I cannot imagine that I have anything to with death as well as poem, because these two things are really far from my life. Nevertheless, this film has given me another totally unusual and unforgettable impression.Dead Poet Society is a unique and confidential association, organized by several students of Melton preparatory school. Melton school has a high enrolment rate of Ivy League and good reputation, but meanwhile it is rigid and conventional, which perceives tradition, honor, discipline, excellence as its four pillars. Teachers are staid, classrooms are starchy, and students are supposed to focus themselves on their school work; therefore, when students shut the dorm’s door, they have redefined four pillars: hypocrisy, horror, decadence, excrement.When one of the former members of Dead Poet Society, John Keating, courteously shows up on the opening ceremony, he is deemed to bringing vibrancy to the repressive students. Mr. Keating drags the boys out of the classroom, and shows them some photosof past great poets. Such an unorthodox approach succeeds in attracting the boy s’attention, and then he quotes ‘Carpe Diem. Seize the day. ’Now I know ‘Carpe Diem’is a heavily cited cliché, but when my teacher picked it out to ask me and my classmates about the meaning, we were in a frightening silence because none of us knew this old saying. Fortunately, I know it represents for Mr. Keating’s genuine wish and expectation from this film. He wants the boys to seize the every single day, go for the unknown, and make lives extraordinary. Neil is a charming, intelligent student in Welton, and an obedient, hopeful son in his family. He has followed his father’s well-arranged track without any complaining, until he rebuilds Dead Poet Society which dedicated to suck all the marrow of the life according to Mr. Keating’s explanation. Poem maybe arouses his dreams hidden in the bottom of his heart, so Neil participates in a play to release his suppressed passion of acting. Todd, an introvert, diffident boy, is afraid of speaking loud in front of the whole class. Mr. Keating inspires this shy boy to put out of his original poet by firstly evoking the barbarian in him, and he uses a unique way to help the boy to realize his own voice with imagination, creativity and courage. The school has to track down the cause of the tragedy, and to appease the anxiety of the parents, without a little doubt, Mr. Keating is dismissed from the college as a scapegoat. The review of the Dead poets society
The movie tells a story of education. It remind people to seek the freedom, the self and the brave.
The location of the story is the “Welton Academy”, a preparatory school in Vermont. This school was famous as strict, and the president and many of the teachers are very preciseness. But in this semester, a young and interesting teacher, Mr. Keating, who teach his boys English and poetry, change the school, and many of students.
Mr. Keating, the captain of the boys, let students to pursue the inspiration. He let them to reject the wise men and the poets many yeas ago, and to believe in themselves.
In the affect of Mr. Keating, some boys set up a club named the dead poets society secretly. They read the poems of the great poets who has already dead, like the Shakespeare and Shelley. They exchange the spirits with them and aspire the inspiration almost every night.
Nell Perry is an excellent boy who loves poems and drama very much, but his parents order him to become a doctor and forbid him to acting dramas. He loves Mr. Keating, and encourage his friends to do themselves. But because of his family, he choose to kill himself. Maybe, it is the “Give me liberty or give me death”.
Todd Anderson, is a very shy boy. His older brother is the best student
in the Welton Academy, and everyone let he become a person like his brother. But he is too shy to show up himself. Later, in the help of Mr. Keating, Nell and the dead poets society, he expressed a great talent in pomes.
And Konx Overstreet, a boy fall in love with a girl who is the daughter of his parents’old friends. Unfortunately, the beautiful girl already has the boyfriend. But Konx not give up. He becomes brave and say love to the girl finally.
The boys change themselves more or less in the dead poets society. But the dead of Nell shake the whole school and they find of the club, and force the students admit that it is the Mr. Keating cheat and induce them to set up the club. In other words, it is the Mr. Keating who kill the Nell.
The teacher leave the school finally. But the thought he gives boys maybe exist forever. What the students need is not only the tradition ,honor, discipline, or excellence, but the freedom, in the soul.。
