Born in Kent, England, in 1812 to a family of modest means but great pretensions, Dickens’s early life was marked by both humiliation and ambition. Dickens never forgot the period of financial crisis during his childhood, when following his father’s bankruptcy, he was taken out of school and forced to work in a shoepolish warehouse. Pip meets an escaped convict, Magwitch, and gives him food, in an encounter that is to haunt both their lives. When Pip receives riches from a mysterious benefactor he snobbishly abandons his friends for London society andhis“great expectations”。

英语名著书虫《远大前程》读后感篇一：远大前程读后感(英文版)Thoughts on Great ExpectationsDuring the last month, I have been reading the novel named Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I set up my mind to finish reading it for the simple reason that I have read the Chinese version of this great novel and I was deeply attracted by the story.The main character in this novel is Pip and the whole story goes like this: Pip was a orphan and was brought up by his sister “by hand”. His sister Mrs. Joe was very strict with him while his brother-in-law treat him kindly. As a result, the two developed a intimate relationship. Since Pip was asked to visit Miss Havishams’s house, his mind and his fate began to change. In Miss Havishams’s home, Pip saw her adopted daughter Estella and fell in love with her at the first sight. Then he was determined to be well-educated and become a gentleman in order to deserve the beautiful girl Estella. And much to his delight, he was given a large sum of money and an opportunity to study abroad by an anonymous person. After a period of time, his great expectations came true and he became a gentleman at last. However, he found out that the money was offered by thecriminal he had saved when he was young. He felt ashamed and didn’t want to use the money any more. What’s worse, the criminal Magwitch escaped from prison to visit Pip and was noticed by the police. At last, Magwitch was sentenced to death and Pip led a normal life. The beautiful lady became a widow as her husband died. But Pip still loved her and promised to be friends with her all the same. This ending is a bit reaasuring.Among those several characters in the novel, my favourite is Magwitch. He was homeless and poor when he was young and he used to be put into prison several times. No one cared about him, so when little Pip saved him by giving him some food, he felt moved. And he bore Pip’s help in his mind. When he was exiled overseas, he was determined to make a lot of money and help Pip become a gentleman. He worked hard and saved every coin he could, and then sent it to Pip. He did all of these secretly in order to prevent little Pip from being embarrassed. After Pip became a real gentleman, Magwitch returned to England in secret only to see whether Pip had led a good life. What we can find from him is deep love for Pip. Although the society has deserted him, he is not deserted by himself. Different from Miss Havishams who is black-hearted, Magwitch islike a father. He showed his love to Pip without any hesitation. He was just like Pip’s father. This is why I admire him very much.Then when I look back into our society, I find that some parents are not as good as the criminal Magwitch. Cases are that parents push their children to work hard in order to be admitted into the college where they were eager to go when they were young. This usually leads to two consequences. One is that the children are exerted too much pressure and they go to extremes. The other is that their children do as they are told to and don’t have their independent thinking. They lack the comprehensive abilities to cope with fierce competition in today’s society. In other words, they are likely to survive in this competitive world. God is equal to everyone. When Magwitch knew that Estella was his daughter and had been loved by Pip, he felt relieved.
