Carl Gustav Jung/’ɡustaf ‘juŋ/: (1875-1961) Swiss psychiatrist, an influential thinker and the founder of

analytical psychology known as Jungian psychology. Jung emphasized understanding the psyche through exploring the worlds of dreams, art, mythology, religion and philosophy. His most notable ideas include the concept of psychological archetypes (心理原型), the collective unconscious(集体无意识) and synchronicity (共时性,即有意义的巧合). His best known works are Psychology of the Unconscious (《无意识心理学》)(1912) and Psychological Types (《心理类型》)(1921).

(Jung was a friend and collaborator of Sigmund Freud (佛洛伊德) for 6 years before he broke from the latter, who influenced Jung during his intellectually formative years.)

(Kennedy was the second-youngest President (months after Theodore Roosevelt), the first President born in the 20th century, the first and only Catholic president, the only President to have won a Pulitzer Prize, and the youngest President to die.)
